35 years later, and the original has never lost its lovable charm with its young, precious, innocent cast of beloved dinosaurs of different kinds who banded together to become everyone's favorite dinosaur group.  Happy Star Day, Land Before Time, and I guess Happy Starday to all five of those lovable kids! :littlefoot:) :cerasus :duckyhappy :)petrie :spikeblush

Thanks for the Star Day wishes!  My birthday ended up being very small, but any birthday is happy with the traditional Reese's peanut butter ice cream cake!  :)petrie

:)petrie "Hey, everyone!  Meet me new flying friends!"

:littlefoot "Petrie sure has found some strange new friends."

:duckyhappy "Those friends look so amazing!  Yep, yep, yep!"

:cerasus "Very strange if you ask me.

 :spikenotamused "Hmm?"

Yep!  Another piece of crossover artwork, only this time around we have characters from THREE different universes!  Isn't diversity just wonderful?  :)petrie

I wanted to make a wallpaper for my new Samsung phone, only to discover a harsh truth that Samsungs don't have scrollable wallpapers, so I was forced to make a vertical version, hence why two versions exist here.

Petrie seemed like a seamless character from the Orig to Sequels. He always has been a favorite of mine. I would suggest I like him more in The Sequels since he has more development as a character.

^Same! I admit to not thinking much of Petrie prior to the seventh sequel, but after that and seeing him in more movies: I love that he has a dry sense of humor. He's not physically strong or all that agile since he's still a baby pterosaur, but he channels his inner Chandler from Friends every now and then.

Finally!  Someone who agrees with me!  :)petrie :petrieLOL

"DiddyK" comes from Diddy Kong, my all-time favorite fictional character, and "F1" comes from Formula 1, since I'm such an obsessive motorsport fanatic. :)petrie  Funnily enough, I was originally DiddyKF1Enthusiast on YouTube and a few other places for a while, but I later decided to shorten it to just "DiddyKF1" because I wanted a shorter name and it just ticked and stuck ever since! :petrieLOL

Have you ever considered writing a Diddy Kong fan fict on GOF?

I would prefer all my non-LBT fanfictions to just be on either FanFiction or DeviantArt.

Which is your favorite of the Donkey Kong Country Games?

Returns is the only one I've had playing experience with.  I was too young to experience the SNES days.

Land Before Time Captions / Why the long face?
« on: April 28, 2023, 12:30:16 AM »

:feelsbadman "Why the long face?  Did you hurt yourself during your morning flight?"

 :(petrie "You no wanna know."

12
But you called him a “cowardly flightless nobody” in the original and basically said that he was unlikeable before LBT 7. So being a smaller sidekick character meant nothing in 1-6?

Just to clarify that, he wasn't a "cowardly flightless nobody" in MY eyes, but rather in the eyes of most other characters except the Gang, particularly in Flyer society.  My unfinished Petrie prequel story goes all in on this, stating that Petrie's inability to fly would surely have been considered a shameful disgrace in the eyes of other Flyers prior to the events of the first movie.

13
How nice to see I inadvertently started a Petrie conversation. :)petrie

And, ... um, wow, am I really the only one who thought Petrie was better in the sequels?  Uh, that would certainly make me feel like an oddball.  :petrie

In a way, I see Petrie as a diamond in the rough, since I have a soft spot for smaller sidekick characters who get their occasional moment in the spotlight, which Petrie did in the 12th film.

Congratulations on completing this project.  :)littlefoot The time that this had to have taken, both for film watching and the resulting calculations, had to have been quite extensive.

