Something campion ask.

No one knows me here but hey, I'm bored. Ask me about anything, personal or not personal. About movies, games, or anything like that.

What's your favorite movie and video game?
There was once a time when "The shining" was my favorite movie, but that's kinda changed. One of my all time favorite directors would have to be John woo, who made my number one favorite film "The Killer." It combined some of his best elements, and truly tore at my heartstrings. The first 10 minutes sets up the plot very well, and just the overall idea is dramatic. Watching The land before time again made me think about what can make an animated movie shine, but it hasn't trumped my love for The Killer. Bullet in the Head may have gotten unforgivingly cruel half way, and it was a good film as well, but that seemed big budget compared to The Killer. It sucks that so little people know about it.

As for my favorite game, Resident Evil 2 and Another world tie up. If push came to shove, Another world would have it. Both the game and it's creator (Eric Chahi) have inspired me in so many ways that it's not even funny.

haha, oh youu

I have read every page of watership, analyzed them like crazy, read the "sequel" fully, watched all three of the seasons of the show completely, and probably seen the movie about 40 times. This also includes the making of's and whatnot. I have read just about every watership fanfic available on fan fiction.com, and have stumbled across the more "adult" creations of the material. The only thing I await now is the inevitable CG reboot, which I know will happen. It just will..

Which do you like better? The Watership Down movie or tv series?
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 06:46:48 PM
The TV series, most definitely, it just has so much more to offer, but I will say that the movie got me into everything. However, when I finally got my hands on the book, I started to like the movie a little less, but it still has it's place for me.
Title: Ask
Post by: Adder on February 16, 2011, 06:48:23 PM
Is the tv series a sequel to the movie or does it happen at the same time as a spinoff? Because several characters from the movie that died are in the show (like Gen. Woundwort and Blackavar for example), that was what confused me in the first episode.
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 06:53:13 PM
The series is a complete take on the book itself and is in it's own universe. It even has some small hints of things from the second watership book, which I did catch on further inspection. Things like this and the actual references it does use from the first book are entirely missed from the absolutely bizarre fandom that watership has. Everyone just rips it apart for being a cartoon and making blackberry a female.

There's a second? I thought there was only a first book, then ten shorter books, Tales from Watership Down or something like that.

But I'd have to say I prefer the movie over the tv series so far, I've only seen the first episode and the two with the weasel, the second was rushed, how could six rabbits kill a weasel that big by jumping on it? :bang
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 07:02:49 PM
Because, for one, the kill wasn't even on camera, and for two we're talking about bigwig, the mighty warrior who stopped woundwort and actually introduced fear into his soul. If you doubt him being able to kill a weasel, you don't even know who he is.

Bigwig is the original Campion, and a rabbit take on 007 and other spy fiction

Campion, I do not think, was killed in the movie. However, of note, is that most of the efrafa rabbits do look the same, apart from Chervil (if I remembered him correctly) Campion actually didn't have a vital part in the movie as the other captain's did, but still played as Woundwort's silent go-to

Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 08:48:54 PM
You know what? What the hell. Go CG. we've already got a crap load of the series and people would just complain if it looked cartoony again. I don't know how a sequel could be made considering watership wraps itself up. I think the main draw for the film was that it was about rabbits killing each other and dying. All they would have to do is keep the tone and do that by about x2 and it would become a cult classic again today, regardless if it's good or not. That's what the film was back in 78, and I think it would break new ground today as a cg film in 2011 or whatever.

Who is your favorite character from the Watership Down franchise?
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 09:42:32 PM
I do too, but we need something to bring a spark to CG like watership did for animation.

Now, my favorite character? Campion of course... I admit, I really liked Bigwig in the book, but he just seemed a little too overpowered to win me over. Campion did it for me, because he belonged to a flawed force. He knew it was flawed, but it was what he grew on, and woundwort was important to him. Eventually he was noticed by watership and had to play spygames with woundwort and his rival Vervain. When things started to finally make sense for him, disaster struck, and at the breaking point, he sacrificed himself for woundwort. (spoilers) He is brought back by the black rabbit himself, but his death alone effects EVERYONE, and woundwort even mourns his death. Not only that, but it brought him a realization about himself. I think Campion is a force more than just an individual.

Gen. Woundwort mourns :o

Does Campion live in the tv series too? It says he does on Wikipedia and Watership Down Wiki, but you know how reliable they can be without references. :rolleyes

Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 09:50:39 PM
Yes, he does live, but at one point he dies. He is brought back by the black rabbit with the command of ending woundwort. Eventually some things happen (i won't say anything) and he does get to settle down in the end.

I read this on Watership Down wiki:

Quote
In the animated series, Campion sees that Woundwort's leadership is destroying Efrafa, but is torn between his feelings for the free ways of Watership Down and his loyalty to his chief rabbit. In the end, Campion turns against Woundwort to save his friend's warren, yet sacrifices himself to save Woundwort from a falling rock. Surviving miraculously but with terrible scars and losing an ear, Campion is touched by the Black Rabbit of InlÈ and is tasked with stopping Woundwort. Feeling empty and half-dead, Campion's will to live is returned thanks to the love of Blackberry. He finally settles with her on Watership Down.

Apparently he is killed in the rockslide that nearly killed Gen. Woundwort and he ends up killing Gen. Woundwort after the black rabbit saves him, but it doesn't say how. And didn't you say Blackberry was a male in the movie?

