I'm not sure about the favorite movie, and as for the profile... I didn't think it was necessary until I didn't get the recognition on this site that I thought I was getting... I also started to ramp up my post count at that time too...

What influenced your decision to become a Christian?
Title: Ask and answer
Post by: Noname on August 11, 2009, 12:10:56 AM
I was moved to become a Christian when I realized that there were such things as objective, real "forms", or unchanging ideas of right and wrong. Using these as principles, one could trace them back to one, overall principle, known philosophically as the "form of the good"... the basic idea under which all good things fall... what everything we think of as good has in common... although different people may disagree over what is good or not... only some of those people are mostly correct... and no one is 100% correct unless they are literally a saint (or the person in question is God himself.)

Read up on Plato's forms for a more detailed explanation... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_Forms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_Forms)

Note that it is philosophical and not scientific... I cannot PROVE myself correct... at least, not by the scientific method.

Yes, if I ever find myself in a position to run for public office, I might just do that... maybe I could be a Senator someday... I'll have to be established in my job first, and try to get minor posts, then work my way up, gradually...

My Avatar is a Chi-Rho; an early Christian symbol made up of two Greek letters which stand for "Ch"; the first two letters in "Christ."

And "Stern" was the last name of an old friend.

I like most of his plays. Some, like Timon of Athens and most of his histories are rather... boring and in some cases, too long... but his core of work (Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Henry V, Julius Caesar, a Midsummer Nights Dream, Othello, the Twelfth Night) is VERY good.

If I remember correctly, you once said that you've played all four versions of the game series Civilization. What were your thoughts on that game?
Title: Ask and answer
Post by: Noname on October 11, 2009, 04:09:11 PM
I've played 2, 3, and 4. I think it is a great idea, but one that has to be executed well. From what I've read, the original Civilization was okay, but not that great. It was not until Civilization II that it got really good. Civilization III was a disappointment, IMHO. Civilization 4 is a masterpiece. The only complaint about that game is that it offers so much more in the expansions than in the original game, and that some of the expansions go off in odd directions (space, fantasy realms, etc.)

Overall, I enjoy the series, especially Civ 4; it has Leonard Nemoy as the narrator, has an excellent theme song (Baba Yetu, which is really the Catholic version of the Lord's Prayer sung in Swahili), excellent graphics, and is, on the whole, well balanced and fun.

Why did you disagree so much with my character Harly including a reference to his technologically developed homeland in your RP?  I don't want to raise the issue again, I just want to know why you let me have this on his profile and yet insist I surpress it heavily during the story.

Universes like World of Warcraft, Warhammer, and Rise of Legends have proven that magic and a degree of technology can exist in harmony, so I don't understand what makes it such an athenema to a "Free-Fantasy" RP.

(PS, since you bumped the topic I figured you wanted questions and this was the best one I could bring up.  Don't think that I'm still fuming over this minor incident months later  :smile)

Caustizer.

Mirumoto_Kenjiro: I only bump topics that I think are deserving of comments; you will notice that I've let more topics fall down than be revived. And that was a rude comment. I'm not looking for attention here. I am far from the first person on the GoF who has ever bumped a thread.

Caustizer: Your character can come FROM a certain setting, but when your character is interacting with others in a certain world, he/she doesn't exist in a vacuum. Introducing technology to a magical setting is like giving machine guns to knights in shining armor, it throws off the setting. If a character had access to a semiautomatic while the others used swords, he would be able to out-compete them.

As for Warcraft, Warhammer, and Rise of Legends... those settings are geared towards the lowest common denominator, looking for bland, broad appeal at the sacrifice of content. If anything, they prove that introducing technology to a magical setting waters it down. Imagine King Arthur pulling out a bazooka, or Hercules killing the Nemean Lion with a machine gun.

Because I have respect for you Noname I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but bumping your question thread in order to get more people to ask you things, and then attacking them when they do is not smart nor polite.

...

On the topic of my question, if you want me to keep running with you in your RPs you should not put down my character developments just because you don't necessarily agree with them.

It is after all, a Free Form Fantasy RP.

Since it was not stated at the start that absolutely no technology was to be allowed, according to RP Participation Rule #1 (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=1405) as set by a moderator action9000 I have the right to develop my character however I choose, as different people can interpret "Fantasy" differently.

Caustizer.
Title: Ask and answer
Post by: Noname on November 20, 2009, 08:45:12 PM
I did not attack anyone in this thread. If I did, that would be just plain odd. I only responded to a claim they made, namely, that I was only bumping the thread for "attention." All I did was to explain why I thought that was a rude comment to me. If anything, I'm the one who was "attacked."

You also have to take into account the other players. It wouldn't be fair if they operate on one set of technological rules and you get to operate on a higher level than they are. I never said that "absolutely no technology" was allowed, just keep it consistent with what the rest of the RP setting has.

I don't know what is going on lately. People seem to be more... highstrung. All of a sudden, a number of people have been blowing up on me for no good reason, and apologizing to me later. I think it's the economy... or the holiday season... or both. Unemployment is high, and people have less patience...

Not to be mean, but talking to us like you did I can see why people might blow up on you.  We aren't your enemies here, so quit treating us like we are.  Me and MJ are your friends and really respect the amount of time you put into your RPs, and if life is sucking at the moment we understand but please don't take it out on us.

Caustizer.
Title: Ask and answer
Post by: Noname on November 20, 2009, 09:03:10 PM
That's what I'm asking you and MJ not to do. I'm not doing that. It's what he said to ME that did that. Nothing said on my part.

I'm not taking anything out on you. That whole "bumping" comment on his part was very mean-spirited to me. I'm asking others not to take out their bad moods on me. Several people have so far have.

All I did was to bump a not-very-old thread, then I was criticized for it. I defended myself, and was attacked for defending myself... then accused of somehow being at fault for it.

MK probably ASSUMED that I said "ohh, nobody posts in MY topic so I'll make a bump." That was not the case. I bump any topic that I believe should continue, within a reasonable timeframe.

"You always have to bump to get attention? And does it hurt?" THAT was rude.

FYI: Chi in the Greek alphabet alone is the equivalent of "Ch", and thus Rho, being the equivalent of "R" would give you "Chr", the first three letters of "Christ".
(I've just started learning Ancient Greek, and being the kind of thing which I don't expect life will throw me many opportunities to use, forgive me if I take this one.)

Title: Ask and answer
Post by: Noname on January 22, 2010, 05:38:02 PM
I drink a bit of it every Sunday.  :lol

Its okay if done in moderation. I've seen drunken people, mostly young women, at almost every significant party for young adults I've been to, going back to about age 20. Temperance is important.

P.S. Yes, in English it would be the first three letters, but in the original greek, it would be two letters. I'm kinda splitting hairs here.

The robot man you see in the avatar is Metalder, the protagonist of a similarly named Japanese tokusatsu show; part of the now canceled metal heroes series of shows. In the US, metalder and two others shows were combined to make VR Troopers, which ran parallel to the early seasons of the Power Rangers way back in the 1990s.
