I want to guess "Is it a Termite?" but I'm not going to because we've wasted almost all our questions on specific bug species. People, when you want to guess a type of bug, instead guess a question that would confirm your guess, and knock out a bunch of others at the same time. Take my actual question, which is:

"Does this species have a queen?"

(This question knocks out termites and bees and a few others, instead of just termites.)

3 questions left... to recap:

-It is an insect.

-It flies when it is an adult.

-Can annoy people when it is an adult.

-Not a colonizing insect (not a bee, wasp, hornet, ant, or termite)

-Not a grasshopper, locust, cicada, mantis, cricket, or mosquito either.

-Lives underground for most of its life.

Is it a kind of beetle?

2 questions left. We're probably not going to guess it... insects are a good choice of animal in this game, as there are so many kinds of them...

It is a decomposer? Meaning it eats dead things?

Another breakdown:

-It is an insect.

-It flies when it is an adult.

-Can annoy people when it is an adult.

-Not a colonizing insect (not a bee, wasp, hornet, ant, or termite)

-Not a grasshopper, locust, cicada, mantis, cricket, dragonfly, or mosquito either. (dang, we wasted a lot of votes)

-Not a type of beetle.

-Lives underground for most of its life.

I'm not guessing. I have no clue.

Last guess... crane fly. It flies as an adult, spends most of its life underground, is not a colonizing insects, is NOT a locust, cricket, grasshopper, dragonfly, beetle, or cicada, and it can certainly annoy people.

Even if it meets the criteria, I could still be wrong if you picked another one that matches what you said. I also thought it could be a kind of moth...

To recap: Crane fly. Final answer.

Sorry!

The answer is...

The antlion. :)

Now, some of you are thinking of the one that digs traps in the sand and are saying that I lied.  Well, not really.  You see, the truth of the matter is that the one form of antlion everyone knows is the larval form of the particular insect.  It does indeed spend most of it's life underground.  However, when it's time, it forms a cocoon of sand and silk.  After only a few weeks, it comes out as an adult, flies off to find a mate, and then after mating, it never eats again.

During the time it searches for a mate, it most likely eats pollen or nectar, but some still prey on the insects they hunted in their larval form. (They actually eat more than ants.  Pretty much any insect that is foolish enough to get too close.)

Also, in some cases, if they land on a human, they deliver a small, bothersome bite.

Hehe!  Got you guys good, huh? :)
