I'll post my review after I watch it later on tonight.  If you want to post your review, go ahead!  If you want, I'll put your review on the LBT archive if you put some work into it. :)

I got the DVD today. They didn't actually have "Good Times, Good Friends" at Wal-Mart, but I imagine they had around 36 DVDs of LBT 13. I got a $2 off coupon that allows me to "Save $2 now when you buy any The Land Before TimeÆ DVD," which I plan on doing as soon as I see "Good Times, Good Friends." I hope THAT will have a coupon I can use for "Amazing Adventures."

Anyway, down to the spoilers, which follow.

In my opinion, this is the least serious of the series yet. It basically turned into a huge laugh fest for me from the point that Doofa picked up poor old Cera and gave her a big old hug (a feat repeated later on, to my pleasant surprise :lol ) right to near the end. It was a pretty wacky adventure lacking a lot of more serious elements.

One thing I noticed ia that Grandma Longneck got more screen time in one setting than she has in a long time. She got a lot more than Grandpa Longneck, something that I don't see very often.

I also noticed a species of sharptooth I am not familiar with in the rest of the series. They group pretty much all meat-eaters with the collective name "sharptooth," so you can tell them apart with the name alone.

Another thing I noticed is that they spent a ridiculous amount of time in the mysterious beyond and quite a distance away from home, to boot.

They did convey across a few wrong messages, though (like, for example, if I always listened to myself and obeyed that "little voice in my tummy" whenever it told me to do something, I would be in a HUGE heap of trouble by now, and I would have done a lot of horrible things...).

Those were some of the longest songs I've ever heard in the series, probably because of the relatively long 'intermissions' they slapped into them. They were also kind of silly. I didn't actually find any real masterpieces in here. The first two are valuable only for their comical value, and the last one was a whole lot of 'meh' to me. It wasn't much good, in my opinion. It's the type of song I would want to pass in action9000's singing projects.

Am I the only one that knew that Foobie was the 'wise one' for pretty much the whole movie? Right from the start, he seemed somewhat intelligent compared to the other yellow bellies.

Nevertheless, it was the most comical  entry into the series, at least in my opinion. There were a few laugh points (Doofa always hugging Cera like that and telling here that she was "beautiful," something I might want to try myself, ha ha :lol )

My most favorite quote from the entire movie?
Quote from: Petrie on
That -- not -- funny!
Ha ha ha, classic! The circumstances surrounding the quote, of course, are what make it funny, in my opinion. :lol Goes to show that even that exists in the planet of The Land Before Time. :lol The "you tolded on me" was pretty good, too. I was just waiting for that to happen sooner or later.

I'll post more if I noticed that I forgot something. He he he. :lol

Thanks for the review.  It seems it was focused on comedy  instead of a mix of mainly serious with some comedy like the other movies I've seen.

There some serious moments, like the

sharptooth chases, but then again, there hasn't been an LBT movie to date to not feature them. I think the main focus was the sillyness factor.

So manny, did you like it overall?  How were the songs?  Worse than oops-eeps?

It was a pretty silly movie. The songs also reflected that, so whether the first two are "worse than Oops-Eeps" or not depends on the viewer, and I also have dislike for the last one for 'other' reasons....

Here's a one-sentence review for those that don't want to read my huge post:

It reminded me somewhat of LBT 9, only slightly less lame.

I guess 13, as I suspected, is categorized with the other movies that are more comedy then serious focused.

SPOIL!!!

Wait.. what am I spoiling again?

So, it seems the creators are taking a more 'Emperor's New Groove' route for the series, according to the reviews above. And longer and duller songs?    yes, this scares me a bit.

(I'm not putting the spoil text in anymore as I believe that people will have learned by now that this thread is filled with spoilers and that entering a review thread like this is bound to be a bad idea if you have not seen the movie)

The first two songs were comedic in nature (the second one, "Yellow Belly Bounce," even reminded me of The Lion King song "Just Can't Wait to be King") (and I don't like the last one in the slightest), so if you consider comedic songs a bad thing, then you'll probably view this is the worst set of songs in an LBT movie yet. I know I wasn't overly impressed, but at least the first two added to the comedic value of the movie.

