It was a little too flashy in my opinion.  I really didn't like that effect.  I think you could have made it better if you used a lot of really short clips and nothing but the fizzle transition effect or perhaps none at all.  The clips that you chose were very appropriate, but I do think that you should have had none of those flashy effects.  Sorta hurts the eyes after you watch the vid...

I'm not saying that the vid wasn't any good, it was.  I'm just gonna go take an aspirin before I watch it again.  Maybe it's just my vision problems, but that really hurt. :(

The flashing effect was the best one for me to use in those scenes, in my opinion. This is because of the "dun dun dun dun" you hear. A "fizzle" effect would not have created much of an impact, and thus would not have worked, and no effect at all, that just wouldn't do for me.

I'm just suggesting that sorter clips such as .5 to 3 second clips all strung together could have provided the same effect, but without the flashing.  Using WMM alone to split movie clips isn't good for making such short one's, but another program would have done the trick.  I used to use easy video splitter, but it could only make clips as short as .7 seconds and they'd be all choppy, so I switched to a different program.

No it would not have created the same effect. The flashing scenes depict a complete scene, no sudden switches between one scene and another. No effect would not have created what I wanted, thus flashing was needed.

Plus I like the flashing effect. I don't get to use it that often, and when I do, I think it really sets the mood of the music playing in the background and how it fits in with the scene. That's how just how I view it.

I actually generally liked the flashing effect.  My only comments about the effect are in the 2:45 to 2:52 section.  There are a lot of flashes which are a bit off-beat compared to the music.  This would have been extremely cool if they lined up better with the music.  Other than that though, I loved your use of effects in this one. :D

If you have trouble synchronizing the flashes to the music, there are a couple of ways to approach an effect like that.

You can study the waveform of the audio file and locate the exact time of the musical events you want to synchronize the flashes to.  Offset the amount of time in the video before the music starts and BAM, you have the exact time.

You can use good old trial-and-error, adjusting the effects' timing until it feels right.  Trust me, you'll know when it's right.  If it doesn't have that *YES!* feeling, it's not right. ;)

With a little math or a sense of knowing when the audio and visual events are lined up can take an effect like this to the next level!

As for the rest of the vid: Well done. :D
