Well, that was an interesting twelve hours. The forum should now be back up and running. Please don't hesitate to let us admins know if you run into any issues.
Logan, off-camera: Did you guys see the Lilo and Stitch remake? Sandra: Yes, I did! It was great! Effran: SERIOUSLY?! You like those soulless, artless films?!
--
Seriously, on another site I'm on, there's been a LOT of arguing about the artistic value of these remakes. I'm not a fan either, but having to listen to the same thing over and over gets old fast.
So as you might've noticed, I kind of vanished from this forum for a while. A looooooong while. And in that hiatus of mine, I came across many different shows and toons that I got super into. The most notable example being Puppy Dog Pals, currently my favorite show of all time. But I won't write an essay on that show today...tempting as it is
Instead, I wanna talk about another, pretty underrated number I got into around fall of last year.
So, Jackie Chan Adventures. What be this show? Well, it's a long story. In the late-90s-early-00s era, Jackie Chan was a pretty legendary actor who had a BIG following. And there's been a bunch of celeb-toons in the past. But honestly, JCA is way better than most other celeb-toons. The lore is really expansive and impressive, and the show expands on everything in a really fun way as the plot moves along. Expect the unexpected - there's plenty of twists and turns and big adventures. You'll never know where this show will take you!
Moreover, the show's cast is super fun. In addition to the likability and coolness of J-Chan himself, there's also his plucky niece Jade, who is probably one of the best kid-appeal characters I've seen in a show. Uncle is also a riot and his dynamic with Tohru in the post-season 1 episodes is great fun. And oh the glorious villains! Shendu is a classic animation antagonist - his threat casts a looming shadow over everything and he's one of the most threatening cartoon villains I've seen. The Dark Hand is also really fun and so are future villains like Shendu's fellow dragon demons in season 2 and Daolon Wong in season 3 (whoever voiced him had a BLAST, let me tell you). But, who is HotelValleyfornia's favorite character? Why, that honor goes to none other than Valmont! When I got into this show, he stole my heart like he steals large amounts of money. He's a genuinely intimidating guy who works as a great arch-rival to Jackie...at first. But as the show goes on, everything he goes through turns him into a downright adorable and pitiable wreck who, come season 4, is REALLY struggling just to get by in life because of everything Shendu has done to him. He's got a great design, a lovely voice with a stunning British accent, he can be both intimidating and funny, and...he's honestly rather attractive, not gonna lie.
One moooooore thing! At the end of episodes, Jackie Chan himself shows up to answer kids' questions, and it's something great for the J-Chan enthusiasts out there!
By all means, I highly recommend checking the show out. It's quite underrated and super enjoyable.
Just my way of spreading the message of this lovely little show. (It needs help to keep going!)
Leftmost redhead: Monica Middle blonde girl: Kylie Rightmost buff dude: Tino Guy behind them: Charles

Isadore, offscreen:...so long story short, I swore off turkey lasagna forever from that day forward. Monica: Oh, you poor thing... Kylie: Tino: Charles: *his nightmares will be haunted forever*
Forgive me if this thread already existed, couldn't quite find a thread similar to it. Oh well.
As an aficionado of animated TV shows, I've always liked discussing which ones are our favorites. And well...let's just say my top favorite cartoons have changed a lot in a few years. So I decided to make this thread to express mine, and allow you guys to express yours.
Ahem...
#10. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Honestly this show has become a huge part of who I am. Frankly I don't think I'd be HotelValleyfornia without it. MLP:FIM is what helped me start paying more attention to animation in general and because of that, it's a big part of how I got into so many of my current favorite cartoons. Thank you Lauren Faust!
#9. Stoked - FreshTV's shows are all soooooooo good dude. And Stoked has always been a show that has stuck with me. First, the soundtrack? Absolutely delightful. It introduced me to SO many songs I love. And also, the main cast is one of the most likable I've ever seen. There's something for everyone with this show, and the beautiful animation just adds even more to it. There's only one real problem...the finale stinks worse than the emissions of a Yellowbelly. Oh well. Still a wondefully fun show!
#8. Bluey - Bluey is one of those shows that is just self-evidently great. It's a delightfully uplifting show with a lot of good vibes all around. There's great lessons for both kids and parents here, and the animation style is charmingly unique. If you need some happy vibes, be sure to check this show out!
