Title: SRFG's fanart
Post by: somerandomfangirl on August 27, 2021, 08:01:39 PM
Why did I make such a long username 9 years agoooooo

Can't find my old fanart thread, so might as well start a new one. Don't really want to look at most of my old art anyway.  :oops

Don't know how much I'll draw, and it's been a while since I've done it with dinos, but I used to be known around here for longneck art, and, well... I'm still just drawing longnecks. Oops.  :lol

This will mostly be OCs I think, although I may draw the gang at some point. Right now I'm too busy drawing Littlefoot's extended family, so bear with me.

So enough of my ramblings... here's some stuff. I'll start with one old drawing I still sort of like (now with no massive Photobucket watermark) from like, 6 years ago lol.

I think this was for an old fanart contest a few years back and I decided to draw Littlefoot crying because I'm a douchebag who likes to put my favourite characters through emotional turmoil.   :rhett_smile

The next one is something I finished today. This is a slight redesign of an old OC, Linnaea. She's Grandma Longneck's eldest daughter. It was just going to be her here as a character design sheet and then I decided to add more because why not I guess.

Littlefoot's mom at least is new pfp worthy material. Younger grandma looks really off, possibly because she was the first adult I drew and also the one I put the least time into, so... meh. It's something to get me back into it at least. Remember to use references, folks, they're very handy. I'm hoping to do some painting-like stuff over time between more character design sheets like this, but we'll see. Backgrounds especially are something I really want to work on this year.  Next up: SRFG draw something that isn't a longneck challenge!

Very nice! Hey nothing wrong with specializing in drawing longnecks. Maybe one day you can show Rhett some love with some fanart  :bestsharptooth :rhett_sad

Anyways, great to see a returning member making a fanart comeback. Have you thought about participating in the fanart prompts by any chance?

I believe this is your thread.

Forum search and threads list has "By user / Started by" filed. ;)

I checked your old and new art. You definitely love longnecks! XD Don't worry, that's ok, I love them too!

my inner sharptooth: stupid longnecks... why nobody loves sharpteeth? :O
Cera joins: stupid flatheads...Everybody knows that threehorns are the best!

They all are well done! :D
Background in night one is gorgeous! :O

Hmm... Rhett and the epic fail prompt... hmm... Nope, I got nothing.  :PLoofah I did have a look at the prompts, and yeah, when I have time I'll try and take part! I don't care if it's months too late I'm doing the meme one.

Why did it end up in the fanfiction section I'm so confused. Oh well, thanks for finding it! I'll probably just keep it to here now though.

Thanks! Backgrounds are something I haven't touched for ages so it's something I want to work on (I think LBT provides pretty good inspiration for that though).

Because Rhett never fails right?  :rhett_brag
Haha yeah by all means make an LBT meme, that would be great! Though as a heads up I won't be able to count it towards the fanart participation award that gets handed out since the deadline has already passed.

Oh that's probably because the admins were separating the fanfictions and fanart manually into separate sections. Since it was so old it probably wasn't noticed is my guess.

That's fine lol, it's the fun that counts!

Oh PFF I forgot they used to be in the same section.  :PLoofah I just thought maybe I'd messed up when I made the thing but that makes sense.

I've moved the old topic to the right subforum now. I think they only checked the first couple of pages when making the split, so older topics all ended up in fanfiction (already had to move a few).

I like the color scheme on your OC. Having the darker color around the eyes is neat :)

Ah okay that's great. Thanks!

So here's something a bit different. This is my entry for the July/August fanart prompt of epic fail! Topsy was huffing off after yet another disagreement with Grandpa Longneck, only to find himself walking into the nearest tree and getting stuck... again. The older longneck was rather amused.  :wise

Can't remember the last time I did a pencil drawing as opposed to doing it digitally, but I decided to treat myself to a new sketchbook this weekend for some reason so I might as well use it. Threehorns are a pain to draw. Longnecks at that angle are a pain to draw. Might add proper shading and an actual background later but for now I'm lazy. Enjoy!

I know the feet are weird, I've always struggled with them. :lol My scanner quality looks weird too. How does one draw trees again?

