Silver Screen / Cars 2.
« on: June 26, 2011, 09:00:38 PM »
So i went and saw Cars 2 on opening day, and i thought it was really great.

One thing i dont get is almost all the critics are slamming it into the ground.

It has a good plot, great animation, great voice acting, although mater's voice (larry the cable guy) you can only take so much of.

I think the problem is people are comparing it to pixar masterpieces like the incredibles or finding nemo.

The cars series from my view, has never been about trying to make something that is the golden egg of theater, but something that wants to be less serious and to have more fun with it.

I wasnt a huge fan of the first cars, but i still liked it alot, and this one is much better i think.

In closing: ignore the critics, go and see the movie and enjoy it for what it is.

WARNING BELOW

try to avoid taking any kid below the age of 8. This may seem odd for a pixar movie, but in short, this movie should not of been rated G. PG at the minimum

Computer and Electronics / Netbooks
« on: January 27, 2010, 03:25:36 PM »
Netbooks - the really tiny computers that you can buy for next to nothing for your every day computer needs.

i picked one up recently, one of Asus's EeePC's and i love it!

i reckon these things are the future. they are really compact, light, and moderately powerful for their size. most of them are upgradable to 2gb of ram and windows 7.

depending on the model, they can come with up to around 7 hours of battery life! :o

mine is the one with the 3 cell battery, so i only get around 3-4 hours. no big deal.

they handle the basic tasks really well. email, web, office stuff etc. and some gaming is also possible. mine even plays WoW! lol

The verdict: if you are looking for a laptop for simple stuff and dont wanna lug around a mountain of computer, i highly recommend a netbook. prices are 280-400.

peace

Computer and Electronics / Cable Vs DSL
« on: August 09, 2009, 05:33:14 AM »
so recently i decided to get rid of my cable internet as it was always crashing.

i have used both before with moderate success, and i have come across the following statements regarding the 2:

Cable: Pros - much faster than any DSL line. modem automatically configures itself. Con - shared connection; the more people on at once, the slower everything gets. kind of unstable; the connection can drop at random, and the speed is rarely consistent.

DSL: Pros - very stable and consistent connection. single line for each house; only you are using it. Con - typically alot slower than equivalent cable service. modem has to be manually configured. tied into phone system; if exchange box in your area dies, so does your net (not sure on this one).

those are my views on it. there are probably other points about both of them that ive missed out though. please post your comments and views on each.

CONCLUSION:

DSL wins. reason being, for me, is the connection is tons more stable. the bandwidth is more consistent, so the speed isnt going to fluctuate as much.

Cable is nice and fast, but for me, doesnt really have anything else going for it.  for most though ,the speed is what draws them into getting cable over DSL when they have the choice.

what do you reckon? :).

Computer and Electronics / Windows Movie MAker is crashing
« on: July 14, 2009, 12:37:54 AM »
yeah. so basically, im trying to put videos into movie maker so i can edit them and stuff to put on youtube.

problem is, when i import videos to it, and place them in the timeline, movie maker freezes and becomes unresponsive. i then have to force the program to close.

i haven't used movie maker recently as i reformatted to XP. ive also searched far and wide on google for the issue but still cant find any solution :bang .

anyone have a theory on what is causing movie maker to crash? its not any high def video or anything, just game footage that i captured in WMV format.

these are my system specs if it helps:

Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. fully updated through windows update.
Intel E7400 2.8GHZ Dual Core CPU
Gigabyte 945GCM motherboard
nVidia GeForce 8800GT GPU
3GB of DDR2 PC-5300 RAM.

anyone who has a solution or can recommend an alternative, free video editing program, i will be greatly appreciative. thanks :)

The Party Room / How many ways can you say something?
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:01:31 AM »
This game will try to establish just how many ways you can say something that has the exact same meaning, but is worded in a different way.

so an example is this:

one way - did you get a new game today?

second way - so today you picked up a game?

so you just choose something to be the center of the sentences, and you just think of multiple ways to word them :).

sentences can use the same words, as long as it is said in a different way than the one before it :).

doesnt really matter if stuff isnt gramatically correct, as long as its readable, and understandable :D

i would go first but im really tired atm so ima write up something a bit later.

enjoy!

(if this has been done before, just delete this topic)

LBT Projects / Wanna transfer my LBT stuff to computer
« on: February 20, 2009, 12:55:33 AM »
so basically what i wanna do is take my DVDs of LBT movies and TV episodes that i have, and put them in an editable format on my PC. i currently use DVD Decrypter and Handbrake to do all the decoding.

but from what i can see, these programs don't allow me to output in a format that i could take into Windows Movie Maker (i'm cheap )

reason for Movie Maker is i wanna cut clips and stuff to possibly make a few music videos.

anyone have any suggestions on some better software to use? or another way i could do it? i have scoured the web for something that is simple and fast but found nothing.

also, is there any type of format you guys recommend using? for movie maker, im assuming its gonna be WMV format, which as far as i know, takes up a huge amount of space. also, would there be a faster way to speed up the converting/decoding process? or is it more dependent on your computer's hardware?

to my knowledge, this doesn't violate any board rules, as it is for my personal use only. if it does, i apologize and would ask that an admin delete this topic as to not cause any trouble with anything.

thanks :)

1988 Theatrical Release / The Original Soundtrack for LBT
« on: January 16, 2009, 04:33:38 AM »
so recently i was listening to the original score for The Land Before Time by James Horner. i picked it up quite awhile ago for stupidly expensive, paid the equivalent of about 100 dollars for it.

after hearing it outside the movie, though, i realize just what an amazing music score it is. it was done for what is classified as a kids movie, and it can easily hold its own against some top movie scores, like Lord of the Rings etc.

anyone have any particular feelings about it? in my opinion it is one of the most amazing musical scores ever created, and just about the only thing ive heard that has topped it or come close, in an animated movie is the Lion King's score.

my respect to James Horner for bringing such a realistic score to one of the best animated movies ever; The Land Before Time.

Peace.

General Land Before Time / anyone got any good pictures of a Tyrannosaurus?
« on: December 18, 2008, 09:36:00 PM »
so yeah. i wanna change my sig. and im looking for a threatening picture of a sharptooth, of the tyrannosaurus variety.

i searched through the original movie, but didnt find any as good as the one i currently use. i also checked the 10th movie, but the sharpteeth in that were wussies xD.

im thinking i saw Red Claw in quite a menacing pose in a few episodes, but cant remember which ones.

if anyone has any pictures of tyrannosaur sharpteeth, id really love to see them and get another sig rolling xD. thanks :).

PS NO Chomper! hes too cute, no matter how menacing he looks :D

The Welcome Center / Hey, guys! :D
« on: June 05, 2008, 03:52:56 AM »
Greetings from... me! :D

my name is Tyrannosaur (not in real life though :p) and i am a HUGE Land Before Time fan. my love for the series started, as im sure its the same for most people, in my early youth :).

i have actually been shadowing these boards for quite awhile, at least a year, but never  came around to registering until now.

my love for The Land Before Time extends deep, so deep to the point that, around 1-2 years ago, i developed a big obsession over it, not necessarily a bad thing, though :D.

i wanted it all: movies, the songs, the whole nine yards lol. sadly i have to hide this obsession from family and friends as they see it as strange.

ah well, never mind :).

im not very good at the introducing stuff. im a quiet person who loves to read, play games (WoW ftw!) and sleep :).

looking forward to meeting you all and havin' some fun! :D

regards, Tyranno/Tyr/Tyran/Trex/Rex. (typically what people address me as :) )

peace out
