Oh,man, that was an awsome film! I went to the midnight showing last night and had the most fun at a film that I've had in a long time!
Fairing warning, though, its plot and chaacter heavier than the first one, and its part one of a two parter story, the third is part two. They have great sequences (not scenes, sequences) of pure hilarious physical comedy! This is a must see for anyone who liked the first movie! And there's a twist at the end. Let's just say that someone I can't name pops up again. ;)
-
I couldn't see a midnight showing having to be up at 5:30 in the morning for work. ^^ I went tonight, and yes, RR doesn't usually watch sequels, but this one I knew, probably would be ok. Oh man, that was something...it's not as light as the first one...this one is dead deep and serious. That ending...oooh...Disney grinds my gears making me go watch another sequel ending it like that.
-
Thank you for Not spoiling this one for me; I plan to see it in the near future. This looks fantastic!
-
i just saw it today! it was better than the first! the flying dutchman i want that ship!
-
In general, I'dm agree with Roger on this, but this is Johnny Depp we're talking about here. The actor who's never, ever done a sequel before, because he hates the commercialism of Hollywood. That meant to me that for him to be interested enough to return, it must be one heck of a good script. :D
The sequel has a few ups and downs, be warned. Some things they improved over the original, and some things the original was better at.

Attention readers, I haven't seen the movie yet nor did I read anything about it, yet I will make some guesses about what might be in it. While I can't be sure there may be correct guesses in this post which would be spoilers. So don't read on if you don't want to run the risk of a right guess=spoiler ;)
EDIT: I'll answer it via PM...don't want to spoil it, since I don't think Tim wants any info. ;)

:P:
I'm going to see it with Amethyst tonight after work. I'm looking forward to it! B)
-
The First one I thought was ok I'll probably see DMC sometime soon.
-
hmm, well change of plans: Something important came up, so my group rescheduled Pirates for sunday (tomorrow) instead of tonight. :P:
-
Good to hear that you like it Wr! You 're not an easy customer to please, either, judging by your comments on previous movies. I for one am looking forward to seeing it...
-
Oy!
OK first of all, the movie was a Riot; just Hilarious! :D
I loved the mix of action, adventure, comedy, drama, and serious aspects. And yes, that ending was quite...unexpected. I'm really looking forward to what they do with that!
-
Apparently you guys weren't the only onses to see bit. About 20 million tickets wrre sold to the film over the last few days and the recipts to the film total $132 million. yes, that is not a misprint. That broke 'Spiderman' 's previous mark by nearly S18 million. $300 million is a given in the US.
-
It's similar to Shrek 2 in the sense that sequel has done financially better than its predecessor. :P: That just shows they knew how to make a good sequel. :yes
-
Speaking of shrek, isn't shrek 3 due out next year?
-
Yeah, as a matter of fact, it is. We'll probably start to see trailers of it pretty soon.
I'm glad you guys like like, thus far, because it s a freaking battlefield over whether it was it excellent, a disappointment, or just plain bad over at Internet Movie Database. Everyone's up in arms. Its like some people forgot that they went to see the first one for a fun ride and were expecting the sequel to be an artpiece or something. It lived up to expectations as far as I'm concerned, and I have no clue why the contriversy has been stirred up among the fans.
-
Cool! I didn't even know that they were going to make a third Shrek!
With all those little dragondonkeys we might get to see some little Shreks and Fionas too. What do you think?
-
This one is supposed to be something like "Shrek meets King Arthur" Insert your favorite Monthy Python joke here  I for one think it going to be great! Let's just hope that they can keep the magic of the first, without have to to resort to 'thong' jokes, like they did in the second.
-
I have seen it and it is funny and some points it wasn't as good as the first one but still pretty cool to watch :) since I been in the USA I seen about 5 movies at the Cinemras so far lol :) twice one week and one every weekend so far. So I am upto date with new films it cool. :) I wonder which one I will see this Friday evening lol.

You're lucky Threehorn, I envy you :) . You asre absolutelt right Wk, the reaction to DMc has been all over the mapp. Some say its great, some say it's ok, and still others say it blows chunks. It is rare however for a film to be lauded by critics and fans alike, and hold up over time. the LOTR trilogy is Exhibit A of this rare feat: a film (on this case films) that recieved high praise from most critics as well as from the fans. DMC fits in with the more common reception: mixed reviews by Critics.

