Even internet purchases (ie itunes) count. So what has earned your hard-earned dollar?
Edit by Mumbling: updated title for clarity.
-
Over the past week these cds have made it into my collection:
An American Tail
Anastasia
Avenue Q
Classic Julie, Classic Broadway (Julie Andrews sings tunes from musicals)
Coltrane's Sound
My Favorite Things (another Coltrane album)
Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits
The Pebble and the Penguin
About $55.00 total. :) Not too bad, but I"m done for a while. :P:
-
Hmm, being out of a job isn't great for picking up new music but here is what I have picked up within the last couple of years:
Imports (overseas):
Nightwish - Once
Nightwish - Angels Fall First
Nightwish - Oceanborne
Nightwish - Wishmaster
Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night
Sonata Arctica - Silence
Domestic (continental):
The Land Before Time - OST
Labyrinth - OST
Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2 - OSTs
-
This past week, four more cds have arrived at a total of $28
- Pure 80's (the original release)
- The Prince of Egypt
- Chicago (from the 2002 movie musical)
- The Disney Afternoon Songbook: Hits from the TV Shows
I try to get new stuff once every month. :)
-
I haven't bought anything lately, been sort of short on cash since I had to replace the breaks on my car \:
I'm looking for a Doors LP though. My dad just turned 50, and he's quite a big fan. I wasn't able to buy it for his birthday, but I intend to give it to him any time soon. The one I'm looking for is the one with Jim Morrison's poems.
-
Last thing I bought was Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight album.
-
In the last month...only two things:
HALO 3!
and a choclate chip cookie! :D
-
Actually, I've never bought music before in my life. Not CD's or music downloads. I'm just not much of a music person. :P:
-
A couple weeks ago i bought an electric bass. My friend is teaching me how to play but i haven't had to much time lately because of school work.
-
Three more:
Cars Soundtrack (from the Pixar film)
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
First couple of listens I'm mostly disappointed with the Harry Potter one. John Williams didn't really but a strong theme to build around in this album, so nothing seems connected. That's unusual for him. The first, second, and last tracks are good.
-
Didn't know it was for cd & audio only.
-
I finally got The Songs From The Land Before Time (http://www.amazon.com/Songs-Before-Video-Soundtrack-Anthology/dp/B000003L2M/ref=sr_1_2/002-7655035-6678454?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1190927316&sr=8-2) into my collection. I guess action9000's weird shareware policy finally paid off. :D

I'm glad the policy kind of, ish, makes sense. :P:

Banjo Tooie
Very good but has horrible framerate in some areas.
Oh, and Viva Pinata, which I regret to say, is not what I thought it'd be like... Oh well, I still love Rare.
-
Oh wait, this is in the sound section. Aahh well my bad :slap
-
I just picked up the new Nightwish CD today, "Dark Passion Play". Some great tracks if you like rock. One track is a staggering 13:53 long. :o
I also picked up the new Sonata Arctica CD, "Unia". This is kind of an odd one. The first 5 or 6 tracks aren't anything special but it gets better. :)
-
I just got the "Enchanted" soundtrack. The Carrie Underwood track is very cool.
-
These four cds were added recently:
- Titanic
- Lifescapes: The Lake (reminds me of camping trips)
- Over the Hedge
- Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite
-
It was starting to get a little messy with cds I've purchased over time just kind of stacked up helter skelter, so I reorganized all my cds (grouped by genre) and discovered I have no really good way to store 124 audio cds. :P: Biggest waste of a half hour. I think I need another one of those really big cd stands.
-
The newest one that I just added to my collection is the Disney's Animal Kingdom Soundtrack.
-
More stuff I've added lately:
Michael Crawford - The Disney Album
Shania Twain - Shania Twain (her debut album before she made it big)
MGM Studio Orchestra - The Wizard of Oz Deluxe Edition Soundtrack
Jerry Goldsmith - Mulan Soundtrack
Andrew Sachs - The Mistmantle Chronicles Book 1: Urchin of the Riding Stars (audio book)
I've still at least $30 left over in amazon gift certificates. :)
-
Hmm, do used LPs count? I've bought quite a few of those... A couple Miles Davis albums, "B****es Brew" and "You're Under Arrest," Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "So Far," and, uhh... Hmm... Even so, that was a while ago... Got lots of 'em from when I was a kid, good thing I've got a record player that plays them at the EXACT speed...! As far as CDs go, among the lot, a few are:
"Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits," "Journey's Greatest Hits" (I actually have TWO of these; the original version, and this is the reissue with a bonus track.), a double-disc Nat King Cole compilation, and a double-disc Smooth Jazz compilation. Think I bought more than that, but I can't remember now... Oh yeah, and a Classic Rock compilation.
EDIT: Seeing as how I'm brokeback poor most of the time, I only really see money twice a year: Xmases (which I don't celebrate much anymore due to a change in my beliefs, yet, gifts are, well, fine; if someone wants to give me a gift, it's always welcome; yet, it is more blessed to give then to receive), and my birthday. Which IS coming up in about a week and a half...
-
Didn't know it was for cd & audio only.
-
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'd bought a few more LPs than that: "In the Groove with the Kings of Swing," a six-LP "Swing" boxset; "The Longines Symphonette Goes Pops," an eight-LP Classical set, with all popular, short selections; hmm, and a couople more Classical LPs - one of them a Mozart. Hmm, there's a few more though... One at at time, I'm "ripping" them to my third computer, and encoding them to FLAC.
-
What I've bought recently?
Last week I bought a new MP3 player for 998 SEK = 162,95 USD.
I regreted it imidiatly, the player was dumb!
Even more bad, I had wasted that money on it!
So, I put in an advertisement on the player, hoping to sell it.
It worked, I sold it for 900 SEK!
Afterwards, I went to town and bought a Samsung P2 for 1299 SEK = 212,10 USD.
Now I'm happy about, I love Samsung's "gadgets!" :^.^: I'll stick to it.
The sound's awsome, and now I'll rip some music from my CDs.
Also bought a bike-computer for my cousin's birthday! :^.^:

