LBT Fanfiction / The Land Before Time: A Long Lost Friend
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:23:09 PM »
SOLAR SYSTEM - UNKNOWN

Music starts playing, faintly at first, but slowly growing in intensity. A comet whizzes by, leaving a long trail of dust as a title comes up.

The Land Before Time: A Long-Lost Friend

NARRATOR: Long, long ago, further back than us, further back than the mighty Roman Empire, the first tribes, even before man himself. Before Wolf and Bear, Elephant giraffe, this planet was much different. IT was home to strange and wonderful creatures.

NARRATOR: The most magnificent of these creatures were called the dinosaurs.

Camera zooms down into the earth to show a large migrating herd of spiketails.

MYSTERIOUS BEYOND - NOON

NARRATOR: Many of these majestic creatures were plant eaters, wandering the lands in constant search of food.

Several spiketail young are playing, chasing each other in a game of tag, laughing in their excitement.

NARRATOR: This land was not without its dangers though.

A loud ROAR is heard, spooking the migrating heard into a panic.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: What was that?

SPIKETAIL MOTHER: Stay close, dear. Our leader will hold him back.

The leader of the group, wrinkled with age, heads back, standing defensively between his herd and the oncoming threat.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #2: What's going on?

SPIKETAIL MOTHER: Here it comes!

NARRATOR: The greatest danger in this time was the dreaded sharpteeth!

From behind a forest, a large T-Rex sharptooth breaks out. He's bluish/purplish in color. He roars again before barring his teeth.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: Sharptooth!

The sharptooth starts to advance to the leader.

SPIKETAIL LEADER: Come on! I"m ready for ya!

The sharptooth charges at the aged leader. He rams his head into the side of the old dinosaur, causing him to fall over with much force.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #2: Grandpa!

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: We have to help him!

The two young spiketails breakout from under their mother towards the leader.

SPIKETAIL MOTHER: Little ones, no! Come back here!"

The sharptooth starts to lower his head, opening his jaws to take a piece out of the leader, when the young spiketails come up to them.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: Leave our grandpa alone!

The sharptooth pauses for a second. Turning his glare, and growls at the two young before returning his attention to the old dinosaur in front of him.

SPIKETAIL MOTHER: Please, come back here little ones! I don't want to lose you too!

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #2: We have to do something!

The two young glance at each other, exchanging nods before charging forward. They ram the sharptooth's foot, bouncing off in the process. The massive beast pauses again, turning his head to look at the children. The two little ones take a step back in fear.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: Should we have done that?

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #2: I don't know. Right now, I'm not sure.

The sharptooth decides to sling his tail to brush the two young away. During this time, the old one gains back his composure, and rams into the sharptooth.

SPIKETAIL LEADER: Please, go back to your mother!

YOUNG SPIKETAIL: Grandpa, no!

SPIKETAIL LEADER: I said go!

The two young rush back to their mother while the leader of the herd rubs his front paw on the ground. He tries to rush the sharptooth, but he steps out of the way. Before the leader can recover, the sharptooth quickly turns around, and rams him over again. The old dinosaur groans in pain.

SPIKETAIL LEADER: Oh, I'm not as spry as I used to be!

The two young look on in terror.

YOUNG SPIKETAIL #1: No!

The sharptooth quickly brings down his jaws, biting the leader in the neck with force. A loud, deafening CRACK is heard, and two young scream.

NARRATOR: This is where our story begins. In this dangerous wilderness of prehistoric times, amply named the Mysterious Beyond!

This is my second LBT fanfic. It's basically a movie script for an idea I got about 6 months ago. I've been mussing over it for months now, so It's very well planned out. I'll probably be posting up parts to it weekly or every few days. Most of them will be shorter than PAST-O-RAMA episodes, but probably not this short! Right now, I"m planning on around 16 parts, so this is going to be pretty long.

Hope you enjoy it. DD

Computer and Electronics / I have a recording question
« on: July 17, 2011, 05:16:53 PM »
For something I'm planning, I was wanting to record the audio from other people who are talking on the GoF chatroom. The only problem is I can only get my own mic to record.

