Yay :DD !!! i've finally started up my own RPG website!!! (http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed/index.php?showtopic=1&st=0&#last). i can't wait till i get some members to join in on the RPG fun!!!
-
What is the basic theme?
-
rpg's are the theme, i'm also adding in non rpg related topics too
-
Ok. Any sorts of rp's you like to see, or would prefer not to see there?
-
Sorry I don't want to be rude, but isn't that exactly what the role-play section on GOF is too? I think it's kind of useless to create a new forum for that.
-
So you go sign up at Invisionfree, do no design work of any kind and you expect us to want to go there instead of here? Seriously...what's the point? Any one of us could just spend 5 minutes and make an account at Invision. If you want to have a separate website that attracts attention by itself and that people will want to hang out at, you're going to have to do a lot more work than that.
-
It's very...plain to put it mildly.
-
no, i'm not expecting anybody to go to my site at all. It's a site i can use to rp with my friends at school and anybody else that would like to rp
-
Well... while it is somewhat... hum... plain... <.<
I'd say it would only take some touches. I mean, you've got to start somewhere, I guess.
-
i just started it yesterday.........i've never even made a site......ever! in my life before, so making my own site is a giant leap for me, i'm proud of myself.......because usually i suck at making webs....i almost failed in ICT
-
yay! the most amount of users i've had on my site is three!!! yay!!!
i wonder if my friends from school will join?.....
oh yeh, i still gotta add LBT stuff to it
-
i have 3 registered members on my site!!! yay!!!
-
I'm there... but I'm afraid that If I post there at the same rate I do here, I would simply be "taking over" the site... I will have to be careful...
-

dude, it doesn't matter how much you post
-
You don't want to be outdone on your own site, do you?
And yes, I am sorry if this makes it look like I have a high opinion of my post count...
-
It does not matter
-
My site is up and running now yay!!! but i still need to fix it up a bit so it doesn't look so....so....bland
-
The link is broken on my end for some reason. From what I gather, the site that's up lacks some sort of theme or coherence to give people a reason to join other than because "you hope they will". That will never work. You need a theme. Role playing is too general....what types of role playing? Fantasy? Animals? Movie characters? You'll need to decide if you hope to attract an audience...even school friends.
Even though I've turned the board off, my Redwall site, while it was role play based, actually had a coherent theme to it and some images and stuff so it didn't look so basic. That's what you'll need to do for success.
-
I don't know how to upload images and make it fancy......i'm not too bright when it comes to making websites...lol
-
Here's an easy way to do it...
You can link to an image using the invisionfree "img" button... like the one used on the GoF... just find an image on the net and enter the url. Here's one of a gymnast:

-
i do not follow....o.O.......i'm such a twit...lol
-
You can't use BB code for that Noname. You have to use the following HTML in order to embed an image:
- Code: on
<img src="linkgoeshere" border="0">
Well, it depends on whether you want an image to be displayed or embedded... if we are talking about the latter, you are 100% correct. For simple display, either method seems to work.
o.O.....errr.....how do i iport the picture to my site first before i embed an image....
(people stare at me)
what?
I left you more directions on your site: http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed/...0&#entry1679765 (http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed/index.php?showtopic=17&st=0&#entry1679765)
i don't know how to install them...
my site won't work properly at all now...
Undo what you did, in that case.
how?
Go to the Admin CP, and undo what you placed there, and put the original text back.
i don't remember the original text...
nevr mind, it's all fixed now
Cool. I hope I helped.
you did ^^
I can also help you with the buttons and some other parts... I admit that I had some help from my site as well from a former GoF poster... I don't know his screen name though.
yes, help with buttons and things like that would be greatley appreciated ^^
First, you need to find or make some pictures for the buttons you wish to change.
i have
Can you show me what the pictures are and what they are intended for?
I'll upload them here when i get a chance
gtg
i fixed up my site with a playstation skin and it looks really cool!!!
Looks nice. Not quite what I would use on my site (too "techno" for a fantasy RP site like mine), but still very good for you!
Hey Vince, could you tell me how to change the buttons for my site? please
Go to the Admin CP, then go to images under "skinning and styles".
There you should see a list of all the buttons and other stuff.
Cut the stuff in the box that you want to change and place this:
<img src='[image url here]' border='0' alt='[whatever you want to say here]'> in the box.
Serris more or less has it correct. But if you need further help with that, I will be there.