The final totals do provide some interesting surprises.  I am not shocked that Ruby had the least screen time of the main gang as, if it wasn't for the 14th film, she would not have had any screen time at all.  Mama Swimmer breaking into the top ten (beating Chomper no less) was also quite the surprise to me.  Petrie making it into fourth place was also quite the comeback for him considering how starved for time he was in some of the early films.  Though I don't think there was any surprises in the top three.  Cera will be a bit mad about being shut out of 1st place, however.  :taunttroll

Thanks, rhombus!  This is definitely a project that made me sweat a lot.  As I said, this project took nearly a month for me to complete, and it is very interesting to see some cool surprises for some of these characters.  Even I originally didn't predict that Mama Swimmer would make it to the top ten, but Big Freeze provided a big boost that propelled her to the top ten, even managing to beat Chomper and take the #9 slot; quite a formidable feat.  In fact, Chomper almost didn't make the top ten after briefly losing 10th place to Guido after Great Day of the Flyers, but Journey of the Brave pulled him right back up to 10th.

And yes, we all need to give Petrie a big round of applause for his valiant comeback effort in the final four films, including his crowning achievement in Great Day of the Flyers (which I can't stress enough).  Stone of Cold Fire and Great Day of the Flyers were the only films I predicted Petrie would win medals in, but he obviously exceeded my expectations by soaring into plenty of scenes from the 11th film onward. :)petrie

Fourteen films, and yet Cera never stood a chance at winning Gold in any of them.  Playing second fiddle to Littlefoot seems to be all she's good at, and it now it's open for all of us to see. :ceramad

Statistics that many of us never realized we really wanted to see. Sure is good to see the final results at last. While I'm sure we all completely expected Littlefoot to win by a landslide, and the total results of the top 5 are perhaps what some of us might have expected, some of the more detailed movie-by-movie results sure provided some interesting observations. My personal favorite from all of this is how Chomper managed to reach 10th on the final list. No wonder he was the one former guest character to be made a main character for the TV series.

Speaking of which, I still would very much like to see you (or perhaps someone else if necessary) try this same project for all 26 episodes of the TV series, at least as its own list separate from this one. The episodic format allowed the spotlight to be shared more equally among all seven of the main characters. In fact, I am absolutely convinced that, going by the format used here, each of the Gang of Seven could get at least one gold medal, and I'd like to see for myself if that's true (I'm sure Cera would like for that to be proven for her sake ;) ). I'm not trying to insist that you start on it right away, but I just wanted to express how interested I am in seeing this project be extended to the TV series.

Chomper definitely proved himself to be top ten material, but he was briefly threatened by Guido after the 12th film.  Think about it; had Journey of the Brave not happened, Chomper would not have made the top ten.  Guido would have ended up in 10th place!   :ChomperOhhh :GuidoAAAAAHHHHHH

I mentioned this on the Discord server, but I may consider a separate screen time project for the TV series, but given how I just wore myself out with this project for the movies, I need time to replenish so I can find more creative ways to stay active on the forum whilst the VO for the 7th movie remains trapped in obscurity.  I mean, not like I can just grab my microphone and do random Petrie stuff!  I will probably wait until late spring or early summer to do a screen time project for the TV series.  I'm not ruling out the possibility, but I can't make any promises right now.

This is it!  It's time to hand out the BIG prizes!  Let's see who made the top three and earned the right to stand on the podium for this Land Before Time screen time project!

3RD

Yep, yep, yep!  Ducky earns a place on the podium by ranking in 3rd place with a total of 4 hours, 26 minutes and 41 seconds of screen time!  She started off the series by shockingly beating Cera for the Silver (to think that the late Judith Barsi got more screen time than Candace Hutson)!  However, that turned out to be a fluke for some time, as she would only beat Cera once more, and that, of course, was in Big Freeze, where she proceeded to beat EVERYONE, including Littlefoot, winning her one and only Gold medal and being the one who shattered Littlefoot's perfect run!  It was very nice to actually see her as the main character of a movie, as we see her relationship with Spike become strained and slowly deteriorate throughout the movie.  She gives him the cold shoulder in his presence, but she secretly begins to feel guilty.  However, she finally snapped when the Spiketails were getting ready for their departure, resulting in Spike leaving her to join Tippy and the other Spiketails.  She immediately regretted her actions in the aftermath, and she decided to take matters into her own hands by sneaking out to find her former foster brother, desperate to have him back.  Her misadventure only succeeded in her and the Gang finding a hot spring, which they brought their families to so they could relax and keep warm, and soon after her wish to have Spike back came true, resulting in a happy reunion in which Ducky was finally able to redeem herself.  I absolutely love Ducky, and she is my second favorite character in the series just behind Petrie.  She initially looked as though she would be a formidable opponent to Cera and battle it out for second place.  Sadly, though, Cera gradually pulled away from her, and after Great Longneck Migration (where she won would turned out to be her final medal), Petrie began his massive comeback run and so nearly came within striking distance of Ducky in a potential challenge to take her off the podium, but in the end, Ducky held on to third with all her might and earns the Big Bronze for this project! Yep, yep, yep! :duckyhappy

