1988 Theatrical Release / If The Land Before Time came out in 3D
« on: February 21, 2011, 04:21:20 PM »
I opt out of 3D since it usually makes me feel a little sick to watch an entire movie that way. So, I don't think I would see it in 3D even if they ever considered it. In the same note with what's "cool" today, I much prefer traditional hand drawn animation to cgi. Since "The Princess & the Frog" there have been no more traditional animated projects. This really upsets me...perhaps more are in the works? Now don't get me wrong, ANY movie can be great...it's the STORY and the CHARACTERS that should take top priority. I LOVE some of Pixar's works, despite the cgi medium. I saw Toy Story 3 last summer, loved it. The type of animation doesn't matter as much as the story...but, I still feel there is something very special that traditional animation has that cgi just can't match up with. There's more of a personal connection between the artist, for one...and there's just something about the emotion in hand drawn that cgi has yet been able to get right. LBT or any of the "classics" in cgi would just NOT feel the same...

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / The Biggest Mistakes of the TV Series
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:08:21 AM »
I know this is an older topic but I missed out on my input and just feel like poking in. To be perfectly honest, I have always had some nitpicks with (most of) the sequels and the tv series. I adore the original 1988 movie, a true classic of animation...but I have always felt as if they made the series geared too much towards younger kids. The characters seemed to act younger than they were, or should have been. I mean, they seemed somehow more mature, but still very child like, in the original movie. The story itself was more mature in comparison, but maybe that has a lot to do with the singing and obvious moral lessons of the sequels/tv show. :lol

I do love some of the sequels, but they can't compare to the original movie in my opinion. It's not just LBT, no way. I have the same feelings about a lot of sequels/series based on classic movies (don't even get me started on "The Secret of Nimh 2" lol) Anyway, I think the TV series in particular was aimed at a younger fanbase of children and that's sad, since I think it had a lot of potential. If I remember correctly, they used to have it on during what was once a very "preschool" lineup of programs (including baby looney tunes, mr men, etc) so that may have been their target all along. I think some older kids would have enjoyed and appreciated it, though.

It's hard to remember how things have changed...kids today are in such a rush, they rarely get to sit and watch cartoons the way a lot of us did. They rarely get a chance to run around and just be kids...I find it said, honestly. Remember the days of "saturday morning cartoons"? I always used to watch cartoons before school. I just couldn't focus if I hadn't watched "The Legend of White Fang" in the morning! Kids are in such a hurry to grow up these days. Then when they do they'll miss it all too much (I know I do)  :cry
and with that, I'm reminded of one of my fav songs from "The Jungle Cubs"..."take your sweet, sweet time! :nyah

I've never really thought about what kind of dinosaur I might see myself as, although I do have a a few "personas/fursonas" aka personal characters. A wolfdog, a scruffy mutt and a little rat. I suppose if I were to picture myself as a dinosaur I would hav to say velociraptor. They've been my fav since I was a kid! Although, considering the fact that I'm a vegetarian maybe I should pick something else...LOL  :rolleyes

1988 Theatrical Release / The Land Before Time Versus The Lion King
« on: February 20, 2011, 04:17:52 AM »
I always wondered about the hyenas too...realistically speaking, hyenas and lions ARE natural enemies. I always thought TLK portrayed them somewhat poorly though. Hyenas are not just scavengers, in fact they're more likely to hunt their own prey. Sometimes lions steal and scavenge from them. The hyenas were originally meant to be African Wild Dogs in TLK. I think they changed this because of the fact that lions & hyenas are common rivals. I imagine that if lions really had "control" over the lands they would chase off their rivals...but then, lions don't care much for cheetahs or any other animals they view as "competition" either, but one of the first animals we see in the intro is a cheetah. :lol

Having said that, I must also say that TLK is one of my all time favs...it's certainly one of the "classics of animations" and one of my personal tops. I remember when it first came out, unlike when LBT came out, with TLK I was old enough to really remember the theatre experience. It was perhaps the most epic movie of my childhood, and still a most loved classic. :smile

Well, some of you might remember me...it's been a while, I know! I used to frequent these forums back in 07/08 or sometime around there. I never meant to leave, but then I never do. Things just get chaotic in more ways than I care to mention.

What brings me back? Nothing can change the fact that I am still a loyal LBT & Don Bluth fan...and a huge lover of traditional animation in general. So, I would like to post again in the forums and stay as active as I can. Just join in the fandom community.

I'm sure my original introduction post is still on here somewhere (or on the old forums) but I don't feel like searching through all the pages for that right now lol. I haven't changed much, for those who remember me. I love animals and animation.