So, was LBT 13 the 13th in the list of your favorites or is there another sequel that's worse in your opinion?
Title: Reveiw LBT 13 Here!
Post by: Manny Cav on November 28, 2007, 07:16:44 PM
Oh, no. I don't think that LBT 13 is bad at all. It set quite a different pace from the rest. It had a lot of smile points for me, which is more than can be said for some of them. Like I've said before, it was just generally a 'funny movie' type, something that LBT has thus far avoided. (for the record, my two least favorite LBT movies are the 6th and 9th ones, for reasons that would requite another topic altogether, as explaining it here would mess this thread up or send it to After Midnight...)
Title: Reveiw LBT 13 Here!

I must admit that this was different from what we usually see in LBT.  It was one of the silliest LBT movies I've ever seen, with THE longest LBT songs EVER!  Trust me, they were long!

Now, as for graphics, they were some of the best I've seen from LBT.  The 2D and 3D animation worked together VERY well.

As for the songs, I'm a bit disappointed.  They were good, but none were beautiful masterpieces like "Bestest Friends", "No One Has to be Alone", and others.  At least they were better than most of the songs in the TV Series, which is saying alot. :P:

Now for the BIG SPOILER!

The storyline was a crazy one.  I had a feeling from the start that Foobie was the Wise One of the herd of Yellowbellies. (Beipiaosauruses according to the box. (Okay, now the names REALLY don't make sense.)) With the intelligence they have, I'm surprised that Loofah knew to do the heimlich maneuver when Doofah was choking on some flower petals. Speaking of surprises, would you believe that they actually did a "fart joke" in this one?  Seriously, I did not expect that out of LBT... EVER!  Anyways, the storyline held tons of laughs to keep you entertained, which makes it rather enjoyable.

We definately see a unique species of sharptooth in this one. (One of which actually has a scar.) To be honest, I haven't seen anything like it to date.  They were somewhat impressive in the two fights, though I am somewhat surprised with one of the strategies used to defeat them. (Loud noises anyone?) In all, they were good, but there are better ones.

This was an entertaining movie.  One I wouldn't mind watching again sometime.

Oh, and on a final sidenote, I checked out the Bonus Material and found that there's an Episode from the TV Series on this disk.  It's "The Hidden Canyon".  Well, looks like that's another ep added to the list that I now have a copy of. (9 total thus far.)

Well, I'll see ya later!  Got TONS to convert, edit and put up to YouTube.

See ya later! :^.^:

When I heard the poot, I wasn't sure if I heard what I thought I heard, but when Petrie uttered those three faithful words, I knew then that is was as bad as I thought. I imagine the 'responsible one' was the one that happened to be sitting on poor Petrie and Ducky. :lol

I enjoyed this new sequal, though it doesn't seem to hold top spot for my favorite one. As usual the animation in this one seems a lot more better then number 12. Though oddly in the introduction of the movie they didn't have the roman numeral as they usually have.

I found the movie rather humorous, even those random "you're beautiful" from Doofah comments X3 The songs, the first one was good, the second one was very catchy to me though I didn't like that brief convo between loofah and Littlefoot right in the middle of it, and the third one oddly is my favorite.

Thanks.

I may enjoy watching it, and all it's sillyness.

Though it's silly, no reason there can't be a mainly silly movie. Though if the flow of the plot differs from previous ones to much it may upset some or many fans.

It depends on the movie with me.  Star Trek and the like I don't want spoilers.  Land before time it gives me ideas what to look forward to.  Star Wars, since episode 1 I want to get as many spoilers as I can to see if it's something I want to see or not.

I'm at that age where silliness shouldn't be the whole focus of film, yet apparent silliness reigns in this film..is there any connectivity to 12?

