I've been looking through my game collection, and I've found that there are quite a few titles that were excellent games that were practically made to be continued, and yet have no sequels. So I thought I'd post them here.
Star Wars: TIE Fighter. This game was my very first experience with video games, and I'll never forget it. The amazing space-sim gameplay is still unparalleled today, and it holds the distinctive title of being one of the first games in which you play as the villain. Even Gamespot and IGN agree it's one of the best games of all time. So where's the sequel? (This goes for the X-wing series as well)
Star Trek: Bridge Commander. This game, along with Elite Force 1 and 2, proved to the world that Star Trek could be made into a playable, fun game. The game had so much promise, and yet ended so abruptly. Sequel? (Star Trek Online may have a combat system very similar to this game)
Kingdom Hearts 2. I'm still waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3. This series is just too cool to end with 2.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series. Yeah, Rogue Squadron 3 sucked, but the series was still pretty awesome. I'm still holding out hope that there will be a Rogue Squadron 4 someday.
So, what games do you think should have sequels?
-
I believe Star Wars Tie Fighter has gotten many sequels and it is in fact , a sequel itself.
Jurassic Park Trespasser: it was the first game to introduce many features that have become common in gaming and while it wasn't very successful it was good enough for a sequel, they could just make it like Half Life 2 except with dinosaurs.
Mirror's Edge: I actually enjoyed Mirror's Edge and it deserves a Mirror's Edge 2.
Star Wars Battlefront: we need Star Wars Battlefront III, Renegade sqaudron just felt like a spin off, maybe Elite Squadron will be the one.
-
Star Wars TIE fighter had a couple expansion packs, but no other X-wing franchise games continued it's storyline, and besides, there hasn't even been an X-wing or TIE fighter game in over 10 years.
-
Shadowrun for XBOX 360 and PC is such a fun game, but the only problem with it is there is no campaign to it. It's only multiplayer, but then again the game was specifically made for such. If there were to be a sequel or even an expansion pack, it would get more people to play it again.
-
yeah but the Rogue Squadron games are basically 3D,less RPGish verisons of the X Wing/ Tie Fighter games and speaking of Star Wars I finished reading Dark Force Rising today(that novel ruled).
-
Rogue Squadron was good, but it's no X-wing or TIE fighter. It wasn't much of a sim, but more of an arcade shooter. They had no depth compared to TIE fighter.
On a side note, Dark Force Rising was really cool. Zahn always maintains a masterful command over his works, especially when they are Star Wars novels. He, Stackpole, and Luceno are the awesome triad of Star Wars authors.

Found some news on X-wing and TIE fighter:
LucasArts may have another classic revival up its sleeves. G4 reports that in an interview with company president Daniel Rodriguez, the question came up of a return of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter series. "We don't have any announcements now, but stay tuned," said Rodriguez. "We will soon."
-
The sequel I'd want most is a Klonoa 3.
-
Eternal Darkness 2. The original tied up most of the loose ends, except for where the heck yellow colored magicks come from. We have explanations for purple, red, green, and blue magicks, but throughout the game, there are mysterious yellow magicks and effects outside of the plans of the both the villains and heroes.
That needs an explanation.
-
Darkstone, a VERY cool French developed 1999 fantasy RPG needs a sequel.
-
Kid Icarus could use a sequel, though he did appear in Brawl.
-
My siblings and I wanted a sequel to Legend of Dragoon, but the game magazines made it clear that the game's makers have no intention of making a sequel...
-
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. This game was such a breath of fresh air in terms of MK adventure games. MK Sub-Zero was fun but flawed, and Special Forces......... well........ don't get me started on that. MKSM was such an amazing game, but the ending left me bewildered. It left it open for a sequel, but no such thing has been developed yet.