I think that's all I have to say for now. :p

Thanks!^^ You're more than welcome to join us in the tester on Furcadia. At the moment the map is just random, so we have a place to test the avatars and such, but there's enough room to walk around, see the avatars in action, portraits/art and get a feel for the general layout of the game.

Once you're in game, you can join me on one of my alts (Sharptooth, Chomper or Gitta). Just type `join *name of character here* to do so. If I'm not afk at the moment, I'll summon you.

I'd suggest logging in as rodent or musteline right now (saurolophus and pteranodon), since those're the two complete avatars. You can come as equine (triceratops) or ursine (tyrannosaurus), but there's only a few poses for them at the moment, so they walk funny (and shapeshift in some cases) . :lol

Thanks again for the comments, and thanks for posting the colors Tails!

Progress:
Here's some updates to let you all know how the game is progressing.
I'd like to thank Tails and my friend Penni for helping with some of the items and giving me suggestions and such along the way; for the supprt from everyone here, of course. :3

Avatars:

Ducky (walking): Complete.

Petrie (walking): Complete.

Ducky (swimming): In the Works.

Petrie (flying): In the Works.

Cera: Four Poses Set.

Chomper: Three Poses Set.

Littlefoot: Sketchy in the Works.

Spike: Sketchy in the Works.

Portraits:

Ducky: Complete.

Petrie: Complete.

Chomper: Complete.

All others in the works. You guys are welcome to make portraits too (or anything else you might like to add), so my art isn't the only artwork showing up in the game :lol
A size 35x35 pixel art would work for this game screen (just let me know if you'd like more information, since portraits (and pretty much any in game art) has to be a certain color for it to work (Furc's standard colors).

Game Title/Scenery: Complete
(That's the thing with Littlefoot, Chomper and the gang of five at the top)

Panels: In the Works

Smiles: Complete

Here's a picture to show you what all this means/looks like
(don't mind my strange sense of humor :p):

Lots of pixel work...lots of pixel work, but it's coming along...lol.

Character Discussion / Chomper
« on: March 06, 2008, 12:21:08 PM »

Is there any episode which explains why all of a sudden none of the grownups has a problem with Chomper in the Great Valley?

There's another thing that confuses me about the series...it's all too sudden, as if you're just suppose to accept it and not question (I can't do that ;p). I would think at least some, if not all, of the grown ups would have some kind of concern about it at first. Most especially characters like Cera's father, who one might call a "speciest" (I know I've seen that phrase somewhere here ;P); if he has trouble accepting other 'non three horns' then a sharptooth? Although I do remember a scene in "The Lonely Journey" where he says something along the lines of "I'm not any kind of food" to Chomper after he and Spike bump into him; that's the most I've seen of anything like that. There was also the family (forget what species) who during the 'great giving' celebration seem uneasy (the mother pulls her children away from Chomper saying something like "Come children, it isn't safe to play around sharpteeth"), so obviously not  all the grown ups are comfortable with or accepting of him. We get subtle hints, but thus far no full explanation or episode/movie explaining the numerous questions the tv series brings with it. I know the main focus is for small children, but I think most kids with even half an attention span would wonder why all of a sudden Chomper is in the Great Valley (I know I would pick up on things like that as a kid...then again, I was more obsessive about my 'toons than most kids. :lol)

As for the relationships between Chomper and the gang, I forgot to mention something in my other post. Something that really reminds me of this topic, in that the story focuses on the exact same type of thing. Has anyone seen "One Stormy Night"? It's a japanese animated movie in which a wolf and a goat unintentionally become friends, and the struggles that come with such a friendship. In many scenes where Gabu (the wolf) is very hungry, he's shown quite literally having an inner battle with instinct to keep himself from viewing Mei (the goat) as something...other than a friend. Gabu doesn't 'turn vegetarian' either though, and in fact in one scene is shown returning to Mei after 'having some dinner' (sneaking off to do so away from his friend), to which Mei reacts harshly to. Conflict comes up between their herd and pack, and well...I won't say too much more of the story in case you guys  haven't seen it. I highly recommend it though. You an find it with english subtitles on youtube (surprisingly); here's the first ten minutes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj3m1oJwTQE I'm sure you can find the others easily enough ;)) To sum it up, I would love to see something along those lines shown in LBT.