And hey, SRFG drew something that wasn't a longneck! Now how about that?  :bestsharptooth

Honestly, you absolutely nailed drawing mr. Threehorn! They are definitely a challenge and you did great :D And honestly the tree looks good as well. I feel like they are really hard to draw properly haha.

So good to see people participating in the prompts! :)

We all know you're really talented at drawing longnecks but dang Mr. Threehorn sure is looking great here, definitely a surprise there  ;)Cera Had a snicker or two when seeing the drawing, truly an epic fail  :SharptoothAmused

Ah yes, should've known that if you were drawing a threehorn that you would draw them in a bad light #LongnecksAreTheBest   :rhett_brag
You did a good job with drawing Mr. Threehorn as well! I know he can be difficult sometimes. Also love Grandpa Longneck's trollish smile haha. Also cool to see some graphite traditional drawings too! Makes me feel a bit less the odd one out haha.

So it turns out I'm actually keeping up with this fanart thing. I've come to the conclusion there isn't enough fanart of Mama Longneck so I'm going to be the change I want to see in the world.  :lol Might as well start with the beginning. Might try and draw a few different events from her life, might not. We'll see (I'd love to make a mini-comic series but I don't think I have the talent or patience for that haha). This one was inspired by a scene I found whilst trudging through my old fanfics which I thought was quite nice.

Originally I wanted to draw several characters including Grandma's parents and Saro all gushing over the hatchling but... that was ambitious.

Yes I'm still in the habit of youngifying certain adult characters. I like the headcanon that the grandparents had a bluish tint to them in their youth and greyed as they got older... still trying to figure out younger Grandma's colours here. I don't know why she gives me such trouble.  :p

The problem I have with this is that I put so much time into messing around with the background that by the time I got to colouring the actual characters I lost interest. XD The best part is that I didn't pay attention to where the characters were going to be and thus put some quite a bit of time into things that are now covered by the parents' heads.  :ShortyDisgusted The moss on the trees looks a bit too green too whoops. Ah well, it's my first attempt at a detailed background in... forever. The shadows are bleh but I just wanted this thing finished by that point.  :oops

In short, I've got a lot to learn with digital painting. Overall I'm not completely satisfied but then I never am, so... :p

Two versions, one with and one without Linnaea, cause I get OCs aren't everyone's thing. I tried drawing Linnaea from memory this time, the others were drawn from references. Longneck hatchlings are actually kinda hard.

I've got an idea of a follow up to this but the next thing I'll post will be my entry for the Halloween prompt. That will actually feature the gang rather than the secondary characters that I have an unhealthy attachment to.  :rhett_smile

Also the baby is so cute!

Also the baby is so cute!

Thank you! I downloaded quite a few new brushes for Krita which were a big help with doing the background! It was fun to experiment around.

So last time I said this:

I've got an idea of a follow up to this but the next thing I'll post will be my entry for the Halloween prompt.

This was, in fact, a lie. I sketched out a short comic to follow up with this. Featuring all the characters I wanted to feature in the last thing.

So the dad who once mentioned he doesn't cry gets overwhelmed by the birth of his daughter and becomes a sobbing mess and what do his wife and best friend do? Plot to tease him about it, obviously. Well, at least until they get called out.  :PLoofah

The two older longnecks in the top right panel are my OCs Sorrel and Patrice, Grandma's parents. Sorrel's been one of my favourite OCs for about 10 years and I believe this is the first time I've ever drawn him. He's a big softie but he won't admit it. Patrice I couldn't stick to a design for. She was originally the sandy brown she is now, then she was green, and now I think I'm gonna stick with the sandy brown. She does look almost identical to the Old One and most of her herd, but that's kinda the point (and I may have an idea to do with it :p).

And yeah, that's Saro along the bottom. Whoever designed that bum-chin... I just wanna talk. I think he was a greyish brown but honestly I couldn't be bothered to go and find the episode to look. His head also looks a bit pancaked here.

This was just going to be a pencil sketch but I realised I can't sketch things at the right size... also digitally I just copy and pasted the two heads in the bottom two panels with some minor adjustments. Hooray for laziness.  :lol

Also apologies for that handwriting.  :sducky

The next one should be the Halloween prompt but... I'm not gonna stay certain about it this time. I may keep procrastinating doing my coursework.  :oops

Also help I'm getting way too attached to baby Mama Longneck.  :opetrie

Alright, here we go! I actually finished this like a month ago but thought it might be too soon to upload it for spoopy month... and then I just forgot about it whoops.

