Title: Beasts of the American West
Post by: F-14 Ace on March 04, 2006, 03:01:26 PM
Here is my revised animal RPG.  I will be an American bison or buffalo named Buff and a moose who's name I haven't thought of yet.  Anyone who joins in can just use any animal found in the area of the American West.  Humans are fine too.  I may have a human character too.  This takes place in 1868 North Dekota.  The plot might later move to another location as the characters may decide to go somewhere else.  Feel free to join in and just have fun.  First, just let me know who your character will be.

I will be Greycliff, a shewed, clever and dangerous wolf.  He's 27 in dog years.

It was hot and dry on the prairie.  The it was early September and the rains wouldn't be arriving for another few weeks.  Buff, a young buffalo, was walking toward a group of trees where he always went to get out of the hot sun.  After spending all day eating grass, he was tired and just wanted to rest.

Greycliff is crouched in the shrubs, waiting to ambush him.

As the wolves prepared for their attack, a bull moose stumbled upon them at that very moment.
He said, "Uh, oh.  What are you doing here?"

Greycliff turns around and snarls at the moose, exposing his teeth.

"RRRRRRRGH!" growls Greycliff as he curls his lip and clamps his jaws around Buff's neck.

Buff throws him off and said, "Oh, yopu've done it now!  You just messed with the wrong buffalo!"
He butted the wolf with his head sending him 10into the air.

Buff yelled, "I didn't hit you that herd.  If you come at me again, you won't be getting back up!  Get out of here before I change my mind and kill you anyway!"
Just then, the moose came over and said, "Still at it, are you?  I told you to get lost!  You can't take both of us!"

(Lets assume that all the animals can talk to each other.  Wolves included.)

"Stay the f*** out of this." yells Greycliff as he lunges for the moose and sinks his teeth into the moose's leg.

Just then, another buffalo arrived.
He asked, "What is going on here?"
Buff said, "This wolf tried to kill me!"
The other buffalo said, "He did, did he?  Listen, you mangy mutt, nobody tries to hurt my brother!  nd let that moose go!"

Buff asked, "Are you alright?"
The moose replied, "Yeah, I guess.  My leg is messed up."
Buff's brother said, "I've seen worse.  It will get better.  Not as bad is it looks.  Buff, why don't you look after him until he gets better.  I have to get back to the herd."
Buff said, "Alright, Rhen.  See you later."
The moose said, "I'm Myles, by the way."
Buff said, "My name is Buff.  My brother will probably bring the herd closer to here in case that wolf comes back with some of his buddies.  You'll be safe with me.  Come on."
He turned and walked towards the grove of trees.

Meanwhile, Greycliff is lieing next to a freshwater spring.  He notices a rabbit getting a drink.  The wolf slowly gets up, keeping a close eye on his target.  At the right moment he pounces, he clamps his teeth round the rabbit's neck and bites its head off.  Then he feasts on the body.  "Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits.  I'm sick of eating *** damn rabbits!"

A cougar emerged from behind a rock and said, "Alright, but I sugest taking out his older brother first.  That buffalo has also been a thorn in my paw.  We'll get him tomorrow."

(Cool, I'm watching the same thing about the Titanic.  I was playing Battlefront again, shooting at Gungans pretending that they were Jar Jar Binks.)

To avoid any any more attacks from the wolf, Buff's herd decide to move Northwest, into the Montana, Idaho area.  Greycliff and the Cougar arrive too late.  Greycliff starts snifing the area.  "They went this way." he says as he sprints Northwest.

(Now I'm watching Modern Marvels, one about Hurricane Katrina.)

Rhen said, "We'll be pretty safe from wolves here.  There are not many around these parts anymore.  The humans have driven them away.  Besides, those trouble makers back there wouldn't follow us all this way."
Myles said, "Look at the mountians.  We didn't have these back where we came from.  And look at all the trees."

Meanwhile, Greycliff and the Cougar are hiding inside a deep cavern in the Tobacco Root mountains.  A few days ahead of Buff's herd.  "I have a feeling they will be coming through this pass in a few days.  When we see the herd we'll ambush them."

THe cougar said, "Surely you don't intend to attack a whole buffalo herd.  Even a small one.  I say we ambush his brother first.  Rhen scouts ahead of the alone so noby lse will be around.  He is the herd's leader.  He also probably thinks that there ane none of us here.  My name is Colgar, by the way.  You won't have to live off rabbits any longer.  Here he comes now.  Lets go."

(Perhaps we should try to keep violence from getting too far out of hand.  I don't think the mods care much for extreme violence.)

Colgar said, "Surprise, buffalo!"
He dug his claws into Rhen's side.

