Attic Treasures / What are you reading?

Frank Herbert's Dune.  I guess I am still in a nostalgic mood.  I am revisiting another old favorite of mine.

The Fridge / Rats get infrared vision
« on: September 15, 2013, 09:09:43 PM »
I remember a news article from a few years back which described a similar procedure for detecting visual light in rats.  I am glad to see that the technology is improving from the rather crude attempts that were being tested a few years ago.  It will be interesting to see how this technology is applied over the next several years.

Petrie in his tryout for the role of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:

Petrie:  So you're a killer?

Sharptooth:  Sir, yes sir!

Petrie: Then let me see your war face!

Sharptooth: Sir?

Petrie: You got a war face! AAAAAAAAHH! That's a war face, let me see your war face!

Sharptooth: AAAAAAAAHH!

The Party Room / The "Would You Rather" Game!
« on: September 15, 2013, 02:31:36 PM »
I would rather eat something delicious.  My heart rate tends to skyrocket when I am emerged in warm water, which interestingly does not happen when I take warm showers.

Would you rather live during the apex of a civilization or its decline? (Bonus points if you know which film this question comes from.)

Silver Screen / What are you watching?

Cosmos: A Personal Voyage

This television series has been a favorite of mine ever since I was introduced to it during my teenage years.  Despite some of the science no longer being quite up-to-date (which is understandable - it was produced 33 years ago), it remains an excellent primer into the basics of fundamental scientific concepts.  Whenever I am exhausted or worn down (like I am now) I find that this series never ceases to inspire and re-energize me.

Cera knew things were going to get weird when Universal asked David Lynch to direct the next film.

Cera:  Littlefoot says that I have got anger issues.  Hmmph.  I will show him!  I don't have anger issues, do I guys?

Ducky: Well...

Petrie: Umm...

Cera:  :anger

Cera uses CHARGE.  It’s super effective! (Perhaps I should lay off the Pokemon games for a while)

Wow, I can't believe I haven't read this story until now.   :slap

This is very well written and it is an enjoyable read.  I especially like your characterization of Pterano and his internal struggles with his emotions and the memories of the past.  It humanizes (er.. um... dinosaurizes?) him to a much greater extent that what is typically found in the fanfictions that I have read.  I eagerly await your next installment.  :)
