I'm not even going to touch what has been said on tumblr with a 39 and a half wood pole
Yeah, I agree.  :crazy

I finally got around to see this yesterday. I had planned on going on Thanksgiving, but a headache plus a three hour nap plus getting dragged to go shopping kinda got in the way of that. Overall I think it is a good movie, and not nearly as stupid as the previews would want you to think. As I predicted, Elsa is my favorite character. :^.^: *sings Let it Go*

Silver Screen / Legend of Korra

This show and it's predecessor are the best animated shows I have seen in a long time. The art is especially good; it approaches feature quality!  :yes Not too many animated TV shows have the mature storytelling that Legend of Korra has, let alone ones aimed primarily at kids aged 6-12.

The seasons have been short though, and I guess I've been so busy lately I've missed some episodes from the second one.

I will check if my computer has such a program later and do I really need to draw everything first?  If so, I gotta practise drawing
Well, strictly speaking, you don't have to be able to draw to animate. Most vector-based shows store all of the pieces of a character in a symbol library, and CGI uses rigged models, it's only if you wanted hand-drawn.

Quote
While that is true, FreckledOne, it is extremely time consuming to draw everything out on paper and scan it if you don't have an industrial scanner. If you wanted to go the traditional route you would also have to buy, build, or improvise a light box.
You can certainly animate in a regular art program, preferably a program that utilizes layers, and import the still frames into a different program to test them, but it would be extremely difficult to try to edit and compile a multiple shot animation that way. Even a freeware animation program would be more accessible than that, and would probably save a lot of time.
It does take a little while, but it is doable, and you could also use a digital camera to capture your drawings. For me, the lightbox kind of makes it harder to see what I'm drawing; I just flip through them by hand. I found this really cool turntable clipboard at Goodwill that I use a lot now. You could animate on the go with it!

And I have just the thing  : http://www.pencil-animation.org/
I have... actually used this program to animate a T-Rex before. Hmmm, coincidence?
That animation is here, if anyone would like to view it: http://kelpgull.deviantart.com/art/Rexrun-302102665
That looks promising, but some of the examples they had on the website didn't work. If I didn't already have Flipbook I would try it. Pretty nice T-rex animation, there.  :yes I especially like the angle as it runs towards the screen. I also have a small animation, if you would like to see. It's in my other fanart thread here: http://z7.invisionfree.com/thegangoffive/i...showtopic=12811 It plays back kinda wonky; you might have to try a few times to get it to play back from the beginning.

I actually animated these on paper with pencil, but I assembled them in Flipbook.

I guess the pony scared everyone away.  :o That's okay; I won't post very much pony related fan stuff anyway.

This isn't fanart, but I wanted to share this. I'll keep it as a link, since it is a video:
http://s1159.photobucket.com/user/Freckled...leanup.mp4.html
It might take a while to load, but it's only three seconds long. It is a little test that I did using a character of my own design.

I strongly suggest using a style closest to that used in the movies. It may not be the easiest, but it will look the best.  :angel
You really don't need any fancy expensive programs to animate with. If you draw your pictures on paper, or make them in another program, they can be imported to Windows Movie Maker or something. I think most computers come with some basic video editing software installed, so there is no need to buy something else if you just wanted to experiment.

Perhaps he's on the road to recovery now.  :) It's kinda funny that there are three roles that I always think of when I hear his name; Tybalt from Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, Basil Exposition from Austin Powers, and Pterano.  ;)

I personally don't see the difference between a fan film and a fanfic or fanart, and they're allowed. I think copyright laws have something in them concerning fanworks that basically says as much. You would just have to put disclaimers all over it, saying that it is a fanwork, not official, that you're not making money off it and that the LBT is owned by Universal Studios.

When you ever get to that point in production I would volunteer to help animate. :yes First you might want to think about storyboarding, voices, and layouts after you write the story.