#7. Wild Kratts - Yeah, Bluey won't be the only preschool show on here. Though, don't let the young demographic fool you. This show can be surprisingly pretty dark - the showcase of the natural order of animals is pretty uncompromising, and oh MAN the villains. I hate those damn villains. The creators do a FANTASTIC job of making you want these jerks to pay for what they're doing. And just like Stoked, the main cast is wonderfully charming and likable. Though, who doesn't love the Kratt Brothers honestly?
#6. Disventure Camp - In general I'm very fond of all the shows that were inspired by Total Drama. But Disventure Camp was the first, and currently, still my favorite. This is a bit of an interesting one cuz boy oh boy did I HATE the All-Stars season...but honestly, everything else is so good I can't bring myself to care. This takes the animated reality show idea and pushes it into a more realistic lane than Total Drama, with a grittier tone and more serious subjects. Also, I'd probably call Gabby my favorite character in any cartoon...at least for now because someone from my #4 entry might have something to say about that. Definitely my favorite adult-aimed cartoon. At least for now...Exotic Escapade hype!
#5. 6teen - Uh...surprise? Yeah this one kinda fell off a bit. I realized my fixation with this show went to borderline obsession levels and that wasn't really healthy for me. But don't get me wrong at all, 6teen ABSOLUTELY still holds up. It's a very realistic, authentic look into the life of teenagers doing their best to get by in the madness we call life. The main group have an incredibly wholesome friendship and I love their dynamics with each other. And while she hasn't really been my favorite character ever for quite a while...I still treasure what Caitlin did for me in my darkest hours.
#4. Detentionaire - Do you ever find a cartoon that you think might just be perfect? Cuz if you asked me what cartoons I consider perfect, Detentionaire will almost invariably come to mind first. Everything about Detentionaire is amazingly put together. Nothing feels out of place, everything services the plot, and there are so many details you notice upon rewatches it's wild. Also...Tina Kwee might just be my favorite cartoon character ever right now, albeit tied with Gabby. No-one can make me smile like she can! When the only problem with a cartoon you can find is 'it leaves you wanting more when it's over' then you've got a pretty big contender for Perfection right there.
#3. Miraculous Ladybug - Oh. My. GOD. Everything about this cartoon is BREATHTAKING. The animation? Fantastic, incredibly expressive and has amazing action setpieces and transformation sequences. The characters? Every single one of them is at least a LITTLE interesting and charming, and the best of them are some of my all-time favorites. The tone? Feels like it perfectly grows up with the audience, starting off fun and lighthearted and becoming increasingly dark and gripping. The VILLAINS??? BEST OF ALL TIME, NO CAP. It isn't perfect, some episodes could've used rewrites admittedly, but honestly, if you put this show on for me, I'll be sat on my butt watching every minute of it and having the time of my life. Amazing action, amazing animation, amazing characters...it's everything you want and more!
#2. Total Drama - It's been a long time coming but I finally gave this show the #2 spot it rightfully deserved, because honestly? Without Total Drama, there is no HotelValleyfornia. Total Drama is THE show that made me who I am, moreso than any other show on this list except maybe MLP. It was the first of its kind - taking reality TV game shows and turning them into an animated show - and it took full advantage, blurring the lines of fantasy and reality in a wonderful way. And from where I'm standing, it's the cartoon that helped create the modern era of animation. It set the standard that shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and other classic 2010s cartoons would follow. This cartoon is immeasurably important, to both me and to televised animation of the past two decades in general...
But, to me, there is one cartoon that surpasses all of these, simply by being absolutely delightful, adorable and wonderfully funny in every way...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXW8LxZ_H5w Where do I even begin? Now this show might seem like a ridiculous choice to be ANYONE's favorite, and I get that. But this show...hoo my. Puppy Dog Pals is one of the most delightful, uplifting, hilarious and charming shows...perhaps ever, really. People consider it a ripoff of PAW Patrol, but it's so much more than that - the main two characters are incredibly lovable, wonderful people- uh, puppies, expressing nothing but loyalty for their owner and love for their family. Yet they're still believably flawed, too. Every character is just so wonderful, with so many funny and memorable moments. The continuity actually changes as the show goes by, the world really grows in a fun way, and you get introduced to so many likable new characters as time goes on - and you never know who might show up and when! This show always knows how to keep you on your toes. Plus the humor is absolutely immaculate, with witty pop culture references (There's actually a Thelma and Louise reference that almost had me IN TEARS) and some surprisingly self-aware jokes. Also the music? Banger, after banger, after banger, after banger, after banger, after banger. I love absolutely EVERYTHING about this show, and I could go on gushing forever, but I'll cut it here for now.
Phew...I sure typed a lot But honestly, it feels good to get my passion for these wonderful shows out there!
