Laserdisc.  A format of video that came out in the late-70s that was hoping to replace VHS, but never got going mainly due to just how expensive they were (but due to other issues as well) and was eventually replaced with DVD.

I never even saw a Laserdisc in my entire life until I saw this video, (Produced by James Rolfe, aka The AVGN.) and they are HUGE!  I mean, they're the size of a freaking record.  That's pretty big for a freaking disc.

According to the following video, they had some rather nice features that showed this thing did have potential, but the issues within it made it die and replaced it with what we know as DVD.

Enjoy the video, because this could be one of the few times you ever see a Laserdisc.

I've seen laserdiscs in real life before a few times. One of my relatives happens to have a laserdisc player herself and, far as I know, still owns many movies, such as Bambi and possibly ET, not sure of all that she has. We even watched some laserdiscs at her place from time to time.

Looks like an interesting video, thanks for the link.

Funny considering my age, but I've never seen a laserdisc in my life.  Guess around here they were not very popular or I missed going into the sections of certain stores that had them.  I did hear about them way back when, and they and the players were rather expensive as I recall.

I've always wanted one of these.  I like how good the quality is and such.  But with Blu-Ray and such nowadays, it's kinda useless.  Just imagine having a laserdisk drive in your computer. :lol It'd actually work on mine since my computer is a flatbed. :p

Still holds up as a Collector's Item. :)

Just in-case you still want to get some of this stuff, eBay, as expected, is the clear winner in a place on the net to get them.

Laserdisc Movies

eBay, you never let me down. :)
