I've actually started reading the book :) . Frankly I find the best thing that book!Muldoon does is inducting that at least Tim is alive following the Tyrannosaur attack just by the presence of his undamaged watch.

In spite of that, I still feel more of an attachment to the film version, as does my friend. I think with his background, he might be able to survive and just barely cling on, but he was pretty much at death's door when he is found by Penny in the role play. He'd be at a point where it would be considered a huge miracle for him to have survived the journey underground.

That's not really the part I'm worried about, though, it's the issue of how Penny gets to him, and how all the stuff from Nublar/Sorna/other three islands start coming over and wreaking havoc. And why a health&safety inspector is going on a massive search and rescue into worlds unknown. Which is probably the biggest thing.

Well, yeah, that is true. It's such great ancient history that the Dinotopians of the 1800's considered it to be myth...at least until Arthur Dennison found massive amounts of fact in it. Egypt would be much farther from Dinotopia than Nublar, so the tunnels do make a bit more sense.

So, it would be 1993 when Penny would come up on Nublar, and there might be some people daring enough to break ancient code and go poking around. However, there's still the question of why she came along on the mission to rescue a lost baby dinosaur. She's something along the lines of a health and safety inspector for businesses and so forth. I've written her as being on a break from work after her last inspection and came along just to help, but that doesn't seem quite right either.

That does make a bit more sense. Though, it doesn't answer how the baby dinosaur got there either...it's depicted as an ankylosaur. Penny is also riding on her Tenontosaurus companion when she rescues Muldoon...not sure how well he could fit in a submarine, even a big one =P

The idea does hold water (...ha) though, because there are underwater tunnels in Dinotopia's world beneath, mainly to the sunken city of Posidos.

Plague, in my mind, holds water too, since the biggest culprit, besides fleas on the rats, was bacteria, combined with a lack of immunity to find it...I'm pretty sure that of all the people in high-quality living (their quality of living might even be better than those in the western world) , they would be the most vulnerable to plague.

One of the biggest dinosaur threats I can think of is one of the Spinosaurs from Sorna, which starts beating the crap out of pretty much every large predator on Dinotopia. Including other Spinosaurs, which I think of as being the most benign of the big ones there, and even have some involvement with the lives of humans...mostly in keeping the shores safe. It's gotta get there somehow, as well as the Sorna Velociraptors, Diloposaur from both, and the Compys.

Hello all. It's been a while since I've posted anything, but for some reason, I felt I didn't have anything to contribute since the last time I did.

However, I am in need of some brainstorming for an issue I personally am having with a roleplay I'm doing with a friend.

It's a Jurassic Park-Dinotopia crossover roleplay that is just between the two of us, and an enormous part of it is pretty much bull-pooped to get the story going.

The story is focused on Muldoon surviving his attack by the Big Raptor, but being stranded (same friend is writing a story about his experiences, including caring for the baby raptor that hatched in the movie). A woman from Dinotopia comes up from underground while searching for a lost baby dinosaur and brings her back with him. However, he is not the only one to come from Nublar to Dinotopia, and there is a greater threat to the well-being of the island than the dinosaurs coming through from Nublar...when there is an outbreak of rats and plague infects the humans. And also he forms a special friendship with the woman who saves him

Based on the information from the Dinotopia books, it's best assumed that it's in the Pacific Ocean...same with Nublar. For the sake of plot, Dinotopia is connected to Isla Nublar (and Sorna...and the other three islands) by a series of underground tunnels/The World Beneath. However...I feel like this is MASSIVELY contrived.

And yet...I think rats from the outside world being a bigger threat to the Dinotopian populace than genetically altered monstrosity dinosaurs running amok is...incredibly awesome.
I mean, this is the image I use for the roleplay page!

And then there's the question of why Muldoon's rescuer was on a search party in the first place. Penny Lewis, the character in question, is an inspector...could there be a better reason than "I just wanted to help"? She's not even a native Dinotopian, she's from New Zealand originally, and had been living on Dinotopia practically her entire adult life thus far.

Does anyone have advice?

It's Party Time! / The Bad Translator Game.

Wow this thread is old...I just thought I'd post here because I made some bad translations for Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors...

Seymour

Lipstick, increase the screw head lava here

and let me your face, pure as tomorrow,

I know that it was bad,

but now all of them are good

Seymour and suddenly your needs without makeup,

you don’t need to pretend that all of a sudden

that Seymour here is to give you a sweet, understanding comrade Seymour

Audrey

Wasn’t someone asks you left of my father,

my mother is a bad start,

I want to find a man blindly and will bite his finger, stick with me, I’d say [This line is hilarious given how Audrey herself had been in an incredibly abusive relationship, and just learned that her boyfriend had disappeared (murdered by Seymour to feed him to the Audrey II plant)...but according to Bad Translator, it's just a bit different...)