But if Campion betrays Gen. Woundwort, why would he have tried to save him? Or was he still torn between the two families?

I'm going to have to watch it sometime so I can find out myself, maybe tommorow, its getting late here (9:00 is late according to my parents on school days :rolleyes ).
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 16, 2011, 10:14:25 PM
Campion did not kill woundwort, and blackberry was a male in the movie.

what you need to understand is that woundwort found and rose efrafa from it's weak state. He looked out for all of it's members and created a new system that gave everyone power in him. Anyone that was in the owsla looked up to woundwort and admired him, and even campion continued wide patrols after he died in the first book. The reason why so many rabbits in it were desperate was because he became too tight and violent. He was still a strategic person, but too power hungry. That's why it tore at campion. He looked up to woundwort like a leader, and it was against his nature to turn on him.

In retrospect I think campion was the only one that could have actually killed woundwort. Bigwig had his chance in the show, but due to it coming near an end they had to make some cuts.

I've just had a weird thought. What if Black Rabbit of Inle planned on Woundwort dying from that falling rock in cave, but because of Campion's intervention that didn't happen? Therefore BR had to employ a backup plan, so everything would end as he originally intended: Watership Down being safe, Woundwort dead and Campion being happy with Blackberry. Hmm... Maybe they should rename season 3 as "Watership Down: Final Destination"? :D

And considering what was the result of Campion's sacrifice in the long run, one could say it was a case of Nice Job Breaking It Hero. Then again Hazel was more responsible for "breaking it", because of him deciding to attack Efrafa when Woundwort had a change of heart.
Title: Ask
Post by: Campion1 on February 17, 2011, 06:39:22 AM
Personally I don't think the black rabbit planned for anyone being happy, but had a problem with efrafa and woundwort period. It is interesting to bring up Campion intervening with the BL's plan of killing woundwort, considering BL resurrected him and tasked him with killing woundwort, maybe as a punishment? who knows. I always questioned why the BL hated woundwort so much. But I guess woundwort is just something special, having survived death like campion, but not by the black rabbit's er, paw..

I remember a long time ago I talked to a member from inleh-rah's forum and whenever I brought up the subject he just rejected it and said there was no reason to bring it up. Probably the ending scene with the final battle between woundwort and bigwig. It gets pretty intense, I remember I played some of at a party and people thought it was so cool. I also like, for the some reason, the part where they have to cross the pond to avoid the dog. (Well that does it then!) Also the scene with the quote "The council were merciful!" was very well done. it's scary through blackvar's reaction, and the captain's subtle actions.

Post by: Campion1 on February 18, 2011, 10:02:22 PM
Who you are seeing in the signature is Chow yun fat and his character from the movie "A better tomorrow 2." Now, onto your watership questions:

1. I first found out about watership when an old friend of mine simply showed me an image of a crazed, blood covered rabbit and gave me a name. I can't give a date.

2. I was able to read watership about a month after I saw the movie.

3. About a year ago, I received Tales of watership down as a present for christmas, and read it under a week flat. (too longer due to being busy)

4. I was able to watch watership down whenever I looked up it up online. I originally watched on youtube.

5. I don't remember. I remember taking a while to watching more of it because I was put off by some of the things it had.

6. For the movie, I would have taken out the meaningless bits with the the barn fight with the rats, and mixed the scene with violets death with meeting the mouse, then have a scene for the things that went on on the boat. For the show, I would have added Woundwort's council and want it to end right instead of the rushed ending.

7. None.

8. The dog. He was just so hateful and insane for no real reason!

9. I can't say.

10. As was said, Homecoming.

11. For El-ahrairah's bit, "The story of the terrible hay-making" was just awesome. I liked how he transformed in front of the rabbits and tricked them into thinking he was someone different, and the ending of the chapter is just so dark, it's great. For the watership bits, well, as I have said, I think the whole thing with with the new doe (it's been a while since i read the sequel again) could have been fleshed out and turned into something better. But I will say my favorite chapter was "Campion" as it further touched on woundwort's influence and had hazel and campion meeting again since the events of the first book. It also talks about wide patrols and efrafa and whatnot. That's good.

12. Watership Down.

Its really good, and you can watch it here. http://www.youtube.com/user/Rebseh#g/u (http://www.youtube.com/user/Rebseh#g/u)

The first 13 episodes are uploaded as one video or three seperate, but for seasons 2 and 3, they're uploaded as seperate videos. But the major difference is, there isn't as much blood as Watership Down, only very rarely, but books are a different story.

If you want to watch them in order, start at the bottom of the playlist and go to the top. They're in order by how they happen. Episode 1 part 1, part 2, part 3, Episode 2 part 1, etc.

EDIT: It starts to get better around episode six, but you should start at episode one (if you do watch it), so you know what's going on.

Quote
I already know that most hate the fact that Blackberry is a female in the tv series and that is why I'm asking. Which do you prefer, the male or female Blackberry?
I hate it when people bring this up, because it doesn't matter. Nobody would have complained if Blackberry was a SHE in the movie. Period. Because all that matters for that character is that they're the idea thinker. The Series blackberry didn't have that trait, so that's probably why it was extremely noticeable. If you ask me, I would prefer blackberry being a doe, because then it wouldn't make the goals of our heroes so simpleminded. (OBTAIN DOES, REPRODUCE)
