Post by: DarkHououmon on April 29, 2006, 02:43:23 PM
There's something wrong at FF.Net. I can't seem to log in at all. Everytime I click on log-in, it never loads up. Everything else on the site works fine. But the log-in just won't function. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? And does anyone know what might be the problem?

I am having that same exact problem.  I've been trying for days to upload chapter 4 of Eragon Vs. the Ultimate Evil II and I can't get to the support page.  I am having the same problem with fictionpress.com which is run by ff.net.  Fictionpress's support page has been down since September and they never have fixed it.  I've heard several proplr complain about this problem.  How are we supposed to upload if we can't even report the stupid problem?  I got sick of waiting on them so I just posted the next chapter on my website.

I figured why so many people haven't been writing the next chapters for there fan fictions. isn't there another site where we can create fan fictions other than out own web sites?

Your own website gives you creative control...something I've heard FF doesn't in all circumstances.

Well i have been looking for a idea for a new website any ways and will be getting a domain etc on powweb in a few weeks. Sense there are so many restrictions and isues with these fan fic sites i doubt it would be to terribly hard to set up a fanfic site. I make it a more general fanart/fanfic site with a entire section devoted to land before time and other animated films. Prob have various catagories like animated films live action films and series (seen a number of stargate star trek etc fanfics out there on the web) Then add sub sections to each main section like

Fan fics
live action
live action series and live action films
series
stargates
under stargates
stargate sg1
stargate atlantis
stargate freeform ( a catagory where fan fics not about one of the current series can be put)
Then under animation
films
land before time (only fics about chars found in films)
series
land before time (all related fan fics about charectors in series)
land before time free form (any fics for chars not directly based on films or series)

There would be many other sections and sub sections to of corse.
Then fan art section with sim sub sections broken down by art type computer generated hand drawn vids etc.

I dont think there is really any site out there that covers fan fics fan art etc. Will also have a animation and film news area. Forums as well of corse.

At first i can run it pretty much on my own though help would be welcome if any one is intrested in helping out a bit.

not really. Got to remember most of theese fan fic and art sites are configured more or less like forums. I could do most of if not all of it with my current gallery system. It handles non image files as is. ive not tessted video clips or text fles yet. may upload a txt file and see what happens now infact.

yep works no preview but prob some setting to view the gallery you need a account in this case but heres the link for thoose with a account
http://lbft.spellbound-guild.com/lbft/main...em&g2_itemId=96 (http://lbft.spellbound-guild.com/lbft/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=96)

heres what you see though
 Full size: Document
Download document

On the gallery page you see any images in that gallery and a link for the document
I just put ina bunch of nonsense in the file to see if by chance it would show a preview.

So at this point you could upload fan fics just fine but i revomend not doing it at this point.

In 3 weeks to a months or so im getting a domain and 2 years hosting at powweb and will check on other gallery type web apps. So if this package wont preview docs ill be changing what i use and likely no importing existing stuff.

yeh its one of those things thats hard to explain (esp for me to do the explaining lol) and sounds more complex than it really is.

How many sub sections etc such a site will have if i set it up is hard to tell. Ill start with as few as possible and add when various spin off shows and fanfics get posted about etc. Like forums it can be expanded to meet the needs tha users have. The hardest part is predicting their needs and trying to expand before they request it. I tend to use high post counts on my personal forum settings in most forums i do 50 posts per page with 50 replies to a post per page others will use more or less than default. So i may not see a need for a new section do to that while  other users will see the need as they cant just open the pag and see one about their fav show series etc.

When ill need help is when theres alot of users and forum posts. As this will atract trolls and spammers trying to sneak in a post about the latest little blue pill substitute. Alot of these types of spammers get paid per forum post  etc

The site won't come up for me at ALL!  :mad

Friggin' FF.Net admins, can't get up off their lazy bums and fix a problem. Probably too busy playing World of Warcraft.

Earth to FF admins: Nobody cares about your elf mage whatever raising a level, we need to make stories!!

They have enough time to randomly delete good stories, why can't they do someting productive? ARRGH!
Fanfiction.Net isn't what it used to be.

Not all problems can be fixed so quickly. Just because this problem hasn't been solved yet does not mean the admins are not working on it. Have some patience.

Fanfiction.Net isn't what it used to be.

The only time a story is deleted is if they violated a rule. I've been on FF.Net since late 1999 (my account says I registered in 2001, this is an error due to my account being frozen due to lack of activity) and I've never witnessed any random deletions.

I have seen what FF.Net used to be like. It used to allow almost any kind of submission, but over the years the site has grown stricter due to bandwith problems.

Same thing with me. Most likely due to bandwith problems. This is not the first time I've seen FF.Net temporarily go down. It'll probably be back up soon.

UPDATE: The site appears to be working again. At least for me.
