I have always wondered how big all of the characters would be in relation to a 6' human.  You can't use the trees as a reference.  Those trees in LBT were there for who knows how long.  There weren't any humans with chainsaws back then!

I know that Petrie is not as small as a small or even a madium sized bird.  I conclude that he is at least the size of an eagle.  The main basis for my conclusion is the pattern of flapping.  He does flap more frequently when he is taking off, which any flying creature must do, but when he's in the air, he barely needs to flap at all.  One exception is in LBT 12 when he was flying in wind.  If we can assume that Petrie is about the size of an eagle, that would make Littlefoot, Cera, and Spike HUGE.  A lot bigger than I ever thought they would be considering their age.  It is logical to assume that they would be this large since they grow so large when they reach maturity.  I probably left out some key points in my explaination though.  It's 4:30am and I haven't been to bed yet so I might not be thinking clearly.  What do you think?

No. He isn't the size of an eagle. Just compare his size to the sticks in his nest. Perhaps Pterano is at least the size of an eagle.

You have to look at this in perspective.  Since the trees were much larger, it is logical to assume that the sticks are larger as well.  Who is to say how large the sticks are?  They could be as small as an apple stem or al large as one of today's trees (though highly unlikely).  Again, the sticks cannot be used as a reference point since we have no definite size.  We cannot use any item shown in LBT so far as a reference point since no item has been measured using human measurement standards.  Therefore, we must take other things into consideration when judging size.

I disagree. An old tree need not be a large tree. The trees growing in prehistoric times included some very large redwood trees, but such trees still exist today. As far as I know plants in prehistoric times were not generally larger than they are today. Petrie is shown as not much larger than some flowers time and again. I don't expect him to be considerable larger than my budgie (twice his seize at most).

If Pterano is a pteranodon, and he is fully grown, then he would be much larger than an eagle. He would be about the same size as a human, if not bigger.

Great job Darkhououmon!  Now, if we can approximate Petrie's age, then we could see an age to growth chart, or if none exists, we can make one considering factors such as growth rate, gender, and any other decerning factors that would determine his size reletive to the size of the adult flier you found.  If we can do this, we can make an appropriate approximation of the size of the entire gang!  This will be fun!

I thought that he was a pterodactyl, not a pteranodon.

Pteradactyl is just another name for Pteranodon. Pteranodon was the only pterosaur to have a long crest like Pterano has.

Scratch that. I think pterodactyl is just a term used for the entire pterosaur family, and could mean any pterosaur species. But I've seen the term used most commonly with Pteranodon.

Pterodactyl is also the name given to a pterosaur with a long headcrest like a pteranodon but the tail like a Ramphorynchus (sp?). (like in We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story). Such a pterosaur never really existed.

Only one pterosaur shares a name close to "pterodactyl" and it is Pterodactylus.

isn't there a thread for this already somewhere? I think there's one with all their dimensions somewhere...

Littlefoot is roughly 6 feet tall, use him from comparison

1.. that's what the other (I'm too lazy to look for) thread I read said (rhymes :p)

2.. general knowledge, a full grown Apatosaurus was roughly 70 feet long, and Grandpa is roughly 12 times bigger than Littlefoot

so... roughly, he's roughly 6 feet

I heard he was only 3 ft tall. And his size seems to change in relation to his grandfather.

And isn't Petrie smaller than Littlefoot's head?  So he'd be less than a foot by that assumption. :)

I always thought of him being about the size of a large duck really. Prob not a bad guess really. A adult of his type would be about 6 to 8 feet tip of beak to tip of tail. Based on series and film compared to his mother hes about 1/6 to 1/5 his mothers size. Assuming females of his species are slightly smaller than the males hes 1/5 to 1/6 his mothers length so tip of beak to tip of tail 1 foot or a little better. Thats about the size of your typical malard duck. Or he could be as big as somethign inbetween duck and canadian goose size. So say 12 to 18 inches in length. In the show and movies it shows his wing span to be just a tiny bit more than his front to back length so 16 to 20 inch wing span. Sounds small at firt but grab a tape mesure and lay it out on the floor :)

I guess Littlefoot could really be 6 ft tall, after comparing Littlefoot with Pterano.

Then again, LBT 7 isn't exactly known for size/color consistency.

I would amend that  to be slight shorter, because Pterano is bigger than littlefoot. I would say Littlefoot is around 5'10, By comparison, Ali is about 5/7 5'8. I'm using the Brave Long scheme as a comparison point..

We've had an interesting discussion about the size of the gang in a Really old post.  Feel free to give it a read.  I did a bit of math to work out Littlefoot's weight, way back when. :p