Anyway feel free to list your own favorites! And no need to write essays like I did, lol.
Petrie: Littlefoot! Pull! Littlefoot: Mmph mmph! *pulling* Ducky: Ow! Ow! Littlefoot, you are pulling too hard! I will lose my arms, I will, I will! Littlefoot: Mmph mmph mmph... *Ducky and Petrie gasp* Petrie: LITTLEFOOT! You not use good language! Cera: I may be on the brink of sinking into oblivion, but
Right, so one thing I've always liked doing is using Powerpoint to make pictures - be they memes, or special fancy edits to make up for the fact I can barely draw.
I haven't made many Land Before Time edits, but I did just make one, and I decided to make a thread in case I decide to make more.
So like several LBT fans - like a certain softie for sidekicks we know - I've always been fond of the idea of Ducky and Petrie being a couple. I always found their friendship to be really sweet and I loved all their many, many moments of being affectionate. And I was listening to some Billie Eilish just now and it gave me an idea. I grabbed a couple of Caption This images - thank you to Dalekdino for taking these pictures! - and after a lot of fiddling, I got a pose I'm happy with. (Of course the Petrie pic I took had a rather different artstyle than the Ducky pic, so that took a lot of color correction. Curse you animation evolution! ) "Birds of a Feather" is a lovely song, if a rather dark and heavy one (surprisingly so for a pop hit! But that's just the Billie Eilish guarantee) and it felt like a great fit for an emotional, tender edit like this one. In the end I think this came out alright. Not one of my better edits (though that can be blamed on me still getting used to editing LBT) but could've definitely came out worse.
My urges to make edits usually depend on my mood, so who knows when I'll make another one...but if a good idea hits me, something could definitely come of it. I just gotta tear myself away from Detentionaire for long enough.
Anyway, hope my fellow Ducky/Petrie shippers enjoy this thing. And keep an eye out for more of these.
So the other night before I decided to return to this place, I was pondering on the characters who don't really have official names like the Gang 'o Seven or a few other characters (Redclaw, his Fast Biters, the egg stealers, the VII flyers, etc). We only know so many character names right now, and something I've always wondered is how these characters would be named in conversations with their friends rather than their family members.
So I made this thread for that kind of discussion. Here's where you can share your personal believed names for those characters. Like Grandpa and Grandma Longneck, Mama Flyer, Petrie's siblings, any number of Sharpteeth, etc...
I've only got so many, but there's one specifically I've always held onto. For years now, I always personally believed that Littlefoot's mother's name was "Tori". Think about this; Cera's dad is named Topps, and his now-wife is named Tria. Tria-Cera-Topps. You get my drift? So in LBT10 we meet Bron - and Littlefoot is often associated to be a Bron-tosaurus. And when I thought about it in a similar way to Cera's family, 'Tori' just felt right for Littlefoot's mom. It's a very pretty name, suitable for a warm and compassionate character like her. Granted, it doesn't QUITE fit as well with the naming conventions of the threehorns - but, I'm still happy with the name, and for years, I've stuck to it.
That's the #1 example I have. I'm gonna be giving this some thought so I can come up with names that might fit within the Land Before Time universe. It's harder than I thought Plus I don't wanna end up going the Topps route with EVERY family member.
But maybe some inspiration from you lovely folks here at the GoF will give me the spark I need to keep thinking of names beyond just Mama Longneck. So go wild, folks!
Awfully sorry that your local FreshTV stan vanished like a puff of smoke for like years. Ever since my last appearance here, stuff has been pretty hectic. I’ve been trying to leave the house more often, my mom found a new boyfriend who lives with us now, and my mom has been preparing a new dog grooming job because we’ve been struggling financially for YEARS. With all of…that, on my plate, I’ve kind of not had as much time for LBT.
But, recently I decided “Hey, you know what? I’m gonna listen to Flip, Flap and Fly again”. And yep, still rocks as hard as I remember. And that reminded me of how much I miss hanging out here, talking to folks about dinosaurs and everything else we enjoy. My online circle is pretty small outside of a couple sites and I wanted to return to an old space I enjoyed my time at. Plus, LBT still holds up pretty well for me. It’s always stuck in my mind and no sands of time shall weather it away!
Keep in mind though, since things are still prone to changing a lot around here, I likely won’t have time to keep track of all my PM conversations like I used to. I’m much better with group talk (like stuff in the Party Room and Party Time forums!) rather than private ones anyway. That’s just a me issue, though, so don’t take it personally.
