Welcome back to the forum!  :rainbowwave

Congratulations on completing this project.  :)littlefoot The time that this had to have taken, both for film watching and the resulting calculations, had to have been quite extensive.

The final totals do provide some interesting surprises.  I am not shocked that Ruby had the least screen time of the main gang as, if it wasn't for the 14th film, she would not have had any screen time at all.  Mama Swimmer breaking into the top ten (beating Chomper no less) was also quite the surprise to me.  Petrie making it into fourth place was also quite the comeback for him considering how starved for time he was in some of the early films.  Though I don't think there was any surprises in the top three.  Cera will be a bit mad about being shut out of 1st place, however.  :taunttroll

Congratulations on completing this project!  :)littlefoot  I can't imagine how many rewatches of the films it took to get these recorded times, especially with how chaotic some scenes can be with multiple characters on screen at once.   I eagerly look forward to seeing the completed totals, and seeing what surprises they may contain.  :yes

And Petrie finally gets the top prize!  :)petrie  Truth be told, this film has quite a few surprises in the results.  I had expected Petrie to take 1st place, but to see Littlefoot completely knocked out of the top three is quite something to see.  It is also interesting to see Guido pick up second place for screen time in this film.

I wish you the very best of luck with the next film... just remember that you are in the final stretch unless Universal makes a surprise announcement about a fifteenth film in the next week or so.  :yes

Character Showcase / The Land Before Time 12 Showcase - February 2023

Just in time for Diddy’s analysis of this film for the film screen time project, let’s all give the twelfth film a warm welcome!  :)petrie

------------

In this topic please feel free to discuss your thoughts on the twelfth film.  I will go ahead and present a few questions to get things started:

1) This is one of the first films to put the spotlight on a character other than Littlefoot (with the eighth film being the other one), do you wish that there were other films which did the same thing?

2) What do you see as the major themes of this film?  Did they resonate with you as a viewer?

3) What do you think of Guido as a character?  As his backstory is shrouded in mystery, do you have a personal head-canon as to his background?

Slow and steady (almost) wins the race for Spike.  :SmugSpike

Finally, it has happened.  Littlefoot has been knocked off of his pedestal in favor of Ducky no less.  Though I think we all know the person who is most happy for this event is  x(cera and will no doubt give Littlefoot grief over it.  :p

Wow, i had not noticed this project until now.  First of all, kudos on taking the time to actually measure the screen time of each character.  That takes some serious dedication.  :yes

The first four films certainly have their share of surprises.  The most notable ones that I have noticed is that Ducky beat out Cera in the first film, Chomper only made 7th place in the second film, and that Littlefoot was only challenged for top screen time in the fourth film thus far.  The fact that Rooter's appearance in the 1st film was only 73 seconds also blows my mind.  If I had to venture a guess, I suspect that either the 8th film or the 12th film might be the only ones where Littlefoot is knocked off of his 1st place pedestal.

Keep up the good work!  I look forward to seeing what the remaining films look like in terms of screen time.  :)

Character Showcase / Re: The Land Before Time 11 Showcase - January 2023
« on: January 19, 2023, 12:55:42 PM »
I remember this film as it was the last one that I purchased as a gift for my nephew who was into the series at the time.  The film itself did not make much of an impression on me, though it did establish the dangers of keeping secrets and telling half-truths. Though the reaction of the valley does concern me a bit.  Littlefoot appears to fear something akin to banishment for disturbing the treesweet tree, whereas after his statement casts blame on the tinysaursuses the valley's reaction to them borders on genocidal.  This does make me think that the valley might need to be taught the value of proportionality.  :p

First of all, congratulations for ten years on the forum, Ducky! :)

I think that for any major rewrite of a story it is probably best to post it as a new story and topic on the forum.  This not only can allow for a clear showcase of how your writing has evolved, but it also can help to confuse readers who might see comments in the topic with reviews and comments about the previous iteration of the story.

I also must admit that I am coming more and more to your line of thinking, Sneak, when you suggest that stories are best to be posted when they are finished.  I have had issues with Mender’s Tale due to the posting schedule and how it interferes with the collaborative nature of the story with me and Historian.  That is part of the reason that our next project (untitled thus far but it is up to 250,000 words) will only be posted when we are done and Mender’s Tale is done.  At the very least, having a detailed plan for long-fics before anything is posted is probably a good idea for some writers.  :yes

Whew, that was a rather tense chapter as the group finally makes their escape.  The fact that others join them on the way out is clearly an indication that the desire to leave the island is clearly there in the population, even if the one in power does not permit it as a possibility.  It will be quite interesting to see how their trek across the Big Water goes.  Is the journey as treacherous as they say, or was that just a ruse to discourage travel?  I suppose our characters (and us as readers) will find out soon enough.  :yes