I'm using Audacity, and I can'[t figure out how to get it to record everyone else, and not just my mic. Is there some way to just make it record all the audio that's playing on my computer or something?

Thanks to anyone that has an answer ;)

The Fridge / My Fanfiction reading
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:39:07 AM »
Wasn't sure where I could post this really, so I threw it in the fridge. You can shoot me if you want :lol .

I'm mostly just writing this to see where I stand in my (foolish?) pledge to read and review every single Fanfiction entered into the first ever GoF Fanfiction Awards. I originally made that pledge, because I loved the idea of these awards so much, and I wanted to contribute as much as I could to ensure that this new section of awards goes well, so it can be continued for the years to come. Anyway, With three weeks left to still do this, here's an analysis of where I stand in that pledge.

I've copied all the entered fictions onto my computer, so I can see just how long or short these stories are, by seeing their length in KB of plain text. Here is what I have so far.

4157KB (4.05MB) of text in total right now is entered into the awards. Of course, that is bound to change, as more fictions are bound to be entered in the two weeks that Mumbling is away, but I need SOMEWHERE to work from!

341KB of that is my work/partially my work, so it doesn't count.

that leaves me with  3816KB.

665KB of that is stuff I've already read AND reviewed

272KB of that is stuff I've read fully, but haven't reviewed yet, either because I haven't gotten around to reviewing it, or the fiction is incomplete, and I'm still waiting for possibly more chapters before writing a review.

379KB is what of the three stories in my sig I have read so far.

That adds up to 1316KB out of 3816KB (34%) read, leaving me 2500KB left to read. Two HUGE chunks of that is Far Away Home and BOSC 2.

So, there you have it. I'll still TRY to stand by that pledge I made about a month or so back. Wish me luck, folks.

Silver Screen / Futurama
« on: June 21, 2011, 07:17:17 PM »
A new season of Futurama is starting in two days, so I just thought I'd start this topic now, to talk about these new episodes as they air.

Their premiering with two episodes on Thursday.

"Neutopia" - Looks...weird. The crew goes to a planet with a genderless monster. This monster is confused by what the crew calls "Gender wars" since he doesn't even know what a gender is. He'll put the crew through a bunch of test. It could be very funny, but I don't know yet. Looks like it's going to be a very dirty episode, like In A Gadda Da Leela was last year.

"Benderama" - I'm REALLY looking forward to this episode! The Professor has made a replicator that takes in any old useless matter, and makes 60% scale models of stuff. Bender used it to make copies of himself to do his work for him. Those two copies make their own copies, and so on and so forth. This is very dangerous to the crew, and the world, and more matter is consumed and turned into benders. Patton Oswalt is going to guest voice in this episode as well. I think this episode will be very exciting and funny!

Anyone else looking forward to the new season? I sure am! :DD

LBT Fanfiction / The Two Hunters
« on: June 09, 2011, 07:25:20 PM »
I've been feeling kind of weird today, so I decided to write something else, instead of working on the PAST-O-RAMA episode for tomorrow. Also, after seeing the OMFGBBQ mid-season finale episode of southpark, it kind of inspired me to write this as well. So here it is, a really short, but mostly dark LBT oneshot.

-------------------------------------------------------

The Two Hunters

It was a happy day in the Great Valley, unlike every other day in the lazy Valley; It was a very special day, for it was Chomper's 8th star day. His friends were all crowded around him, as he happily ate from a big leaf with various insects in it. Everyone had gotten bigger over the last couple of years, including Chomper, much to Cera's and Mr. Threehorn's displeasure. They both thought that Chomper was starting to get TOO big.

Everyone knew Chomper would have to leave soon, but no one talked about it. Really, no one WANTED to talk about it. Most of the residents of the Valley would be happy at his departure. There were still those that really didn't like his presence and company. His friends might not like it, but they would get over it. All except for one. The very dinosaur that first decided to raise Chomper, that unhappily let him leave the Valley the first time, that met him on an island and saved his life, and finally, helped him to be welcomed back into the valley. Chomper and Littlefoot were like brothers. Both of them were only children, so it wasn't that hard for them to see themselves as that.

