General Land Before Time / What Makes the Sequels Good?

I don't think animation means what you think it means xD

animation is the frame by frame work of motion and expression, not the colors, style, backgrounds, sound, etc.
The point is, the early sequels are just beautiful, and it hurts to see people saying the exact same thing about the later ones, because it makes me feel silly for liking the old ones, even though I truly do and can't express how much I do, while those who love the later ones can. :neutral
and it hurts me to see someone saying that the animators of the first sequels knew what they were doing, meaning that the animators of the later ones didn't. it's liek you generally saying that animation in later sequels is bad. and you think it doesn't hurt me to read such messages as a fan of the later sequels animation?

I think the animation of 2-4 was one of the greatest animations in history though, so I don't understand...why is there not a similar video for it?

because I don't find animation in the first sequels nearly as beautiful. There is almost nothing there I could, for example, make a screenshot of and set as my desktop backgroud. the artwork in the later sequels is simply stunning for me.
and the reason why I made that video was not to offend those who like the animation in the first sequels(I like that animation too, just not as much as the later ones), but just to demonstrate how much animation evolved FOR THOSE who only saw the first sequels and is unaware of the beautty of the later ones. My point is - all people know that the first sequels try to copy the style of the first movie, but most of people don't know about the later ones. I made that video for those people

Bruton the Iguanodon I never said animation of the newer sequels is closer to original in style. I meant the overall quality. I meant that the first sequels tried keeping the original style but in my opinion they mostly failed due to lower budget. While since 7-th on the other hand, the animation, while changed in style was better in quality
also you speaking about LBT 10 opening as if it was the whole movie. but in reality it was just a little part of it and you shoudn't judge the whole movie animation by a small part of it

well to me the look of those moves clearly loses...
the only movie which seems superiour to the movies since 7-th one is the original
first movies do have some beautiful things, but not nearly as beautiful as the ones from later sequels

not sure the link works but I made this vid long ago to demonstrate how beautiful LBT sequels(since 7-th movie) were

I really don't understand how can someone not like this animation. I think it's among the greatest animations in history

They started using more and more digital elements from LBT 7 on. Some people say it looks better, some though say it's horrible...

What do you mean digital erlements? all I can remember at the moment is the 3D mountain in LBT 7 opening and terrible-looking CG log Cera and her dad were pushing in LBT 9. Other than those extremely rare things almost all of it made in hand-drawn 2D animation. Sure it was drawn on computers later on but it's still hand-drawn, not 3D which is so popular nowdays or cheap-looking flash animation. LBT 7 and laters sequels are nothing like that.

Whoever did the art for the first three sequels knew what they were doing.

LOL the first 3 sequels? are you kidding? the first sequels looked very messy. They tried to be like the first movie but clearly didn't have the budget for that.  it's the 7-th movie where the animation got so much better and became much more detailed. That's when animators really knew what they were doing. They didn't try to be like the first movie, instead they made it different and more focused, more detailed than ever before

yeah I can cut sound out like that as well. Had to do it a few times with some other movies and shows before, hate when composers don't make soundtrack releases or don't put certain soundtracks in their release. thanks for your effort though! and yeah I would love to hear which soundtracks you can suggest, in a PM of course not to flood the topic

No way! I'll keep them in seperate folders(LBT is my favorite movie franchise) and make lots of copies throughout my PC and external hard drives  :smile  I don't trust online storages to be honest, there were a lot of times internet became unstable and turned off. I will cut off any possibility of losing these soundtracks!

it would have been absolutely awesome of you tried that :) though I myself aware of how much that can ruin the quality though. anyway, thank you again for the incredible soundtracks! I have just listened to my other favorite soundtracks from LBT 12(the sleepwalks a, e and f), they are just incredible and softened the blow from LBT 7 soundtrack not having the one I was looking for :D
Music was definitely one of the highlights of LBT 12

I can't say enough "thank you" to express how grateful I am for all this music! But... as it's always the case with soundtracks I love, one of my favorite soundtracks is not here. In LBT 7 when adults and children were deciding what to do after Ducky was kidnapped, that music is is not in there. it should be right after "the truth" soundtrack" is there there anywhere you could get it from

what makes them good? incredible animation(some of the best 2D animation in animation history, one of reasons I love these movies so much is because they kept it traditional instead of going into 3D like most of others did.)
absolutely amazing(occasionally) songs, outstanding voice acting(Jeff Bennett being my favorite), which, mind you didn't get worse even in the TV series. Decent storylines, not all of sequels of course, but most of them, had an interesting enough story, my favorite being Stone of Cold Fire
Great music. Again - my favorite was in Stone of Cold Fire. I'd even say the sequels pretty much surpassed the original movie. I do wish however they were a little darker, like original movie, movies 7 an 10, and weren't too light-hearted like movies 11-13 were

NewOrder great analysis! I only don't agree that it would take at least 3 months for snow to melt. There are many regions or Earth where Snow falls for a few weeks and quickly melts away, we have no idea how long it lasted. I think it was a few weeks. Other than that I agree, it should be AT LEAST 4 years, and judging by the age of the characters it doesn't seem that so much time had passed

35
Thomas Dekker all the way. Absolutely love Littlefoot's voice in my favorite sequels(7-9)
Edit- oh just found out Thomas Dekker was nominated for his voice acting in Stone of Cold Fire, as Well as Michael York for voicing Pterano

36
Ozzy, Sierra and Rinkus. Also I completely disagree that original movie sharptooth was evil. There was absolutely no indication that he was something else other than just a hungry predator.

I always thought he's a teenager. Judging by his size and voice.

General Land Before Time / Petrie's solos have got to go!
« on: January 03, 2016, 10:34:49 AM »
I completely disagree with everyone here. I absolutely love Petrie's voice and the times he sings(my favorite song "imaginary friends") are some of the best pieces of LBT for me. LBT would not be the same for me without his nice, cartoony, emotional voice
Jeff Bennet was even nominated for "imaginary friends" song

39
if you compre the first couple movies and the last ones, yes, they definitely grew, Not much, but yeah I think something like 3-4 years passed overall

General Land Before Time / Why Petrie doesn't sing during "Always there"
« on: January 03, 2016, 10:11:50 AM »
I love Petrie's voice, one of reasons he;s my favorite character. And I don't think it would have hurt the song if he sang it.
