I often ignore the small flaws in films, and for the most part I did/do not care about the flaws in LBT, but it does effect what score I like to give to it. And there really arnt many flaws in LBT. And yes, most of the flaws I believe to be due to the executive meddling, so that is kind of a disappointment. But I still love the film for what it is

General Land Before Time / Let's Play The Land Before Time Video Games
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:04:16 AM »
Hey. I'm currently going through and LPing all the Console/Handheld LBT games. I have currently LP'd 2/5 but am working on Lping the other 3 over the coming months.

LP1: The Land Before Time Return to the Great Valley:
http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=C6ADA52AA4FF5512

I did this Let's Play BEFORE I re-watched the first and 5th LBT (as well as before I decided to watch the rest) and basicly doing this Let's Play actually inspired me to watch the films and eventually do a let's play of all the LBT games. This is why know very little about the series in this Let's Play (But my friend knows a bit). Anyway, this is a PS1 game released in 2000. It's pretty terrible.

LP2: The Land Before Time (GBA):
http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=8855A472A16329A0

I did this LP after watching the 1st and the 5th movies again,  so I know a little more in this Let's Play. This was a Land Before Time game released on the GBA in 2001. It's actually not that bad

I'll give people the heads up when I start to LP the other games

Nicely done. It's rare to find a review of this film that doesn't either crucify it because of its flaws, or gush about how great it is and ignore its flaws. You got a nice inbetween, it seems. You stated how you loved it, but didn't avoid pointing out the flaws. Not to mention, you did a good job of explaining the reasons behind the flaws, namely the choppy editing.
I'll be interested in your part 2. I did see Dinosaur, but I remember almost nothing of it.
Thanks. It's really nice to get some feedback on this review and i'm happy that you agreed and enjoyed it. Basicly everything I did point out in the review was the only problems I have with it, and it's very rare for a film to have all problems picked out of it in a short period of time, so yes I do really love the film.

And that's good to know, I've been kind of lazy with the part 2, but I shall get it up within a few days. As I said at the start of part 1, I thought I saw dinosaur when I was really little but it turned out I didn't, so it isn't quite as nostalgic for me as LBT.

And the reason that I didn't give LBT a 10/10, despite it being ranked somewhere in my top favourite films, is because it does have flaws, and the plot is too simple for some people. If I were to have all of my top 20 favourite films as 10/10 then LBT is probably a 10/10 :)

1988 Theatrical Release / My review of the movie

Hey everyone. I made a video to share my thoughts on the original Land Before Time on my youtube account and also plan to review the sequels sometime in the future. My Land Before Time review is Part 1/2 of my LBT-Disney's Dinosaur videos where I will compare the two films to see how much Dinosaur ripped off and which one is the better film in the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIFJJBJPRrc...nel_video_title

I do a summary of the film and add in the problems I have with the plot (pretty much ANY problem at all I point out, so don't watch the video and think that I have a problem with the film in general, because I really don't, it's just that I wanted to point out the parts where I believed the film was lacking) plus the things that I really liked. I have so much else to say on the movie, but of cource I had to fit it into a 15:30 video (I do not have unlimited time limit on my channel)

Here's my review of dinosaur/the comparison: (Part 2)

Enjoy!

for TV shows, I like Southpark, Futurama, and Mystbusters.

I used to like Disney movies, but the recent ones just don't seem the same as great ones from just 5 or 10 years ago. I LOVE Pixar movies though.
I have to agree with you there. All 3 of those shows I really like. And with Disney, they have much variety in there work these days. It's basicly like saying you don't or you do like Universal films these days. But yes, I seem to like any Pixar film I watch, I have yet to see "Up", "Cars" or some others of their films.

Back to LBT, I've fell into the trap of the LBT sequels it seems. I started off watching LBT 4 and liking it as much as LBT 5. Then I decided to watch LBT 7, and I find it somewhat enjoyable. Then I watched LBT 2 and 3 and thought that they were..not so good. Now that I've seen 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 it is time for me to watch 6 and 8.

