Silver Screen / Disventure Camp: a Total Drama-inspired webseries
« on: August 14, 2023, 09:50:15 AM »
So, I know I've been gone for a while. Oopsy poopsy. :cry But well there's a reason for this, and it's tangentially related to my recent Total Drama fixation in the wake of the new season.

Not so very long ago, a small animation company known as Odd Nation Cartoons joined together to create a little webseries called Disventure Camp - heavily based upon Total Drama, but with a slightly darker tone. The second season was completed earlier this year I think, with a first season (a remake of an older version on YouTube, only in Spanish) currently having new episodes uploaded.

As a low-budget web animation series, it's EXTREMELY well put-together and I give it my maddest of props!

In terms of my favorite characters...Riya, Aiden, Tess and Ally are my favorites from season 2, while Gabby and Ellie are tied for my favorites of season 1. I enjoy all of them a lot...though Riya and Gab+Ell are my overall favorites from the Disventure continuity. And the former two are kind of contentious in the DC fandom lol :oops

Even if you don't know about Total Drama, I highly recommend giving the series a watch, it's super fun and there's a lot of surprises you might enjoy. Though it does tackle some darker subjects on occasion so be prepared for some of that.

Silver Screen / Total Drama is back!
« on: June 20, 2023, 05:53:49 AM »
It's been a long time coming, but a new season of Total Drama arrived recently! :celebrate We're back to Wawanakwa with a new cast, 15 years after the original season.

In all I REALLY enjoyed the new season, super fun stuff with lots of great moments. It does have its issues (Episode 5 can be a hard watch if you don't care for toilet humor) buuuuut it's overall a SPLENDID season for Total Drama to return with. :ChomperPOG

Some of my favorite things about the new season is the LGBT romantic arc (won't mention its name to hide spoilers), Millie's character arc, 95% of the characters are GREAT, and it blends the feeling of classic Total Drama with a new, fresh and modern twist on its classic formula, with amazing animation and music. It isn't perfect, but it's SO much fun. :Mo

Here's my top 5/6 characters of the season right now...
5. Wayne+Raj (hilarious dudebros with a wholesome arc)
4. MK (little silly snarker with a REALLY cool strategy)
3. Bowie (an excellent strategist with some great snarky humor)
2. Julia (while not personally what I was expecting, she still ended up being really fun in her own way)
1. Priya (ADORABLE.)

And because of this new season, I've went back and gotten into Total Drama as a whole, which I'm really happy about. Even if it's not always the best, I think the entire show still holds up! :DD

By all means, seek the new season out and give it a watch!

Silver Screen / Bluey!
« on: February 24, 2023, 10:49:17 AM »
This thread has been a long time coming. If you haven't been living underneath a Sharptooth's arse, I guarantee you that you've seen this show brought up at least once.

This show is an absolute SENSATION, on the level I haven't seen since Friendship is Magic first got big over a decade ago (GODDAMN I'M OLD :wow ). And not gonna lie...for good reason, this show is great! :celebrate

In case you don't know, Bluey is a preschool show about a family of technicolor Australian dogs. Along with the titular character, we have her younger sister Bingo, her mom Chili ("Whackadoo!"), and her dad Bandit, whom many would argue is the true star of the show but we don't have time to talk about that lol. :p

Episodes generally focus on the two imaginative daughters playing fun games together, often with their parents joining in. Sounds simple, and it is, but these games often lead to them or even their parents learning a life-lesson in some form, all with some great animation and AMAZING music. Seriously, one episode managed to make me cheer for a girl PUTTNG HER BACKPACK ON, partially thanks to playing Ode to Joy throughout. :Mo

Some episodes really go the extra mile, in fact. "Sleepytime" is a particularly famous episode, with some of the best animation and music in the show, and an incredibly powerful emotional climax that had me blubbering like a baby by the end. In fact, this show is renowned for its ability to elict tears out of even adult viewers. It's just downright impressive.

In general I've seen this show described as a show for both kids AND their parents, with lots of important lessons to share, hilarious adult jokes, and genuinely being able to move people of all ages. And after watching "Sleepytime", yeah I see why. In fact, on IMDB, Bluey was ranked higher than BREAKING BAD for a while. Yeah. Bluey is that good.

If you're curious, it should be available on Disney+...though not every episode is available oops. :areyouserious There's also plenty of content on YouTube about it, if you wanna learn more for yourself. There's NO WAY I can fully go into detail. But, this is a show I'd definitely recommend. Check it out! :)petrie

(also GOD is that theme tune catchy...)

