Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Official: Land Before Time Series
« on: August 14, 2005, 08:48:50 PM »
I see this as no surprise.  The reason being is because I think the franchise is actually making less money than it once was, thereby leading to a tv series.  TV series can get away with choppier animation and still be OK, so it technically should cost less in the short run to change production.  As Littlefoot said, Universal's in this for money--and they can save money by changing the method of production.

I can't predict what will happen.  Sure there will be "regulars" and I suppose Ali could be one of them; she has yet to return.  Time will tell what will happen.

*removing my rose colored glasses that say "I hate sequels" for a moment to answer this question*

The one thing I most certainly would do, is keep out songs.  The original worked fine without them.  I'm not even in favor with the Dreamworks method of putting in pop songs instead of having characters sing--while better in some cases, I think an instrumental score would be the best.

Plotwise, I'm not sure what else can be done.  Let's put it this way--this film was never meant to have a sequel.  Never.  The ending tells all:

Quote
And they all grew up together in the valley.
Generation upon generation.
Each passing on to the next, the tale of their ancestors journey to the valley.
Long ago.

I guess the only sequel that could theoretically work and not discredit the original film's ending, is to have all the characters grown up, and their offspring somehow follow a similar plotline, to therefore have some sort of story that can be related to, and why certain actions shouldn't be taken (Threehorns never play with long necks, etc.).

Silver Screen / New to the Big Screen

I did go and see this as well, and it too was quite good.  It's been ages since I've read the book, but from what I can recall, it wasn't as friendly as the 1971 version, but yet I also don't think it was as queer as Burton's take on it.  Also, I don't remember Wonka being pure gold in the book either.  Both films have their pluses and minuses respectively.

Forgot to say that yes, I too downloaded that film and thoroughly enjoyed it. :)  Nicely blended with what went on the screen.

Ooh, sounds hard.   Best of luck.  That doesn't sound like a topic I'd want to study. :P:

The Party Room / LBT quizes
« on: July 24, 2005, 09:17:56 AM »
Hmm...I took the "difficult" quiz and there are a couple of flaws with it.  The first question, they say the answer is cretaceous when asking what time period the film is set in, but apatosaurus (Littlefoot) would have lived in Jurassic, so the answer should be 'no specific time'.  The other one had to do with Spike.  Saying Spike is 'pathetic' is a matter of personal opinion, whereas the rest of the questions were fact about the character himself, so that needs some revising to be a good question.

General Land Before Time / European Release of LBT 11
« on: July 20, 2005, 09:24:42 PM »
With most people opting to get region free players these days, I'd say the companies that sell only the region 2 dvd lose more money because of such a long waiting period when it's remarkably simple to just buy another region and watch it nine months sooner..

LBT has never once made me cry.  Can't for the life of me figure out why since I get choked up when you hear that gunshot in Bambi...must be subliminal. :P:

Heh I guess you're not into alcohol then. :P:  Genny is short for Genesee (the beer), and a mudslide is an alcoholic drink.  Tastes just like spiked chocolate milk. :)

Announcements / Surgery
« on: July 18, 2005, 03:12:39 PM »
That sounds like a very familiar operation....in fact, if you had to reattach a retina, that's exactly what I had to have done eight years ago.  They had put a fluid in there as well to keep it there, however, the downside to the operation is I received a cataract in that eye.  I've never had it taken out, and unless it nearly makes me blind, I don't plan to either.

Best of luck on your road to recovery.  I remember I didn't do anything for two weeks...and had to keep my head in a certain position--down so the fluid would press against the retina.  Is this what you have to do as well?

The Fridge / Arvens Site is down
« on: July 17, 2005, 07:06:12 PM »
Yup...not even a day after I moved the site all the free accounts at that host were deleted. :yes  If I wasn't a staff member I would've been scrambling now not knowing where to go, but sometimes it's about who you know. :D

I can assure you, it will stay at this place for a very long time.  The other host was suddenly sold and all the staff set up a new place and left, so I had an advantage by knowing it was coming and had backups and everything. :)

Best of luck.  I went through a very serious eye surgery back in '97 and I don't know how serious your problem is that would require surgery, but I hope for the best. :)  You probably have options I didn't have at the time.

  Why are the best jokes nowadays always the ones about those that are seriously computer illiterate?

Speaking of computers:

Customer Service: Ok, you're going to need to turn on your computer and open up Windows so I can walk you through the process.

Caller: What are you crazy, it's -20 out there!

Considering the region 1 dvd has "brontosaurus" written on the back of the cover in the movie description I guess accuracy doesn't matter to a lot of people.    "Brontosaurus" has been incorrect for decades...long before dvd's were even invented.

That's a tough call.  I guess I'd have to say cold since my bad plant allergies make it hard to enjoy a moderate/warm/hot/humid climate around here. :( :(

Working in your comfort zone or being spontaneous and taking a chance every now and then?

IMO, they both suck.  <_<  Nick only plays the good stuff when I'm not awake or something like that.  CN has Boomerang with the older cartoons from Hanna-Barbera but that's a specialty channel and we don't get it anymore. :(

A quick read or a long novel?

Yeah, that's an oldie. :p

I saw two older looking ladies trying to figure out the computers at a local store. I knew one of them would say something that I could send to Computer Stupidities, so I tried to listen in.

* Woman 1: "What is that little trash can on the screen?"
* Woman 2: "My son says that is call the 'recycle bin'. He tells me when I don't want a Word document anymore and I delete it, it really goes in there."
* Woman 1: "Why in the recycle thingy? Can't you just erase it?"
* Woman 2: "Oh no, Word wouldn't work for very long if I did that, I would run out of blank pages."
* Woman 1: "Why?"
* Woman 2: "Because it cleans the words off the pages, then sends the blank sheets back to Word so they can be used again. That's why it's called the recycle bin."
