Title: New Version of VLC
Post by: landbeforetimelover on February 01, 2009, 05:08:34 AM
I was just notified via my sidebar gadget that my version of VLC was out of date.  I've been waiting for a new version for quite some time now.  Frankly the visual interface of VLC reminded me of Windows 98. :p Well it's been totally redesigned now and it looks great.  It has so many differences I don't even know where to begin.  The best enhancement is a little player status bar at the bottom of the screen when you move the mouse in full screen mode.  I've always hated having to put it back to windowed mode to control it with complete accuracy.  Keyboard shortcuts work to an extent, but I much prefer an interface that you can control with a mouse.  What are your thoughts of this new version?

EDIT:  The only thing I hate about it is the volume control bar.  Why does it need to be that huge? :p It's hideous too.

A new interface can't hide the fact its still choppy on seeking video files and lacks some enhancement features other players have.  I won't go back to VLC.

I've never had problems with VLC being choppy except on one computer.  It had a 266mhz PII processor, 96mb of ram, and a 2gb hard drive. :p VLC is plenty for me.  The only thing it can't play is that Japanese encoded RBGV or whatever format.  I'm not sure if I like the new interface too much.  Maybe I just have to get used to it.