I was just finishing up watching today's Nintendo Direct when suddenly I see this news. And to say I was surprised was an understatement. :ChomperImpressed

Okay maybe not Frozen lol. Frozen continues to be one of Disney's biggest moneymakers, and with the original movie turning 10 this year, why not make a third one? Not sure how well they're gonna continue the plot of the second movie, but I'm open to see what Disney does. :duckyOK

Toy Story 5 is a pretty contentious one. Now I LOVED Toy Story 4, but even that movie's existence was pretty contentious considering how well-loved the third movie is. So you can guess the decision to make a new movie after what SEEMED like an ideal end point that ITSELF came after an ideal end point...yeah it's a surprise to say the least. :littlefoot There's a part of me who thinks that rather than follow-up on Woody's story, it's gonna tell a story focused on a new group of toys. Similar to what the Pokemon anime's doing, I suppose. Course, I could be wrong :thinking

Finally there's Zootopia 2. Knowing the love this movie gets, I'm glad to see it getting a follow-up. :rainbowwave From what I've heard, the creators may or may not examine the possibility of a Nick/Judy couple in this follow-up, but obviously that won't be the main thing I care about, lol. :PLoofah I just really hope we see some birds or reptiles in this one, it's really odd how they were totally excluded from the original :screechconfused

But, I think these should all at least be decent films. Leave your thoughts down below! :littlefoot:)

Gamers Zone / HotelValleyfornia's Tower Defense Discussion Thread
« on: January 30, 2023, 06:44:31 AM »
I'm a girl who enjoys strategy and planning out when it comes to the games I play. So it's only natural tower defense games will appeal to me! This is a thread I've created for discussion of the tower defense genre - share our experiences, make jokes, recommend certain games, and just talk. Stuff like that really. :OhYou

Playing Plants vs Zombies' Survival Endless can be pretty tricky. A lot of my usual strats, even for the pool levels, don't really work out and I end up looking like a darned fool when a zombie waltzes through my defenses and chows on my grey matter. :Chomp Lots of strategies I've seen usually involve abusing the hell out of Gloom-Shrooms and Cob Cannons, but ugh getting all that sun is HARD :sducky I JUST WANT MORE PLANTS FOR MY ZEN GARDEN, CONFOUND IT! :whatdidyousay

Meanwhile I've also gotten into Bloons TD6. My main goal is to fully level up all the monkeys I have and grind up Monkey Money to buy other heroes. Which is taking forever, lol. :rhett_smile But no-one said it would be easy. And no, I ain't paying money to win this thing! As much of a sucker as I can be at times. :thudLOL

But I'll shush for now, and let others take it from here. Feel free to share your tower defense experiences! :bronGoodJob

Silver Screen / What are some of your favorite cartoon theme songs?
« on: January 23, 2023, 03:48:41 AM »
So I know I've not been around lately, and I apologize for that. I've been busy lol :rhett_smile

But anyway, here's a thread that...probably already existed :oops but I thought it'd be fun to have one of these.

I've had a lot of fun watching different cartoon theme songs lately when I haven't been watching Milo Murphy's Law or Grossology (my current hyperfixations :PLoofah ), and it has me wondering about all of your favorites. :littlefoot:)

Here's a few of mine (not all of which I've watched lol):

6teen (natch)
Milo Murphy's Law
Star Vs the Forces of Evil
Miraculous Ladybug
A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
Phineas and Ferb
Teen Titans (and HiHi PuffyAmiYumi, for similar reasons ;)Cera )
Detentionaire (but of course)
Clone High (WAY WAY BACK IN THE 1980S! :Chomp )
The Ghost and Molly McGee
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987)
The Loud House
DuckTales (original AND reboot)

And here's my top 5:

5. What's New Scooby-Doo?
4. Stoked
3. Ben 10

2. ChalkZone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGs33iHHttM

Those are just a few of mine. I'd like to hear yours! :petrieLOL

Silver Screen / The Cartoons of Dan and Swampy
« on: December 22, 2022, 01:43:52 AM »
So, it wasn't long ago that a new Disney show called Hamster and Gretel came out. This show is the latest creation of Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh - a famous duo of Disney workers who have been well-regarded by Disney fans for...over a decade now! :GuidoAAAAAHHHHHH

So let's take you all through the three major Dan-Swampy Disney cartoons, cuz I'd love to discuss them with you guys.

