Title: School
Post by: landbeforetimelover on September 03, 2007, 03:01:08 PM
I was just wondering when school started for all of us members who are still drudging through it.  School starts tomorrow for me.  That's September 4th.  I'm so sad now.  Soon, I'll only be able to spend about 5 hours a day on LBT projects. :(  :cry

I'm not going to school anymore but I spend the equivalent amount of time doing research on careers.  This next week, with school starting, really won't affect my schedule at all.

5 hours a day?  You put me to shame! :lol  I don't know how you can regularily devote that much time, Consistantly, to LBT.

I already posted this in Petrie's topic in After Midnight, but I'll post it again here: Sometime after Labor Day is what I was told. So, my summer is really winding down for me.

Oh, I make tons of LBT projects that I never post on GOF.  Most of them take hours, but the finished result is nothing spectacular most of the time.  It's mainly just screwing around having fun with LBT stuff and expressing my passion.  Heck, my avatar took nearly four hours alone and my previous one of Littlefoot walking took nine hours.  My green gif animation bar in my signature advertizing my LBT site took over 2 hours and the blue one took about 40 minutes.  I'm constantly making LBT stuffl :lol

I have been attending college through out the entire summer, but thanks in a large part to the recent hospital stay....which I won't go into.......bought me two weeks from school!

And trust me I needed the break......going to college year-round takes it's toll on you! :^.^:

Hehe!  No school for me!  But for my little brother, who's in his last year of High School, it started last Monday, one week from Labor Day.

Might I suggest to anyone around here to use LBT in some of your future projects you're bound to have?  Wouldn't hurt to use it to help get a good grade now would it? ;)

I don't go to school anymore either, but when I did, it always started on the last monday of August, and ends sometime in June (depends on how many snowdays we got). On a full day, we have to wake up at least by 6:00 AM to get ready but we don't have to be in the classroom until 7:50 AM I think. Then we get dismissed from school at 2:25 PM. Those who can drive or have a ride can leave. Those who have to get on the bus have to, of course, find their designated bus and wait until around 2:30-2:35 before the busses leave and drop us off at home.

On half days, it's the same time getting to school, but we get dismissed at 12:30 PM I believe. On 2 hour delays, we don't have to be in the school until 9:50 I believe. And on days when the weather gets bad, it's usually at 1:30 we're dismissed, not sure. On the last week or two of school, the days are cut short and we get dismissed at 11:30 AM. Lunch is no longer served at this point. On the very last school day (which we do not need to attend), we only stay until 10:30 AM. This day is mandatory for middle-schoolers but for high-schoolers, this day is optional. It's just a socializing day where you can meet and talk with your friends, sign year books, all that.

I'm at school these very days. At the moment I'm taking an internship at a school so I'm the teacher at least in some lessons. However, I must say that it is definitely not my job choice. From next semester on I will go for a more scientific degree abandoning any plans for school as an alternative to university. Regular university lectures will start again by mid october.

I started school last Wednesday.  This year is going to be more laid back with Study hall, Yearbook, Learning Lab(which is basically another study hall), Art 2, English, American Conflict History, and Algebra2/Trig.  I'm starting my Junior year and I have only two years of school left.  Then I'm taking a year off before going to college and attending film school.

Same as DarkHououmon I do not go to the school or in my case university either. I have two employments that absorb practically all my time. One as Computer Technician  and other in a shop of video games. That’s not mean that I don’t have to study because I have to study pretty hard to get my certifications of A+ and Microsoft IT certification. In the nights I spend some time in the forum and in my work when there are no customers.

As I've been told by my teachers:

"You might not like school now. But when you graduate and learn how harsh it is in the real world, and how tough it is to get a job and earn money to support yourself, you're going to WANT to go back to school."

..and they were right. I sometimes long to be back in the school years. I never thought how boring it would be to do nothing but stay at home and use the computer, watch tv, or play video games all day long.

I'm home-schooled, so I don't have to go through the "second hell" known as [public] school around these parts. It may be a bit boring at times, but for me, Algebra and Chemistry can be fun at times, as well as those reading assignments in English.