I'd like to see a sequel to the "Streets of Rage" series. The third and final game ended with Mr. X still at large, the Chief of Police still M.I.A. and players empty-handed <_<.
-
star wars bounty hunter. i loved the game it was extremely good detail for a 3rd person shooter
and i also want to see another star wars republic commando, i've heard rumors of a second one called star wars republic commando order 66
-
I would really wanna see a sequel to "The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon". Of course, then they would have to think up of another villain for the heroes to face. :p
But then again, it's all for the money. :lol
-
Okay, here's one I would like. A sequel to Super Mario RPG, and I'm talking about a TRUE sequel. None of that Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi stuff. I want something that brings back the 5 characters, has awesome music, timed hits, impossibly sought after items and a hidden boss.
Give me that, and I'll be happy. :)
-
Excalibur, there will likely be a sequel made to dawn of the Dragon, the only question is when..
-
.hack needs another chain of sequels. Some of the most fun RPGs I have ever played. :p
-
Dead Space (I mean one for the 360 and not just for the Wii)
-
Darkstone, a VERY cool French developed 1999 fantasy RPG needs a sequel.
OMG! You've played that too! I agree that it so~ needs a sequel! :DD
Also, Knights of the Old Republic could really use another sequel.

I really want to see that too since I am a huge fan of the Golden Axe and Streets Of Rage games, let's hope if there's ever a Streets Of Rage 3D, that its transition won't be a bad one.

Animals of Farthting Wood (PC)

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri!
Boy that for once was a strategy game that really had an excellent degree of diplomatic possibilities (e.g. if you had an ally in a war against another faction you could actually tell him where you would attack and where you would like him or her to attack and he or she would do it if he or she said she would). He or she too could make suggestions about the strategy.
In many more ways this game was far superior to most games of the genre and I consider it better than any game of the civilization series that I have played.
Unfortunately it seems that many found this excellent game too complex so it's commercial success was not as good as they had hoped making the chance for a sequel rather slim :(
It's a pity really, I would have loved a sequel to the game with the qualities of the original game and additionally the option to play with more than seven factions and with a tactical level to complement the awesome strategic level.

Oh my god yes! I was so mad when there wasn't a sequel for the N64 or Gamecube but maybe after placing it as a downloadable for the Wii it will spark the creation of a true sequel. Long live Mallow and Geno!
-
I would want to see the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess have a sequel. I think this was the best Zelda game ever and I want to know more about what happens with Midna and Link
-
I completely approve of Super Mario RPG! :D
This might be an odd pick, but how about Blast Corps (http://www.videogameobsession.com/videogame/n64boxes/N64-BlastCorps.jpg)? A driving/action/puzzle game on the N64 which I thought was very innovative, especially for 1996!
A screenshot:

All I can think about is what a game like this could be like with local/online multiplayer, a level editor, bigger, more complex levels/puzzles, a physics engine, etc. etc. in 2009 or later. +1 for a Blast Corps sequel!
-
Also, Knights of the Old Republic could really use another sequel.
Bioware's basically considered their new MMO the sequel to KOTOR 2.
-
Eternal Darkness
Dead Space
Hotel Dusk
Obscure II (The ending practically begs for the series to continue)
-
I would want to see the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess have a sequel. I think this was the best Zelda game ever and I want to know more about what happens with Midna and Link
Twilight Princess wasn't the best Zelda game, Ocrina Of Time was but I guess that's based on opinion, anyhow LOZ:Twilight Princess does deserve a sequel.
-
Steel Battalion 2, please.
-
Ooh! How about the 360 game Chrome Hounds!
-
Ooh! How about the 360 game Chrome Hounds!
YES! This! Make me some more mecha games
-
I would like to see another Lord of the Rings: Conquest game. I've never played it, but i have heard from alot of people that the game "Sucked". However, i would atleast like to see another game like this with all the cool stuff instead of all the cool stuff going to the PS3 and Xbox whatever you call it while the people that play on the PC get nothing. Besides, i've been wanting to play as Gothmog for a long time, now i cant because i cant afford a stupid PS3/Xbox which-a-mah-call-it! :(
Other then that, i would love to see a sequel to Legends of Dragoon.
-
I'd like to see another GREAT Golden Axe game but the chances are slim since Golden Axe Beast Rider almost single-handedly ruined the series.
-
Jurassic Park: Trespasser is in serious need of a sequel. I couldn't even imagine how awesome it would be with today's technology and the same super talented team.
-