So... do I name this? If so I suppose Curse of the Blood Moon is a fitting title? I'm bad at titles. :lol This is my entry for the Halloween/horror prompt.

There's some blood/gore in this one so I'll put it behind a spoiler tag!

Spoiler: ShowHide
(https://i.imgur.com/0lCqzPC.png)

So I made the mistake of watching Primal and listening to Thriller a lot before drawing this and so here you go, zombie Sharptooth. He's looking a bit bruised from that boulder the kids dropped on him. And it looks like he got in a fight before reaching the kids, too.

This is my first time drawing most of the gang barring Littlefoot, so you can probably tell they're all heavily referenced. Except Spike, I couldn't find a good one of him running so that was kind of improvised. Looking at him again, the head looks a bit small. Again I can't draw feet so excuse those. :p And I don't know what the shading/shadows are doing here, I gave up at that point.  :sducky Dunno what to say about the background other than it took a few tries haha.

Hmm... is that a friend or a foe watching from above?  :thinking

I got a few more things in the works. Bron's gonna hopefully get something by the end of his showcase month and I've drawn out an idea I have for a fanfic I've started writing. Speaking of, the reason I haven't been arting so much is because I've gotten into a writing groove and I can only do one of those things within a set period of time because I'm weird like that. But I have got a few sketches I'll try and colour in the next couple of weeks. Till then!

Great entry for October! One of your best works!

Crimson background is spooky and beautiful at the same time. All characters are drawn very well! :D Great job!

I hope that's an ally, and will save our gang...

Now THAT is spooky! :rhett_shocked Awesome work on this piece, especially considering you hadn't drawn most of the characters before! (Haha, I'm relieved that I'm not the only fanartist who's too busy drawing random side characters to draw the main group...LBT is one of the few fandoms I've gotten into where I've ended up drawing the main characters much at all!)

Also, I totally understand being in either a drawing/writing mood but not both at once. Don't sweat it, that's just how some of us work! :D And even if you don't finish the WIPs you have, I sure wouldn't mind seeing the sketches!

The blood moon rises once again, be on your guard Link....er, Littlefoot?  :bestsharptooth

Very nice job! I can understand the feet issue, especially with Cera's case as having them up like that is very tricky. You did a pretty good job with them though. Only thing I would say is to maybe try and show just a bit of the top part of the feet rounding off from the tip of the toes and such to give it some proper depth. It's sorta flat as they are right now. Still a great job though!

Hmm is that Littlefoot's mother up there also back from the dead looking for revenge?  :MomCompassion :MoEvil
[EDIT] Just noticed the part of its back missing so it does seem more likely now

Yeah the blood moon was definitely from me playing Botw again recently, and now you're making me think about an LBT/Zelda crack crossover haha.  :lol

Yeah I agree with that on Cera's feet, the more I look at them the more they bother me. :p But yeah, that's something to improve on next time.

Oh dang!  :GuidoAAAAAHHHHHH

Now this is why spooky month is best month.

While I do agree that I get lazy and bored when the shading comes along, it helps the setting a lot.  So no worries!

The overall idea is genius. Bringing the most famous sharptooth of them all! Wonder if Frankenstein had something to do with this?  :thinking

Title: Re: SRFG's fanart
Post by: somerandomfangirl on October 27, 2021, 06:20:35 PM
Eehh I've put the digital art stuff to one side for now because reasons. I'm sitting on a computer all day at work and I don't really wanna be doing the same at home and as such digital art from me might suffer for a bit.

I have done a few sketches though. Whether or not they get coloured I don't know yet but I'll at least try and clean them up before uploading. I've also started designing a few more OCs. Most of them will probably be longnecks but here's a fast biter character that's one of the main protags in a fanfic I'm writing (again, whether that gets uploaded I'm not sure yet, I have no confidence when it comes to my writing lol). This is Snapper. It's not his real name but it's the nickname the leaf-eater protag gives him so that's what he's gonna be known as most of the time.