After several hours, Rhen didn't come back and Buff was starting to worry.
He said, "Come on, Myles.  He has been gone way too long to have gotten lost.  I'm going to go look for him."

Buff slammed him against a rock.
Myles jumped into the air and Colgar lost his grip.
The moose said, "Lets face it, you suck!"
He charged at the cougar but he jumped out of the way.
Buff charged at him and smacked him against the rock.
"You son of a bi***!" he shouted. Colgar jumped on his back and started scratching him with his claws.  Myles smacked the cougar with his antlers.

(nobody is going to die here or anything.  Otherwise, this RPG would end real quick.  No more good guys die in this part and if any bad guys die, it would suck too.  The characters can get really messed up, though.  Please don't take so long to post.  I've been waithing all day. :cry2 :p  )

Buff shouted, "No!  You're lying!"
Colgar replied, "Don't worry, you will be joining him shortly.  Myles rammed him with his antlers and Colgar screamed in pain.  One of his eyes had been gouged out.  Buff rammed Greycliff, oneof his horns leaving a gash in the wolf's side.
Colgar said, "I've had it with yoe, moose!  You haven't seen the last of me!  Greycliff, that buffalo is injured.  We can retreat for now.  He'll die soon anyway with those injuries."
The two ran off.
Buff discovered th body of his brother.  Myles let him griev for a time and said, "Buff, we have to get you some help."
It was starting to get dark.  Myles helped Buff until they arrived near a two story house.
Myles said, "I have heard about humans sometimes heping animals.  That looks like your only chance."

(earlier, I mentioned that there would probably be a human character.  Perhaps one that would take pity on Buff and Myles.  Could you do the role of the human too?)

The house is just outside the Tobacco Root mountains.  There is a small garden full of corn stalks, golden wheat and other vegtables and there is a barn with a horse pasture.  There is a woman pulling weeds out of the tomato patch when Buff collapses extremly close to the garden.  The woman notices the young buffalo laying unconsious in the field.  "Oh, my lord." she says as she stops pulling weeds and tends to the wounded bison.

(sorry it took me so long.  I was finishing Ace Combat 5.)
Although animals were not suposed to talk to humans (they had the ability to but chose not to.  Not even when they were attached to the person) Buff decided he didn't care.  He had many questions about humans.
He said, "Thanks for helping me.  Do you have a family here?"
The woman got a shocked lok on her face as if she had never seen a talking animal before.  (Duh! :D )

Buff said, "Calm down.  I mean you no harm.  I was attached by a cougar and a wolf.  They killed my brother."
Tears were starting to gather in his eyes.
He continued, "I will get them if it is the last thing I ever do.  If I die, they will die with me.  He was the only true family I had left.  No, all I have is my friend, Myles.  He is the moose out side.  So, are you the only human here?"

"There are some injured animals that came down from the mountain.  There's a wolf and mountain lion chasing after them, can you stay up and watch them over the night?"

"Just let me finish me ale and get me shotgun." he says he goes back inside.

"You two can sleep in the barn until the little one recovers.  Semias will watch over you for the night to make sure those nasty creatures don't bother you lads." Ailis says as Semius comes out with a 12-gauge, break-action shotgun.

Just then, thunder rumbled in the distance.

Back in the barn, Myles said, "Sounds like rain.  If it rains, it will wash away our scent and those monsters won't be able to sniff us out."

Colgar said, "By the way, it hasn't been months.  It was only three weeks since our little fight."

Manwhile, down in the valley, Buff and Myles were taking shelter in the forest.  The weather had gotten bitter cold and it was beginning to snow.  Myles had lost his antlers (as moose do in the winter).
Myles said, "I hate winter.  There just is too little food."
Buff replied, "Yeah.  Hey, look over there."
Myles looked to see a human boy all alone.  He looked like he was about 12 years old.
Buff asked Myles, "What do you think he is doing here all alone?  He must be freezing."
The boy huddled up under a tree when Buff came over.

Basically, a buffalo herd and a moose from Kansas migrates to Montana in the 1860s to avoid being attacked by a wolf named Greycliff.  The wolf meets a cougar and they go after the herd, after the leader of the herd dies, a younger buffalo named Buff and the moose (named Myles) leave the herd to look for the lost leader.  They are ambushed by Greycliff and the cougar (Named Colgar) and sustain serious injury.  They get help from an Irish couple and go on their way.  Menawhile, Colgar helps Greycliff get a new pack and they ambush a herd of dear.  One of them escapes.  Meanwhile, Buff and Myles come across this cabin in the woods and meet a boy named Tom.  They eventually meet the dear that escaped and they are attacked again by the wolf pack.

(Suggestion: A hare would be more likley to appear in Montana than a badger.)