Phineas and Ferb
Okay so this is the one you're probably most familiar with. In this show we follow the lives of two stepsiblings who are on summer vacation who spend their days doing the craziest, wildest stuff to make the most of their time off school. In the process, their older sister Candace tries her best to catch the two in the act and show off what they're doing to their parents. Meanwhile, the family's pet platypus Perry lives a secret life as an agent for a company based on thwarting the evil plans of a great many villains, with Perry's heroics usually against Dr. Doofenshmirtz of 🎵Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated!🎵

The show usually follows close to a certain formula. Phineas and Ferb decide to do a thing, Candace tries to catch them, their friend Isabella drools over Phineas, Perry runs off to fight Dr. Doofenshmirtz and stop his evil plans, Perry succeeds, "Curse you, Perry the Platypus!", Candace fails to catch her brothers doing a thing... rinse and repeat ad infinitum. I realize it doesn't sound TOO exciting, but the show has a LOT of fun with its formula, throwing in all sorts of twists and witty jokes. But I'll shut up about this one for now cuz...let's face it, you all know about it by now :PLoofah

Milo Murphy's Law
This is probably my favorite of the three. Taking place in the same town as the above, we follow the life of the titular Milo Murphy, an ancestor of the man who defined Murphy's Law - "if it can go wrong, it will". Due to his heritage, Milo deals with extreme and uncontrollable bad luck - but he's very optimistic and is usually prepared for anything. He's accompanied by his two best friends - Melissa, a fun and snarky tomboy with a heart of gold, and Zack, a neurotic but good-hearted nerd who is new to town.

This show is a mite more complex than its predecessor, with exciting running plots that move at a nice pace along with the generally slice-of-life episodes. The Murphy family curse of bad luck may be what the show focuses on, but it has a very idealistic tone and the main three friends clearly love each other a lot, and I think this is one of the most likable main casts of any show I've seen. Melissa in particular might be Sprig Plantar's competition for my favorite Disney TV character period. She's just so adorable, likable and funny, she's a major comfort character for me right now. :petrieLOL I'd go into more detail on why I'm such a fan of this show, but I do NOT want to spoil it for you. Just watch it for yourself, it's amazing!

Hamster and Gretel
This is the latest of the three. In this one, a young girl and her pet hamster are given super-powers by an alien race, and thus, the two get up to numerous superheroics while trying to hide their identity. They're helped along the way by the girl's long-suffering older brother ("There's also Kevin in the mini-van!"), who tries to deal with his daily teenager life while also helping his younger sister lead her double life.

It's kinda early to tell how much I'll end up liking this show right now, because WOO does it have a lot to live up to...and I often feel really bad for Kevin, the poor guy's been dealt a really cruddy hand by life and I don't always find his treatment that funny. But the show DOES have a lot of funny moments in its own right...I mean come on, it's a superhero parody made by the Phineas and Ferb guys! Of COURSE it's got some great comedy :PAli

Anyway, those are the three major Dan and Swampy cartoons that exist right now. I'm curious to know your thoughts! :)petrie

Silver Screen / PAW Patrol!
« on: May 01, 2022, 03:12:16 PM »
Wait did this have a thread yet? I haven't seen it in the past. Forgive me if it did already exist! :sducky

Well anyway, recently this show has begun to weasel its way into my mind. For whatever reason :thinking I'm not sure why, but I find this show to be a lot of fun. I've seen clips of it and despite it being aimed at a younger demographic than most of the shows I watch (you won't be finding "I'm a CIT!" "More like a B-I-T-C..." here), and not having as much character development or story arcs as other shows I watch, it has a LOT of charm and fun moments that give it a lot of appeal. There's plenty of fun for the adults as well as the kids - one episode even has a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference. :lol

I'm not sure who I'd call my favorite character from the show. Skye is REALLY cute, but Marshall is hilarious. And all the other pups have their own charms. There's something for everyone here.

But yeah. This is a pretty simple cartoon, but despite being aimed at a young demographic, it's a really endearing show with a lot of its own charm. And it even has its own movie which is pretty good...though Kim Kardashian is in it, and I'm STILL not sure how to feel about that :GuidoAAAAAHHHHHH

Anyway...if you're into this show at all yourself, or have something to say regarding it, feel free to drop it below! :chomper

https://perchance.org/incorrect-quote-generator

This here? This is my new favorite thing. I've been playing with it all day. :lol It has some really funny quotes that can often be surprisingly accurate to what the cast would do in situations like this. :p So I figured...why not make a thread for it? Here we can enter some of the Land Before Time characters' names and see what they say! :)littlefoot

