General Land Before Time / Some questions about "The Stone of Cold Fire"
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:13:11 PM »
@ Jansenov: Yes it is interesting to ponder on the motives and characters of the rainbowfaces. I actually had never thought about them being teenagers just messing with the clueless earth creatures before. That's a new idea.

I thought perhaps they were aliens who were trying to help the inhabitants of another planet advance for whatever reason. I don't know if that would be is realistic or not  <_< for beings from another planet to just be that altruistic, but that was how I interpreted why they came to earth and encouraged the dinos to try to look "beyond the mysterious beyond" and to seek new knowledge and enlighten themselves.

I saw it as them acting kind of like "teachers" or "helpers" of the earthlings from outer space. They wanted to teach and help the dinos and that was why they went along on the adventure with gang, watching over them them from afar, making sure they saw the "investigation" of  the blue stone to the end, and making sure they got help when needed, which is why they taught them about using steam to build a makeshift elevator in with a rock in the volcano. However, they can't teach them too much because "that would be telling", making it too easy for the earthlings, and the rainbowfaces wanted them to learn and discover things for themselves.

General Land Before Time / Some questions about "The Stone of Cold Fire"

LBT 7 is my favorite sequel for a number of reasons but I can definitely see where it does not "feel" like an LBT movie. Still, I was never that bothered by the presence of aliens in this one as much as I was by a plot element in LBT 10- the one with all the longnecks having the dreams telling them to go to the crater valley in order to catch the sun on their heads to stop the end of the world. Whaaa? For me, that, and not the aliens, was when the series jumped the shark, and that's a big reason why LBT 10 is my least favorite.
I think it's because no one has ever proven that aliens (and possibly ghosts, depending on your interpretation of certain events in the original and LBT 6) do not exist, and plenty of people believe that they do exist, and sometimes we even have valid reasons to think so. If aliens could exist now, they could certainly believably exist in the LBT dinosaur's time. We do however, know that having prophetic dreams and catching the sun on a carbon based lifeform's face (not that i believe that actually happened in LBT 10) is impossible, so that one was for me, too much in the realm of fantasy and thus the most unacceptable LBT plot element.

General Land Before Time / Some questions about "The Stone of Cold Fire"

I think that since the farwalker herd leader said that the rainbow faces had joined up with the herd some time ago the blue stone that Littlefoot had just seen the other night could not have been their spaceship. Perhaps it was a meteorite with unusual properties (and unexplained, but hey, that fits in with the theme of not knowing everything there is to know in this movie right?) which is why it exploded and was blue and all, but was not a spaceship at all.

The rainbow faces liked to encourage dinos to gain new knowledge. They probably just made up the idea of the Stone of Cold Fire to intrigue the others for precisely this purpose, so that some of them would try to investigate.

General Land Before Time / Why Do You Like LBT?
« on: August 01, 2014, 07:08:30 PM »
There are a lot reasons. I like following the gang- all of whom are likable characters- on all their adventures. I like their friendship and the lessons that they learn. I like the songs ( the vast majority of them anyways). There is nostalgia as well. And I like dinosaurs.

Also, I am a child at heart (not a bad thing, as long as I am an adult in brain), so the series being directed primarily at children isn't much of an impediment.

General Land Before Time / An interesting idea on LBT 11
« on: June 21, 2014, 11:47:44 PM »
@ Ducky123 Yes I think speciesism is present all throughout the series whether it is a part of the main plot of each individual movie or not. I would say this is more realistic because in real life it can be hard to stamp out racism and we still have not totally gotten rid of it yet although we have made great progress, which is the same as in the world of the LBT movies too.

On the other hand, it did end up bringing back the subject of racism, which had all but disapeared ages ago, after the departure of Roy Allan Smith.

That's not really true. LBT 5 also touched upon the subject of racism (or specieism) a bit in regards to the prejudices the gang had about sharpteeth. Also, while it was less obvious, I do believe in LBT 8 Tippy's mother seemed somewhat bothered at first by Spike living with an adopted family of a different species.

