We know next to nothing about the content of the TV series. However, Aria's (Ducky's) mother Melody mentioned in a mail to some of us that Aria auditioned for a character named "Ovie", not Ducky. We can only guess here, but if they stick to the tradition of naming land before time characters after their kind Ovie may possibly refer to an Oviraptor, an eggeater. Keep in mind I'm just speculating here.
Aria's mother also mentioned that they are looking for a voice for Chomper. If Chomper returns, so might the eggeaters Ozzy and Strut, maybe along with another eggeater called Ovie. But like I said this is just speculation.
Another fact however is that (again) they are looking for a new Littlefoot. I sure hope that after all they find a good sucessor to Thomas Dekker.
-
Yes thomas was the last decent voice of Littlefoot. No offense to the other actors who have voiced lIttlefoot, but I haven't been able top connect with them as Littlefoot.
-
Aria's mum said the same thing about Aria she seem to be doing two voices. for the series.
-Threehorn
-
One of them is a main character and one of them will be a minor character...
-
It sounds like they're going to introduce more supporting characters for the series.
Oh, and Scott McAfee was the last decent voice for Littlefoot.
-
I think Thomas Dekker too did a very good job, but that's probably a matter of opinion.
-
Dekker was good, but He's the last decent one. I haven't been too fomd of the recent Littlefoot voices...
-
That's a real interesting point Malte about Ovie possibly being a Oviraptor. Never really thought of that! And what a development that would be to have Aria voice a possible villian rather than a good guy. But as you said before Malte. At the moment, everything is all down to pure speculation and no one knows for sure...but time will tell.
As for finding a voice for Littlefoot (yet again), I'm sure they'll find someone. I can imagine that the recent Littlefoots wont be taking up the role but I reckon that Thomas Dekker was the better voice for Littlefoot and he actually won an award for it! Scott McAfee is a close second but Dekker stood out as my fav Littlefoot! A shame he couldnt continue the role.
-
Why? Did his voice change too much?
-
Unfortunately, age caught up with him. His voice dropped and he became unsuitable for the part. A real shame I reckon... :(
-
Yep that's why Julia Hansen won't be doing Ali again either. <_<
-
What can we say? You can't severe the passage of time! Age caught up and things changed...just like everything! But the question remains...who will be our next Littlefoot? Another kid's natural voice? Or a more experienced, older actor that can alter his/her voice to sound like Littlefoot? WHo knows?
-
No we can't. But I'd rather do an older actor who can mimic the voice of a child, than have a string of child actors.
-
I'd like to add that one who can alter their voice to sound like someone will likely cause less turnover and the need for new voices. Jeff Bennett has been Petrie since at least 1994--11 years, and he still sounds the same. ;) Just makes sense to try and find someone who can do the voice that already has hit puberty if the producers have any long-term goals.
-
Basically what I was saying. Get an older person who can manipulate his or her voice to sound younger.
-
Sorry...only read a few posts down...didn't see yours.
-
Ni problem Roger... :)
-
Has anyone heard anything else about this character?
-
Actually there is one new piece of information. The character is not going to be called Ovie after all. The new name of Ovie will be "Ruby" which may render all theories of Ovie being and Oviraptor useless. There is no information on the species yet.
-
My only thought on the species so far, is the name "Ruby" sounds much like "Rooter" from the original movie. Perhaps they are a similar species, however this is just the result of my random brainstorming :lol
-
You mentioning rooter just gave me a weird idea of having Rooter return. I don't know why.
And actually, Ruby could still be an Oviraptor.
-
Hey Wr this may be a bit offtopic, but have you checked out the "awards' thread? We need everyone's imput, before we consider doing it.
-
I've seen it. I just haven't come to any conclusions yet.
-
So count you amoung the 'undecided' then...
-
Nah, I just gave RogerRabbit my input.
-
I don't believe in any connection between Ruby and Rooter.