I always found it a touch funny that all the dinosaurs (save for Cera's father) of the Great Valley would change their views so fast (remember Littlefoot's mother saying "We all keep to our own kind" and "Well, because we're different. It's always been that way." at the time his grandparents didn't seem to protest with this viewpoint; obviously it's long accepted.) unless the children teaming together to find their way to the valley really inspired all of them that much. When they first arrive in the valley, it seems the dinosaurs are all standing with their own kind, so it would surprise me if everyone just suddenly accepted a new point of view and tolerance (for some, it's easier; not everyone can change long accepted views so quickly though). Even if after time more and more of them became more open minded, accepting a predator is very different than accepting other types of herbivores, so yeah...they best give us an explanation to that eventually because it'll keep nagging at me.  :DD

LBT Projects / Foreign versions of songs...
« on: March 06, 2008, 04:40:38 AM »
Here's a little update for you all, managed to get some more songs from LBT 5 and 10. No Spanish yet, sorry Tails.  LBT 5 songs are Polish and LBT 10 songs are Czech. I'm pretty certain I have the languages right this time ( ) but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm keeping the collection of songs in they're own folder now.

Link:
http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj139/a...lf/LBT%20Songs/

I think "Best of Friends" and "Always There" sound lovely, but then those songs make my eyes watery no matter what language they're in (or who's singing them), probably because I connect to them for personal reasons. I also think Chomper's Polish voice is cute, plus that song is just so catchy. :lol

Update: Got the French versions of the songs from LBT 2 now too. You'll see them at the top in the songs folder. ;p

I've heard of this, but never done anything like it myself; so my knowledge about it is very minimal. I'm used to RPG styles using paragraph length posts (probably the most common type online). It sounds like fun though, I'd just have to learn more first (and I also have way too many things to keep up much of the time :lol)

Character Discussion / Chomper
« on: March 04, 2008, 12:30:19 PM »
Hah, I think everyone pretty much said everything here. :lol  I would love to see a 'grown up' movie honestly, and some darker themes more like the original had. Honestly, as I've stated elsewhere the original is my main reason for loving LBT, some of the sequels and especially the series (what I've seen of it) just weird me out. I do  love Chomper though and think his character has great potential, if the original writers and producers had control (or interest) again perhaps we might see something more, but as it is I don't think it's very likely. If they were to do something along those lines and somehow kept it as innocent as it is now, they'd probably just overlook the majority of these issues. Make something up that somehow a trex can stay healthy and happy with just insects (perhaps fish too, as someone mentioned. Not logical, but it wouldn't surprise me.
This makes me think of something else strange they did with Chomper. Just why do they give him three claws? Tyrannosaurus rex had two. He only has two in LBT 2, so why change it? I'm pretty sure all other sharpteeth just have two. o.O I always draw him with two. He's a Trex; to my knowledge has no weird growths so...two claws/fingers. :p Also, how was he able to swim up from the ocean ("can't swim with those scrawny arms", to quote. I know Littlefoot rescues him, but before that it sure looks like he's swimming up towards the surface. Possible? Who knows... Ah, look at me rant. :lol)

Right now in the tv show, Chomper is playing "Simba", so to speak, something I always found a touch confusing too. How could a lion grow up so strong with just insects? We can only assume this is all Simba has during his time in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa. We can also guess he returns to regular prey after assuming his place as king. This is just an example, but we never see much of the conflict and uneasy feelings that would obviously show up there either. Of course, he wouldn't turn on his friends either and I think the same is true for Chomper. It would make for some major tension, though. Challenge friendships. All that good stuff that makes for an intriguing story. ;p

I'm looking too much into the tv series here too (and that confuses me enough as it is, it brings up far too many questions: How'd they get off the island, for starters). Just looking at the two movies in which Chomper appears in (especially the 5th), it implies that not only is Chomper eating meat, that his parents are likely teaching him how to hunt (why else was he stalking the gang, prior to recognizing them. When we first see a zoom in on his eyes, they're obviously narrowed, and from the look of things he had every intention of hunting).
Yet again, just looking at the movies, it seemed that insects were fine as a baby (and remember, as a hatchling Chomper showed 'interest' in Petrie, and instinct seemed to kick in at the sight of Cera's tail), but I'd think a growing tyrannosaurus (the age he is in the 5th movie/the series) could use a little something more. At the very least, his parents bringing him things or allowing him to share at 'meal time' (much like young wolves and lions). That gets us into the behavior of certain species though; I saw a neat show on Saturday that said some scientists now think Trex may have traveled in family groups, even packs so to speak.

Ah, I'm sure there was something else I meant to say here...but for now let me just say, great points made...now lets get to work on some fan fics/comics/artwork, since they're very likely the only way we'll see some of this cool stuff.

I found a version of the third movie in French, and got some vids of the three songs from it.

French:
When You're Big
Standing Tough
Kids Like Us

You can find them all here:

Enjoy.^^ I'm keeping my eye out for any others; I'll add any that I find to the gallery there.