For those of you who forgot who I was or joined after I was active here, howdy. I’m your local fan of all things related to FreshTV and Total Drama, and everything they’ve inspired, as well as good ol’ Land Before Time. Tricia has long been my favorite character for many reasons – she’s cute, she’s pink, and she’s a quick learner. All things that I wish I was. But I'm very fond of Ducky as well.
In terms of how my life has been during my absence…well, I was into Disventure Camp at the time of my disappearance, and that still holds true. Unfortunately…well there are three words to describe the All-Stars season: stink, stank, stunk But luckily season 4 (and the spinoff about Tom and Jake) managed to redeem it for me. But in my absence, MORE Total Drama-inspired shows have begun to show up around the internet. My favorite of these shows, beyond the still-yet-to-be-topped Season 1 of Disventure Camp, has gotta be The Million Game: Academy. There’s only one episode so far but it has already hooked me in HARD. Kati is my favorite character right now. Her adorable sweetness actually reminds me a lot of Ducky Though this is subject to change, there’s a new show coming out called Exotic Escapade that ESPEECIALLY has my attention…
Anything else hmmm…Oh. Caitlin isn’t my favorite fictional character anymore. Surprise? I’ve recently gotten back into Sonic the Hedgehog and…I just remembered just how much Zeena the Zeti has my heart. She barely ever appears in the franchise outside of the comics, but man. Everything about her from her design to her suave, sarcastic sassiness to her relatable laziness to her voice acting (the world needs more of Stephanie Sheh) to…well, just about everything, really. She’s my favorite fabulous space chameleon and she just makes me happy when I think about her.
So…I’m not sure how OFTEN I’ll be active nowadays, but I’ll try and show my face more often. So keep an eye out for me as I wander the GOF once more.
So, I know I've been gone for a while. Oopsy poopsy. But well there's a reason for this, and it's tangentially related to my recent Total Drama fixation in the wake of the new season.
Not so very long ago, a small animation company known as Odd Nation Cartoons joined together to create a little webseries called Disventure Camp - heavily based upon Total Drama, but with a slightly darker tone. The second season was completed earlier this year I think, with a first season (a remake of an older version on YouTube, only in Spanish) currently having new episodes uploaded.
As a low-budget web animation series, it's EXTREMELY well put-together and I give it my maddest of props!
In terms of my favorite characters...Riya, Aiden, Tess and Ally are my favorites from season 2, while Gabby and Ellie are tied for my favorites of season 1. I enjoy all of them a lot...though Riya and Gab+Ell are my overall favorites from the Disventure continuity. And the former two are kind of contentious in the DC fandom lol
Even if you don't know about Total Drama, I highly recommend giving the series a watch, it's super fun and there's a lot of surprises you might enjoy. Though it does tackle some darker subjects on occasion so be prepared for some of that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWHm-DPp-Q0
The end result of an average "Three Guys and a Girl in a Beachhouse" video. Needless to say Chase didn't try the "biking on a wall over someone's backyard with one finger up his girlfriend's nose" joke again.
It's been a long time coming, but a new season of Total Drama arrived recently! We're back to Wawanakwa with a new cast, 15 years after the original season.
In all I REALLY enjoyed the new season, super fun stuff with lots of great moments. It does have its issues (Episode 5 can be a hard watch if you don't care for toilet humor) buuuuut it's overall a SPLENDID season for Total Drama to return with.
Some of my favorite things about the new season is the LGBT romantic arc (won't mention its name to hide spoilers), Millie's character arc, 95% of the characters are GREAT, and it blends the feeling of classic Total Drama with a new, fresh and modern twist on its classic formula, with amazing animation and music. It isn't perfect, but it's SO much fun.
Here's my top 5/6 characters of the season right now... 5. Wayne+Raj (hilarious dudebros with a wholesome arc) 4. MK (little silly snarker with a REALLY cool strategy) 3. Bowie (an excellent strategist with some great snarky humor) 2. Julia (while not personally what I was expecting, she still ended up being really fun in her own way) 1. Priya (ADORABLE.)
And because of this new season, I've went back and gotten into Total Drama as a whole, which I'm really happy about. Even if it's not always the best, I think the entire show still holds up!
By all means, seek the new season out and give it a watch!
This thread has been a long time coming. If you haven't been living underneath a Sharptooth's arse, I guarantee you that you've seen this show brought up at least once.
This show is an absolute SENSATION, on the level I haven't seen since Friendship is Magic first got big over a decade ago (GODDAMN I'M OLD ). And not gonna lie...for good reason, this show is great!
