I've been having long talks with Kor these past few nights. and one thing I've learned is that he takes his RP's to heart
He's been trying to explain to me his problems with the RP forums, granted sometimes with a hint of depression and on occasion a high pitch of rage
But I think I see what he's been trying to point at, and frankly, its something I partially agree with
his problem is that he cant keep up with the RP's. there's too many posts in a day, and if he's gone only for a few hours those posts add up and become a pain to catch up on... most especially when your character becomes immobile those few hours and eventually fade from the RP due to how long you've been away from that RP
Kor has pitched to me how this could be controlled... we all need to post just a few times a day, but make sure not to post so much that other people get left out.
We need to leave room for everyone who's a big part of that RP
So what does everyone think on this issue?
My Opinion:
I kind of agree, only this problem really hasnt effected me too seriously... it only has effected me when I've been gone for a full weekend and when I get back, I have to read a whole bunch of posts and come up with a reason why my characters have been so idle. But this happens not only at GoF, its a common problem with forums everywhere. especially more popular forums (my friend Toby on here should know) where hundreds of people participate in RP based forums a day
-
I know how he feels. I've been kind of noticing that the rp's have been with probably two people only. I'm just really busy everyday with school and work and stuff. I guess I'm getting a little carried away with the rp's. I will try and limit my posts.
-
Quit posting and go outside. Why do I feel like I'm talking to my little cousins.
That aside, in my experience when they start the two player thing, let them go. Either they'll get it outta their system or they don't want another player. In either case, it's worth your time to bide your time.
Of course I'm used to RPs with a half dozen people. Generally two people ping pong posting will write themselves off by themselves and out of the RP. Thats been my experience anyway.

I've always felt bad about this, and have had it happen to me on some other forums, but soemtimes I get so caught up in posting, I forget to try and include other RPers. If we can find a good, solid solution that isn't too limiting, it might work.
-
This may sound harsh, but I say we post a limit on how many post can be held in a single day...My RP here is following that format so everyone can keep up, and it would only make sense and help others by doing this anyway....but that's up to Aves to decide.
-
This is partly why I never RP on fora, I usually RP on IMs/Chatrooms because they're laconic, and easily seen without update; so a post limit is fully understandable

a limit?.. how about common sense? just post two or three times a day to that RP and take a break
dont get so over indulged in that RP that it'd leave others far behind
how's that sound?
-
well when I say limit I refer to that as well, just a "chip in the motor" put in by oneself
-
Meh...I can follow common sense, but I wonder if anyone else will? Well..I'll guess we'll have to see huh?
-
That would be nice, I should introduce that concept to some other forums. Then again, the RPGs on those forums sometimes have over one hundred people with up to three characters each RPing in them, so it would be a little complex.
-
if someone seems to be posting to much, nudge them and inform them they're being excessive

I sense a teamwork method here

Well, in those RPGS, there's millions of little side stories going on, all over the place, and they all tie into the main story, but are disconnected enough that... well, you get several pages of things that are differant from what you posted. And don't even think about getting writer's block...
-
Actually I have a lot of characters. Only a dozen have been main characters that participated in RP's. My max I have been able to accurately portray in one story/RP at once would be 4. And that was just with this last era of characters.

Okay...I've made a personal decision...I will not be RP here for the next two days...and before you guys grab the pitchforks and torches...I actually have a reason...I'm behind on a college midterm and I can't afford to fail, so I'll still be here from time to time...but not that much! Sorry guys....
-
See you, TGVG!
Bacj on topic, I usualy RP two characters, occasionaly three. One good, and one evil. When I RP three, I RP two good characters, one male and one female, and then one male evil character.
-
I also won't be posting that much between the 19th and 21st. I have a six-page report to write up and I am only on my first third of the first page.

understandable, GVG.. good luck on your project
-
cya gvg. you shall be missed until you come back in full force.
-
I actually did have time to post as well as finish my assignment. However, I am slowing down my RP posting significantly now that this issue has been raised.
-
I'm glad everyone seems to be in agreement here.. I hope we're all satisfied in fact..
including you, Kor.. =P
