Wow.  I got a new 22 inch widescreen monitor in the beginning of 2008 and it has a maximum resolution of 1680X1050.  I hate that resolution cuz everything looks squished, but this old 1993 viewsonic monitor can go up to a whopping 2048X1536! :wow Just take a look at GOF at this resolution.  The background tiles 4 times!

Take a look at how many images I can have showing on my photobucket account without scrolling!

Just take a look at this old beater!  It's such a hunk of junk and it weighs like 150 pounds! :wow

It's really sad this old piece of crap monitor can beat my new $300 monitor.  Makes me wanna return it. <_<

Yep, CRT monitors can always outperform digital monitors for raw resolution unless you're using connections beyond dual-DVI to a resolution beyond consumer-high-definition such as 2160p or crazy stuff like that.

You can outperform CRT with digital monitors but it takes some pretty mean firepower on the video card (and typically multiple video cards)!

I bet the colors don't look that good. ;)  Main difference between the digital and CRT monitors is how well the colors come through.

The colors are surprisingly close to my new monitor.  I can't tell a difference unless I really look closely.  I can't wait to watch an LBT movie on it.  ALL of my monitors besides my nice new 22 inch monitor are 17 inches or under.  This one's 19, but it looks a lot bigger.

The issue with so many LCD monitors (except the absolute most expensive) is that the image fades depending on the angle you look at them.  This is very, very bad for graphics producers and a large number of such people still prefer CRTs because they are a budget solution to high-quality images.  CRT monitors can look great if you have a decent one (which are cheap nowadays) and LCD monitors suffer from colour distortion and image degradation unless you look at them head-on.  With large LCD monitors (22" and larger) getting the entire screen in your field of vision is nearly impossible so the edges will appear distorted all of the time.  Higher-end LCD TVs don't have this problem but they're a little different beast.

For any enegery concious consumer, LCD's use much less energy to run....if that at all matters.

Does one tend to last longer then the other, between lcd and crt?

I'm sure CRT monitors last longer.  I mean, you can find broken flat panel monitors all the time, however you can see old junkie monitors from 1993 that still work fine.

We still have crt's for computer repair around.  Color is a bit off but they still work.
