Got back from seeing Star Trek Beyond.  Overall it was a pretty good film.  The trailers don't do this movie justice.  Yeah, there are some silly scenes but then again the Star Trek franchise has all sorts of silly stuff in it.  Without spoiling too much about the plot, the crew gets stranded on a strange planet after the Enterprise gets blow up (Bite me!  It's not a spoiler since they showed it in the trailer!).  The bad guy, played by Idris Elba, is... alright I guess.  I mean, he's better than Nero and Malcolm McDowell from Generations, but he's not quite Khan.  The visuals were impressive as always.  THe film was meant to serve as a tribute to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, and with the recent passing of Leonard Nimoy, they had a nice little scene that payed tribute to him as well as the original cast of Star Trek.  It's very subtle, but it's there.   What I really liked about the movie though were the references they made to Star Trek: Enterprise, a series that has been largely ignored and pushed to the curb up till now for some reason.  Overall, it was good.  In fact it was really one of the better Star Trek films in my opinion.  Go see it if you've got the time.

On one final note, I'll just leave this here.