Snapper loses his family in the great earthshake but comes across an injured leaf-eater and decides to save her, hoping that in return she will protect him from larger predators that may seek him out while he's alone. He sniffs out green food and directs her away from predators to protect her until she recovers from her injuries. Together, they travel towards the Great Valley whilst looking for a new herd/pack to join, and have to try and tolerate each other's differences along the way. That's the basic dumb premise of the fanfic lol

I haven't drawn fast biters before so he looks a bit bleh. I especially hate them claws. And almost everything else. :lol Decided to torture myself by going for the feathered look because I think it looks cuter. I don't know what consistency is. Dunno if this is the final design but that's what concept drawings are for, right? Next up, hopefully the leaf-eater protag. (I'll give you a cookie if you can guess who it is, cause it's not an OC :p )

EDIT 29/10/21: Following some feedback, here's an updated version with some adjustment on the claws. Also attempted to shade in the feathers a bit. :p

Hey looks good! I think I like how the claws look in the one where he's looking up at something. The one where they're on the ground flat look a little too flat maybe? Not sure how to fix it though  :PLoofah
The expressions all look great as well!

Hmm a leaf eater out alone that can protect him against larger predators that's not an OC? Only one character can fit that role!

Thanks again for the feedback, Flathead. :) Yeah the flat claws I might try fixing when I've got time over the weekend. I actually cannot draw hands for the life of me so I think that translated into claw problems.  :lol I'll probably have to do a couple of practice sheets for claws/hands to get back into it.

Haha Rhett might not be the one I had in mind, but he might pop into the story to save the day.  :rhett_brag

EDIT: I've had a go at adjusting the claws, updated version is with the original. :)

I've attempted another fanfic-related character concept drawing. So without further ado, here's the leaf-eater protag- wait, that's not a leaf-eater...  :screechconfused

Another OC. This is Nina, a Spinosaurus. I did originally draw her and then colour in with pencils but... turns out, I'm not so good with coloured pencils.  :sducky So... digital art to the rescue I guess. Hence the paper background.

I dunno what to say about this one. It's a quick sketch that was quickly painted over. Still working on the claws thing but I'll get there eventually... I hope. :p She looks a bit on the chunky side as well, but... maybe she's just well fed on fish... or something else.  :evilsmile

So... Nina is part of a pretty diverse sharptooth pack led by a guy called Whiplash (you may or may not see him later, idk). She's the only Spino there and is one of the more recent additions, deciding to join after she lost her mate. She's a healer, so she's a pretty useful addition to the pack. Her size means she's feared a lot by the surrounding leaf-eater herds, but she survives on scavenging and fish, so she's not much of a threat to them unless she's really hungry.  :taunttroll

Yes I'm making her an outdated Spino. I prefer the look of the old Spinos, and let's face it, LBT isn't all about making the dinos scientifically accurate.  :lol I might change her to the newer version later on but... I might not. XD

Looks like I've been converted from longneck artist to sharptooth artist.  :bestsharptooth

I'm not gonna say what I'm probably posting next anymore, because I always end up drawing something else. XD Till next time! I feel like I'm getting into a drawing groove again now, so we'll see. (Now watch me post nothing for weeks.  :lol)

I need to stop saying anything about when I'm planning to do the next arty thing. I've been bogged down with interview prep and stressing over quite a few things but I've got something for you now.

So on today's edition of 'SRFG takes her art VERY seriously'... Have my entry for the Alternate Universe prompt... The Rhettverse!

Honestly, I had no ideas for this one. I jokingly made a comment on discord about an AU where everyone was Rhett... and then it actually happened.  :rhett_ohno

I don't even know what to say. I'm gonna go sit in a dark corner for a while and think about what I've done. Couldn't be bothered for backgrounds but I had fun experimenting with the water stuff.

I might draw something more serious next time... but don't count on it.  :p

 :rhett_grin :rhett_brag Now this is masterpiece!  :rhett_smile :M'Rhett

 :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Good drawing, actually!

As I understand, it's Rhettverse version of the gang? I can clearly see Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie and Spike here. :D

Yeah, water is drawn very neat. And I like mountains and clouds at the background too!

*sitting in the corner, waiting for Bellyverse...*

Ah this is perfect, truly the apex of art!  :RhettAli

Glad to see someone joining in on the Rhett fun. Once you start you can't stop though  :rhett_smile

Don't worry, I look forward to non-serious drawings haha

You always seem to amaze me.