I figure they'll probably announce Fiona at the beginning, and we'll probably see (a) little Shrek(s) and/or Fiona(s).
All I know is that this one features King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, and Guinevere as leading characters, portrayed as college students.
-
JP 4, right? Personally I didn't care much for 2 or 3.
-
I love #1 and #3, hated #2. I just hope they make it entertaining, instead of trying to preach at us again.
-
I saw DMC last night, and I LOVED it. It was darker than the first, but Depp turned in another stellar performance as Captain Jack. the Ending offered some interesting sub-plots to look for in Pirates 3.
-
Pointness addition to a dead thread, but this film decently crossed this $440 million mark.
-
With my favorite movie "A Scanner Darkly" right behind it. "Scanner" did really good in the box office and did almost as good as Pirates.
-
$00 milion you mean Wr. DMc is the 7th film to make $400 million, and is now 6th on the all-time list, passing the original Spiderman. It will not pass Titanic, but if it grosses another 57 million it will pass Star WArs as #2 all-time on the US list. It probably will pass $1 billion worldwide...
-
Yes, I did mean $00 million, it was a typo.
-
$00 million?? That doesn't make any sense. What do you mean by $00 million?
-
400 million. THe $ is just a 4 but I hit the shift key while putting the 4 in...
-
Well, in any case, it recently crossed the $400 million line, in the U.S. boxoffice. I believe the first one made somewhere between $350 million and $375 million, in the U.S. boxoffice.
Worldwide, the first one only made about $650 million-$675 million, this one's topped that by about $200 million, thus far, and its not done yet!
-
I can already see that Pirates 2 is WR's favorite movie of the summer. :lol Mine's "A Scanner Darkly".
-
I didn't know there was a movie called "A Scanner Darkly". What's it about?
-
Here's a review of it I found on YouTube. It's a really good movie. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rje0ocZDJ3Y (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rje0ocZDJ3Y)
-
And a trailer. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rje0ocZDJ3Y (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rje0ocZDJ3Y)
It came out in select cities about two months ago. So it's probably gone now.
-
Eh, it looks like its worth a look. I'll try to see it, whether it be in the theaters or DVD.
-
Trust me, it's worth it. ;)
-
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" just crossed the $1 billion line.
And there were people saying it would flop. Yeah...rrrriiiiiiiiiight...
-
So that makes it only the 3rd film to reach $1 billion. It may pass ROTK, but no way is it going to pass Titanic, It would need another 800 million to do that.
-
I was going to post a spoiler for POTC 3 but the image won't show up on this site for some stupid reason. And I can't delete this now totally useless post. Sorry.
-

Probably for the best anyway. I can only imagine what would happen if a Pirates fan (like me) stumbled across a Pirates3 spoiler :p
-
I love the movie. I also like POTC 3.
I love all of the rum references. When I watch it, I always forget that it is a Disney movie. Then I see the credits and the Disney logo.
Did anyone see the easter egg at the end of the first and second movie?
-
I have all three movies on my iPod and iPhone. It is a good trilogy. For starters, the dialogue is fairly witty. They are also great with pyrotechnics. I'm watching the first one right now, and it just at the scene when the Black Pearl first arrives at Port Royal. I also love the sword-fighting. It is excellently choreographed. They also got the mayhem and chaos extremely well. There were wooden ships, bed pans, hot coals, cannons, and Colonial buildings. They even had corsets.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: A Review
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Port Royal (Opening Scene)
The opening scene was good overall, but there were a few places where it was not good. I got confused when the camera kept switching between Elizabeth and the arresting of Will. I only recently realized that the arrest had already happened, and the switching was just a recap. I personally liked Lord Beckett pulling out the warrant for Elizabeth Swann instead of Will Turner, and then pulling out the warrant for Will Turner. The mention of Jack Sparrow's name gave a good sense of foreshadow.
Unnamed Island
This is just downright macabre. I mean, one guy is being dragged to almost certain death, and another is in a cage being eaten by crows. If that isn't macabre, then I have no clue what is. I got a good laugh out of Jack shooting the crow through the coffin. I also got a good laugh out of Jack's logic when he was explaining to the crew what they were going for. I can see why Jack would have some good done by shooting the monkey. Then, when they needed a heading, the compass shifting its direction gave a sense of foreshadow.
