what could a 12 or 16 core CPU possibly be used for? lol.

it will probably takes years for software to be released that can actually utilize that many cores too. a huge technological leap forward though.

Computer and Electronics / Windows Movie MAker is crashing
« on: July 14, 2009, 04:17:58 PM »
UPDATE: so i decided that i had had enough of what the software was doing and decided to reformat my PC to Windows 7 RC in the hopes that it will fix the issues.

all really good suggestions guys, big thanks :). if i have issues with it on 7, ill be sure to give them all a try.

my philosophy: if software doesnt work, reformat :lol

Computer and Electronics / Overclocking
« on: July 14, 2009, 05:07:20 AM »
ive toyed with the idea, and have done it in small doses.

i dont really have the patience to get a really good overclock though. as it can take hours, if not days to determine if the settings you use are stable.

Computer and Electronics / Windows Movie MAker is crashing
« on: July 14, 2009, 12:37:54 AM »
yeah. so basically, im trying to put videos into movie maker so i can edit them and stuff to put on youtube.

problem is, when i import videos to it, and place them in the timeline, movie maker freezes and becomes unresponsive. i then have to force the program to close.

i haven't used movie maker recently as i reformatted to XP. ive also searched far and wide on google for the issue but still cant find any solution :bang .

anyone have a theory on what is causing movie maker to crash? its not any high def video or anything, just game footage that i captured in WMV format.

these are my system specs if it helps:

Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. fully updated through windows update.
Intel E7400 2.8GHZ Dual Core CPU
Gigabyte 945GCM motherboard
nVidia GeForce 8800GT GPU
3GB of DDR2 PC-5300 RAM.

anyone who has a solution or can recommend an alternative, free video editing program, i will be greatly appreciative. thanks :)

Silver Screen / VHS vs DVD
« on: July 09, 2009, 04:02:24 AM »
I must back DVDs here.

while some stuff about VHS is superior to DVD; like much faster recording, as you dont have to wait for the DVD to finish doing whatever it is doing after you hit "stop" lol. also the almost complete lack of ads on the tape. but to be honest, thats about the only thing VHS has going for it.

But technology moves on, and despite minor flaws, DVD is the superior format hands down for all the reasons mentioned here.

another note on movies looking the same on VHS vs DVD. this will be true if the movie in question is much older and was shot in "analog" format. hence both a DVD and VHS version will look pretty much identical.

i havent bought a VHS tape in years, so i dont know if the quality of them went up during their final years as movies started to go digital, i would assume not though.

however. people now see VHS as an archaic form of storage media. i wonder what it will be like in 5-10 years time when Blu-ray becomes mainstream, DVD releases start to drop and DVDs are seen in the same way that VHS is.

Silver Screen / Ice Age 3
« on: July 03, 2009, 01:06:04 AM »
i saw Ice Age 3 today.

it definitely wasnt as funny as the other 2 were, but was still a good movie all the same.

its all pretty much the same stuff as the previous 2 were, just the jokes are a bit more adult-orientated. i doubt most kids would get half the stuff that is in the movie.

story-wise its very basic, probably for younger audience's sake. i wont reveal any of it due to spoilers though :).

i think the one thing that does make it alot better is the dinosaur animations. most of them are given alot of character and not portrayed as just huge creatures looking to eat everything in site.

but me, im a dinosaur fanboy so i sort of decided i was gonna automatically like the movie simply because it has dinosaurs in it lol.

i rate it overall a 8/10. alot of critics are bashing it hard it seems. dont take their comments seriously, go see it and enjoy having a laugh with family/friends :).

peace.

General Land Before Time / sequel with darkest story
« on: June 19, 2009, 12:02:12 AM »
i would say its definitely either 4 or 7 for the reasons already mentioned here.

one scene in particular i do find slightly disturbing in LBT 7 is the flashback scene where, i think its Littlefoot's grandparents, or someone explaining what happened when Pterano broke off and took alot of the herd with him.

we don't actually see any dinosaurs being directly attacked during the flashback, but the look of horror on Pterano's face during it and merely imagining what is happening to all of them is a bit chilling.

Given the very kid friendly nature of the sequels up to that point, im surprised that scene even made it into the movie.