The names sound very different and with the very, very few references to earlier LBT movies we had so far I consider it very unlikely that they would pick up Rooter of all characters. I could imagine that many members of the younger audience might not even know on the spot who Rooter is. Also Ruby will be spoken by a Aria. Aria's voice suggests that Ruby is going to be a young character.
-
I never said that there was a connection between Rooter and Rudy. I was joking. Although seeing Rooter return would be a sight for sore eyes. I wonder whatever happened to that him, anyway.
-
I think Rooter was just one of those "bridging" characters that kept the plot flowing. He tries to move Littlefoot along when he could have just wandered around on his own constantly mourning for his loss. Tries to give him some means of focus and something to look TO rather than regretting what HAS happened in the past. But as you said WeirdRaptor, it would be a nice touch to see the old geezer again! LOL :lol Just for that nostalgic taster of younger days eh? :^.^:
-
Perhaps it would just be a nice feeling to know that after he helped Littlefoot as much as he did, that he survived to the end of his natural life, or is still alive. Seeing him again, even as a quick "cameo", wouldn't be a bad idea to include at some point in the TV series. However, perhaps the crowd that would be most likely to watch the series would hardly recognize Rooter even if they saw him. Even so, I think such an addition could bring back, as you stated Littlefoot1616, fond memories of the good ol' days B)
-
True...It's always the avid fans that remember or recognise little minor details that producers sneak into productions. Some are obvious whilst others require a little more searching. I'm sure we'd all spot Rooter from a mile off but maybe a younger or fairly new fan to the series might just regard his reappearance as nothing outta the ordinary. It all depends on how deep you are immersed in your fasination with something. (I mean that purely in a good, innocent way ;) )
-
I just wonder what the show will be like. The suspence is overwelming.
-
With a little more patience...I'm sure we'll find out! :^.^: But ditto on the suspense! LOL :D
-
So, I just really want to find out who this character is going to be.
-
Ten bucks says that this is just a way of getting people interested and then have Ovie just turn out to be a guest character for one or two episodes.
-
then have Ovie just turn out to be a guest character for one or two episodes.
That probably actually isn't a bad idea. I'm not too keen on the idea of adding more permanent characters to the LBT series. I wasn't very happy to see Tria stay at the end of LBT 12. I almost hope she mysteriously disappears like the Twins from LBT 6. :P:
-
Not quite what I meant. I'm just saying that this could just be Universal's way of getting some people's curiousity up.
-
Information about Ovie has not been released by Universals. We have it from Aria who is going to voice this character why, by the way, has meanwhile been renamed and is now called Ruby. I don't expect Ruby will be more than a guest character.
-
One of many, no doubt, but why center on just one?
-
This discussion? Because Ruby is the only new character we know about.
-
I've been thinking about the series a bit and I think I came up with an idea of what I think it will be like. (Mind you, it's not very good.)
Here's the basic idea...
The idea is that Ruby is the main villian of the series. Ruby has this plan to take over the Great Valley. She sends out different sharpteeth to try and take over and somehow the Gang of Five are the only ones who can stop Ruby.
...........
Okay, bad idea... -_-
The problem is this... If this is the main idea of the series, how is it that Ducky saves the day on the first episode? I'm guessing clever trickry here. :lol
But what do you guys think? :)
-

Certainly not!
That's the way many science fiction writers think, but that's not the way the dinosaurs think. "Taking over the Great Valley". Admittedly we had that idea from Pterano, who was hoping to get the admiration he felt he deserved by making the Great Valley a paradise, ignoring that this is what it already was. Nonetheless there is not such a thing in the dinosaurs' mind as a war being fought between sharpteeth and leafeaters. The latter do what they have to, not out of vilany but out of need to eat.
As for Ruby, I seriously doubt they would pick Aria's voice for so vicious a character.
-
I edited the title of this thread to widen the focus a little.
There is new information on a character in the TV series.
