Talk about the computers you've had from your first one all the way to your current one.  Now I'm only talking about your BEST computer, the one you use as your main one.  I'll go first.

1993-1995 (I couldn't upgrade this one.  I was only 2 years old when I got it.  I was lucky I even knew how to even use it at that age, especially considering that it used MS-DOS!)

*23mhz processor
*4mb ram
*80mb hard drive
*MS-DOS 4.5

1995-1996

*133mhz Pentium processor
*64mb ram (upgraded to 196mb by 1996)
*2gb hard drive
*Windows 95

1996-1997

*266mhz processor
*128mb ram (upgraded to 256 right after I got it.  Then I upgraded it to 368 by the time I got rid of it, which is it's maximum)
*2.5gb hard drive (upgraded it to 80gb in the first year.  That was A LOT of storage back then!)
*Windows 95 (Upgraded to windows 98 in it's last years)

1997-2001

*1ghz processor
*128mb ram (Upgraded to 512 by 1999)
*10gb hard disk (upgraded to an 120gb by 1999 as well)
*Originally had windows 98.  I upgraded it to windows ME, then to windows 2000 professional, then to windows xp home edition.
*DVD Drive.  YAY!!!

2001-2002

*1.2ghz processor
*512mb ram (maxed out)
*100gb hard disk
*Windows xp pro

2002-2003

*1.6ghz processor
*256mb ram (Eventually upgraded it to 1gb (1024mb) of ram)
*40gb hard disk (never upgraded this.  I got a 500gb external hard drive instead.)
*Windows xp professional SP1 and then SP2

2003-2004

*1.8ghz processor
*1gb ram (maxed out)
*120gb hard disk
*Windows xp professional

2004-2005

*2.6ghz P4 processor
*2gb ram
*250gb hard disk
*windows xp professional

2005-2006 (I built my master! :D )

*2 processors; 1 was a 1.6ghz P4 and the other was a single core AMD athlon processor running at 3ghz for a total of 4.6ghz.
*originally came with 2gb of DDR2 ram.  Maxed out at 8gb.
*2 hard drives; 1 500gb and 1 200gb.  I eventually put 4 500gb drives in there
*Windows xp professional

2006-2008

*3.2ghz processor with hyperthreading
*4gb of DDR2 ram running at 800mhz
*8 hard drives; 3 500gb, 1 320gb, 1 250gb, 2 750gb, and 1 1tb hard drive.  Total storage is 4,570gb.  4 of the HDs are SATA and 4 are ATA.  I love this machine, but I have to upgrade to a different one soon.  It maxes out at 4gb of ram. :(
*Windows xp professional SP3 lite edition. :yes

So that's pretty much my history when it comes to my main computers.  What about yours?  I'm sure there will be tons of people here with rich histories like mine.  I'm probably the youngest here who's been through that many years of computers, but I'm sure there will be some with more interesting tales then mine.  So, how about it?

Since I can't really go into details with my old computers, as I really lacked the knowledge of their components and never knew how to look them up at the time, I'll try my best to explain what they were like.

My first computer was at a time before computers used CDs and only used floppy disks. (And they were actually floppy, being thin and flexible.) It housed MS-DOS and was mainly used for games, writing documents and making banners and cards.  Also, everything had to be done by keyboard, but programs were made to be easily usable with it, so it really wasn't a problem.  However, this became a hassle as EVERY program you would use for whatever purpose was stored in a floppy disk, and we had more than 50 different programs on disks.

I kept on that computer until not long after the internet came into existence and computers had upgraded to having Windows and using CDs.  It took over the purposes of my old computer and had internet access.  However, at the time, I only used the internet for school projects, mainly because that was the wish of my parents and they didn't want me going to places I shouldn't until I could handle the responsibility of it all.

I've only had my current Desktop for a few good years.  Many of you probably know the specs, but for those who don't, here they are:

1.81 GHz AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ (Single Core)

4.00 GB RAM (3.00 being read and utilized currently.)

80GB SATA hard disk

1 DVD/CD Drive

1 Zip Drive

5 USB Ports (3 front, two back.  Also hold a 4 USB port HUB to make it 8 USB ports.)

Windows XP SP3

Samsung Monitor

Logitech Keyboard

Microsoft Wireless 5-button with scroll wheel mouse

---------

Save for the mouse, power supply, BIOS and RAM, nothing else has changed since I got it.  This is used for internet access, documents, small games, (Usually used by my brother.) and a few other things.

I'll put the specs for my Laptop later.

For now, see ya later!