Colgar ran at Buff and lept at him.  Buff became enraged and gored the cougar with his horns  He pinned Colgar against a tree.  The cougar screamed in agony as he hung from the bison's horn.  The horn hadn't damaged any organs but was extremely painful none the less.
Buff was about to finish Colgar off but he just couldn't bring himself to do it.
He tossed the injured cougar aside and said, "GET OUT OF HERE NOW!"
Colgar limped out of site.  The rest of the pack retreated.
Buff walked over to Tom and said, "Thanks.  We would probably be wolf chow if you hadn't gotten help."
Meanwhile, Colgar was licking his injuries when he noticed Greycliff.

Morgan, the hare, sniffed around.  She could sense predators nearby.  Her instinct told her to freeze until she could locate it.  Twitching her ears around, she could hear huffing to her left, but it wasn't of a carnivore.  A buffalo.  She saw a cougar limp away, but there could be others, so why was the buffalo so collected and not trying to leave the area?

Maybe there was more to this herbivore than met the eye.  Crouching low, Morgan, inched towards the buffalo, if for nothing else, to see where the scent of the cougar came from so that she avoided that direction.

The buffalo answered, "It is a lot harder to actually go through with it than it sounds.  Sure, a meat eater like them has to do it every day but someone like me...  I just couldn't do it.  Hopefully, he learned a lesson from this."
Blaze asked, "Are they gone?"

Morgan edged closer as the bison continued to speak.  Obviously this wasn't the first attack like this nor would it be the last.

"Excuse me sir, where did the cougar go?" asked Morgan, making her presence known.  "Last thing I want to do is follow the one who would eat me."  She looked up at the side of the bison--a grand fellow he was, truthful probably.  Then she saw the wolf.  She was about to bolt, but changed her mind just as quickly.  If it was hungy it would eaten the bison before she had even come close to these two.  No, the wolf wasn't a danger...for now.

ooc:  Time to set some ground rules here now that you have a new player who has very different rules on how role plays work.

Quote
Myles, Buff and Morgan go into the cellar, his Dad stays with them, keeping his gun pointed at the cellar door.

1.) Big, fat no-no.  I'll take care of Morgan, and you take care of your characters.  I'll decide if Morgan accepts and goes into the cellar.

2.) Wait up.  I can't get on as often as you two can.  Maybe one reply per person in a rotating fashion so that no character gets left behind.

3.) Why one sentence replies?  Sure doesn't leave the other much to work with.  I always try to write at least a good paragraph because I can't do much with one sentence replies.

That's all I have....those two alone will see many of these go a long way. :)

Morgan looked at the bison.  "Join you?  Join you in what?  Where are you going?"  She was confused.  This was a wandering creature for sure, but constant migration wasn't something hares were naturally accustomed to doing.  After all, these grasslands were all she ever knew, but her leverets had gone off on their own to find their own places to call home, and she could go far away too if it meant protection.  The bison seemed willing to give that.

Buff answered, "Well, you mean the humans?  Well, those predites attacked us and tore me up pretty bad.  Myles said he had heard of some humand actually helping animals in need.  So we tried it.  We met a farmer who treated my injuries and after a while, I got better.  Then, we found Tom in the woods.  We thought he was lost but he wasn't.  There were bad guys near by so we gave him a ride home just in case.  We have kind become friends since then.  Mind you, I don't trust just any human though."
Title: Beasts of the American West
Post by: Petrie. on March 27, 2006, 02:23:13 PM
Morgan nodded again.  "The safety in numbers cliche," she said, rather quietly, "can't say I've ever tried it since hares mostly are soliditary and do not live in groups.  Our cousins, the rabbits do that stuff, and well, they breed like rabbits, what can you say?" she laughed.

She looked Tom over.  He seemed friendly enough.  Buff probably wouldn't be around him if he meant any true harm.  It was just so unnatural....but fun in a way.  There could be some benefit having all different kinds traveling together in a pinch.  "I guess in that case, I will join you guys, on the condition that any predator of mine refrain from drooling on me."  :P:

Meanwhile, Buff was standing under a tree looking at the juicy leaves that were just out of his reach.
Myles said, "Forget it.  We are just going to have to settle for grass today."
he buffalo replied, "Watch this!"
He reared on his hind legs and lept into the air, grabbed the branch, and, and pulled it out of the tree, leaves and all.

Morgan stared at the leaves, not at all interested in them at first.

"And what may I ask is wrong with grass?" she inquired, picking up one of the leaves and looking it over.  Giving it a nibble, she didn't find it too bad, but certainly not what she was used to.  "Mm...these aren't that bad, but I'd sure prefer the grass any day.  What do you call these?" she asked the buffalo who seemed to be quite happy to get this food.