General Land Before Time / Favorite movie 5 son?
« on: May 30, 2014, 06:03:42 PM »
Definitely "Always There" is the greatest song in LBT 5. I think this song is one of the best in the whole series. It is probably the close second favorite of mine next to "No One Has to be Alone" (or close third if you count "If We Hold On Together"). It seems a lot of the slower softer LBT songs are great.

General Land Before Time / Customs/traditions in LBT
« on: May 22, 2014, 06:20:54 PM »
The Great Valley Dinos do celebrate a number of "holidays" throughout the series. We have:

The Time of Great Giving-where they share food and water.
Nibbling Day- where they share the treesweets off of a pretty and probably really tasty tree when it blooms.
The Great Day of Flyers- a festival day of flyers where young flyers give a synchronized flight demonstration in front of judges to show they are ready to fly with the adults.
The Bright Circle Celebration-a seemingly religious kind of celebration where the dinosaurs worship the Bright Circle in the hopes of having a longer summer.
The already mentioned Hatchday/ Starday celebrations which seem to be like birthday celebrations.

Also they have certain stories, like the legend of the Lone Dinosaur, and relating to it, the superstitious beliefs surrounding Saurus Rock about bad luck if anything happens to the "monument".

General Land Before Time / WORST LBT Song Ever!
« on: May 22, 2014, 05:39:59 PM »
I guess I'll go with Chanson D'Ennui. I'm sorry but adding a song about being bored is not a good idea for a movie, which is suppose to entertain. (Would be better if the song about boredom was not so boring in itself)

Eh, I dunno. I mean, I don't hate characters, and they are kinda cute, but their use as a plot device is so blatantly executed that's it hard to overlook for me
As a fan of LBT 6, I know the twins aren't the most developed characters but was their use as a "plot device" not useful? Their running off to Saurus Rock is what drives the conflict of the rest of the movie (the bad luck beliefs) and they do provide an oppurtunity for character development for one of the protagonists (Cera learning to be responsible with them) so they did still add to the story.

Unless your problem was that they showed up and then never came back. However, you can say that for a lot of the guest characters in the movies.

General Land Before Time / Songs you liked as a kid but not anymore
« on: April 01, 2014, 09:40:53 PM »
I can't think of a LBT song that I hate right now. One that I like less though, is You're One of Us Now from LBT 2. Something I hadn't noticed as a kid was how the characters in this song sometimes talked and sometimes sang, and that is just not something I like much as an adult. The worst sounding lines have to be the first line where Littlefoot says "As an egg you were a beauty but now you're a real cutie" and then sings "and we've brought you to our valley somehow", and the line in the middle where he speaks "Don't forget. He's just a baby." and then sings "You don't want to frighten hiiiiiim. Just a baby you don't want to frighten hiiiim." This half singing/ half talking style just really irks me.

Anyways, I still do like this song a lot in spite of it sometimes bothering me so it doesn't matter that much if I like it less now than when I was a kid.

Character Discussion / Bron
« on: February 18, 2014, 06:43:27 PM »
I don't know if anybody has suggested this already, but regarding Bron's apparent lack of search for Littlefoot in the Great Valley, I thought maybe Bron had searched there and did not find Littlefoot. Maybe he arrived at the Great Valley before Littlefoot and his friends in the original movie- and as well as the other adults as well because he did not meet up with Littlefoot's grandparents either.
I know it is kind of a stretch to believe because Bron began his search long after Littlefoot and the others but being an adult probably means Bron could move faster than kids (the gang) to the Great Valley, and since he was probably traveling alone, it is also possible for him to travel faster than the grownup's herd, because traveling in a herd means you have to wait for everyone to rest and eat, and make they keep up, and things that take up time.

I've always felt that the way Bron said he going to bring his entire herd to the Great Valley to visit at the end of LBT 10 meant that he had been there before and he knows the way. However, since he got there before Littlefoot he did not find his son and so moved on to search for him somewhere else. It was only then that Bron's herd own began to form and to try to answer another question about Bron- why he was unable to go to the Great Valley with Littlefoot at the end of LBT 10- I think it was because Bron's herd at this time is too big. He does mention he had to leave some of his herd behind during the longnecks trip to the crater valley so we never see the size of the entire herd; maybe Bron's herd is too big a population for the Great Valley to support for a long time. They could only visit but not stay.