*UPDATE!*

Late 2008 - End of February 2009

I switched my master machine to the following:

AMD Athlon 64X2 4200+ 2.2ghz dual-core processor
3gb DDR2 800mhz ram
Hard Drives:  1 200gb, 2 500gb, 1 320gb
Windows XP Pro SP3
256mb integrated graphics

In January of 2009, I changed my master again to this one:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6ghz processor
3gb DDR2 800mhz ram
hard drives:  3 500gb, 1 750gb
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
128mb integrated graphics

I plan to upgrade it to 8gb of ram and put in a 512mb graphics card eventually, but for now that's what I'm living with as a master.  I love dual core AMD CPUs even if Intel Core2Duo's are technically better. :D

EDIT:  Oh and the 8gb will be 1066mhz instead of 800mhz so that'll make a difference as well.

***UPDATE!***

I got a new master around July of 2009.  It came with the following specs:

*Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00ghz Processor
*2gb DDR2 1066mhz Ram (upgraded to 6gb DDR2 800mhz ram a week and a half after I got it)
*160gb SATA II Hard Drive (added 750gb as main the day I got it and hooked up 3 external hard drives (500gb (x2) and a 750gb)
*DVD-RW DL With Lightscribe

Oh, and it's a flatbed!  I haven't had one of these as my master since my very first computer so it made me a bit nostalgic when I used it at first.

I've had, in order:

An Atari ST.

An Amiga 4000.

3 main PCs (I've had dozens of temporary PCs that I had for maybe a few months or less). One when I was 5 or 6, which lasted for a few years.

I still have both my other two. My oldest is ten years old, but has had a few upgrades.

The one I currently use is turning five... and has yet to have a single part replaced, since it's practically indestructible... I mean seriously, it's been dropped.... twice! :lol

...
(once was down a flight of stairs... we laughed so bloody hard that night, especially when it kept working).

Wow Littlefoot90.  You really haven't had any old school computers, have you?  The oldest computer you showed had an AMD processor with 512mb of DDR2 memory! :p You must either be really young or just haven't had a computer for most of your life.

Guess I've never actually posted in this thread....and it looks like I may beat you all simply due to age.

We had a computer in our house before 1992, and the reason I know is because we moved in Nov. 1992 to a new house, so we had the computer before the move and I remember playing some Disney game with Mickey Mouse on it.  Integrated sound...all those beeps and boops with maybe 256 colors.  I don't even remember if it had a cd rom drive, but definitely floppy disks (the smaller plastic ones).

The next computer I can recall was a huge Gateway machine.  I think it was only 233mhz or something for a processor.

Next one was smaller, custom built by my dad...I think it was 500mhz.  I didn't care much before 1998 what the computers were like, nor did I really use one for much of anything.  About 1998 or 1999 was when I really started moving into things like games and the internet using a computer more regularly.  Ahh, the sound of the dialup modem and having time limits! :p  I always blew my time limit.

I got my first computer in 2002 when I went to college.  It was a Dell something or other (don't remember) with XP home.  This computer is still in the household but it is no longer on and running but was on 24/7 up till last year with the original harddrive.

My next machine was a laptop in 2004.  Dell Inspirion 5100 I think.  Piece of crap engineering.  I blew three motherboards in it because the circuitry was not designed for constant removing of headphone plugs from the jack and in college, sometimes you wanted speakers playing, sometimes you needed headphones.

My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I got for grad school in 2006.  Dual Core, 2gb ram and 95gb harddrive which has been maxed out over and over and I'm too cheap to get a bigger one when I can buy and external for less and keep the larger files on it.  Currently the battery is dead and no longer in the laptop.  The day something breaks and can't be repaired cheaply is the day it goes out the door.  I'll probably just get a basic desktop or something then....maybe I'll reclaim my old Dell desktop with XP home on it from 2002.  I really don't need cutting edge crap these days because I'm rarely home to do much of anything with a computer. :p

Hehe.  My very first computer only had a 5 1/2" floppy drive. :p It also had some sort of port on the back for an external hard drive. :wow In addition, it came with an external 8 1/2 floppy drive.  The only thing I did on it was play Treasure Mountain and program a few basic applications.  Here's some info about the game (and some screenshots).  It came out in 1990:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Mountain (To get the link to work, put a "!" right after it.  BBcode doesn't allow this url for some reason).

EDIT:  Oh and yeah.  It came with a black and white monitor.  No color.  I eventually got a color one for it, but I think the computer could only support 16 colors.

And I still have this game AND the box and everything that came with it!  Of course I can't play it on any modern computer.  I got rid of the last computer I had with a 5 1/2" drive a loooooooooong time ago.  If I ever see a copy of it on regular 3 1/2" floppy disks, I'll get it and put it on an XP computer. :lol