General Land Before Time / How old were you?
« on: May 28, 2011, 01:17:35 PM »
I saw the first film from anytime between 1997 when I was 2/3 till 2002 when I was 7. I really have no clue but I know I saw it when I was at a young age XD. Never really got into the series or talked about it or anything until a week and a half ago when I watched the first movie again. And now i'm losing interest again.

I hardly watched any Disney films when I was younger. My friends and I were chatting about what Disney films we've seen and I had probably only seen about 1/20th of Disney films or less. I watched about a quarter of the disney movies made in the 90s though. It kind of meant that the films I did watch had more of an impact on me though. With LBT I watched it and then pretty much forgot about it until this year, and I'm glad I did unbury the series.

I was a moderate fan of the pokemon anime when I was young (5-8 years old), I watched it whenever I could but I didnt end up seeing too many episodes. There were quite alot of cartoons I watched when I was younger though, but probably not as much as some people. I know I was a big fan of "Arthur" and "Lilo and Stitch: The animated series" for some reasons. I think I liked the humour in Arthur and I liked all the characters with different abilities in Lilo and Stitch.

well yeah, mainly because I'd rather spend my time talking to people on the net and watching things on the net.

Anyway, I think Ive talked enough about me. What cartoons do some of you guys like apart from LBT?

Well I agree that people shouldnt judge something just because it is a cartoon. I like many annimated movies (I wouldnt be here if I didnt), theres just alot of annimated films and shows that are really just made for a younger audience, and I can not be interested in the plot, humour or characters. I don't mind childrens cartoons as much as some people though, I can tolerate them and like them sometimes.

Also, to be honest, I dont watch much TV in general anymore.

When I was about 11 or 12 I wanted to create a character name and eventually came up with Crasnex (Pronounced Craz-neks). I really use it just as an account name because I can remember it and I know it isnt taken. Thanks for asking :)

Well put Malte.  I don't really care if I ever see the cut scenes or not, the feeling of nostalgia I get watching it the way it was shown to me as a child is enough for me.
Well yeah you at least have that. I just want to see it again the way I used to see it as a child, but that might just never happen.
So I assume you saw the uncut version?

Well thats true. If I were to watch the uncut version it would simply be bacause I wanted to see what Bluth was trying to do, not for nostalgic reasons. I would immagine that if people did find the uncut version and were watching it that it would make Bluth a happy man, and thats another reason why I would like to see it.

I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it and the cut movie is the movie that gives me a nostalgia kick

besides GOf what other cartoons do you like?
I don't want many cartoons anymore. I do like some annimated movies but mainly Ive grown out of cartoon TV shows. There are probably some that I would like if I tried them, but I really don't try to watch any anymore. I heard Secret of Nimh was good so I might go try that out but I doubt it will have the same effect as if I watched it as a child.

General Land Before Time / Marzgurl Discusses TLBT Movies
« on: May 22, 2011, 08:12:43 AM »
I'm going to be perfectly honest and say that her retrospective actually brought me back to the series and I wouldnt be here if it werent for that. Before I saw her retrospective, I wasnt sure which movies I had seen and hadnt seen, and I was really unaware what happened to the Land Before Time Movies (All I knew was that I saw a land before time movie as a little kid and then another when I was 9 about a dolphin called big water or something). So yeah, I have to thank her, really. It is unfortunate that she kind of ruined the first movie for me, It really would have had more of an effect if I saw the first movie without watching anything from it for 12 years.

She is kind of nit picky with the sequels though. I watched LBT 5 without seeing her review first (I saved it so It didnt spoil it for me) and it was better than she made it look in her review. She really only pointed out the negative stugg and a very few minor positives.

I guess you're right. But I wouldn't of minded as much if the original version was released later on as an extra on DVD or something. But instead it's pretty much lost forever. Maybe the series wouldn't have been as successful if it was PG and probably many of us wouldnt have seen it. I am still very disappointed. I'll get over it though, I still love the cut version :D