If one doesn't like the current direction of the series or the silliness, then perhaps that person has "outgrown" the series. And the only "connections" I noticed to LBT 12 werea few appearances by Tria.

I don't oftentimes like to view funny movies more than a few times.  I mean, it's only funny so many times and if that's the whole base of the story, I'm afraid this one might have to go at the bottom of the pile in my list of favorite LBT movies.  It has to have a good storyline and substance to be enjoyable.  LBT 6 didn't really have a good storyline and that's why I didn't like it too much.  I'm hoping they don't go the "silly" route with the series from now on.  The story is what makes a movie a movie.

Egad? Hey-ho?... goofball? muddle?

What kinda words are these? I can understand things like drippily because it's LBT... but egad hasn't been used in years... and Hey-ho... I don't even know what to say...

Flying into reeds and seeing a strange creature (seem familiar?)?

(I'm missing quite a bit since I decided to first try and watch it in Spanish for learning purposes)

these guys are as random as I...

this is redundant =\ =/

perhaps I'm judging too fast XD

could she really trip over Petrie if she could smash him?

was Littlefoot burying the last sharptooth really necessary?

I think one of the background characters... had a name change in Spanish...

I don't think dance breaks work too well in these...

what's the green for?

pixelated zooming! -.-

the word "tummy" is a poor song word... otherwise How Do You Know? is my favorite song in this movie

Flatulence still isn't funny

I think Doofah has Alzheimer's Disease

Feathers are strong!

They used up their 3 songs real quick, and didn't make a third one in this one like 11... but that left plenty of songless movie  :^.^:

Allusions perhaps

1 - Littlefoot getting a family member in danger... Finding a Utopian valley by strange instructions, using rocks to defeat carnivores, crossing a large, rocky area to find something, a large waterfall (I think), Mr. Topps doesn't have a large speaking role
2 - Basically having to take care of kids
3 - A large waterfall, a set of 3 semimain characters
4 - Echos as a plot device, Grandma being an even partially dynamic character, a large waterfall, a non-speaking guest-character
5 - crossing a large, rocky area to find something... ending in water
6 - Weather as a plot device (Tornado in this)
7 - Ducky falling from a cliff and being saved by a flyer
8 - Weather as a plot device (Snow in this)
9 - Leading irritating people to a place... odd singing...
10 - "Sleep Stories", using rocks to defeat carnivores, macroing, a large Waterfall
11 - Temperamental Cera, that opening music!
12 - Temperamental Cera, the opening sentence "our world has existed for billions of years", macroing, the don't wake up Cera rule, Ducky falling from a cliff

As best I can tell... in Spanish they replace "berry" with "ball" which is kinda comical... but it's partially because I don't know the word for berry and "bola" can mean ball

7/10

THIS JUST IN! The Spanish subtitles for the TV ep called Spike "Skipe" XD

The first movie was very serious in many ways... this one appears to be a joke (I haven't seen it yet, but am becoming... concerned.)

In 1997, I said that I would stay with the series to the end. I thought that it would be over by the year 2000. I was very wrong. I hope this one is a one-off comedy, as some of the TV episodes have been more serious than this thirteenth appears to be.

Okay, I finally watched it and I'll post a review later when I have more time (it's late over here).

Here is one thing that caught my eye though in the credits:
"Supervising Director: Charles Grosvenor.
Directed by Jamie Mitchell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0593420/)"

Looks like the LBT series is in the process of changing directors *yet again*... -_-

My quick review:
Not impressed.  I feel like I need to watch a 'real' LBT movie after seeing that (turns on LBT 2).  I'll probably watch it again at a later date, just to confirm my feelings for this movie but after one viewing, I can't say I was all that happy with it.

Bottom line: if you're a fan of classic LBT (moreso than the newer films), this probably won't appeal very much.

Here is my unaltered review

SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!

