I am the first to ask this yes. oh well here it is.
How about we start a RPG. We on this topic talk about ideas and who will be playing charcaters.

One thing I strongly suggest is that before we start we should agree on a basic plotline. There is nothing more disturbing than a RPG in which each single player frantically tries to get the own idea of a plot though, so it becomes more like a competition on who decides what's happening.

We could have an adventure concerning Ali and Chomper, without Littlefoot and the bunch. Just those two.

I actually have given it a try and I've found the only role-plays I'm good at are the ones that allow me to play my own character where I don't have to play strongly in character. I like the ones where anything can and will happen.

Maybe we can do a blend (though it may ruin the whole train of thought you had Threehorn) - use LBT characters, or your own, and put them in any situation, as in it could be in the human world and not necessarily in the Great Valley. ;)

My fav charcater is Cera, I would like to be that charcater if possible.
The RPG can have different plots... for example...

We can have a story that they discover a Cave that wasn't seen by the children before. When they talk about it and one of the parents over hear and tell them that area of forbidden and dangours to the children.

This is only a quick thought. It could be a bad idea all you know. Ideas are good at the moment and who do or do not like the plot of this idea could tell it. I don't mind.

Straight from the shoulder, I don't think very high of LBT games or stories that have nothing in common with LBT but the maincharacters.

stories can be bent from normal means then the ones we see. The viewing is hardy then the RPG or story in words. You can have something mad on the story but almost impossible for viewing on a TV screen.

I know it's hard to accept someone out of their normal place Malte but it also isn't that simple to stay so in-character throughout the whole story either. ;) There are bound to time where you just want to let loose and goof around---it's still a role play, and it is still creating a story.
I guess if I'm going to be critical here I'm going to say this: the reason I believe no LBT role play has ever really worked online, is because they were too serious. It really did not give the author the freedom to create another section of a story with a character if that character is only expected to do certain things. Role play is about the freedom of the person playing a character through a situation, and that's hard to do if we're trying to keep in the boundaries of a LBT story.

If we can get the ppl to pick their charcaters and start one off sometime soon. even though it might take time to do one we can see how one work. But like you said Arvens everyone will goof around once in a while. If we can get one started I would be Cera. Since she my fav out of all the LBT charcaters Littlefoot, Petrie, Spike and Ducky.

I guess if I'm going to be critical here I'm going to say this: the reason I believe no LBT role play has ever really worked online, is because they were too serious. It really did not give the author the freedom to create another section of a story with a character if that character is only expected to do certain things. Role play is about the freedom of the person playing a character through a situation, and that's hard to do if we're trying to keep in the boundaries of a LBT story.
Maybe I am just too serious, but for example I really didn't enjoy the turn the most RPG-like thread we had so far (the neverending land before time story) took. It was really just silly. It is also a deep conviction of mine that many stories can still be told within the LBT universe that are neither mere repetitions, nor crossing a line like some LBT movies did already.

Well, I've done some RPing in my time, and any session can by fun if you allow yourself to have fun.
Even DnD can be fun EVEN at its weirdest.

I would only support one that was not strictly LBT Great Valley related. I can't be that serious in a role play. ;)

I never done one of these.. but it sounds cool.. maybe we could do some sort of mixture of dino realted animation movies.. like Dinky.. or something like that.. teh characters are pretty much the same only that was in a 25 min episode.. I don't know much about it but I've watched a few episodes and it's kind of cool.. so it could belike The gang of five meats Dinky or something like that.. we could put other characters and mess around with it =p

Who seen the other dinosaur cartoon? the little series one with the little longneck, the small looking like croc called Scat. The back fan one called Shilier. That one we could have a cross over with it. only a idea thou.

About the only other dino flick I saw was Jurassic Park but combining LBT and JP would make some interesting story. :p
I'm willing just to start a goof off one for us to just get used to each other's styles....

There's a new forum for goof off rps ... perhaps that's a good way to get everyone started, having no real restrictions. Look for it below the party room. ;)

I saw that show when I was little, but it never matched up to the movie (Land Before Time) that it basically copied, word for word, character for character.
Littlefoot=Dink
Cera=Amber (Only they were clever enough to make the two characters different species this time.)
And others, but I can't think of them right now.
Oh, and they didn't have "the grow-ups", either.

Let people double up now and if someone wants to join later, someone will hopefully be nice enough to relinquish control of a character so everyone can join in. ;)

It has nothing to to with being a scardy egg. But quite frankly I'm deep into universtity work, doing my posting here and writing my land before time story. I don't think I can handle another story at the moment. Moreover I think I'm too strict and serious for a role play game.