Mr. Thicknose, the gang's wise old teacher. His story arc, about wanting admiration and fibbing to earn respect and learning a lesson from that seemed pretty unique to me. He certainly was more interesting than the other guest character of the movie, Tippy, although the latter appeared more in the marketing for LBT 8.

General Land Before Time / Most Epic Sequel
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:25:35 PM »
For me, the definition of "most epic" means that one, the story where the most characters are involved on the largest scale, and two, the one that adds the biggest changes to the story.

So considering that, I'll go with LBT 5 as the most epic. It was the first movie where the Great Valley, the paradise once thought to never run out of food or water, is left barren, and the characters have to leave, wonder around in the Mysterious Beyond, and are threatened with splitting up into separate herds, much like how they were in the beginning of the original movie.

Then the kids discover the sea-well, the Big Water, the Mysterious Island, and a swimming sharptooth for the first time. Then they reunite with Chomper-the only guest character to reappear in the films excluding cameos. Then some other exciting things happen, which while not new, are still quite well-done (the chase scene and the fight scene in the climax). At the end, the gang becomes friends with adult sharpteeth for the first time.
So even though things mostly went back to normal after this, overall, I think movie 5 was the one that introduced the most new elements involving the whole Great Valley herd so it is the most epic.

Hi everyone, thank you for all the welcomes  :wave I don't know yet if I could reply to you all individually so I will do so in a post one by one

@ bushwacked- Hello. No genres in particular, I generally could work with anything I view. Unless animation counts as a genre; I mostly like all the animated movies I see. The rest of them drama, fantasy, sci-fi, action, etc, may be either hit or miss with me. Maybe my views might change when I become older or something.

@ Mumbling - Hi Iris!
:wave I hope to see you around too.

@ Pterano- Aww, thank you I'm glad you like my username. I like yours as well as I also love Pterano.

 :)

@ Kor- No favorite movies because it is hard for me to choose favorites a lot of the time. My very favorite Land Before Time characters are the five protagonists although I like- most of all the characters in general.

@jansenov- I mean it; people on this site hardly argue when they disagree. On IMDB-and on other forums I have seen- it's quite different, sometimes annoyingly so.

Thank you and I'm glad to hear. I wouldn't call myself a movie expert either, just a movie fan, who likes them and still has a lot to learn, and so I'm happy to meet and talk to other film buffs.

@LettuceBacon& Tomato- I like your "LBT" username too. :D
If you want the longer explanation of the original name behind this name, it goes something like this: I was thinking of how I wanted other people to view me when they talked to me (when I was signing up for IMDB some years back), and I thought that I wanted them mostly to see me as a person who is colorful (as in interesting) and sweet (as in kind).  So I thought up a name that would-playing on some puns- express being "colorful" and "sweet" and came up with rainbow-honey.

Thank you for the greetings and I'll try to have more time to post.

@ Malte- Thank you it's a pleasure to meet you.

The Welcome Center / Hello, nice to meet you
« on: February 12, 2014, 02:49:48 PM »
Let me introduce myself as a longtime fellow fan of The Land Before Time series as well as of movies and TV in general. I often visit the IMDB boards to talk about movies with other online fans, but on that site, I didn't have anyone to chat about the LBT series with, because except for the board of the original, all the boards of the LBT movies there are not very active. Which was a shame, because being such a long series there was plenty to talk about.

So I went looking for another site recently, and found The Gang of Five. I have been hanging around reading it for a while, especially liking the General Discussion Board, and I must say I think this is one of the friendliest (and most polite and least opinionated :) ) forums I have encountered on the Internet. I didn't join before because I didn't think I would have much time to actually become a talking member but now I think I would like to try. My username on IMDB is rainbow-honey so when I came here in reference I translated that into the "Land Before Time language" and made up SkyColor-TreeSweets (the latter half being the closest variant I could think of :smile ) as a username.

Anyways, this is getting kind of lengthy, so here I am. I hope that you will like having me and I will make good friends with you.
