Introducing Dagara the Sharpneck!
Hidden Valley's only amargasaurus, Dagara is the last of her kind (so far as we know). This endling is the protagonist of 'Because You're a Sharpneck'. It occurred to me that many may be unfamiliar with her kind, which might just be my favourite dinosaur species after I recently found out about them. Thus, I decided to create a visual representation that nobody asked for!
Check out her fics:
Because You're a Sharpneck (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=16913.0) (Gang of Five forum versions)
or Because You're a Sharpneck (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13556382/1/Because-You-re-a-Sharpneck-A-War-Before-Time-Oneshot) (FanFiction version)
Babysitting a Sharpneck (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13557155/1/Babysitting-a-Sharpneck-A-War-Before-Time-Oneshot) - Threehorn 'babysitting' isn't what you think it is. Find out in this short, comedic oneshot.
Surviving a Sharpneck (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13887635/1/Surviving-a-Sharpneck) - Cera forces Dagara into a confrontation to prove whose the toughest girl in the gang. Things escalate quickly.
Circle of Death (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13912217/1/Circle-of-Death) - Red Claw finally catches the gang and Dagara, but things are not what they seem.

Look, a spikeneck flathead! :cerasmug
It looks very cool! :D
-
Thanks, ha ha! 'Spikenecks'? Is that what some people call them? In my case, I call them 'sharpnecks' as a subtle nod to ... well, check out the story to find out. Let's just say her spikes aren't the only sharp thing about her ;)Cera.
-
Hah, not bad. I wonder how this creature would look like when it will become adult.
-
Thank you! I might answer that question with an image at some point, but for now I'll say she'll grow even spikier: an interesting balance between sharptooth-level intimidation and swan-like elegance ... but don't ever tell her that last part. She hates the idea of being 'elegant'.
-
The picture from the first message is gone :littlefoot
-
^Hmm, I was just wondering about that myself. Was it the same image as the one on the fanfic link? Very cool design either way.
-
yeah, direct link to picture, placed in cdnb.artstation.com, returns "forbidden" now.
Better to post pictures to free image hostings, where they won't suddenly disappear.
Yeah, it's dino from fanfiction.net avatar.

Sorry everyone. I'm pretty sure that was my fault as opposed to ArtStation's. I did a lot of scatter-brained stuff to try and get the picture at just the right size on this site :rhett_smile. Is it working now? Furthermore, does anyone know how to scale images, or does it purely depend on the size of the source image?

Yes, it is working now.
To change the size of image, add width or height parameter in pixels to the IMG tag.
For example:
[img width=1000]https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/031/004/068/large/ethan-alleyne-dagara-small.jpg?1602284106[/img]
Or:
[img height=500]https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/031/004/068/large/ethan-alleyne-dagara-small.jpg?1602284106[/img]
I wouldn't recommend you to put both parameters at the same time because it can ruin the aspect ratio of the image.

Thank you so much! I plan to do some more artwork of her, but for now here's a profile.

wow, nice description's design and text! :D

Thank you! :chompysmile

Ah, there we go. Looks great. :D
-
Very cool Mr E! I'm not much into OCs personally but this one is really unique. I like the flowing pattern on the back!

Wonderful, and thanks!

Thank you :)! Some of her secondary colour distribution was initially more like Littlefoot's, but I decided to spice it up a bit. I'd love to see people use the amargasaurus species more in fiction. Her dynamic with Littlefoot will hopefully be interesting.
-
WOW!! :Mo This is such a unique and well done character design--I hardly ever see Amargasaurus get any attention, but they're such a cool species! I really hope we'll see more art from you in the future!

Thanks so much!! :D I intend to release more art at some point, roping in The Gang of Five and designs for the Far Beyonders (beings from Beyond the Mysterious Beyond). Might submit a comic featuring Dagara in the near future. In the meantime, I'd appreciate your take on her story. Though she ultimately meets the gang in future instalments, I'd like to know if the OC-driven tale is effective. (https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/035/270/612/large/ethan-alleyne-young-adult-dagara-watermarked.jpg?1614553743)
Young adult Dagara, Hidden Valley's mightiest warrior (not that most threehorns will admit it). After years of tempering her battle instincts, she's mellowed out somewhat. As you can see, she's no longer afraid to reveal her teeth, which are rather unusual for a longneck, but perfectly normal for a sharpneck.
This is supposed to be an art board for all things War Before Time, and yet it seems I'm stuck on Dagara for the moment :petrieLOL. The style here is a little different from my original drawing. I may redesign her at some point, but what do you think?
You may notice subtle elements of her anatomy that suggest something remarkable about her species. I took some poetic license with amargasauruses in my War Before Time canon. Can anyone figure out what makes her kind so unique among longnecks? (Assuming you haven't seen posts where I made it a lot more blatant).
Check out her stories, 'Because You're a Sharpneck' (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/13556382/1/Because-You-re-a-Sharpneck-A-War-Before-Time-Oneshot) and 'Babysitting a Sharpneck' (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/13557155/1/Babysitting-a-Sharpneck-A-War-Before-Time-Oneshot).
For something more familiar, check out 'Mentors of Yesteryears' (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/13516136/7/War-Before-Time-Part-1-Mentors-of-Yesteryears), in which Littlefoot and the gang face new kinds of adventures as they train to fight sharpteeth under mentors from across the valley and beyond.
-
aww, Dagara grew up indeed!
Good drawing!
So much colors and good shading.
-
Looks awesome! I love it. :DD
-
Nicely done! Not sure if the smile is supposed to be more of a happy one or a menacing one with how much of a fighter she's hyped up to be :PLoofah

Hmmm is it her sharper claws instead of the more standard rounded ones? :thinking

Thanks! Good point about the smile, @Flathead. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with this design. On the other hand, her shar-toothed grin is always menacing, even when it's friendly as in this case. For that reason, she usually hid her teeth as a kid, which is why you never see them in the comics ... yet.
Yup, the claws and teeth. You got it!