2ND

In 2nd place, taking the Big Silver for this project, is Cera!  She had a total of 4 hours, 53 minutes and 13 seconds of screen time, beating Ducky by over 25 minutes.  A character whom I HATED when the series began, she vastly improved during the sequels as she grew closer to Littlefoot and the others despite her father's low views on them, and she was more often than not the secondary character in most sequels.  She did still show her gruff side very often, but it was nowhere near as bad as it was when the series began.  She had her occasional clashes with Littlefoot, but always settled things down in the end.  Crazy fact: Cera was the ONLY character who placed in the top 3 in ALL 14 films, all because of Littlefoot failing to make the top 3 in Great Day of the Flyers.  Cera thus ended up with a perfect score of 14 medals, beating out Littlefoot's 13.  However, ... she never won a single Gold medal.  She was only ever in either 2nd place or 3rd place.  She only beat Littlefoot once, and yet in that one film where she DID beat him, she was in turn bested by both Petrie and Guido.  With eight Silvers and six Bronzes, Cera solidified her status as someone who would forever be in Littlefoot's shadow. :littlefoot:) :ceramad

And finally, our big winner ...

Drum roll, please!

1ST

And to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Littlefoot, the fearless, lovable Longneck leader of the Gang of Seven (formerly known as the Gang of Five) takes a massive landslide victory with a 14-film total of 6 hours, 47 minutes and 30 seconds, putting him ALMOST TWO HOURS ahead of Cera!  :littlefoot:)  Seriously, though, was there any doubt on who #1 would be?  No way!  We all knew Littlefoot would be #1 from the beginning, and he showed it, too.  It was as if the universe centered around him, and it even shows by his medal count.  Just look at how many Golds he won!  He won the Gold for every movie except Big Freeze and Great Day of the Flyers, the latter of which he failed to even make the top three and allowed Cera to win the medal count.  This brave, young Longneck was just ... EVERYWHERE (let me emphasize that, seeing how much screen time he had), always lending a helping hand to those in need while also satisfying his lust for adventure, earning great respect and admiration from all those around him.  Even I must admit that I adore Littlefoot as a character, as he was the one who really brought everyone into his prehistoric world, and he even brought many different kinds of kids together at a time when everyone always kept to their own kind.  His curiosity ultimately landed him four hard-earned friends on a quest to find the Great Valley, and he soon gained one more in a friendly Sharptooth, and years later yet another one when a pink Fast Runner who became said Sharptooth's caregiver also joined the Gang.  When the kids are in times of peril, their first instinct is to look up to Littlefoot for his leadership, and most of the time he leads them all to success.  By now, it would become clear that Littlefoot would undoubtedly grow up to become the next leader of the Great Valley when his grandparents eventually pass on.  With nearly seven hours of total screen time, Littlefoot had no competition, and sometimes he won his Gold medals in dominating fashion, even a few of them being won by a margin of around ten minutes!  So, here stands Littlefoot on the top step of the podium! :littlefoot:)

And with that, that is the end of my Land Before Time screen time experiment!  I had a lot of fun working on this project!  It took me almost a month to get all the numbers, but I'm sure glad I pulled off a productive start to 2023 after this forum suffered such a horrendously inactive 2022.  Massive thanks to all of you who supported me on this project, and hopefully one of these days we can get our Stone of Cold Fire voiceover moving along again.  Roles are still plentiful!