A fan in the Network54 Forum (http://www.network54.com/Forum/26773) drew my attention to the fact that the imdb page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473584/fullcredits) about land before time TV series seems to have been updated. While there is still 9th August 2005 given as the status update date I'm quite sure that there are several pieces of new information which haven't been there before (or could we all have possibly overlooked that since August 2005? I don't think so). Namely they now listed Meghan Strange to voice Ruby (I'm afraid I may have failed to both mention and remember that not Aria but Meghan Strange is now going to voice Ruby which Aria mentioned in a mail from January already. I kept up antiquated information! While Aria in fact did record for Ruby it is not her who will speak Ruby in the final series. Shame on me! I appologize for my mistake. :().
They also they list Pete Sepenuk to voice Redclaw/Screech a character / two characters who haven't been mentioned before. It seems to mean Pete Sepenuk is going to voice two different characters, or are they not sure about one characters name? Same as Ovie was changed to Ruby?
Maybe Aria is allowed to give us more information on this. I asked her about it.
-
Redclaw/Screech?
Sounds like a villain to me. :)
Certainly not!

Which is why I said...
Okay, bad idea... -_-
Anyways, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Redclaw/Screech was the name of a villain for the series. It just sounds so perfect for a sharptooth. :)
-
Hmm. They usually list queststars separately, so maybe Ruby and Redclaw/Screech will actually be fairly important throughout the entire series.

I'm thinking a raptor for Ruby; sounds perfect for a villainess trying to annex the Great Valley with sharptooth warriors!
Eh...never mind.

Keep in mind that we are talking about a character voiced by Aria / Ducky. Would sure be interesting to have Ducky talk for a villain (as Petrie already did). As for "sharptooth warriors", I suppose the dinosaurs would first have to be explained what war is, and I doubt that they would understand that concept.
-
As for "sharptooth warriors", I suppose the dinosaurs would first have to be explained what war is, and I doubt that they would understand that concept.
Well, the dinosaurs in LBT have shown plenty of signs of sentience and organization, so I wouldn't put the concept of organized warfare (or at least skirmishing and raiding) above them.
-
They lack the very basic causes that would create a state that could be labeled as "war". Sharpteeth don't fight for material purposes or for power, but merely for food. They don't plan to kill for "fun". Leafeaters on the other side fight to defend themselves, to live, just like the sharpteeth try to kill as many of them as they need to survive themselves. Neither side seeks to destroy the other side for good.
I do not deny that there is some organization (teaming up to fight rather than everyone for him or herself), but to call it war seems something of an exaggeration to me.
Oxford dictionary defines war as "the use of armed forces between countries or (civil war) rival groups in a nation". While I think that herds may be considered as fit for doing the part of countries or nations in LBT, it still needs some other cause, more difficult to satisfy, than food to create something like a war. Some kind of racist issue among leafeaters or hunting territory issue among sharpteeth may lead us to something more like war rather than a sharptooth's supper. Nevertheless there is always a high risk to anthropomorphise dinosaurs too much by letting them think and act the way humans would. As for sharpteeth, I don't think the larger kinds of them are likely to hunt in large packs. The smaller raptors seem to be more like herd animals, but again what should they fight a war for? Suppose that a pack of 100 raptors slay 200 other dinosaurs (thereby loosing 50 from their ranks). The result would be 50 raptors eating as much as they can but many dinosaur corpses just rotting in the sun as the raptors couldn't possibly eat us so many dinosaurs (unless they were all pretty small). So it would be much more logical for those raptors to attack and kill just one or two dinosaurs (taking almost no risk to loose anyone), eat their fill and then go for the next prey once they are done with the last. Why would they want something like a war?
-
Would sure be interesting to have Ducky talk for a villain (as Petrie already did).
With that innocent voice, if she does voice a villain, she just may fool us all. Its not all that unusally for Jeff Bennett to do more than one voice, he's a very talented voice actor. Just listen to his voices in the series "Gargoyles".