On one particular night, the friendly sharptooth crawled up to the Longneck nest, and woke up the little apatosaurus nestled close to his grandparents.

"What is it?" The little longneck asked.

"Um, there's something I need to talk about. I think I need to leave."

"Leave? Why?"

"Well, I'm getting bigger, and little ground crawlers and buzzing flyers aren't filling me up like they used to."

Littlefoot looked his friend over. It was true, he wasn't looking very healthy at that point. He looked pretty malnourished. You could actually almost see his ribs under his skin. "You don't mean you have to start eating..." Littlefoot didn't want to finish that sentence.

"...meat. Yes, it's true."

The Little biter and the little leafeater said their good byes, and the sharptooth started to make his way to the hidden valley. As Chomper walked off, thoughts started racing through Littlefoot's mind. He didn't want to see him go, they were bothers after all. He loved the little biter. But...he also couldn't stay in the Great Valley. There was plenty for him to eat, yes, but Chomper wasn't about to start chowing down on his friends! A thought finally reached the little dinosaur's mind. He knew what he had to do.

quickly, he got up and raced towards Chomper, and they both walked out into the Mysterious Beyond together, never to return.

Many years later

An adult Spiketail was wandering around in the Mysterious Beyond. Somehow, he had lost track of his herd. He was worried, for he knew that the dreaded Redclaw prowled around this area. As he walked further, an immense beast broke out of some tress nearby. This sharptooth was not Redclaw, but a giant bluish/purplish  sharptooth. The beast lunged towards him, but the spiketail managed to slap him with his tail. As the sharptooth recovered, the spiketail saw a chance to run. He darted off. The sharptooth got up, and started chasing after his prey.

As he ran, he scampered right up to an adult Longneck. "Boy am I glad to see you! I need help! A Sharptooth is after me!" The Longneck heard this spiketails request, but he had a different plan in mind. With his mighty tail, he whipped the spiktail into a rockface. As the longneck stared down at the one he just whacked, the confused Spiketail spoke up. "What's going on here?". As the sharptooth walked in for the kill, the spiketail said one last word. "Why?".

Chomper was doing well today. He had just had a successful hunt, which his best friend and brother, Littlefoot, had helped him out on.

Now you might be thinking to yourself "What the **** is going on here!?" I'll tell you that it wasn't always like this. When Chomper and Littlefoot first made it into the Mysterious Beyond, Littlefoot tried to stay away from Chomper at his small meals. The first time he walked in on Chomper, when he was chowing down on a Threehorn hatchling, he was disgusted. He wanted to go back to the Great Valley, but the love for his brother kept him in the wild. Over the years, Littlefoot grew more and more desensitized to Chomper's eating and hunting habits. Until one fateful day, when the two met during one of Chomper's hunts. Littlefoot suddenly and without warning helped his friend out by luring a Redback into a corner he couldn't get out of.

"So, how is that Spiketail?" Littlefoot asked.

"It's great!" The sharptooh replied. Littlefoot turned to a tree to have his own snack while Chomper happily gobbled up his. Chomper was always well fed, thanks to the help of his friend. Most of the time, Chomper was able to get an easy kill whenever his prey stared flabbergasted at the longneck.

"If Chomper's happy, then I'm happy!" Littlefoot always thought to himself whenever an inkling of regret made it's way into his mind. The two hunters lived together happily to a ripe old age.

This is a neat little real-time 4X in space strategy game that very few people have even heard of.

You can pause the game and still give orders, so it's not like other rts's where  the winner is the one that can click the fastest. It's only single player though. It borrows some things from more deep strategy games, such as having to pay maintenance on every ship you own, having to try to keep your citizens happy, and handling diplomacy with other space empires.

One thing I find unique in this game is how it has it's own private economy. Every inhabited planet in the map generates money, and the private sector uses that money to build their own ships that you can't control. They build mostly transport and mining ships and bases, and go out in search of resources and places to trade goods. It's interesting because you don't just need prosperous planets to tax them for your own ships, but also so they can build their own private ships to keep your empire running more smoothly.

Anyone that plays strategy games should give it a try.