Just a heads-up:
This topic is for discussing new music/audio purchases (CDs, etc.), not just any purchase in general.
No worries though, except for where it's posted, it's not exactly obvious. :p
-
I purchased the new land before time through the eyes of the spiketails!!! :DD
-
Just today added
Brian Setzer Orchestra - Wolfgang's Big Night Out (jazz/big band/classical fusion :D )
Clay Aiken - A Thousand Different Ways (from the former American Idol runner up)
-
Music/audio purchases only! There is no general "what did you buy" topic on the GOF (not yet anyway).

Yes, however, this topic is under the "Sound Off!" thread which is music. So if you link the music thread and this topic together, you get a="What have you bought recently?" thread.
There is no general "what did you buy" topic on the GOF (not yet anyway).
I'll make that! :) So other people don't accidently post just random purchases here.
Here's the link for random purchases:link (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=3465)

Lately, I just got two new albums. First one is by Within Temptation. Awesome goth metal music! The second one is the latest album by Disturbed. I think their music is the reason I really like heavy metal!

^ itunes, amazon.com??? :)
I haven't kept track of what I've recently bought. Those darn "come back to emusic and get 75 songs free" always get me back for a few albums legally at $.15 a song. :p
-
I've just added What The Hell by Avril Lavigne and My Immortal by Evanscene to the vast collection of my iPod music list. :D
And right now I'm downloading Land Before time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers off iTunes.
-
Just bought Stand Up And Fight by Turisas, their first new album since 2006. And boy have they changed:
1. New costumes (less fur, more leather)
2. New musician (replaced the accordianist with a girl, who is really good and is a decent singer too)
3. Used a REAL brass and strings section, as opposed to keyboards
4. Almost completely power metal, with a few hints of viking metal, and 1 folk-metal song (all about hunting pirates)
Long story short, it is awesome. Nygard's voice is amazing as usual, from his screeching growls, to his operatic melodies, and the choral bits are just chillingly good.
-
I've basically completed my Beach Boys collection by getting the last of the albums I didn't have, including everything post Pet Sounds (I own all the albums before Pet Sounds). I just need the Party album, but I'm in no rush for that. So I'm feeling pretty accomplished now that my collection is complete from Surfin' Safari to their self titled "The Beach Boys" album (Still Cruisin' was after they broke up as a touring group so... yeah). :DD So my purchases basically include:
Smiley Smile
Wild Honey
Friends
20/20
Sunflower
Surf's Up
Carl and the Passions
Holland
15 Big Ones
Love You
M.I.U
L.A. Light
Keepin' the Summer Alive
The Beach Boys
Yeah... I'm feelin' pretty good about these right now, and each have such a unique sound to them and unique themes, which is another reason why I really like this band. :p
-
Vanessa Carlton's "Be Not Nobody" and Sheryl Crow's "Tuesday Night Music Club"---both at a fantastic price. The latter is such a great album, you simply must get it!! :exactly
Oh, I also like Rush, too, NaNaNa. I love their song "Time Stand Still". :smile I might get an album of theirs next time.
-
The Tintin movie.
-
The Muppets (2011 film)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (American version)
-
Amigos - Sommertr‰ume
-
I haven't bought any music in a while. However, my last purchase on iTunes was "The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar". Great overlooked Bob Dylan song.
I'd also consider getting the Land Before Time soundtrack by James Horner. That'd make for some great music to listen to on a long car ride through the mountains.
-
Just few days ago I bought 3 Halo novels from Amazon, (The Fall of Reach, The Flood and First Strike) cost me about 40€ but it was worth it. :) I'm a big sucker for Halo. :yum
-
I recently bought a book called ''Automate boring stuff with python''
-
I updated the title of this post to prevent further confusion. Please post here for generic purchases: http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=3465
