"Going on an adventure with all my friends is so cool!"

Ali rejoiced as she walked next to Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Chomper and Ruby following in the two longnecks' wake as they broke out of a forest after an hour-long journey, climbing the Great Wall of the Great Valley, crossing some plains and balancing over a log crossing a ravine so deep that Ali could only fathom how little would be left of any of them if they slipped. They had been traversing a forest for a long while now but, finally, it seemed like they had found what they were looking for at last. A large mountain came into view but not just any mountain, no. It was no more and no less than the fabled Saurus Rock, a rock formation resembling a longneck which was the stuff many legends were made of. A lone longneck, called the Lone Dinosaur, had once saved the Great Valley from the meanest sharptooth ever to walk the earth - or so her friends had told her earlier in the morning while trying to persuade her to go on this adventure. Admittedly, it had been a lot of fun thus far, especially since a certain longneck hadn't gotten wind of their adventure...

*

"Where the hell is Ali?!"

Rhett had been combing through what felt like the entire Great Valley on this fine morning, only to realize that neither the girl he loved more than his own tail nor her obnoxious friends were anywhere to be seen. Had they ditched him? Him, the great Rhett, scarer of the sharpteeth?

"How dare they do this to me!?" he lamented but, ultimately, there was little he could do but to keep on searching in the faint hope that he'd happen to stumble across them by accident...

*

"An entire day without Rhett, I feel so happy!"

Ever since arriving at the Great Valley for their annual visit, the beige-coloured longneck had been following her around, forcing his way into their games and just spoiling any opportunity to be alone with Littlefoot. There was something she really wanted to tell the boy, something that she could only share with him if they were entirely alone, but, thus far, Rhett had always been around, like an obnoxious sharpbeak waiting for a weak dinosaur to die at last. It was truly annoying to say the least and Ali was by far not the only one who shared that opinion. The gang had had to resolve to leading her on a surprise adventure, getting up before sunrise just to make sure that Rhett wouldn't be able to tag along, spoiling their rare time together again.

Rhett was probably the type of dinosaur she would never want to befriend but Ali had always been alone without any friends in her herd so she had readily accepted Rhett as her friend back when he joined the herd and started playing with her, only realizing much later what a prick he could be at times. He wasn't a friend anymore in her opinion, more like someone to pass time with out of sheer boredom, someone who was pale compared to the awesome group of friends who she was travelling with right now.

Now, as she stood in front Saurus Rock, intrigued by its history and amazed by its unique shape and the ring of teeth (was one of them actually a real Sharptooth tooth?!), she suddenly felt extremely appreciative.

"Thanks for taking me on this surprise adventure without Rhett, it's the best you could have done! Thank you so much, guys!"

Ruby smiled at the longneck's words and gave a nod as if to say 'you're welcome'.  But then she frowned a bit at her words. Without Rhett... I thought he learned his lesson the last time... has he not had enough time to learn his lesson?

Nonetheless she kept her misgivings to herself. "It is the least that we could do, Ali!  Surprise adventures are the best surprises!"

It was a nice, beautiful morning. Mama Swimmer knew already it was going to be a perfectly normal day. Nope, nothing at all eventful or noteworthy was going to happen today, no siree. That was exactly how she liked her days to be; uneventful and with no danger anywhere. She did notice that Ducky and Spike weren't at the nest, which in itself that was actually pretty normal. Annoying, but normal. Those darned kids, always running off on their own. She gave an exasperated sigh.

Yet as the day carried on, with still no sign of Ducky or Spike, Mama Swimmer began to worry and fret. What if the kids had run into a Sharptooth? Or worse, Mr. Threehorn. With any luck it was neither of those terrible things, and she was simply worrying too much. But... what if she wasn't? What if the kids really had run into some sort of danger? She needed to find them and make sure they were okay. Now... where to look? They could be anywhere. Anywhere except the Great Valley, it seemed. She searched high and low. There was no sign of them. Mama had woken up fairly early that morning as it was, and Ducky and Spike had been gone even then. Just how early had the kids headed out anyway? If Mama didn't know better, it was almost as if the kids had deliberately headed out early to avoid detection for some reason...

...in fact, that was starting to seem pretty plausible. But if so, why?

Her search through the Great Valley showed that not only were Ducky and Spike nowhere to be seen, but so were Littlefoot and Cera and the others. So the entire Gang had headed out then. Just what were those darned kids up to this time? She was just about to give up her Great Valley search, and was about to round up the other adults to go looking outside the valley, even if she had no idea where they would even begin looking. That's when she happened to spot Rhett, all by himself and appearing particularly displeased about something. Already she had a feeling Rhett was just as clueless as she was regarding the Gang's whereabouts. But she might as well ask anyway. She approached Rhett.

"Hello there. Have you seen the other kids around by any chance?"

Petrie was thrilled that this adventure was working - at least so far. He was with seven of his best friends and they'd managed to give their non-friend the slip back in the valley. What more could he ask for?

"Me happy we able to ditch Rhett! Adventuring fun with whole gang. But Petrie think adventures be funner when more friends come along!"

---

These adventures sure are dangerous...but they are fun. And there is often yummy stuff to eat...

Spike wished he could tell his friends how happy it made him to be enjoying this time together - without Rhett barging in.

Even if I can't tell them how I feel I think they'll understand how I feel. Great. Now I'm starting to think like Ruby.

crunch

Ergh stick! Treestars are delicious...but sticks aren't

Spike looked up at Saurus Rock, remembering how he'd nearly been impaled when they came to rescue "those crazy twins." He hoped that this day wouldn't be eventful like that day. Hopefully Saurus Rock wouldn't be damaged again.