I nearly choked from laughter after I saw this. Rhett is truly a funny character, and is often used for jokes. I like that.  I can clearly see who's who.  You definitely nailed their personalities.

The water is SO well done! I look up to you now. tEaCh mE yOuR waYs

How have I missed so much here?? All your art is awesome! Your OCs are very creative and fit with the LBT universe well, and the Rhett-verse is hilarious! :D

Not me forgetting to respond for over 2 months. Thanks everyone. Glad you could all see their personalities shine through!

Anyhoo, here's my entry for the couple's prompt! And to the surprise of absolutely no-one, here's my favourite couple in LBT:

So the idea is that maybe after the kids found it during the big freeze, these two decide to go on a hot spring date every now and again (when they're not chasing after Littlefoot on one of his adventures :PLoofah). Speaking of, I could really do with a spa day.  :thinking

Tried drawing longnecks from memory after two months of drawing nothing instead of using references which was probably a bad idea but oh well. I've had a good break so hopefully it's now time for me to get into it again. Looking through my files I've got at least three bits of finished artwork I haven't yet uploaded, but it's part of a bunch of concept sketches of OC's/fanfic related stuff so I'll probably hold onto those until I've got a few other sketches tidied up and then make some kind of masterpost with them. I may or may not do something else before that though. We'll see. :p

Aww. I consider Granma and Grandpa as one of the best couple in cartoons. ^^

Good job!

Hey SRFG this looks great! I'm sure this is much needed relaxation from all the stress LF causes them (though them being at the hot spring means that the gang have probably used this opportunity to run off yet again  :bestsharptooth )

Well done!

Thanks again all. As if it's been two months since I touched this thread. :lol Arting is happening in the background, but I'm just not finishing anything.  :p

So for this month's prompt of "How it should have happened" I have this... slightly unfinished piece. I mean it's fine, I was going to add more details, but I'm going on holiday tomorrow and won't have time to do anything else with it so here ya go. I attempted something a bit different anyhoo.

So this is LBT 14 but Shorty actually exists. I'm thinking maybe he could have filled in Etta's role. He stayed behind to try and help Bron but failed so he tried to get to the Great Valley to find Littlefoot and got lost in the caves. Littlefoot finds him after getting separated from his friends in the sandstorm and Shorty tells him about what happened at the Fire Mountain. Then everything with the rest of the gang plays out and Shorty leads them to Bron.

Let me remain bitter about the lack of adopted brother. :lol

Ah, this is making me like Shorty even more..

Too bad he only has 1 movie and a episode.. that's only like, 115 minutes of screen time..

Wow! This looks stunning! It's good to have you back making fanart! :olittlefoot

I definitely would have been nice to see more of Shorty. He should have, at least, made some sort of appearance in XIV.  :ShortyDisgusted

Also, is Littlefoot crying? It looks like he has a tear in his eye.  :lfsadface
Title: Re: SRFG's fanart

Good art!
I can feel how shorty is sad, maybe even angered about himself he got lost and couldn't find and help Bron.

Yes! Shorty should not be forgotten!  :ShortyDisgusted
For me, Etta was TOO good, so I don't want her be replaced with Shorty completely, but ultimately, Shorty should appear in some part.

Nice to see more art from you! Even unfinished this painting is gorgious, backgrounds and all!

Yeah, wish Shorty had more apperances. To piggy back on Sneak's comment, I like Etta too much to be replaced, but I think it would do better if he was in this scene instead of her...

Still can't get over how cool this looks! Unfortunaly I won't be able to make an entry for this one, I'll have to inform the fanart disscusion thread real quick, but nice work!

Aww Shorty <3 This is a lovely piece. For it being "unfinished" I think it's absolutely amazing!
Title: Re: SRFG's fanart
Post by: somerandomfangirl on April 25, 2022, 04:43:25 PM
I mean it should be considered finished haha, I'm just nitpicky as anything when it comes to my stuff.  :lol I've been trying out this more painted look with a couple of other pieces I'll eventually upload. I also have another Shorty sketch I should work on at some point. So much to work on...