Also, when I was looking through some links that I'd visited from a while ago, I found the Dutch version of "If We Hold on Together". The link to it is here:

1988 Theatrical Release / You Just Burst My (Happy) Bubble Don! :-(
« on: March 03, 2008, 05:51:17 PM »
I couldn't agree more that this is a real shame; like many others I would've loved to see some of this footage. I'm curious just what was 'too scary' for children and why (okay I admit, Sharptooth did scare me some as a young child (originally saw the movie in 1988 when I was three ;p), but it's suppose to have that effect. That's what made the movie so 'on the edge of your seat' fun. ^^ I always loved the 'darker' feel of many of Bluth's movies, it gives them more emotion and makes the characters all the more real, IMO.

I'm certain we won't get to view this footage now, and for those of us who most especially love the original classic (*raises hand*) that's truly an upset. I always find myself sneaking back to rewatch scenes from the original to catch little things (I pay too much attention to stuff^^;; ) and just...get the feeling of it again, if that makes any sense. I think most of us could agree that the first movie has a very different and unique feel; just...not like the sequels. They just can't compare (no offense to them, the original is always tops for me though). I've often found myself wondering just how the original writers would've managed a sequel. Given the creative freedom that they perhaps didn't have full access to even with the first movie, I think it would've turned out very different. ;)

There is one thing that, if there are any animators among us, we could do. Check this out...
http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs5/f/2004/334/...Sync_Nov_24.mov
I found this very intriguing, and my applause to the artist. They truly did some amazing work here.^^ Anyways, the point? If any of us are knowledgeable
in animating, perhaps we could 'create' those scenes, given the little information and glimpses we have from various sources. Just add to it.
I know, it's a stretch; the most animation I've managed myself are simple frames (and some gif animations); example: http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs21/f/2007/270...y_akikowolf.gif :lol Practice, practice though! Who knows. Just a suggestion.^^ Another, and much easier, form to 'create' such 'footage' is a comic or drawing; a fan fiction even. Not the same effect, but lovely all the same.^^

We have our imaginations no matter what.  :^.^:

Ooh, I love this! Listening to music you love in other languages is always fun, I think. ^^ I really like the French version of "It Takes All Sorts" (French is always nice ;p). I'm pretty sure I remember hearing "If We Hold on Together" in Spanish or something a while ago...just can't think of what site it was at (or the exact language, I'm guessing Spanish ^^;; ) If I find anything I'll post it here, and thanks for sharing those!

WoW has amazing graphics (yes, I play :lol ) but I wouldn't have a clue how to start making something like that...my artwork is typically hand drawn (and usually hand colored too) and 3D gaming programs are a mystery to me.^^;; I've always thought a game like WoW, just where you can play as the animals (so much cooler than humans; thus why I play a druid, at least ) sounded great. Even better if it's characters and a world we know and love.^^

I know what you mean about the size, honestly I'm surprised WoW plays on my computer...even Zoo Tycoon makes it lag sometimes. Somehow WoW usually loads pretty well though.

That's just about right, Tails! (of course you already know, we talked in messenger ;) ), the only thing not right is just a couple hues of the main coat coloring (greys). I'm posting this as a helping tool for everyone...

The colors with white circles around them are "Furcadia's standard colors"; making an avatar or portrait those colors in FSHeditor makes them show up in game as whatever the player's colors are.

LBT Projects / My LBT Fan Videos
« on: March 01, 2008, 07:22:13 AM »
Well, just in case some of you haven't seen the LBT video I made last year, here's the link to that for starters:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=J4_qUjEPD5w it's a general fan mv for the original movie. ;)

My two newest are uploaded to photobucket since youtube is giving me a lot of lag recently. So you can find those two here...

Cera:
http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj139/a...urrent=cera.flv

Classics:
http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj139/a...nt=classics.flv

The first is a character mv about Cera (I plan to (eventually) make mvs for all the characters...just gotta find the perfect songs for 'em  :lol I'm not sure why that song just...clicked as fitting her to me ), while the second is a tribute to three of Bluth's animation classics (and personal tops of mine, one of which is LBT ;) ).

Is it okay to just let you all know of any new vids I make in this post, instead of making new posts each time (since I have a feeling there'll be more soon, I'm on a roll...lol^^; I just think that sounds less...spammy. )

Slight Update: Here's a Chomper mv ;p
http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj139/a...ent=chomper.flv
Using scenes from the original, second and fifth movies. The original
sharptooth is shown as a play on how Littlefoot and the others must think of Chomper at first, stirring up memories so to speak. I know not
every lyric fits (some just sound plain weird ^^;; ), but the lyrics that do fit outweigh those, IMO. Anyways, there's the next chapter in the 'character' mvs. :^.^:

PS: Anyone else notice the comparisons with some scenes involving the original Sharptooth and Chomper? Maybe I just pay way to much attention to things.
The vines, for example: Littlefoot getting caught in them when running from Sharptooth and when running from Chomper. Just a little something I keep noticing. :p