You just need to have your pics uploaded to an uploading service like photobucket, imageshack, etc. and copy the direct link and paste it into the text field that pops up if you click on the IMG button.
You might be able to do that with DeviantArt, but I'm not sure because I don't use it. I was able to take a peek at the link on another computer though. It's always interesting to see others ideas of how the Gang looks as humans. What made you decide on their hair colors/clothes/etc.? Since you made Sharptooth a cyborg, does this version of LBT take place in a futuristic world? Sorry for all of the questions.  :^.^:

Well I'm glad you didn't get expelled. I do have a question though; are you getting some sort of school credit for these videos, or are you doing them as an extra-curricular activity?

As for songs, how about Very Important Creature? Or We're Family and You're One of Us Now? I don't see how your school could get upset over a song about family.

This has already been brought up by Malte, but the quote he mentioned from that magazine article is also in the storyboard book that I have.

You know, Barroth, there is a topic here where people were discussing remaking the deleted scenes into some kind of fan project, if you would be interested.  :)

Disney's adaptation of The Snow Queen. The very basic synopsis is that instead of a girl rescuing a boy from the titular queen as in the story, a girl will be rescuing her sister from herself, kinda (since her sister is the snow queen). This will be released sometime later this month. I have mixed feelings about it. Some aspects of it sound interesting, but others sound, eh, dumb.  :neutral

What do you all think? I will probably go see it, because the part about Elsa sounds decent, and to see if all the negative criticism I've been reading is warranted.

I am inclined to agree with WeirdRaptor; there was footage that was definitely cut. One book that I have (Don Bluth's The Art of Storyboard) says that "nineteen fully animated and many colored T-rex scenes were cut from the movie." However, it doesn't say anything about any cut scenes getting into the home release.
When I watched the original video release I didn't find anything that was different from the anniversary DVD, but that was the North American release.

LBT Projects / An animated LBT fic

I'm curious; is this going to be hand-drawn or vector style (flash, etc.)? Or another medium?
Anyways I wish you luck on this project.  :goodluck I dislike the sound of my voice so I won't offer it, but I hope you will accept some friendly advice. Be sure to take some breaks and to not push yourself too hard. I know from some experience that if I try too hard to finish something within a certain timeframe I will end up burning myself out on it, and I don't want that to happen here.

General Land Before Time / Most Disliked LBT Sequel
« on: October 24, 2013, 09:18:31 PM »
I can't vote for the last two because I haven't actually seen them all the way through. So that still leaves three for me that are my least favorite: 5,6, and 8.

The Mysterious Island was the first sequel that felt different in tone from the others (for me) mostly due to the change in directors. I also disliked most of the songs. The only thing I thought was good was that they brought Chomper back.

Secret of Saurus Rock also had a different tone. The western theme didn't do it for me.   And I still don't like Dana and Dinah; I don't wish death on them or anything, I just don't think they are interesting.

The Big Freeze is on my list mostly because I have no nostalgia for it. I watched it quite a bit after 7 and just didn't get into it.

After all of this, I decided to vote for 6 as my least favorite. But even though I don't like it much, it still has one moment I think is funny: Littlefoot's dialogue when he's trying to get the replacement tooth from the sharptooth's mouth.  :lol

1988 Theatrical Release / Great Valley Color Symbolism
« on: October 24, 2013, 08:38:44 PM »
How are the colors symbolic, though?

Since one of my favorite parts of the original movie is the fact that the lighting changes, it always perplexes me when I hear people complain about it!

I think if Sharptooth had made it to the valley, he would be a more saturated green. So basically I think that all characters' coloring would be brighter and more saturated in the Great Valley.

Figured this deserved it's own post:

Here's what I wrote on Photobucket about it.
Okay, technically this is a fanwork of a fanwork. Of the MLP:FiM fanfic Unmarked by Croswynd. I looked forward to the chapters of this story more than new episodes of the show. I kid you not.
Anyways, here is the main character Novell, looking up apprehensively, unsure of what purpose his life holds.

I've had this finished for a few months, but didn't want it to be the first post of this topic for various reasons. And look! A background!  :o A smudgy and out of focus one, but I wanted Novell to be the main focal point. It's not Friendship is Magic style, but more my style.  ;) I was going for a downcast but hopeful mood with this one.