Also, someone is doing an AAR (After Action Report) of a game he has been slowly playing the last year or so. It's called "Emperor Fred Goes Postal", And it's a fantastic Evil Dictator trying to take over the universe and crush every creepy and crawly thing in sight story  :lol

General Land Before Time / Are the LBT dinosaurs cold-blooded
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:12:39 PM »
I was just wondering if, at least as far as the LBT universe is concerned, are the Dinosaurs cold-blooded or warm-blooded? I'd like to think that they are cold-blooded, but there is one thing in my mind that conflicts with that, the Cold Times. Wouldn't it be hard for cold-blooded creatures to survive during the Winter? I don't know the answer to that, maybe some one here does.

If the dinosaurs are indeed cold-blooded, that does help with some things. For example, it means Chomper has to eat much less meat (or buzzers/ground crawlers) to survive.

I know theirs a lot of scientific debate on whether they were cold or warm blooded. (at least, it was like that years ago, maybe they've found an answer since then?). I also know that LBT doesn't necessarily follow realistic science to a T, so this might be dismissed.

So, are they cold-blooded or warm-blooded? Or could it arguably go either way?

LBT Fanfiction / PAST-O-RAMA

I corrected the links before I realized an admin had used this topic as an example. Here is an example of a broken link: http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=13788&view=findpost&p=22078786
The problem is the link just goes to the OP of the thread, when it is supposed to direct to a specific post in that thread.

If your reading my fanfiction, I'd appreciate some feedback on what you think off it. I really want some feedback on how to make it better  ;)

Also, this is written in script format, made to resemble an actual TV series as closely I can with just text. If you came in here expecting a novel, too bad!

I've never written a fanfiction before. Actually, I don't usually write much for pleasure. I tend to write ok papers for school, but I never thought to just try it for fun.

This fanfiction features a single human that goes back in time to the world of LBT. Other than that slightly crazy addition, I/m trying to keep everything else true to LBT. Every "Chapter" is a episode script. That sounds kinda crazy, but it's pretty interesting to me, and I think it will make my fanfiction unique. Every episode is a separate story in and of itself, but there's an overarching storyline and character development. Also, the Professor, or any main character for that matter, won't necessarily play a role in each episode. And, like with most TV series, not every episode advances the overall plot.

Just some exposition. This takes place about 2 years after the events of the first television series. Ruby and Chomper are still in the Great Valley, But they aren't in the first episode since it's already so full. Having chomper meet the human complicates things, and I think it needs it's own episode to flesh the encounter out. Also, since the voice actor for Grandpa longneck is dead (RIP Kennith Mars :(), I thought it would be realistic to have the character already dead in this series. Bron and his herd have been forced to move into the Great Valley so he can become the new leader. Shorty is back too :DD . This already happened before the first episode, and it's explained more later in this TV series.

Here's a handy list of links to each episode, if you need help finding a specific one. Please note. With the new Zetaboards that this forum was migrated to, the only way to link to a post is to link to the post ONLY, so if you do use these links, you'll have to keep coming back to this list to find other episodes.

Gamers Zone / A computer game I made
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:27:36 AM »
This was a computer game I made about 2 years ago for my high school senior project. It's a simple arcady puzzle game where you have use a slingshot to try to shoot a ball into a hole.

Here's the link to the game: http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/96048-sling-ball

This game was made using Game Maker. I spent about 6 months working on it off and on. I showed it to a lot of students at my school while I was working on it. One in particular followed it almost from the beginning, and was inspired to learn how to program to work on his own games :DD .

I know it still has some bugs in it, but I'm not going to work on it anymore. I decided that after I turned it in, I would be done with it. It's still a fun little game though.

So, what do you think about it?

EDIT: Link got broken somehow, so fixed it. I think the Website's URL changed.

Hello, new to this board, so thought I'd introduce myself.

I found this forum when remembering and looking up good old lbt(the original and the ones with chomper in them). Surprised to see how long it lasted and it's untimely end :cry .

Other than lbt, I'm really into videogames. Nintendo games mostly, but also some computer strategy games such as age of empires, civilization, and tycoon/sim games.

Hope I can contribute something.