Hmm... While I do agree that SMRPG is the best Mario RPG game still, I did enjoy all the others. And they all have timed hits. Music of course is a matter of taste. All the games have a lot of humour in them... I don't know, I can't help but feel SMRPG already has a lot of sequels. not to say I would say no to a new RPG game from the same team, far from it.
I'd like to see a sequel to the "Streets of Rage" series. The third and final game ended with Mr. X still at large, the Chief of Police still M.I.A. and players empty-handed <_<.
Simply not true. The games does end halfway if you play on the easy setting, but play on normal or higher difficulty and you get to see the whole game. I expect you only tried easy. I won't give any spoilers, but trust me, al your questions are answered if you play the full game. There are multiple endings too. Again, having said that, I would love a sequel.
As to my own suggestion, it would have to be Jetforce Gemini for the N64. One of Rare's best titles, an absolute gem of a game. Awesome story, great characters, amazing gameplay, some really original weaponry and a just brilliant mix of cute Nintendo graphics and brutal slaughter. The fact that you could collect the heads of the cute, fluffy tribals as well as the heads of Mizar's Soldier drones was icing on the cake. Alas, with Rare going to Microsoft I have lost all hope of a sequel to this game.
-
If this were a few years ago, I would have said a new Contra that was like the classic style; but of course, low and behold, we got Contra 4 and the new Wiiware game.
Maybe a sequel to Gunstar Heroes. That was a fun game. Also, a new Double Dragon game would be sick. Oh, and I'd like to see another Ghouls n' Ghosts.
-

my point exactly Jurassic Park:Trespasser was a game ahead of its time, minus the glitches and bugs, but without that game we wouldn't have pyshics engines in games today as well as good AI so Trespasser really deserves a sequel.
-
I'd be looking forward to more Klonoa games, the next Mario Kart, and maybe a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VIII.
-
I would really like to play sequels of:
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Mario Power Tennis
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Party 8
Captain Rainbow
Final Fantasy IX & X (same characters, similar story and gameplay, that would be very nice! Yeah, they released a sequel to Final Fantasy X, "Final Fantasy X-2", but it's much worse than the great original :( )
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games
And Wario & Waluigi should have their own games! :D

Hmmm Kotor 2?
Halo ?
-
Hmmm Kotor 2?
Halo ?
Well Star Wars The Old Republic is considered by many to be a sequel to KOTOR 2, and with Halo Reach I think it's safe to say Halo has enough sequels.
I would love to see a sequel, if not a remake of Killer Instinct. It is one of my favorite fighters and I'm so bummed it hasn't been continued since the N64. I would love it if the rumored port to XBOX Live Arcade came true.
-
Ah, Killer Instinct! A favorite from my retro gaming days, and still a game I like a lot :yes.

Many of us wish an expansion of more halo and many are actually unhappy with TOR and refuse to play it.

ULTRA COOOOOOMBO!
We need to go back to 2d fighters. All these 3d fancy-pants ones are just terrible.
as for continuing the topic... I for one would like to see a Battlezone 3. 2 is still (barely) active, and has some of the best mods of any game in existence.
-
Isn't Battlezone 3d?
-
Isn't Battlezone 3d?
Heh, whoops. I guess I didn't word that right.
I meant that fighting games should be 2d. Battlezone is indeed 3d, and a different kind of genre altogether. I was referring to the topic, games in need of sequels, when I mentioned Battlezone 2. Cause I think it was awesome :lol
-
We need to go back to 2d fighters. All these 3d fancy-pants ones are just terrible.
I whole heartedly agree! Games like Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the list goes on and on and on. Those are the games that truly define fighting games. Now don't get me wrong, there are great 3D fighters out there, like Soul Calibur 4, Tekken 6, and Dead or Alive 4, but the 2D games really perfect the fighting system.
In terms of fighters, I would love for the next Mortal Kombat game to have a 2D feel, meaning no more side steps allowed! Graphic wise, either do 3D but keep the 2D feel like Street Fighter 4, or go to Hi-Res illustrations like Guilty Gear or KOF. Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was kind of a let down for me because they could have done a truly great crossover with a different franchise like Street Fighter, but instead Midway brought super heroes? Lame.

Star Ocean looks pretty cool