---

Petrie looked around at the other seven.

Me think me know what make Spike happy today!

He then saw Ali standing in front of Saurus Rock.

"Hey Ali! What you think of Saurus Rock? You think Littlefoot tell truth about a Lone Dinosaur?"

Ducky is usually the most optimistic and happiest of the Gang. Whenever an opportunity for adventure with her friends presents itself, she would always be the first one to oblige. Her pure heart and playful demeanor always lightens up the mood whenever the situation would turn tense or sad. Everyone always appreciates her presence, especially the six other friends she has surrounded herself with. This time however, Ali is accompanying them on their adventure too. She and the Gang woke up as early as they could in order to sneak by Rhett undetected. Truth be told, as tolerable as Ducky was, even she couldn't handle the annoying, brash and arrogant attitude that seemingly radiates from the tan colored longneck all the time. This couldn't be more true for the strong-willed orange threehorn named Cera, who was the first to awaken from her slumber in the morning to get everyone ready for the journey to Saurus Rock. Before this day, she was hesitant to come with her other friends as she thought there was no point at looking at a longneck rock all day. The hate she had for Rhett though made up her mind immediately. Despite her similar demeanor to Rhett at times, she is honest, caring, and considerate of others deep down. Without Rhett interfering with their plans, this day would turn out to be a great one, even if it wasn't perfect.

Even if I didn't really want to go on a long walk to Saurus Rock again, it is much better than staying behind with that particular flathead. In my opinion, even a Sharptooth is little of a threat compared to him!

I agree, Cera! It is so nice again to finally go on an adventure without him sharing his fake stories. I really don't like him, oh no, no, no!

Quote from: Petrie
"Hey Ali! What you think of Saurus Rock? You think Littlefoot tell truth about a Lone Dinosaur?"

"It is true!" said Littlefoot. "You believe me, don't you, Ali?" He then turned to the rest of his friends. "And you were there with me. Well, most of you. You saw the Lone Dinosaur too. He and Grandpa fought those Sharpteeth!" Deep down, however, Littlefoot knew the same thing the others knew. They didn't know for absolute certain that Doc was in fact the Lone Dinosaur. If the Lone Dinosaur himself was even real. It had just been one of Grandpa's many nighttime stories. Still, Littlefoot had always liked to think that Doc and the Lone Dinosaur were one and the same. No-one could prove they weren't, after all.

"Come. I have to show you this." He spoke to Ali, Chomper, and Ruby in particular, as they hadn't been around for the original Saurus Rock adventure. "Look, up there," he said, guiding the others closer to the Saurus Rock monument. "Those teeth around the neck there. You can see one that's smaller and brighter than the others. That's an actual tooth from one of the Sharpteeth my granddad and Doc fought. After the Sharpteeth were defeated, we put the tooth up there to replace the one that fell."

He gave Ali, Chomper, and Ruby the rest of the story. The reason they'd come to Saurus Rock the first time was because they were on the hunt for Cera's niece and nephew who'd gone missing. They found Dinah and Dana tumbling and frolicking about atop the monument. Although they'd gotten the twins to safety, it was the catalyst for one of the monument's teeth falling out.

Littlefoot refrained from referring to the twins as "annoying," as he hadn't wanted to offend Cera. One glance at the threehorn rolling her eyes, however, told him that it most likely wasn't something she would have taken offense at.

Littlefoot cautioned the others against climbing onto Saurus Rock, lest they accidentally knock out one of the teeth and the Great Valley would be subject to a repeat of all the horrible bad luck that occurred last time. He winced at the thought. Even though his grandfather had reassured him there was no such thing as bad luck, he reasoned that there was no harm in being careful, just in case...

Ruby nodded politely as she listened to Littlefoot's tale. If the story had come from anyone else, and if it had not had collaboration by the rest of the gang, then it would have been quite unbelievable. But as she had come to appreciate in the last year, with this gang of seven anything was possible.  Though one part of the story did give her pause.

"So losing the tooth gave the valley bad luck?  In that case we need to be sure to not press our luck!"

She then turned to Chomper before putting on a compassionate expression upon remembering his fears during the tooth crisis.  She wanted to head those concerns off at the pass. "Don't worry, Chomper. Losing teeth is part of life and I am sure it will not give you bad luck." She then pointed up at Saurus Rock, "We just need to make sure that rock does not lose its teeth."

"Yes," said Littlefoot. "So... um... let's not get too close, then. The teeth look sturdy, but last time we accidentally knocked one of them out pretty easily!" To his relief, the others seemed eager enough to comply with his request. Then again, Dinah and Dana were not with them, so surely nothing would go wrong. Surely there was nothing to worry about?

The rest of the Gang's morning carried on in an uneventful yet peaceful manner. Still no sign of Rhett, thank goodness for that. Just Littlefoot and his pals, hanging out at the base of Saurus Rock and enjoying life. Things had been understandably stressful the last time they'd visited this place. But now, they were able to appreciate that it was a really lovely area.

Things became less lovely later on. Afternoon arrived, and with it came a most unfortunate storm. So unfortunate, in fact, that lighting struck the top of Saurus Rock, causing one of the teeth to fall off, which nearly squished poor Chomper!

The Gang was shocked by the sudden twist in events and immediately jumped back at the brief shockwave that permeated the surrounding area. After they regained their senses and surveyed the aftermath, almost all of them were filled with feelings of apprehension and dread. Not only has one of the teeth that made up the necklace of Saurus Rock fell upon impact of the lightning strike, but something else...no, someone was missing too.

”Uh, guys? I hate to break it to everyone here, but where’s...”

”CHOMPER!” Everyone said in unison.