That's all for now, though.  Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other, and I just might be back with another possible way to keep 2023 productive!  Peace! :)petrie

Alright!  Here we are; the top ten!  It's time to meet the most prominent of all the Land Before Time characters (aside from the top three, whom I'm saving for the final post)! :)petrie

Ranks 10-4

How absolutely fitting that we begin the top ten with the friendliest Sharptooth around!  Chomper ranks in 10th place with a total of 25 minutes and 16 seconds of screen time, covering three movies.  Chomper is the ONLY member of the Gang of Seven who was actually born in the Great Valley, but this was because the Gang hatched him by accident after finding whom they mistakenly believed to be one of Ducky's unborn siblings.  From the moment he hatched, he quickly grew close to Littlefoot and began to look up to him as a big brother figure, but alas they had to go their separate ways because of Chomper being a Sharptooth (whom were not allowed in the Great Valley).  They did have a much-awaited reunion in Mysterious Island, but again this was short-lived, as the Gang grew wary of Chomper due to him being a Sharptooth.  Littlefoot's rescue of Chomper following an attack by the previously-mentioned Plated Sharptooth earned the respect of his parents, and this would play a role in Chomper ending up back in the Great Valley a long time later, when, in the TV series, he and Ruby moved to the Great Valley following an agreement made between their two families after an attack by Red Claw.  I still don't understand fully how the valley dinosaurs were convinced to allow him and Ruby to live in the valley, but they must have been told about their backstories.  That, along with Chomper's history with the Gang being brought up, must have earned the sympathy of most.  His and Ruby's part in Journey of the Brave, however, was very small, and his only real role was leading the search party of himself, Ruby, Grandpa Longneck, Topps and Wild Arms, using his nose to track the scent of his friends to follow the path they took to find and rescue Bron.  We definitely need a 15th film so we can delve more into Chomper and Ruby's backstory.

If there's one thing that will make The Lone Dragon happy, it's that Mama Swimmer made it into the top ten!  The biological mother of Ducky and adopted mother of Spike appeared in 12 films for a grand total of 26 minutes and 47 seconds of screen time, landing her in 9th place overall.  Her most prominent appearance, obviously, was in Big Freeze, where she was torn between having Spike stay with her family or allowing him to leave with the herd of Spiketails so he could be with his own kind.  That film saw her get agonizingly close to ten minutes of screen time, and even though she never made it to ten minutes in any of the films, her time in Big Freeze was good enough to ensure a place in the top ten.  She is a very likeable character.  She is a loving mother to both Ducky and Spike, and simply the fact that she readily adopted Spike for Ducky's sake shows that she does not share any of the racist beliefs that many others did, notably Topps.  Everyone in the Gang adores her, and she adores them.  She brings such a warming presence whenever she's on screen, especially in Big Freeze, where her presence really warms the otherwise cold mood left by Spike's departure midway through the film.  She could be explored just a little more, but hey, she made the top ten!  Let's all be happy about that! :duckyhappy

We are taking a massive jump with this next one, going from just under half an hour to just over a full hour.  Topps, the father of Cera (and later Tricia), sits in 8th place with 1 hour and 44 seconds of screen time, counting every film except Journey Through the Mists.  Yep, that's a 1h 0m 44s.  He only ended up breaching the one-hour mark right at the very end, during the closing moments of Journey of the Brave due to him being part of the search party that went after the children whom were rescuing Bron.  I absolutely despised Topps for most of the series, especially the first, third and eleventh films (which was his most prominent appearance, ranking at #6 for that film).  Originally a cruel bigot who refused to have anything to do with anyone who wasn't a Threehorn, hence his still-lingering low views of Littlefoot and others, he was the reason why Cera turned out the way she was most of the time, even though both characters mellowed as the series dragged on.  Topps did everything he could to maintain his gruffness and dominance in the herd, but Grandpa Longneck was always quick to put him back in his place when he went too far.  He continuously infuriated me throughout the series with his authoritarian-like attitude that only Grandpa Longneck could shut down, and at certain times when he irrationally blamed Littlefoot for putting Cera in danger, again much to Grandpa Longneck's chagrin.  I know he eventually improved during the later films, especially after Tria came back into his life, but it's going to take a lot more than his occasional redemption arcs to make up for all the stuff he did in my eyes.