Not a bad idea. There was one story that Malte, Nick, and I were doing back in another comm. We just start that story over with new ppl and more characters.
Truly, an RPG doesn't really have a plot, or the plot begins with one person starting and everyone else takes it from there. The more exciting thing about most RPGs is that no one knows what the other person is going to do. In another RPG (non-LBT related), it began as a couple of friends going out for a little walk. By now, it's probably the end of an invasion of monsters... :blink: If there's anyone here that's probably looking at me strange right now, I'll tell you now that none of that was my planning. That's one reason why I like RPGs, cause you don't know what will happen next. :D

Please take a chill pill....this isn't uncommon with other LBT role plays I've seen...not enough people are interested in doing one and very often those characters that are not chosen, will be played by everyone. If you really want to go ahead with this rp, allow Petrie, Ducky, and Spike to be played by everyone. ;)

I suggest that you just try to get a game going. It is most unlikely that you will get all the characters together before you begin. Once you have a role play game going, it may encourage others to join you. In the Great Valley forum we've had a role play game running for months, and it was just Kenji, Nick and me (so less participant than you have here already). I took charge of Spike, Cera, and Petre back then (with the intention to pass the later two over to any newby who would ask for them). Up to the end we never had a Ducky joining us. And yet it worked!
So I suggest you to just give it a try.

I may join this roleplay, I'm just still trying to decide on who I would be good at...I usually prefer original characters to canon, but I may give it a try anyways. I may have just missed reading this, is it canon characters only or are originals allowed as of yet? As for a plot, well...what's the time line for this roleplay? You could have it go a few ways:
Great Valley Adventure: A new plot, continued from where the last movie in the series left off perhaps. Maybe have them meet a new friend or so or even meet up with friends met in previous movies. This may be fun, especially since it seems we already have people who would roleplay some of the other characters.
Journey Adventure: This idea came to me the other day, I suppose since the original still remains my favorite of the movies, a roleplay like this could take place during the group's original quest. Almost like an 'interequal', we could rp out scenes that perhaps were never shown in the movie. They're still searching for the great valley in this, their friendhips only just starting to grow and Petrie wouldn't yet be able to fly, etc. Create new obstacles for the friends to overcome, add stronger emotions to their friendships, etc.
I'll try and think of some ideas here...if it is pure canon only then perhaps I'll go wih Spike...he shouldn't be too hard to keep IC. :lol
I'm not sure though, Petrie or Ducky may also be fun...is there a Littlefoot yet? I'll see what my options are and choose from there.

Do you have any plot ideas yourself?
As I wrote before I do not intend to take part in a role play game at this time, but maybe I can give you some plot ideas. In the Great Valley forum I used some ideas from an LBT story I was planning. However, I have many LBT stories in mind and this one is probably the least likely to be written any time soon.
There may be a place in the Great Valley, where the river and maybe several brooks, run out of the Valley. If it is located in a depression it is likely to be flooded in case of a rain, and it may be that within few moments a muddy meadow can be changed to a torrential river pulling everything with it that was on the meadow. I named this place "The Wash" in the Great Valley boards RPG. One of the gang (Spike for example as we know he is not a good swimmer) may be dragged away by the floods, and unwilling to even think of the possibility that he may have drowned (and sure enough he didn't) the others set out into the mysterious Beyond to find him.
I could imagine the river running into a desert, a salt pan to be precise, one of the most unhospitable landscapes possible. It would be quite difficult to get back from there once you are in, with no means of orientation. Shifting dunes could make finding back even more complicate, and the run of a river (to meet the most striking counter argument against the whole idea) may vary as well as it's water level. The water of the river would most likely turn into an undrinkable, even dangerous salt water.
Scavenger characters could appear in such a horrible desert (which of course would result in many difficult questions to be dealt with). Maybe herds have to cross the desert time and again (how about Bron's herd? And why not combine it with a reappearing of Ali?). So long the story takes place within the desert however, it would mainly be a struggle for survival.

Could have the dinosaurs end up having the hottest days ever in the Great Valley and not even the water is able to keep the Great Valley stable.

All the plots are pretty good ideas. I have one more to contribute. (I'm probably more magic-oriented in this plot, since I've been in fantasy RPGs for too long :blink: This is just my planning phase for one of my fanfictions: The Wishing Stone)
An all-star cast with returning characters from the other sequels in a desperate race for what is known as the Wishing Stone. Littlefoot could use it to bring back his mother, but a series of unfortunite events, power-hungry villains, and some personal vendettas from his friends, might cause problems for him and the Great Valley.

Im happy either way. I can do "down-to-earth" and more realistic styled RPGing or Im in tune with my fantasy side (as anyone of you who have read my fanfic will know) so Im happy to play along to any plot.