Here's a few of my examples:
--
Chomper: Yesterday, I overheard Petrie saying “You sure this a good idea?” and Cera replying “Trust me,” and I have never moved from one room to another so quickly in my life.
--
Cera: Chomper, what do you have?
Chomper: A KNIFE!
Cera: Okay, have fu-
Littlefoot: NO!
--
Ducky: Hey random, what are your favorite flowers?
Petrie: Peonies, why?
Ducky:
Petrie: You going to get me flowers?
Ducky:
Petrie:
Ducky: it is a possibility
--
Littlefoot: You’re a loose cannon, Cera.
Cera: No, I’m not. I’m a cannon, maybe, but a loose cannon? Is that what you think of me?
Chomper: I think you play by your own rules.
Petrie: No way, they think rules made to be broken.
Littlefoot: Those are all attributes of a loose cannon.
Cera: No, I’m just a reckless renegade. Ducky is a loose cannon.
Ducky: *smashes a rock* Aah! You shut your trap, Cera!
Petrie: Me say Ducky more of a cop on the edge with nothing to lose. That an entirely different thing.
Chomper: Now I’m just confused. Is Cera a loose cannon or not?
Littlefoot: All right, put on a pot of coffee. We’re gonna get to the bottom of this.
Cera: *groans*
Ducky: Aw, man.
--
Littlefoot: So I have made the decision to trust you.
Cera: A horrible decision, really.
--
Ruby: Hold on! I’m having one of those things... a headache with pictures.
Petrie: What the eggs?
Ducky: They’re having an idea.

Feel free to make your own contributions! :)petrie

Role Play Discussion / Brainstorming a BETTER RP idea
« on: April 25, 2022, 06:21:57 PM »
Well, the 6teen RP thread I did went almost nowhere. :ChomperBurned Oh well. Shows me for trying to create an RP for a show as obscure as 6teen. :sducky

But after more thinking and chatting with friends, I came up with a perhaps BETTER idea: a massive crossover (in the style of Insane Cafe) that essentially brings together...almost every Canadian cartoon ever in a clash for the ages. Everyone is here! Essentially, it's a mega-crossover war fic, but as an RP.

The main cartoon in this, AKA the one focus will initially be on before introducing the other Canadian cartoons will be the famous My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Other major cartoons will include FreshTV's works, Detentionaire and probably Ed, Edd n' Eddy too. In fact there will be a LOT of major cartoons - I just need help deciding which ones will be more major than others.

The plot is this...

Taking place after "The Last Problem", a ruthless sociopath Pegasus named Shadowmoth is tired of the way Equestria is, and wants to turn things around to the way she wants things to be...AKA, committing crimes, manipulating others to work under her, and eventually amassing a huge army of Equestrian creatures to take over Equestria...and beyond. After finding an old artifact that can reverse petrification, she uses it to free Cozy Glow from her stone prison. Shadowmoth takes her in as her protege, and by working together, the two Pegasi become the most feared criminals in Equestria.

The Dragon Lands, however, sense something is afoot...or ahoof, as it might be. Dragon Lord Ember calls Spike in for aid, and the dragons all work together to find some way to deal with Shadowmoth's growing power. However as waves of crime continue to engulf Equestria, Shadowmoth seeks a way to break the mysterious "Blackened Barrier" - a mysterious wall that shields the edges of the Equestrian countries from other kingdoms far away. And if Shadowmoth finds a way to break through the Barrier, total war will descend...

Is there anyone out in the universe that can stop Shadowmoth?

That is what Ember sets out to find out...

LEGIONS OF SHADOWMOTH - An RP by HotelValleyfornia

I'm currently trying to figure out what some of the main cartoons would be...
MLP is obvious
FreshTV's works and Detentionaire would obviously be heavily involved, knowing me :p Been thinking of having Caitlin (6teen) and Tina (Detentionaire) play big roles
Ed, Edd n' Eddy is a must (bring on Sarah and the howitzers!)
Totally Spies and Grossology would fit into a war story perfectly
Paw Patrol would also fit in well if the pups add some military bells and whistles to their equipment. Skye for MVP! :lol
Clone High should probably be added in as well

Here's a full list of Canadian cartoons. I wanna use as many of these as I can
Here's a full list of Canadian cartoons. I wanna use as many of these as I can

I'll need help deciding what'd be the best plan of attack for writing this RP. Who would be fighting Shadowmoth, and who would aid her army in the hopes of her sparing them? Who from each side will turn traitor and go to the other side? What kinds of military weaponry will each side use? (have fun, Serris :p ) Questions like this. Your input is valued!

Here's some extra bits:
- My OCs will almost definitely get involved. So aside from Shadowmoth, expect to see Elsie, Paige, Caleb, Sabrina, and probably numerous other OCs too.
- This website will probably help a lot with some of the planning. Have fun with it!
- I might create a music playlist for it too.
- I might include the Windigos as someone for Shadowmoth to work alongside, since all the sheer hate she exudes would draw them in like a magnet. Of course, she'd probably betray them knowing her :p

Anyway, that's all I'm thinking of for now. Your advice and suggestions wanted! This'll take a LOT of planning, but I'd be fascinated to see it play out ;)Cera