"I'm a hare too," she protested, hating being called a rabbit all the time.  "Rabbits don't have the guts to do this," she explained, taking a quick lash out at the wolf closest to her with a clawed hind leg, but perhaps age or carelessness was catching up with her, since she missed her target and swiped at the air.  "Uhh...we're playing 'three strikes' correct?" she stammered.

Myles smacked a couple of wolves aside with his antlers.  Blaze kicked the wolf that was attacking her.  Myles slammed his attackers into a tree and said, "Don't mess with me, fool!"

Myles tossed another wolf against a tree.

Myles said, "Um, lets get out of here."
Blaze said, "Yeah."
Buff said, "Come on."
They ran away as fast as they could.
Buff said, "I didn't think I hit him that hard.  Hopefully, he won't mess with us again."
The moose replied, "I hope so."

Myles asked, "Have you lost your mind?"
Buff replied, "I don't know what is wrong but meybe the humand can help.  I don't care what he did, he doesn't deserve to suffer.  I'm going back."

Just then, Myles caught up and said, "Buff, this is a bad idea.  Lets just go."

ooc: You two are brutal.  :o  :P:

Morgan looked at the dying wolf until he breathed his last.  Catching up with the buffalo, she added, "Defeat him, you did, but I doubt that was the smartest of moves....wolves live in packs you know, so while you may have taken down one, do you think you could do the same to four surrounding you, teeth and claws ready to strike?"

She looked Buff in the eye before he could walk any father.  "You're a strong one, Buff, but you know nothing of how to use that strength.  You're smart to realize that wolves are indeed a threat to herbivores, but you are certainly not wise.  You have four feet same as me...use them.  Scatter.  Taking down a wolf does nothing else but give them a greater psychological boost to come do the same to you...and there will be many coming at once.  I've seen too many hunts in my time....they'll pick one to go after...and next time it'll be you."

Morgan continued to look at him, seriously, "I'm suggesting you think before you act, because soon you'll find yourself in a position you wished you weren't in--and it happened because you looked before you leaped...in this case you have a dead wolf and an angry pack of wolves licking their chops not ten feet away from us..."

She was ready to bolt as well, not wishing to wait around any longer.

He took off running.  Myles said, "Yeah.  I ain't hanging arond any longer."
Buff was running as fast as he could go.  He was careful not to accidently trample on Morgan though.  (a 1,000 pound bison would flatten a rabbit. :o :p  ) She was still ble to remain in front of him.  Myles seemed to be almost as fast.
Buff said, "Hey, lets cross the fiver.  The water will wash away our scent so they can't sniff us out.  Plus, the water will slow them down too."

Just then, Tom and his Dad come out of hiding.  Tom's father was taking him hunting and saw the wolves getting ready to attack.  He cocks his lever action 243 and plugs a round into a wolf's head.  He jumps out from behind the bushes and starts firing rounds into the air. "GET OUT OF HEEEEEERE!  GET OUUT!  GO!" yells Tom's father as he keeps shooting until his gun is dry.  By then the wolves and Colgar have fled.

"But is there a way to break into a padlocked cabin?  Or if we DO manage to get inside, how are we going to break into an indestructible gun safe?  And what about sharp objects like those things they call knives.  Us wolves interfere with human living so much, they won't even show us any mercy.  We kill their livestock, we kill their children.  Heck, we even try to kill them." says another random wolf.

Morgan ran with the others as they left the vicinity of the wolves.  Stopping for a bit, a kestrel had flown down.  Morgan instinctively hid under the buffalo, since kestrels sometimes might decide on a snack of lapine.  It mentioned that it never ate rabbits, but Morgan wasn't too sure of that.  Rabbits perhaps, but she wasn't a rabbit.

"And what of hares?  Do you serve those at your cocktail parties?" she asked rather quickly.

Buff walked into the woods.  The sun was shining and a light breez blew through the trees.  Buff felt happy yo be alive.  But then, a tear rolled out of his eye wnd was soaked up by his hair.  He started to cry.
Myles asked, "What's wrong?"
Buff didn't answer.  He just walked on ahead.  Myles thought he knew what this was about.  Buff was missing his brother again.  The moose couldn't help but feel sorry for him.  Myles had never lost anyone he loved before.  But Buff had lost his parents at an early age and now his brother was gone.  He had no mate and his herd had cast him out and abandoned him.  They had since moved on.  Buff suddenly ran off and left the others standing there.  He went off and found a quiet spot where he could be alone.  The bison laid down and burst into tears.
Myles said to Morgan, "I wish there was something I could to to make him feel better.  He is really depressed.  Do you think there is anything we can do?"