Suddenly Seymour is estandin to me,

that gives me any command not have worshipped here suddenly Seymour ?

Seymour and friend of mine, and I understand it, sweet

Seymour

Tell me, what do you think the last person tell me the worst case of Best linen

Audrey

Please understand that it is very strange, terrible mistake is hard to say

Suddenly Seymour,

cleanse me suddenly Seymour,

showed me that you can learn how a girl

with my sweet, sweet, sweet and narrow principle of understanding, my man!

Seymour, Audrey, Company

Suddenly Seymour, It will cleanse your suddenly Seymour,

you can learn how others understand

you is cute and sweet and girl understand

Bad Translator is a little different now, so the final translation does not show all the languages used.

Can we just...talk about how BESIDES Applesauce's physics breaking that she also resembles Applejack closely, in color of eyes and coat? Which, other than just being related to Applejack, might suggest even more evidence, by just combining elements of Applejack and Pinkie

The most for me pretty much happened solely during my visit in Minnesota last summer. I was having a conversation with my friend and her mother and they brought up the fact that one of their cats had stuck around as a ghost after death and would come around every so often.

And I sort of tucked it into the back of my mind until later in the week when I saw a cat galumph outside the room I was in, right out the corner of my eye. But there was no cat, but it looked like the one they had described. So I pretty much said "Hey um, I think I saw your ghost cat". A day or two later, I thought I felt a cat rub on my leg, but once again, no cats.

Jeez, is my cat magnet so intense it draws in ones from beyond the mortal coil!? Someone turn off my cat signal!

...I'm trying to make a half-paragraph long Dalek-esque schpiel...but I can't quite figure it out 8| .

I've done a ton of Dalek-related stuff on my dA. "Naked" Daleks...darn casings are too ridiculous to draw. That and I'm more interested in what goes on inside the shell.

Welcome to the place :)

The Fridge / Gender Misconceptions
« on: November 22, 2013, 02:42:05 PM »
It was pretty much just the Blanket from The Brave Little Toaster that I thought was...feminine. It's supposed to be like a little boy, though.

I have a bit of gender confusion of my own right now. The Doctor Who audio play "Dark Eyes" has a Dalek that wanders around loose from its shell, named Thelos. They never use any pronouns with it, but I really, really want to slap a pronoun on it. My confusion comes from the voice, since it's neither masculine nor feminine.

So of course I have three Dalek storylines running around in my head, two developing more and more as I work on it.

There's one that I'm struggling with on a scientific standpoint. I have extended my work on the Daleks residing in New Skaro. In the last link I posted, you will see a discussion I had based on their reproductive biology...mainly the fact that they have eight genders.
My idea was that this was because their started as gonad-less androgenites (...yeah, I made that word up), and had to work up to having two separate genders.
It goes:
Androgynous - Gametes can mix with any other indiscriminately
Hermaphrodite - Masculine, feminine, and neutral
Male and female - There are also 'feminine males' and 'masculine females'...basically the same as seahorses.

My math is probably completely wrong, but there are 64 potential pairing mixes here, with only nine NOT resulting in offspring. Or less...since a masculine male and a masculine female technically can have their gametes mixed, it would just be a very difficult process...and I'm not really sure how it would get done.

One factor to keep in mind is that while they are socially monogamous, taking only one partner for a lifetime, they are sexually polygamous. For similar reasons to several species on earth. One sole partner to share a life and home with, but with short stands mixed in to propagate the species.

The person I was talking with stated that eight genders seems a bit complicated and senseless. And it's already clearly confusing as it is.

But with you as an 'armchair biologist', as you once called yourself...is there a way to make sense of it? With the New Skarorean Daleks having a fairly small population (at least compared to the Daleks during the Time War), how would having eight genders work?

I really need to write down their complicated social lives and gender structure...it's a mess.

I had mine pulled before my Senior year, I think. The problem was that I got my first big ear infection right on top of it. That was where the main pain came from. My ear canal was so sealed up, the physicians couldn't see past it with their normal ear-checking tools.

The nice thing was that I had my parents all to myself that week :) .

I was also put under, and the last thing I remember was the surgeons putting a blanket over me. The needle didn't even hurt, but I could feel the effects of the drug XD