Going from the most rigid parent figure of the Gang to one of the kindest ones, we have Grandma Longneck in 7th place with 1 hour, 1 minute and 33 seconds of screen time.  This means that like Topps, she also did not reach the one-hour mark until the final film in the series.  The grandmother of Littlefoot, she is an occasional voice of reason in the Great Valley when it seems that neither her mate nor Topps can get things settled down.  Besides the Gang, she, along with her mate, were the only characters who appeared in all 14 films, and she ranked in the top ten in six of them, her best rank being 8th in both Journey to Big Water and Great Longneck Migration.  There were two films were she had the most screen time out of all the Great Valley adults (Journey Through the Mists and Wisdom of Friends).  Like her mate, she is a lovable character whom everyone has great respect for, and she is warming and welcoming to all good characters.  I think it's no wonder she landed at #7.

I think it's absolutely no surprise at all that Grandpa Longneck would end up in the #6 rank.  This one, I suppose, was painfully obvious from the moment this project began.  As I just said when going over his mate, he appeared in all 14 films, and he had a grand total of 1 hour, 29 minutes and 56 seconds of screen time.  Just four seconds more, and he would have made it to one and a half hours of total screen time!  The grandfather of Littlefoot, he is the voice of reason and the man of power in the Great Valley, watching over the herd with his strong leadership and wise council which is even capable of making Topps bow to him from time to time like he is simply the Hand of the King.  He adores all of Littlefoot's friends, and they all look up to him for occasional counseling when things go wrong.  Without Grandpa Longneck, there is simply no Great Valley.  I guess that's why Journey Through the Mists really took a toll on us; to think that the Great Valley was that close to losing its wise leader.  He has even shown to be ferocious in combat despite his age, as seen in Secret of Saurus Rock and Great Longneck Migration, even though on both occasions, he briefly lost the upper hand and had to have backup on his side.  I love Grandpa Longneck.  He is among the best characters in The Land Before Time, and there is simply no Land Before Time without him.

And now, we're down to the original five main characters!

At #5, Spike had 3 hours, 56 minutes and 41 seconds of screen time, just missing out on an opportunity to reach four hours.  Being the silent one of the group, he is just simply there most of the time, yet somehow won the Bronze in Mysterious Island and then surprised me yet again with a shocking Silver in Journey to Big Water!  I had originally predicted that Big Freeze would be his only true medal opportunity, but I was 100% wrong, as he didn't even rank in the top five in that movie due to the Spiketails' lack of screen time in the second half.  Because of Spike's mute nature and eating habits, he does annoy me at times, but he also has a big heart, as he is willing to be there to help his friends in times of danger, such as when Ducky was kidnapped in Stone of Cold Fire.  Not one of my favorites, but still a loyal friend when the time needs him to be.

