The Gang of Five
Happy New Year, everyone!  Much to the relief of many, 2021 has finally come to a close and 2022 has arrived.  With a new year comes not only hopes for the future, but also new projects on the forum.

First, we now have a new phase to the forum’s character showcase.  We have decided that 2022 will be a transition year from notable characters to general discussion of the LBT films.  From the legendary original film, to the introduction of Chomper in LBT 2, to the mysterious rainbowfaces in the seventh film, they will all be getting a showcase this year.  Details can be found here .

Secondly, we are seeking feedback on the Fanfiction Prompt challenge before it starts back up in February.  If you have any feedback that you would like to give then please do in this topic.

We hope that the new year brings you all happiness and joy!  We look forward to seeing what the forum community comes up with over the coming year. :)

Character Showcase / Re: Mr. Thicknose Showcase - January 2022
« on: January 23, 2022, 03:14:31 PM »

1.  How useful do you think Mr. Thicknose’s lectures are to the general education of the children?

I'd say he probably has a lot of knowledge to hand from hearing so much over the years so he's probably pretty useful.

2.  What life lessons do you think are showcased by Mr. Thicknose’s experiences in LBT VIII?

I suppose Mr Thicknose shows that even though he might know a lot from hearing about things, knowledge goes hand-in-hand with experience. The kids may have had the experience when they went looking for Ducky and found the hot springs, but they also needed Mr Thicknose's knowledge to help them realise where they were in the Mysterious Beyond.

I like that he gets a bit more adventurous in the TV series such as when he went off to see Hidden Runner, and I always find the spats between him and Mr Threehorn rather amusing too.

I love all of these designs, and it's always nice to see people's takes on dinosaurs that haven't appeared in LBT. I especially love Izzy! Great work!

Always nice to see more LBT stuff from you, Jassy. Those are some great sketches, and I'm looking forward to seeing what role this character will play in your fanfic!

Hey another person is hopping on the picture train!  :bestsharptooth

I think the first 2 are my favourite ones. The first has the steam covering the bottom front of the frame giving it a bit more spoopy vibe, and the 2nd one looks great with how they're all lined up. Nice job!

Yeah I like the first 2 as well.  :bestsharptooth

Found a couple from quite a few years ago on a school trip. As part of a history trip we went to Kehlsteinhaus, otherwise known as the Eagle's Nest, which was a Nazi building. But instead of the actual building, I was more focussed on the birds since they came so close to us. :p I think they're Alpine choughs, but I'm not so sure (I'm not that familiar with bird species). So... have some birds!

I believe these were all taken with my first bridge camera, probably the same one used for the very first photos I posted in this thread since it would have been around 2014-2015.

I've found a bunch of photos that I took at air shows from a few years ago so you might see some airplanes. Problem is, they're only available on this one website I uploaded them to and the only way to download them is to get each one individually... and there's like 2000 photos so I might be a while with those lol.  :rhett_ohsnap

I sound like a stuck record at this point but I still can't get over how adorable your style is! Love the OC designs too!

Time to revive this topic.  :bestsharptooth

Suddenly felt inspired to post my own photography again. I've got a lot of stuff from over the years, but the main things I used to take photos of a few years back was steam locomotives (I was very into the heritage railway game a few years back)! So here's a few of those. I've got a few more recent ones of nice views from places I've visited, but I might put those in a different post. I really need to try and get back into photography this year, and take photos of something other than my cats lol.

This first was taken at the Severn Valley Railway which is my local heritage railway. This engine wasn't officially named but I have heard it being called the 'Flying Pig'.

This lineup was taken at Didcot railway centre in 2017, for the summer bank holiday event which involved Flying Scotsman coming to visit. Most of these engines here are Great Westerns as seen by the copper-capped chimney, but the forefront engine is a London North Eastern express engine. That one is known as 'Union of South Africa' who has now been retired, and the one next to her is 'King Edward II'. I can't remember what the two at the back are. :p

This one is also from Didcot, starring the star of the show, 'Flying Scotsman', which is arguably one of the most famous steam locomotives in the world.

