Title: Ideal method of transport?
Post by: Saft on April 15, 2010, 12:00:16 PM
Hmm..before I go biking I just couldn't resist asking this.

What's your ideal method of transportation system? Do you use it all the time?  Why do you use it?

If your method isn't in the poll, just write it out in the post.:)

It is single choice though.  It's the ideal method.

=Thanks=

(Polls are fun):D

I always use the bicycle. I've grown up that way.

Pro:

- It's cheap
- You don't need a licence
- It saves costs for a gym, this is the only exercise I got
- It's a lot faster than walking

Con:

- Not as fast as a car (But that can be solved by just leaving earlier)

In general I think my bicycle is a very good way of transportation in a small country like this. Cycling for an hour or two isn't an issue in my opinion either, so I can travel fair distances. Yep, I love my bicycle :)

In part it depends of course on distances (one may love to walk and still have a problem walking from London to Los Angeles :p) and also on which places one is visiting (a train will be of limited use if you need to get to a place where there are no tracks). If I have the choice however I will avoid going by car and prefer means of public transportation or go by foot (usually running rather than walking). It is a more environmentalist alternative and when going by bus or train one can also use the time of the way to read or the like.

Mm..bike is the best.  Although sometimes I have to take the train but it's better than car.

Bike/Walking is the best option but unfortunately, America isn't set up for that.  No one bikes or walks to get from place to place unless it's in a mall. :DD Car is the only real way to get around.  Even the bus system doesn't work right here.  You people from the other side of the sea would have such a hard time here.

I like to walk but where I live, walking could get you killed as there are no crosswalks across local roads.

Considering how much work I put into my car, I have to vote for it! Seriously though, nothing beats a good drive for me.

I have to admit that I'm rather lucky to be living were I am with bicycle paths etc.

We do have to pay for our bikes to be on the road though.  It's only like six swiss francs but then it's worth it.

The six francs is like a one time registration fee, right?

No, it's yearly.

We have little stickers.  I will try to post my bike and show.:)

Ah, like my parking stickers. I pay about $20 a year for them.

Being a person who takes the subway almost every day, I put down "train", knowing that for the amount of energy used per passenger, train transportation is very efficient. When it comes to being on time, that's another story. The subways in New York seem to run on an unknowable schedule that rarely matches up with the stated times.

Car. None of the others come close. They're all slow!

And I have no idea what a 'space hopper' is.

This is a space hopper.

As for my ideal method of travel, at the moment I can only say car because that's how I get around most of the time at the moment.

Well I walk around campus, but to get to the mall I use the bus. I don't have a car so I'm out of luck there.

Due to me not having a Driver's License, I take the bus and, to be honest, I like it a lot.  Sure, I have to work with the schedules and all, but it's worth it.

I even have to get off at a stop that's 20 minutes away from work.  So I walk quite a bit.  Plus, with how much more walking and lifting my job involves, you could probably call me one of the healthiest people on this forum.

Seriously, my mode of transportation may have very well increased my life-span by quite a bit. :)

Car's the worst possible transportation method for an overpopulated city such as Moscow. Instead of spending hours in traffic jams, you should buy a ticket to the underground. :)
BTW, why there is no planes on the list?

Because I think the transport Saft was thinking of is not over huge distances.. I dunno if I'd take the plane if I could use the train as well o.o

What the?!  A broomstick did not make the list?!  How am I supposed to mark anything here then?!  Just kidding :lol.

I voted walking, since this is meant to be an "ideal" vote.  I love walking.  Unfortunately, I attend school in the next city so I must commute, and we don't have a lightrail system here yet.  I also like to take road trips, so I have to say I like having an automobile :yes.

For me, it's between a car and walking.  Walking cause everything is in walking distance, even town, takes only 15 minutes or so to get in there.  And car....to head out of town mainly and to places of the city where it will take too long to walk to.

Me? I just teleport. Sure, there's the occasional lost limb, blindness, motion sickness, insanity, itchiness, turning into a bowl of petunias, unconsciousness, gender swap, loss of bladder control, time travel, rashes in odd places, loss of hair, loss of clothing, loss of virginity, and death... but it sure beats driving :p

In all seriousness, I rarely ever drive. Down here in Tassie, petrol is expensive. I mean, really, it's ridiculous. Living in the country, cheap fuel is hard to come by... I feel like I'm in a Mad Max movie half the time (it helps that my car looks like something out of one of those movies).

So yeah, if I have to be somewhere... I stay in town and ride, or take the bus. Heck, I sometimes walk, because it's good for you.

I'd have to say that the type of transport has to reflect the distance that need be travelled. I've only just recently acquired a car so before that I pretty much just walked everywhere. Great if the sun is out and you don't have a load to carry but not so good when the British weather decides "it's been sunny enough...time for some rain for no reason!"  :lol Same rules apply to biking.

To be really honest. I really like flying. I love getting in a plane to see new countries I've never seen before. Again, assuming the distance I have to travel is great enough, I'd jump in a plane any day ;)

You like flying? As in, actually taking the stick and flying the tin cans around?

I've done simulators for 747s, which are pretty cool. But once a couple of years ago, I got to fly as a co-pilot in a jet fighter, and I damn near peed my pants.

I'd never do it again, ever.

The reason behind why I didn't put aero-planes on the poll list is because it's not something (unless you have a private jet) that you use to travel with daily.

For example, I use my bike daily...it's my ideal method of transportation even though as Mumbling pointed out there are some cons but it's got many pros aswell.

And as to space hoppers...gee..you'd be suprised what you see here.:p

(Forgive me CT, I should have included broomsticks.;) )

Car....most ideal for a 20-mile drive to and from work.  No bus will do it, no rail lines to move passengers, so unless you bike it or walk it, car is the only practical means over backroads and through the small communities on the way.

Usually my ideal method of transport is by car.  However if it’s nearby me, I usually walk there (unless it’s raining, in which I take the car).

Trains, obviously. They're quite convenient and relaxing. If only the US had infrastructure up to par...