In 4th place, we have the first of the three Gold medalists (being a character who had more screen time than anyone else in a particular movie), and this was none other than my favorite character in the entire Land Before Time series (and the character whom I'm happily voicing in the VO projects); Petrie! :)petrie The Flyer had a total of 4 hours, 21 minutes and 37 seconds on screen over the course of the 14 films.  Petrie started off the series as a cowardly, flightless nobody who annoyed many film critics with his poor attempts at being the comic relief.  However, the sequels slowly improved his character over the years until he became a very likeable character by the time Stone of Cold Fire came out.  Petrie was not very active during the first half of the series, as he didn't get his first medal until Stone of Cold Fire (thanks to his uncle Pterano), and even after that, he would have to wait until Invasion of the Tinysauruses for his next top 3 result.  Of course, though, as we all know, his crowning achievement was in Great Day of the Flyers.  I've already covered on this before in my review of that movie, so here's the short version: Petrie really came out of his friends' shadows in Great Day of the Flyers, especially after Guido came into the picture to coach him on being a better Flyer.  Then, when Guido went astray in his sleep and ended up running into a Sailback Sharptooth in the Mysterious Beyond, Petrie showed uncharacteristically pure bravery by getting right into the face of that Sailback without any flinching or any hint of fear and successfully rescued Guido after his friends (whom had been lagging behind) finally showed up to distract the Sailback.  He later proved himself a hero by rescuing the newborn Tricia from certain death DURING the Day of the Flyers, and he ultimately earned the respect and admiration of everyone in the Great Valley for his heroism.  In the process, he earned the Gold medal for that movie for having the most screen time (one of only two Golds to not be won by Littlefoot due to him not being the central focus character).  Petrie ended up having quite a big run late in the series, winning medals in all the last four films consecutively, and for a moment it looked as though he was threatening to challenge Ducky for third place, but in the end, he couldn't come within five minutes of Ducky, and thus Petrie ranks at #4.

Okay.  We're saving the best for last.  Stay tuned for the reveal of the top three! :)petrie

19
We've made it to the top 20!  It won't be too long before we see where the top characters rank! :)petrie

Ranks 20-11

Kicking off the top 20, we have the annoying Threehorn twins, Dinah and Dana, with 13 minutes and 49 seconds on screen in Secret of Saurus Rock.  It's not surprising that their antics are annoying due to the fact that they're babies, but given that they literally took Cera's "Get lost" advice to heart by absentmindedly and fearlessly running away to Saurus Rock, that simply drew my ire, and I guess now you see why I just don't like these characters.  I will cut them some slack for being toddlers, but still I can't think of how something like that can be excused.  They ended up bringing bad luck to the Great Valley as they were the ones who broke Saurus Rock, and thus they rubbed me the wrong way.

In 19th place, we have Littlefoot's father, Bron, with 14 minutes and 12 seconds of screen time over the course of two movie appearances.  Right up until the 10th movie, we were left to believe that Littlefoot was an orphan after his mother's death in the first movie, but then we learned he had a long-lost father, and when the truth was revealed, I'm sure we all felt the same way Littlefoot did.  The classic case of "Where have you been all my life!?"  Bron's flashbacks of his views of events from the first movie really captured our curiosities, and the fact that Kiefer Sutherland, of all people, was his voice in this movie was just amazing!  This was early on during his run as Jack Bauer on "24," and he sought to use his own natural voice for Bron.  It paid off, and it even paved the way for Scott Whyte to take the same approach.  This is the same Scott Whyte who later took over the role of Captain Qwark in "Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart" after Jim Ward had been forced to retire for health reasons.  Bron quickly became a fan-favorite, and he's a character whom many would like to see more of.

At #18, we have, in my opinion, the worst character in the entire series; Doofah.  Her screen time on Wisdom of Friends was 15 minutes and 32 seconds, becoming our first character on this list to surpass a quarter of an hour of screen time.  Yes, I just said Doofah is the worst character in the entire series, even worse than Loofah.  Doofah definitely shows stupider tendencies than Loofah does.  I can't believe they brought Sandra Oh of "Grey's Anatomy" to voice this abomination.  Oh didn't deserve to be given this terrible role.  Crazy fact: Doofah's screen time actually excludes a few shots she was in because she was not supposed to be in those shots where the herd took cover from the rain as she had separated from the herd in her stupidity, thus making this a major continuity error.  15:32 is thus her "correct" screen time without the continuity error.  God, Wisdom of Friends was such an abomination that should never have been released, but I need to move on to the next character before I continue rambling at this terrible movie! :petriemad

