What are your opinions on the scores from LBT1? Which is the best in your opinion?

In my opinion, Sharptooth and the Earthquake is the best, 'cause I like it.

If we hold on together-Diana Ross.

Well actually the whole thing together is the score, and the individual tracks are the selections, but I'll let that slide. :p :p

Its tough to choose.  I think I have to go with the End Credits because it brings in a bit of every theme in the film.

It is difficult to choose a "best" track on the score but here's my analysis and decision:

First of all, I choose "The Great Migration".  I felt this piece of music was a powerful combination of unique theme introductions and stand-alone listenability.  I was very torn between "The Great Migration" and "Sharptooth and the Earthquake" especially because they are both generally fairly intricate and interesting.  I however, felt that "Sharptooth and the Earthquake" suffered in depth in the final bit of the track.  It could have been more, whereas "The Great Migration" was enough.

(I'm writing a detailed analysis of the LBT soundtrack, thanks to this topic.) B)

I agree. I also voted for the great migration because that music helped to set the tone of the movie. Had the music been some typical cartoon music, we would not expect the movie to be nearly as grand and sweeping as it was.

Of all the tracks in the movie, I liked The Great Migration best, for reasons I'm not going to bother trying to explain, because I really have no idea how to.

Pretty good.  I like your analasys of the song.  It puts it into logical and precise terms.  I like to look at things logically.

Whispering Winds is my favorite. Sad, moody, and beautifully played.

I selected Rescue/Discovery of the great valley, because it's one of the most emotional scenes of the whole movie. Still I like the whole score and not just one of the endividual selections.

Wow, this is an old thread :p I voted "If we hold on Together" because..there is just something about that song that has such a strong effect on me. It always makes me wanna cry, no matter how many times I hear it. It makes me feel like I have lost something close to me, yet at the same time, I weep for joy because I know what I love will never leave it. It is like...the theme song of losing a loved one. It has the pain of lose, but the joy of knowing nothing ever ends. It makes me mournful, yet indescribably joyful at the same time.

Where can I find MP3's from this movie? The overall score of the entire movie I believe was what motivated my obsession in my younger years.. so emotional, so moving..

But where can I find MP3? I could only find the main theme on iTunes, but that's it

I've seen them on Limewire every now and then but they sound dreadful because somebody used a shoddy mp3 encoder.  For music this beautiful you want to buy it anyway.

Aye, but there'n lies the problem: where do I buy them?

I've searched all over iTunes (my main music supplier) and was only able to find the main them and If We Hold On Together (beautiful piece) but that's it...

Anything else is just a singalong, which causes my head to throb...

I guess you could find the original CD off of eBay or Amazon (and I'm not talking about the later-made "The Songs From The Land Before Time"), but I imagine it would cost a pretty penny.

I share low-quality rips of the LBT soundtrack on Limewire (well, Frostwire now) on occasion but I don't share my 320kbps (portable use, easy editting) or lossless rips (listening, burning to backup CDs).  I almost might as well just share the full-quality files.  I mean, Universal isn't losing any money from CDs they aren't producing anymore.  The only people benefitting from CD sales are those who are gouging poor buyers.

Well, it must be a very rare CD for it to cost that much.. but seriously... Why not just download freely and burn it to a CD?... Naturally,I'm just going to dump the entire list into my favorites and have it play on shuffle and loop

Why not just download freely and burn it to a CD?...
A few reasons:
1) I'm using $850 speakers and they do show the difference between a 128kbps mp3, which you can find on Limewire, and a lossless rip from a CD.  I'm a music nut and I like my quality. :p

2) There's just something nice about having the original CD on your shelf, in good condition.  It's like any other collection - it's hard to justify but I am happy to have the original CD in my collection. :)

I must admit to having a few cheap reasons for getting the "The Songs From The Land Before Time" off of eBay. :p I've got a little justification there. But I just can't spend $70 on a CD like that. And to be perfectly honest, I, er, "sampled" some OGG files off of a less reputable site (I , of course, destroyed the files afterwards and all backups and derivatives) and it just didn't seem worth $70 to me. I have to say no this time. I'd sooner get the LBT TV DVDs that are out that get that.

As much as it makes sense to share the music, its not the same unless you actually have it in your hands.  Like Tim, I'm a quality mongul and have the equipment to produce it, so I needed the CD...lossy won't do.

Now, what I have done in the past on rare soundtracks (Watership Down notably) is put them on megaupload as 80kbps mp3 files in monophonic sound.  They will not sound bad in this configuration.  I'm not willing to share something I worked hard to get ahold of for free if its going to be sonically the same.

If you're reading this, check back in a bit...I'll have something for you guys.  You know what to expect though, but it'll hold you until you get lucky on the cd. ;)

Just to give a hint: most of the times on ebay, the cd does not reach $70 with shipping included.  When I bought my copy at least four years ago I paid less than $30.  :o  You just need to take a chance and go for it, but it certainly is reasonable.

Bad news for the moment: you're going to have to wait a bit longer...I've tried a couple of things and they just hang after a while.

This is my offer:

-entire soundtrack (comes out to 33mb)
-cd source
-mp3 files, Lame 3.98b5, 80kbps, monophonic

Do you still want me to try again later?

Hello:
This soundtrack is great, when I learned that was made by James Horner I knew it was going to be great since I know his work from Star Trek 2 and 3, great pieces of work.
About this OST, it was hard to decide, but my vote went to "Whispering Winds", it has tons of emotion and it brings some memories back :yes . But the entire OST is great ,aanother good one is the Great Migration, that would have my vote too.

Whispering winds, no doubt!

Since it's the music to LF mothers death it's very very sad and emotional, but I really like all of them