This is 'Flying Scotsman' at the Shildon Shed Bash in 2016, not long after its overhaul.

Another famous engine, 'Mallard', resting in the National Railway Museum, York. 'Mallard' is famous for being the fastest steam locomotive in the world, reaching a maximum speed of 126mph.

This double-headed train is passing through Arley station on the Severn Valley Railway.

This is 'Tornado' on a snowy day at the Severn Valley Railway. 'Tornado' is a new build, being completed in 2008.

This is 'King Edward II' again at the same spot on the same day, but with the snow getting a bit worse. :p

This is probably my favourite engine, 'Duchess of Sutherland', at Tyseley Locomotive Works.

And this is a more recent photo of her on the mainline at Worcester Shrub Hill, sporting her red livery from her early days. This was taken on my phone which... doesn't handle zoom well lol.

Finally, this little engine is known as 'Bellerophon', just pulling into Kidderminster station at the SVR.

More to follow shortly...

Oh man those are some gorgeous views. That earlier one of the milky way is just amazing.  The second-to-last photo in the most recent post is really nice too, it looks kinda mystical.

I also should get into hiking because I like to take photos of views like this, but I'm lazy. :p Great stuff!

I always love your Ruby sketches! No references either? That's really impressive! Great work!

It's becoming a similar story with the fanart prompts. A lot of regulars have either left or are too busy with other things to participate. But to answer your questions:

1) If time and creative motivation allows, I'd like to start particpating in the fanfic prompts if they are to go ahead this year. The thing is I'm a lot less confident in my writing compared to my art and thus feel a bit iffy about uploading fanfiction, but I suppose that's what the prompts are all about, right?

2) I haven't got any particular prompts in mind right now, but I can have a look through previous prompts and potentially discuss any ideas I come up in the discord chat.

3) Seeing as I haven't participated before, I can't really comment on what format I prefer, but the bi-monthly prompts seems to work well for fanart as it gives people a bit more time to get their entries in.

I hope that helps a little bit. I want to get myself a bit more out there with creative stuff and prompts are a good way of doing so, so it would be a shame to see it come to an end. Of course it depends if it's worth doing them based on participation, so hopefully we'll see some others take part this year.  :yes

Fan Voice Overs / Re: [VO2] Character Status for voice-over of LBT7
« on: January 02, 2022, 08:21:15 PM »
I'm not sure if I ever talked about this with Mumbling, but we may have originally planned to have just one character per cast member, but if it becomes necessary, we could potentially try out having one cast member voicing two or more characters if we can't get a large enough cast assembled.  I'll bring this up with Mumbling when I get a chance.

That's fair. My thinking is that I can be available to step in as a 'backup' VA for one other role if there's a struggle to fill it. I think I can change up my voice enough, but when I get a moment I'll try and record myself as a different character to make sure.

First of all Rainbow, good luck with the new job!

It's a shame you have to pull out, but I do get where you're coming from. If I remember correctly I was up for having a role in the original dub but also fell out of LBT while it was being done. It was nice to come back and see it finished though. I would say this project wouldn't take so long since now we have a bit more experience with doing this sort of thing but of course with the limited number of active members doing the voiceovers and those members also being pretty busy, it will take some time yet.

I was going to leave it at just Petrie's mom for this project since I'm not sure just how much I can switch up my voice, but if there are any gaps within the female roles I can maybe try and put another audition in sometime? Or I can try and do some one-liners if that helps? I'm free most weekends now and hopefully when I start my training for my new job I'll be in a hotel room so I'll have a fair bit of privacy.

Welcome to the GoF!  :rainbowwave

You always draw Chomper looking so darn cute! Cera's a mood haha

I agree, the lighting from the TV looks great! Nice job!  :ChomperImAwesome

Littlefoot, Ducky or Cera. Which character would you be upset if they died in the series?

All of them. But if I had to pick one, then I'd be most upset with Ducky.

What do you think of musicals?

I like them, but I've gotta be in the mood to watch one.

I haven't found much time recently to go through the films again and look for more animation errors (I still need to see if there's anymore nightmare fuel in the VII remaster :P) but I'll try and have another look as soon as I can.