Get a grip people. School often is a nasty piece of work, but honestly, what would each of you become without some basic education? At university the amount of work is larger but a lot more tolerable for me due to the fact that most of the time I study what I WANT to study evading my least popular subjects such as math.

It is time we grow used to the idea that we don't live on a planet with us as the only inhabitant. It is also time to grow used to the idea that not all of our planet's inhabitants are kind people and that not all of them share our views or interests. Most important of all we have to grow used to the realization that not sharing our views or interests does NOT make people bad people. But to grow used to all that we have to learn it and to learn it we have to be around people. What atrophied beings are we going to be if the we abandon all attempts to acquire some social competence?

I was never able to get into Spanish.  I could only remember so little no matter how hard I tried.  All I know of Spanish is 1-10, hello, goodbye and cat.  That's it!

I was even more greif striken at a point when I was about to go into my final year of High School.  I had yet to take a class in another language and explained to my counsler just how hard it was for me to learn another language.  You wouldn't believe my relief when he told me that there was an alternate high school degree that didn't require learning another language.  I was quite happy and took the classes that were required for me to avoid learning another language.  If you ask me, it was completely worth it. :^.^:

Something for the non-native English speakers - what were your reactions to learning English?  Enjoyable?  Difficult?  English is supposedly the hardest language to learn due to inconsistencies within the language.

Post by: Manny Cav on September 07, 2007, 06:18:20 PM

I find spanish to be extremely difficult, French to be harder, and japaneese to be impossible :P:

I've taken all three, I've hated all three. :(
Title: School
Post by: DarkHououmon on September 07, 2007, 09:18:15 PM
Japanese is more difficult because it's structured completely differently from English, Spanish, French, etc. Not to mention it uses symbols instead of letters. I can read Katakana symbols, but that's about it.

I've been told that Spanish is the easiest foreign language to learn. I know a tiny bit of Spanish myself, more than Japanese that's for sure. But I forgot much of what I learned. It was fun though. We got to watch Spanish cartoons at the end of the first year. :p

Oh, I can speak lots of spanish, I just say words in sentances backwards and I just end up sounding rediculous.  I've never been able to say stuff in sequence with spanish.  I'd say something like:

Milk please the pass

Instead of:

Pass the milk please.

I'm hopeless :(

It's been a while since I've spoken any kind of spanish. All I remember about the sentence structure is that... well instead of "I have a very fat dog." it would be "I have a dog very fat." Noun comes first, then adjectives, verbs, and adverbs, if I recall correctly.

I wouldn't know any sentance structure.  I took spanish in 6th grade, but I got some sorta terrible bug that took me out for 2 weeks straight and I totally skipped that lesson. :(

English was the first subject in which I really sucked
After primary school it was quite a shock for me to realize that I could actually get a 5 (this is a grade which will force a student to repeat a class if you have more than one on your final grade report of the year).
Later on I was about average if it came to English, I was certainly not good in the subject. I did realize however, that basically English is A LOT easier than German or Latin (my second foreign language) as it lacks quite a number of basically unnecessary rules. Also I never ever had to ask myself "gee, what do I need this for anyway?". I always was aware what English was good for and this impression became even stronger when we got an internet connection (in 1997) and when I grew more interested in subjects which required me to read English books. Furthermore I am not exaggerating when I say that I was fascinated by English and American history even in my primary school days before I could even speak English (the first English vocabularies I learned were all taken from the names of famous native American chiefs: sitting, bull, red, horse, cloud, crazy, horse, rain, face, afraid, low, dog, eagle, crow, big, little, man, etc. :lol). Therefore I always had a kind of positive basic attitude towards learning English (which did not necessarily reflect on my effort to actually work for it at all times) which is not true in case of subjects which I felt I would never ever need in real live (especially Math in the higher grades).

I got a 'U' grade for my animation course and main exam  :cry2  But i wasn't really that surprised as the teacher knew nothing about animation and if it wern't for my determination and help from animation books i would've got nowhere. The only good thing was i9 got a free animation software disc. but i realised that the software is rubbish so i'm gonna see about getting a better one and get a part time job.  :)