Well, the perfect character to save me from Doofah; the mother of my favorite character!  Mama Flyer ranks at #17 with a total of 15 minutes and 36 seconds of screen time.  It's actually quite unfortunate that Mama Flyer ended up this low on the list.  The most screen time she got in a single movie was just shy of five minutes in Great Day of the Flyers, where she also posted her best film rank at #11 out of 17 characters in said movie.  She appeared in 12 movies, and yet she did not rank in the top ten in ANY of them.  Honestly, it's very sad that we barely even got glimpses of Petrie's mother, and she deserves a lot more, especially given the small glimpse we got of the relationship between her and her son in the 12th movie.  While her other children were bashing Petrie to no end, their mother was quick to stop their ranting, and here we got the ONLY scene in the entire series where it was just Petrie and his mother alone.  We finally saw that she loves Petrie just the way he is despite his numerous flaws, because he is her flesh and blood, and she would do anything to make him happy.  The scene unfortunately ended with Mama Flyer not succeeding in cheering Petrie up, but we know that the time the two spent together offscreen must have been very happy most of the time.  She is a caring and loving mother to Petrie, and we unfortunately got next to no onscreen glimpses of that.  No wonder she's a major character in most of my LBT fanfiction stories. :(petrie

To make things even worse for Mama Flyer, I am utterly dismayed to reveal that she ended up being sandwiched between the two most insufferable Yellow Bellies, as Loofah (the leader of the Yellow Belly herd) ranks in 16th with 16 minutes and 20 seconds of screen time in Wisdom of Friends.  Just as I was about to say that we needed more of Mama Flyer, well here's more proof of that.  I've already went on bashing Wisdom of Friends to no end.  Seriously, need I say more ... ? :petriemad  UGH!!  Moving on!

Okay, we got all three Yellow Bellies out of the way.  Now I can relax!  Anyways, moving on to the top 15, we have Mr. Thicknose, the children's tutor in Big Freeze, who had 16 minutes and 49 seconds on screen, most of which was in the second half of the 8th movie.  He was actually one of the few characters who had more screen time than any one member of the Gang of Five in any movie, as he ended up having more screen time in Big Freeze than both Spike and Petrie, coming in 4th place for his only film appearance.  He started out as some sort of schoolteacher for the Gang, but after Littlefoot exposed him for lying about the coming snow, the Great Valley shunned him for "not knowing everything."  It wasn't until he ended up accompanying the Gang to the Mysterious Beyond after Spike had left and Ducky had sneaked out looking for him that he finally came clean about his past and even had his own song, showing his eagerness to redeem himself.  In my opinion, his song alone was his great redemption, although he did later save the Gang by delivering the killing blow to a Sharptooth whom had stalked them along the mountain range.  That along with providing the Gang protection throughout their misadventure earned high praise from many who previously doubted him.  He certainly didn't start out as a likeable character, but in the end, he proved to be one of the most heartwarming characters, as shown when he forgave Littlefoot after what he had done at the beginning of the film and became a good companion to the Gang in general.  I guess it's sad that he, too, was limited to just one movie, but he did stick around for the TV series, as if that's any better.

Ah, here we go!  In 14th place, we have one of the most popular characters in the entire Land Before Time series, and that is, of course, none other than Petrie's dear old uncle Pterano!  He had 16 minutes and 50 seconds of screen time in his one-and-only appearance in Stone of Cold Fire, putting him just ONE second ahead of Mr. Thicknose!  This character quickly became a big inspiration for LBT fanworks because of his relationship with his nephew Petrie, and it's one of the reasons why Stone of Cold Fire is considered one of the more favored sequels.  His Scottish-like, Shakespearean voice provided by British actor Michael York (who was starring in the Austin Powers films at the time) was the icing on the cake!  Despite his evilness, he is considered one of the best characters in the whole franchise (besides the Gang).  Of course, though, he did have his infamous flaws that made others shun him, but actually for rightful reasons.  He led part of the herd astray, which led to all of them being slaughtered while only he escaped and was met with resentment and hatred for what he had done.  Then, of course, he manipulated his own nephew into forcing the Stone of Cold Fire's location out of Littlefoot's mouth just for his own selfish desires, as he sought to use the Stone's supposed magical powers to obtain new magical abilities and make the Great Valley conform to his will.  It definitely was wrong that he allowed Sierra to capture Ducky in the night for spying on them, but on the other side of that, he did show that he would not tolerate any harm coming to her and especially his nephew Petrie, as shown when he slapped Rinkus in retaliation for swatting Petrie out of the sky.  When Ducky was believed to have fallen to her death, unlike his minions, he showed genuine remorse for what he had supposedly done.  He even tried to stop Rinkus and Sierra from murdering the children in cold blood.  To cap it all off, when he finally came to his senses once it became clear that he was never going to obtain the magical powers he had sought after, he redeemed himself in an epic way by rescuing Ducky, the very dinosaur he had captured, from falling to her death, and even the valley agreed that this was a good deed worthy of having his banishment reduced to five years.  His emotional parting with his tearful nephew and his subsequent departure from the valley left all of us begging for more, but he unfortunately was never heard from again.  I could go on all day about how we all want to see so much more of Pterano, but we still have another 13 characters to go over.

