As for the gamepad, all you have to do is disable the data execution prevention temporarily and maybe the firewall.  Most of the time though, it tells you that it failed the test and asks you if you wanna go ahead and install anyway.  The webcam I'm sure you can download the drivers from the site.  I guess it'd be best to get the CD though.  Walmart is nasty for that sorta thing.  Whenever I buy any electronic from there, I always open it up and check the contents after checkout before I leave the store.  Nothing that's not "Microsoft" or other associated brand won't pass windows xp's logo test.  Ya just have to bypass it.  It's worse with vista. -_-

Brands such as micron and other non "name brands" won't pass.  An HP or a microsoft gamepad would have passed instantly. <_<

I wouldn't know what driver to install for it though. We're going to Walmart tomorrow anyway to exchange it.

As for the gamepad, it's supposed to be compatible with Windows (XP included). When I tried to install it, it came up with a warning stating that the performance of the computer could be compromised if I installed it.

Does the manufacturer have a web site you can look for a new version of a driver?  I think some do that.  I know little of pc's so that is about all I can suggest.

I got the gamepad to work.

However, the webcam won't. I downloaded the drivers for it, and briefly got it to work, but when I unplugged it, the computer would not recognize it anymore when I try to plug it back in. I tried to repeat what I did earlier, but nothing.

Apologies for the belated wishes. I've been running double shifts at work all week so had hardly any time to myself  :cry2

Anywho, congrats on another personal rotation around the sun. Sorry to hear about your father but best wishes to you, him and your family.  :^.^:

Do a system restore and set your comptuer back a day or two before you tried to install the webcam.  Oh and BTW, when you unplug some usb devices, they will recognize as "new hardware" even if they're installed if you plug them into a different port. <_<

This sometimes happens to my laptop's built in camera and microphone, despite the fact that it is built-in to the top of my laptop and not plugged into a USB port.

thats the result of a serious driver conflict if it won't recognize when it connects manny.

99% of the time, it's a perfectly, fully functional and operational device. It just quirks up occasionally.

I think a big HUH is in order for that second line.  :rolleyes:  I have never seen a computer do that....never, if the thing has been installed once.

Well then you must not be using cheap brands. :P: Notice that I said SOME usb devices.  A cheap flash drive of mine and a off brand wireless reciever do that all the time.  Pain in the butt. :rolleyes: I know tons of people with cheap printers and they do that too.  Now that's a REAL pain!  Having to pop the CD in if you change usb ports. :rolleyes:  Most name brand products don't do this though (ie. HP, Toshiba, Altec, Lexar, Belkin, and others I can't think of).

That's a good sign then. :)

Also, we've kind of hijacked a birthday thread about computer talk.....  :o

LOL Yeah. ^^;

And LBTLover, I did get a cheap brand of webcam because I did not want to have mom spend $24 on the more expensive webcam that they got. She is picky about how much she spends, and she didn't have that much money on her.
