Land Before Time RP: The Herd

I am planning on starting a land before time RPG which focuses on what life would be like in a herd or herds belonging to various dinosaurs, set within the land before time world. If anyone has any ideas or wishes to join, please post that information in this thread. I will add more information later.

Okay, I'm back. The idea is in the early planning stage, but can take shape very quickly. My idea was to have a herd of dinosaurs of a certain species, or several herds of different species be role-played, but set in the land before time universe with the idea that typical things that dinosaurs would have to deal with would be addressed.

Would it be like the first movie, where they are headed to the Great Valley, or another Valley?

Would it be Oc's only? some Fc's, only certain fc's?

Some characters could come from the movies, but the idea is to create one's own characters as the main actors.

And it can be set at any time, although I was thinking of starting a migratory herd.

Some fc's could join the oc herd temporarily or longer. Pterno could. If there are any longnecks in the herd, oc or otherwise, Saro could join temporarily since he is a story speaker. Just some ideas for folks who prefer playing fc's intead of making their own oc, though I have fun with both oc and fc.

Do you have a plot in mine where the rp will end, or more like a series of things that happen?

I guess it is pure lbt with no magic, super powers, ect.

Pure land before time, no magic, no super powers, nothing of that sort.

As it is, the goal is to make a herd as it would appear in the movie. I'm not sure if mixed herds would appear there, but if you really wanted a herd consisting of different kinds of dinosaurs, that is okay with me.

And a plot... well, one will take shape in time, but at first, it will be sort of just a series of events, guided by the motivations of a herd of dinosaurs.

There have been mixed herds before and the players may prefer that since they can play a dino they like instead of being forced to all be just 1 type.

That is a good idea; although my original solution to that problem was to have multiple herds, a mixed herd can definitely work.

I was just thinking what would be most fun for the maximum number of folks. A mixed herd they could play a different type of dino instead of everyone having to be the same type. & they have shown mixed herds before so they do exist. Maybe not as common as single type herds, but there are some.

Another rp or plot possibility is that later on in the rp they could maybe encounter Ali or Skippy's herd, Bron's herd, Doc & Dara, or certain other fc's.

Up to you. I just assumed some may enjoy a Longneck char, someone else a flyer, threehorn, and other types, ect instead of being forced to be just 1 type only.

I have an idea...

I like the thought of several different herds each with their own species traveling the Mysterious Beyond. Now here is where my idea comes into play...

The five or six herds eventually meet (all by accident) As they are searching for a safe place to call home. (And no it doesn't have to be the Great Valley, it just seems...played out.) But as the herds are trying to decide where to go, they all begin to argue; each herd believing they have the right path to follow.

And that's as far as my idea goes...

Sounds interesting, and yeah either starting out muti-herded or having each seperate herd meet could work, I'll be using known OC's just for anyone who's interested but they aren't necessarily tied in with the played out Great Valley trip as elsewhere, I mean alternate universes are completely fun!

All that just to say that from the thoughts I've had they can fit in with either scenario.

Does anyone here think that a poll would resolve the matter? Both ideas, multi-herd or one herd, each have merits. All of the ideas you've contributed are really good, and if there is a way to implement them all (or find a suitable compromise) I will do that.

I suppose I could always make two RPs, one which is multi-herd, and another which is single herd...

Or they start out like the ones in the LBT movie did, start out separately and then merge into 1 multi kind of herd. They could be heading to the Great Valley, before or after the movie, by decades or more. Or they could be heading to another place with some other name. They Yellowbellies were heading to one and got there and I think Doc mentioned there are other places also.

The tricky thing is, we see mixed herd AND single-species herds in the land before time series. Mixed herds appear in one (as you said) in movie five (although they had threatened to split up) and in seven; most others are single-species (movies 4, 8, 13, and the default before movie one ended, plus some others which I might have missed.)

Do what you want. I was just mentioning an option that may keep the most folks happy who may be interested in rping with the rp, being able to be more then just 1 type of dinosaur I'll not argue & doubt I"ll look at this thread since it feels like you are trying to argue. It takes 2 to argue so I"ll do the harder thing and just leave the thread.

Why do you see arguing every time someone suggests something different than what you said? I am not arguing here, just laying out all of the options... I haven't even started the RP yet, and may not do so for some time...