13th place is going to Cera's stepmother, Tria, with 17 minutes and 35 seconds of screen time.  She first appeared in Invasion of the Tinysauruses and played a big part in mellowing Topps out, which, after a while, succeeded in making him a softer character than he was before.  It did take her a while to earn Cera's respect, but after seeing how she defended the Tiny Longnecks, going against her own future mate's wishes, Cera finally began to see her as a likeable Threehorn, and the two began to spend some quality time together and know each other a lot more.  By the next film, Topps and Tria were officially together and were expecting a child, and later on, they had a beautiful daughter named Tricia, giving Cera a new baby sister.  Her final film appearance was in Wisdom of Friends, where her role was much smaller.  She was in plenty of TV episodes, but she and Tricia were both absent from Journey of the Brave for some reason, so here she is at lucky #13.

#12 is one of the most prominent one-movie characters, and this was none other than Littlefoot's cousin, Ali, with 17 minutes and 43 seconds of screen time, all in Journey Through the Mists.  You may have noticed a Silver medal on the top right of her picture, and that's because she had the second-most screen time in her only movie appearance, having more screen time than everyone except Littlefoot.  When Grandpa Longneck fell ill shortly after Ali's herd arrived in the Great Valley, and Littlefoot learned of the Night Flowers from the Land of Mists (the herd's former home), which was the only thing that could cure his ailing grandfather, he sought Ali's help, knowing she would know the way to the Land of Mists, and this was responsible for boosting her screen time so much that she took the Silver medal for screen time in Journey Through the Mists and ultimately took the #12 spot overall, becoming the lowest-ranked  "medalist" on this list.  Sadly, though, she made no further film appearances after that, leaving many of us wondering why.

At #11, we have the second character in a row with a Silver-earning one-off movie appearance.  In this case, it was Guido from Great Day of the Flyers, with 22 minutes and 29 seconds of screen time, making him our first 20+ minute character.  This strange character just randomly pops up in the Great Valley having no idea how he even got there, and he doesn't even fit in anywhere.  On top of that, his preferred food is worms, which disgusted some of the valley residents, including Petrie's siblings.  That said, though, he eventually found a way to fit in by coaching Petrie during his flying practice, as the Day of the Flyers was right around the corner, and until then Petrie had been messing up everything.  Guido ended up bringing out the best in Petrie, but on the night before the Day of the Flyers, we saw just why he has no idea why he ends up at random places: he's a sleepwalker and a sleep-flyer.  Those slow-paced scenes of his sleepwalking and sleep-flying, to go along with his run-in with the Sailback Sharptooth, prompting a brave rescue effort by Petrie, boosted his screen time significantly, and he ended up ranking second behind Petrie in Great Day of the Flyers, becoming one of only four characters to beat Littlefoot in any film.  Yes, he also played a part in rescuing Tricia, but could not succeed on his own, and Tricia would not have made it out had it not been for Petrie.  Guido is a strange character, no doubt, but he shaped Petrie into becoming a brave and formidable Flyer by the end of the film.

Oh, boy!  We've got the top ten coming up now!  In the next post, we will look at ranks 10th through 4th! :)petrie
