As mentioned in several topics, we have a bunch of emotes all over the place. We should decide on a few things:

  • Which emotes to move to a separate pop-up [more] underneath the other emotes
  • How to organize the emotes

This poll is created to decide on how to organize the emotes. We will need to discuss which emotes to move to the separate pop-up as well. Feel free to do so here.

I've voted for the first variant (by creator). But I think it is not good idea to hide a part of emoticons in the separate window, because the hidden emoticons will not be used often.
To prevent the excessive height of emoticon panel, I would like to offer fixed height + vertical scroll for it.
Or move ALL the emoticons to the separate window.

Yes, that is something that might happen. I was also thinking of moving all emotes to make sure people don't miss out on any, but that makes adding emotes to a post even more a pain in the butt (especially on mobile) ;)

Fixed height could be an option, though again we would have to consider how that would look and work on mobile.

Didn't see any problem :littlefoot

For this example I chose max-height 300px. Probably we can reduce the size of emoticons in the panel for mobiles.

Cool! Will definitely consider that as an option then! @The Chronicler would that work for you too?

What about adding radio button that switches sorting method? :D

Well, I prefer to group emotions by emotion type more.

That would be nice, but right now we can only sort them manually (in one way). Unless Stardisk has a solution for this too? :)

Also, we can make new thread to list all emotes from forum and discord, and give a credits to their authors. I don't see a need to sort emotes by authors.

Forum platform doesn't allow to sort them dinamically?

I mean, what we can add or change, and what we can't?

You can already see who the author of an emote is by hovering over it (the text will let you know who made it) :)

The default SMF system allows me to manually move an emote elsewhere (see attached image, where I selected  :littlefoot:) and I can put him in another spot)

Unless Stardisk has a solution for this too? :)
Of course  :littlefoot
I'd love to hear it :D

I know you can see authors by hovering on it, but you can't see who author is on mobile version. :P

I voted for "By creator". Since every artist here has their own unique style and I think that would be a nice way to show that off. :)

Of course, as Sneak mentioned, if there was a way to have some sort of button that switched between sorting methods, that would be even cooler. But if that isn't possible, then "By creator" is my personal preference.

I voted ''by creator'' as well. For me it seems the most logical option, but there are of course those that will disagree with me on that. I second Stardust and Sneak about the button that can switch between sorting methods. I feel like that could help a lot. :)

Okay, I've been thinking about what exactly I would prefer, and after reading through the suggestions mentioned thus far, I agree that a selection box that's fixed in one direction and can be scrolled in the other direction would be an excellent way to keep the selection box as minimally invasive as possible. The reason I've worded it like that is because I simply can't decide whether to do it by x-axis or y-axis, so to speak. Those two options are actually inspired by what I'm familiar on other sites. BZPower uses only a single row of emotes that can be scrolled horizontally, while FiMFiction uses a square box about as wide as ten emotes that can be scrolled vertically. Perhaps it might be worth starting another poll to see which of those two orientations everyone might prefer.

As for my vote in this poll, I went with "by character", mostly because it's similar to what I'm familiar with on FiMFiction.

By character is my vote. Many times when I use an emote I usually have a LBT character in mind to use as said emote. :P
Would it be possible for swimmers and flyers to get more love around here? Both figuratively… and literally.

Quick update:

Stardisk is working on creating a version where we can sort the emotes in all of the 3 above ways. It should be ready soon. Also with the added scroll bar of course :)

For now I have sorted them manually by character as this was the most voted for option. This will not be the final look. But just to give an idea.