The thirteenth sequel was not totally up to my expectations.  It had a different “feel” than the other sequels.  The “yellow belly” creatures were a bit much.  The beginning song was okay.  I’d give it  a 6/10 score.  The end song was pretty good.  I’d give it an 8.5/10.  The funny level was mild at best, making me laugh 2 times in the entire film.  This is not a trend I wish Universal to repeat.  The animation is better than in other sequels, but it has a rushed look to it.  I did not like Loofa’s voice at all.  It reminded me of a show I saw that was pretty lame.  This was the first time we’ve ever seen a sharptooth use conductive reasoning by fallowing the “foot holes”.  The adaptations or “wisdoms” that the yellow bellies had didn’t have much thought put into it and to be honest, it seemed like it was targeted at a much younger audience (like 3 years younger than LBT 12 was).  The grass animation is something we’ve never seen before.  It was done rather nicely.  There were too many “Oh S***!” instances included in the film for my taste.  Cera’s behavior in this sequel was moderately over-exaggerated.  The film seriously lacked substance.  I wouldn’t rate it as low as a tv episode, but it was not very good.  I think it’s my second least favorite sequel, LBT 6 being my worst.  The middle song sort of made me sick to be honest.  One good thing though is that the gang wasn’t acting this way until they interacted with the yellow bellies, which makes me believe that the lack of seriousness and substance is mostly to blame on the odd creatures and not the way that the gang is developing (which is more than I can say for the tv series).  Overall, it wasn’t very good, but it was entertaining nonetheless and therefore it was worth the hefty $23.99 I had to pay for it.  I do hope Universal plans better next time though and puts more effort into the storyline in future sequels.  I give this entire movie a 7.2/10, while I give LBT 6 a 6.5/10.  They’re not very far apart in my book.  So far, I have watched each sequel at least a hundred times (several hundreds on the older ones), but I think this sequel will be lucky if I watch it more than 20 times in it’s lifetime.  I don’t think I’ll be able to use any clips in here for a music vid because the thing lacked substance and meaningful emotion so much.  Final note to Universal:

Next time, don’t spend all the time with the animation…get a decent story first!  You don’t frost the cake before you bake it!

Oh, and I'm crossing my fingers that it was the yellow bellies that made the sequel the way it was, not the development of the main characters.  Perhaps I'm being too hard on the sequel, but it's not what I expected at all.  I might change my mind after watching it again.

True, if they continue with 13 some may not mind, but many folks will be very upset.  Most folks dislike change and it'll be a pretty huge change in the series.

I truly prefer this far above 11, 6, and 7, I'd probably put it in my top 10, it wasn't horrible, and yes, while Cuba Gooding Jr. is a great comedian, and a great actor (IMO) I think his voice doesn't quite fit his part, it's too high pitched... however I laughed more than twice :p but it may be that I enjoy goofy humor, I mean the overall ditziness made for good comedy to me :p

and Action, when'll you have the songs up?

I think Tails_155 is talking about the songs sans the video, meaning simple MP3s.

Hi guys I just watched LBT 13 well... 3 times already since I got it yesturday lol. I love the songs and can't get them out of my head specail 'Say so' and 'Yellow Belly Dance'  :lol

I find it cool and enjoyable one of the best yet. I have to say that they did one little error when you see Petrie at the start, he seem to be almost one colour but other then that it was great and I loved the part Cera got picked up, that was really funny and my sister loved the part when Cera yelled and the yellow bellys all duck their heads into the sand.

Overall I give it a 9/10

Are any of these reviews really surprising after seeing the tv show?

(meant to be part sarcasm, part rhetorical)

I actually loved this movie it was nice to have a change of pace of the others tickling a sharptooth (LBT 11 and 12) :P:  This was actually one of my favorites from the LBT series. Maybe I'm into the comedy movies and that's one of the reasons I liked it. I'm a pretty easy going critic when it comes to movies. Out of 10 stars with 10 being the best I would say I give this 8/10 stars. Not, bad not great but really really good. I especially liked Cera's Quote.

Yes, I think that's why so many love this movie.  It's not as childish as a tv episode and that's all we've had recently. I'm not saying it was horrible, but a better storyline would've been nice.