In case you don't know, Bluey is a preschool show about a family of technicolor Australian dogs. Along with the titular character, we have her younger sister Bingo, her mom Chili ("Whackadoo!"), and her dad Bandit, whom many would argue is the true star of the show but we don't have time to talk about that lol.
Episodes generally focus on the two imaginative daughters playing fun games together, often with their parents joining in. Sounds simple, and it is, but these games often lead to them or even their parents learning a life-lesson in some form, all with some great animation and AMAZING music. Seriously, one episode managed to make me cheer for a girl PUTTNG HER BACKPACK ON, partially thanks to playing Ode to Joy throughout.
Some episodes really go the extra mile, in fact. "Sleepytime" is a particularly famous episode, with some of the best animation and music in the show, and an incredibly powerful emotional climax that had me blubbering like a baby by the end. In fact, this show is renowned for its ability to elict tears out of even adult viewers. It's just downright impressive.
In general I've seen this show described as a show for both kids AND their parents, with lots of important lessons to share, hilarious adult jokes, and genuinely being able to move people of all ages. And after watching "Sleepytime", yeah I see why. In fact, on IMDB, Bluey was ranked higher than BREAKING BAD for a while. Yeah. Bluey is that good.
If you're curious, it should be available on Disney+...though not every episode is available oops. There's also plenty of content on YouTube about it, if you wanna learn more for yourself. There's NO WAY I can fully go into detail. But, this is a show I'd definitely recommend. Check it out!
I was just finishing up watching today's Nintendo Direct when suddenly I see this news. And to say I was surprised was an understatement.
Okay maybe not Frozen lol. Frozen continues to be one of Disney's biggest moneymakers, and with the original movie turning 10 this year, why not make a third one? Not sure how well they're gonna continue the plot of the second movie, but I'm open to see what Disney does.
Toy Story 5 is a pretty contentious one. Now I LOVED Toy Story 4, but even that movie's existence was pretty contentious considering how well-loved the third movie is. So you can guess the decision to make a new movie after what SEEMED like an ideal end point that ITSELF came after an ideal end point...yeah it's a surprise to say the least. There's a part of me who thinks that rather than follow-up on Woody's story, it's gonna tell a story focused on a new group of toys. Similar to what the Pokemon anime's doing, I suppose. Course, I could be wrong
Finally there's Zootopia 2. Knowing the love this movie gets, I'm glad to see it getting a follow-up. From what I've heard, the creators may or may not examine the possibility of a Nick/Judy couple in this follow-up, but obviously that won't be the main thing I care about, lol. I just really hope we see some birds or reptiles in this one, it's really odd how they were totally excluded from the original
But, I think these should all at least be decent films. Leave your thoughts down below!
I'm a girl who enjoys strategy and planning out when it comes to the games I play. So it's only natural tower defense games will appeal to me! This is a thread I've created for discussion of the tower defense genre - share our experiences, make jokes, recommend certain games, and just talk. Stuff like that really.
Playing Plants vs Zombies' Survival Endless can be pretty tricky. A lot of my usual strats, even for the pool levels, don't really work out and I end up looking like a darned fool when a zombie waltzes through my defenses and chows on my grey matter. Lots of strategies I've seen usually involve abusing the hell out of Gloom-Shrooms and Cob Cannons, but ugh getting all that sun is HARD I JUST WANT MORE PLANTS FOR MY ZEN GARDEN, CONFOUND IT!
Meanwhile I've also gotten into Bloons TD6. My main goal is to fully level up all the monkeys I have and grind up Monkey Money to buy other heroes. Which is taking forever, lol. But no-one said it would be easy. And no, I ain't paying money to win this thing! As much of a sucker as I can be at times.
But I'll shush for now, and let others take it from here. Feel free to share your tower defense experiences!
So I know I've not been around lately, and I apologize for that. I've been busy lol
But anyway, here's a thread that...probably already existed but I thought it'd be fun to have one of these.
I've had a lot of fun watching different cartoon theme songs lately when I haven't been watching Milo Murphy's Law or Grossology (my current hyperfixations ), and it has me wondering about all of your favorites.
Here's a few of mine (not all of which I've watched lol):
6teen (natch) Milo Murphy's Law Star Vs the Forces of Evil Miraculous Ladybug A Pup Named Scooby-Doo Phineas and Ferb Teen Titans (and HiHi PuffyAmiYumi, for similar reasons ) Detentionaire (but of course) Clone High (WAY WAY BACK IN THE 1980S! ) The Ghost and Molly McGee Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) The Loud House DuckTales (original AND reboot)