I agree with not getting rid of Etta completely. I liked her and all, I just like Shorty more. Maybe she could take Wild Arms' place (although I do have a soft spot for him as well).  :p

Also, is Littlefoot crying? It looks like he has a tear in his eye.  :lfsadface

Yeah, I gotta make it as sad as possible.  :bestsharptooth

Thanks all!
Title: Re: SRFG's fanart
Post by: Flathead770 on April 26, 2022, 06:12:52 PM
Very nice! I like the concept and it makes sense in the story for Shorty to replace either Etta or Wildarms. I know a lot of people are a little upset about the absence of Shorty, but I suppose I'm a lot less concerned with the matter? For a sequel to come out after 9 years and to already have a premise that relies on a decent amount of previous continuity that they actually have to explain plot in the intro as a setup, I think having Shorty in the movie would've required a lot more explaining to do, otherwise people would be confused as to how they know each other. Then again they kinda just gloss over Ruby and Chomper for anyone who hadn't seen the TV series (a couple of my friends that I watched the movie with for example) so who the heck really knows  :bestsharptooth

Back to the drawing itself though, I really like the background with the cave transitioning into darkness! I think maybe adding a small amount of highlights in the dark section where part of the rocks are still reflecting light would add a lot to it, but then again that would probably add a whole lot of extra time to the drawing  :PLoofah Littlefoot and Shorty both look good in the drawing as well!

"So... how last minute are you putting in a fanart prompt entry?"

"Yes."

Honestly with the amount of stuff I've had to deal with over the last two months I thought I wasn't going to make it with this one, even though this was probably one of the prompts I was most looking forward to doing. I thought it would be a good opportunity to go back to what was probably my first bit of LBT fanart. It's Throwback Thursday after all!

I mean... this probably doesn't come as a surprise. :lol I have no idea why but I imagine that Grandma was a bit of a sass queen in her youth and Grandpa was a bit of a dork who just didn't know how to deal with it.  :p

'Tis a bit rushed but I'm just glad I managed to get something in on time. I need to get back into doing art on a more regular basis but hopefully this will be a start. Could probably do with a bit more practice before the fight scene prompt.

huh, I like sassy Grandma and silly Grandpa.  :ChomperPOG
Grandma reminds Cera so much here.  :cerasmug
And I see Granpa used his goofy guilty grin in old days too.  :rhett_smile

Nice job!

SRFG stop speedrunning fanart prompts at the last minute challenge and maybe upload something else for once: impossible.  :rhett_ohsnap

But hey, I got there. My entry for this month's fight scene prompt! I've put it under spoilers, cause it's a bit bloody.

Spoiler: ShowHide
(https://i.imgur.com/6QoNmBN.png)

Oh look, it's Jurassic Park III in LBT style.  :bestsharptooth I've been wanting to do Nina vs. Red Claw for a while and I guess this was a good opportunity to do so. They got into a fight probably because Nina insulted Red Claw's stubby arms. Also she was trespassing on his territory. So he showed her he makes up for those arms with his teeth (Wait, Red Claw, threatening? Never.  :PLoofah).

Spoiler alert: This is a scene I've thought of to put in that fanfic I'm probably never going to upload and she does end up needing saving. I do actually have what could be a sequel to this art (albeit drawn months ago) of the guy who ends up saving her. Might upload it later, might forget.

If Red Claw looks kinda derpy it's because I attempted to draw him from memory, which I probably shouldn't have done since I haven't drawn a T-Rex for nearly a year (since zombie sharptooth, actually). Backgrounds, what are those? :taunttroll I had a lot of fun with this one, though.

waaah! Dis is amazing! The painting is pretty neat. Also... I feel like I gotta square brain if I ask this but who's Nina :0

I hope she beats him up! Red claw is kinda weak in the show. That's why I like to think The seven hunters is canon, becuase he was a much better villan in a hecking fanfic.

But anyway nice job! Glad to see you've managed this before the deadline. Also eehh... how many days do I gots left to post an entry?

Oh wow that was pretty darn fast! And quite a good job drawing them in such a short time! To me Red Claw seems good and not derpy at all.

No worries. Nina is my OC. I just realised it was actually a really long time ago when I posted her design but she is in this thread somewhere.

And yes, Red Claw is always better in the fanfics.  :taunttroll
