I'm pretty sure the Academy Awards go for ALL movies in America. After all, Disney has won some with their animated movies, so I don't see why Universal couldn't at least be nominated with their's.

Besides, at least being nominated is quite the honor. :^.^:

The award may have been a smaller-scale award, such as those normally given to animated films released directly to video, otherwise this song would certainly be more well-known. Still though, any award is better than no award!