Thanks, @StardustSoldier!

Finally made a prompt entry, which serves the dual purpose of the cover image for my fanfic, 'Surviving a Sharpneck'! This one is for the May/June prompt, 'Unlikely Encounter'. Yup, still in my Dagara phase! Being an OC of mine, Dagara has, of course, never interacted with Cera (or anyone else) canonically, but I see no rules against OCs, so I decided to give it a shot! This encounter's even more unlikely, given that the two of them live in separate valleys ... not to mention all entrances/exits to Dagara's valley have been cut off since The Great Earthshake.
Cera has not fully come to grips with the danger she's in ... but she's getting there. What happened between these two? How will Cera survive Dagara's fiery wrath? Breathing steam like a fire-breathing monster, what exactly is Dagara? How are they interacting, despite the distance and obstacles between them? Find out in my fanfic, 'Surviving a Sharpneck' (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13887635/1/Surviving-a-Sharpneck)

Ohhhh very nice! I love how warm your colors feel. And you definitely portrayed Cera's uncertainty well in her facial expression. Solid work :)
-
Cera has never been one to admit to being in danger, has she? :ceramad Very nice work, this is a superb art piece
-
Oh hey another prompt entry, nice! Very well done with the expressions! Never noticed that Dagara has a bit of a tear in her eye when looking at this on my phone. Great job with this!

Yeah I see no reason as to why this wouldn't be allowed. I generally want to leave prompts as open as possible to allow for more creative freedom within it.
-
Haha. It seems that Cera, who is normally the one known for being fiery, has finally met someone who could give her a run for her money.
Nicely done, as usual. :DD

Oh, interesting. I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.

Good eye @Flathead770! I didn't want the tear to be too obvious, but I'm glad someone noticed it!
Thanks for the creative freedom with the entries.

Thank you @StardustSoldier :littlefoot:)! Funnily enough, Dagara doesn't really view Cera as a hot-head. More like an uncomfortably-warm-head. Annoyingly whiny? Yup. Petulantly persistent? Sure. Insensitive? Often, but it's hard to view Cera as a serious hothead when a sharpneck's anger is so much more extreme.
-

Yup. She hasn't. :OhYou. Thanks @Mouse-a-saur.

I wavered between Cera having a borderline oblivious stare and looking overtly fearful, but this feels like a good in-between for me. Thank you, @Mumbling!
-
C'mon, Cera never lost to any silly longnecks, well (or to one particular longneck, at least), so don't be afraid, Cera, you can deal with this one too! Remember: threehorns are the best! :ToppsGrumpy
This drawing is so good! :D
-
Thank you, @Sneak! I'm sure Cera would appreciate the encouragement, assuming she can hear it over the point-blank snarling.
-
Your art has such a neat comic-book quality to it! :)littlefoot You really draw poses and expressions with a lot of personality, and it suits Dagara’s energy and attitude so well. The “Surviving a Sharpneck” cover is so well drawn and definitely gets across the tension that drives the story while Cera’s thought bubble allows some humor into the situation. Really great work!
-
@RainbowFaceProtege You're right, come to think of it - there is a comic book type style I employed that doesn't quite simply fall under 'cartoony'. I hadn't consciously realised. Thanks! I'd initially made Dagara's line art more like Cera's, but the jagged, rough look was more of an afterthought to suggest that she's practically vibrating with anger.
-
IS THAT ... LITTLEFOOT?

Aaand I feel like a mad scientist :rhett_smile. At some point during the later stages of War Before Time, Littlefoot and his friends are augmented for the battle of the ages. Extreme threats require extreme responses. Trust me, it makes sense in context (*ahem*RainbowFaces*cough*). Don't worry, he'll be back to normal-ish-sorta-maybe when the war's over. :littlefoot:)
-
:littlefoot Talk about an upgrade
Awesome art piece!
-
Dang Littlefoot is looking intense! Nice job! :)littlefoot
How will Rhett compete now? :rhett_ohsnap
-
Thanks @Mouse-a-saur!

Glad you like it @Flathead770

If I had to guess ... I'd say he wouldn't ... the poor guy. :rhett_ohno

Oh weird! But at least they're still on your artstation! And wow, cool longneck. Dig the design! You really got some really unique and cool dino designs!

Glad you're enjoying the designs! No worries, I've fixed the issue, so it's visible on this site again.

Ooh, nice! Littlefoot has transformed into his next evolution stage. :D
-
Haha! Indeed, he has @StardustSoldier!
-
Whoa, sci-fi Littlefoot looks pretty epic! :rhett_shocked Kind of gives me Pokemon vibes (not that I know much about Pokemon at all, haha). I like the cool gray/blue color scheme you chose!

Thank you @RainbowFaceProtege! I don't really follow Pokemon either, but I see what you mean! I just came out of a project (well, still ongoing project, I guess) where I used a similar colour scheme for a military sci-fi aircraft. I was so pleased with the result that I decided to try it here.
