Announcements / An interesting proposition
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:19:12 AM »
to be honest i dont see why people all over forums, regardless of the subjects they cover, are so focused on post count. its just a number under your avatar :p.

i wouldnt mind either way. im not too concerned with my post count and i think people who only have one or two words per post shouldnt be credited for it. but either way works for me :)

The Fridge / Your stand on Walmart

i dont know how Warmart goes about it, but in Best Buy, full timers are guaranteed at least 32 hours a week. i dont think they can be given less than that without the employee actually wanting to go part time. the only way they can get less if they take vacation hours i think.

to my knowledge, an hour cut like what you're getting is against the law as you are full time status and have alot more rights that part timers usually dont have.

i would look into it a bit further and try to find proof that you're entitled to an average of 35 hours a week. maybe its on walmart's intranet or something, if they have one. cus thats just out of order to be honest.

normally the hours would be pulled from part timers. that does suck for them, but theres a reason you are full time; you do your job well and perform above the manager's expectations, and have earned the position you're in. dont let people take that away from you.

I used to work for Best Buy. while they aren't as low as WalMart, they still engage is some shady stuff.

being there for a year, i saw the corruption that seeps through. they have recently made some big changes that make it nearly impossible to get full time, and they have removed the majority of supervisor and management positions - reason? less costs for the company.

they pay slightly over minimum wage. i worked in California and the minimum there is $8.00, and i was on $9.50.

i worked in sales, and all they wanted me to do was attach "services" to every item i sold.

services being stuff from their Geek Squad, which imo, most arent worth the money. and their own protection plans - called Black Tie Protection.

and i was not on commission, which gave me almost no incentive to offer these services as the only one profiting from it is the company.

the people in the higher ranks, managers etc, were nice guys, but driven by their own agenda, such as to make as much money as they can for the company.

markup on their items is huge too. LBTLover will probably get a kick out of this :p.
they have a pack of 2 2GB RAM sticks, DDR2 PC6400, they sell it in store and on their site for $150!! i could get the exact same thing off Newegg.com for 44 bucks!

its kinda sad really, that huge companies like Walmart, BBY etc turn out this way. maybe the reason Circuit City went under is cus they actually tried to do things right by their employees and customers.

anyway, rant about Best Buy over :)

The Party Room / How many ways can you say something?
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:01:31 AM »
This game will try to establish just how many ways you can say something that has the exact same meaning, but is worded in a different way.

so an example is this:

one way - did you get a new game today?

second way - so today you picked up a game?

so you just choose something to be the center of the sentences, and you just think of multiple ways to word them :).

sentences can use the same words, as long as it is said in a different way than the one before it :).

doesnt really matter if stuff isnt gramatically correct, as long as its readable, and understandable :D

i would go first but im really tired atm so ima write up something a bit later.

enjoy!

(if this has been done before, just delete this topic)

Microsoft actually extended the warranty specifically for the RRoD (which i have had the plesaure of experiencing :D ) to 3 years after purchase date. the warranty extension is only for the RRoD though, cus they were having so many problems with it.

if you have had your 360 for less than 3 years, it is supposed to still be under RRoD warranty, just the normal warranty has expired. you got it fixed either way though, so awesome xD

Computer and Electronics / How Much RAM Do You Need?
« on: May 06, 2009, 01:52:24 AM »
i dont really do anything mad with my computer. i have 2GB and its been fine, never maxed it out, but im gonna be upgrading to 3GB soon, as i now have Win7 and its more of a memory hogger than XP.

68
windows 7 shouldnt have any issues with drivers and such. it has the compatibility mode and all Vista drivers are supposed to work with it. so anything that works on Vista should work fine on 7 :).

i backed up all my important stuff before i reformatted anyway. so, as long as others do that, its all good xD

69
i have just reformatted to the release candidate of Win7.

even though the interface is similar to Vista, Windows 7 feels so much more stable and robust than Vista does, it seems to run stuff better than XP or Vista can as well.

i have hated Vista from day one, but i am well excited over 7. i would recommend everyone who has Vista, to reformat to 7 if its not a huge hassle, as the RC will be usable til March 2010. i will be using Win7 RC as my main OS till the retail of 7 comes out :D

LBT Projects / Wanna transfer my LBT stuff to computer
« on: February 25, 2009, 01:42:32 AM »
update!

seems ive figured out some stuff to sort this endeavor of mine xD.

i discovered that Nero has a program called NeroVision Express which allows you to import VOB files and splice and trim them.  i can then save the file directly to my HDD as MPEG 1 or 2, or AVI. hopefully with no quality loss

luckily i have Nero 6 and it has the program on it xD.

so that seems to be working good for now. testing it on its export abilities atm.

heres another issue.

i have a couple DVD-RWs with LBT movies on them, and my DVD drive will not recognize the files, and therefore i cannot rip them to my HDD.

the funny thing is that i have PowerDVD on my PC, and it can play the files off these same discs with no problem at all. yet in My Computer, the Drive only reads the disc as a blank CD-RW.

anyone have any ideas on how to remedy that? they are Memorex DVD-RWs. i am running Windows XP too.

thanks :D

« on: February 20, 2009, 09:58:51 PM »
i've only done a coiuple conversions of files, and dont know a whole lot about it. i think im gonna use that program that Petrie suggested, as its free and looks like it can convert anything - anything.

ideally i wanna try and get the best quality in the simplest way.

LBTlover you seem to know alot about this stuff, so ill ask a general question :)

im probably looking at 1GB per episode and maybe 2-3GB per movie, and in WMV format. is there any generic settings that can be used to achieve that? like bit rate of the video and that stuff?

sorry for the newbish questions. i know almost nothing about this stuff :)

« on: February 20, 2009, 03:50:21 PM »
all good stuff. thanks guys :).

i basically wanna rip every movie and episode in the most efficient and quickest way.

LBTLover; you mean that if i want to keep the best quality, i need to put the VOB files on my computer first and then convert them to a different format?

my computer isnt the most powerful in the world. 2GHZ Intel dual core, 2GB DDR2 5300, 8800GT GPU.

Lillefot; you mean that i can use VLC to rip the files to my computer? i have VLC but havent found any ripping abilities on it. ill have another look.

i have 81GB of hard drive space available to me right now. i imagine that would be enough for 13 VOB movies and 26 episodes xD.

again, thanks guys :)