It might be good to show us what the buttons are, though.
i will post them......once i find them........now where are my shoes?
lol
Oh one other thing, it is VERY important that you DO NOT delete whatever was in the box before you edit it. If you do so, there will be no image for whatever you deleted.
My recommendation is to copy the original contents onto a Word document and label the original contents so you know which one goes where. That way if things go bad, you can copy the original contents back into the blank boxes and end up back where you started.
ty for telling me
I'll just throw this out there. I know each of you (Vince and metadude) have new rp sites. Have you both considered running just one forum between yourselves? As far as I can tell, there's not much difference in what either of you are creating in terms of forums or rp types. Unless you intend to compete with one another, you might want to consider one forum for a better chance of success. Remember kids are back in school across the board, so you're going to have a much harder time keeping the target audience online.
My two cents.
Well, seeing as we are ON each other's forums, and that we have at least a few members in common, I don't see a problem. Heck, that would be like asking two different directors of the same kind of movie to create one movie studio. Although I CAN see us cooperating with each other... I mean, this site ITSELF has links to Netwoek54 and other "competing" sites.
Since there's no limit to how many forums an individual user can join, there's no need for "competition."
Your call I guess, but I think having so much in common it would be better to just try and get the fanbase to one board than having them choose which to go to or spend time at. Comparing the GOF to N54 is a very apples to oranges comparison you know. There's no way they can compete with each other.
well Vincent and i creating one site sounds good, but i will have to try and get my members to join onto the new site
Merging the two to make one board... isn't that like merging the USA and Canada because we're both large, free countries that come from the same empire?
I think it is best that our boards can be friends... heck, we should include links to each other's boards, and coordinate with each other... like George Lucas and Steven Spielburg cooperate, without merging their studios...
sure sounds great!!! but how do we do that???
Do what? Coordinate? We can just talk to each other...
i meant include the links
Well, we can make banners for our sites and include them...BUT, for now, we can make a "links" thread on each of our sites and include the URL of the other site there.
ok ^^
Merging the two to make one board... isn't that like merging the USA and Canada because we're both large, free countries that come from the same empire? rolleyes.gif
That is one lousy analogy and you know it. You'd have a point if you both had a decent member base that posts daily. You don't yet. I wouldn't even have brought this up if you both had boards that were doing very well because as you mentioned, it would pretty silly and I would agree.
I'm simply saying, given the time of the year and the fact you both have rp boards that look so much alike, why not consider trying to get one board off the ground instead of two separate ones? Either that or change your boards so that they aren't so similar in theme and style. Same sections, same ideas, and as far as I can tell, you're catering to the same type of role plays.
The analogy was good... the USA and Canada are very, very similar... and there was a time when neither country was well-established...
Anyway, I am about to begin my first RP on my site, and I have a linkreferral.com posting for my site... it seems to be getting me some traffic. We would have to start over again on a single, new site... and given the time we have invested into each site so far, we are not going to do that... or at least, I don't see the need.
We already have some overlap in members as it is, and my base is starting to grow... it will take about six months for it to hit 50 at this rate, but that is fine with me...
it would be greatly appreciated if some of the people that read through this could check it out. ^^ :D :)
I'm looking for suggestions that i could use to make my site seem more approving to everone that visits my site
Site (http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed/index.php)?
I've given you all the help and advice I can. I think you lack an obvious theme for your site and as such, nobody really knows what to do, or discuss. While having a specific focus won't automatically make your board successful (the GOF took five years to reach what you see now...five very long and patient years) it will help.
Have you tried Link referral.com? It's worked alright for me. My forum is a bit slow at the moment, but I am getting more traffic, gradually.
linkreferral screws with my mind......they say they know where i live...they watch me from a satalite
(crawls into a dark corner)
What? What do you mean? How did linkreferrel treat you any differently than it treated me?
it was a joke. it kept saying error once i tried to post my add
anyone have any ideas for what i could add to my site
Add some activity...post some things...make the site look active. At first glance its dead, so people leave. You need to spice things up or people will not want to stay.
site update! i've added some youtube vids, but i gotta add some lbt stuff ;)
The Youtube videos are located in kind of a disruptive way.
i couldn't figure out how to do it any other way....
-minor update
Updates
-shout box added (instant chatting like msn)
-youtube vids down the bottom removed (began to annoy me
Link to site (http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed)
that's it so far...
updated banner, it's much better than my old one....probably my finest work
My Website (http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGs_Unleashed)
please reply to this topic
It is a good banner, that's for sure.
thanks :D
