As the name implies, you may ask me about these things, although military history is covered in another thread, so any non-military history questions can be directed here. Same thing with politics questions.

Who was the runner up for the second prime minister of Canada?
-
That's more obscure than I'd like...
And define "runner up" please. Do you mean the one who was NOT elected?
I know the one who left office to make room for the second was John A. Macdonald...
Can we have some more important questions in the future? I didn't create this thread for minutia.
-
I was kidding :lol
Why was Abraham Lincoln admired so much as a US president?
-
Well, first, you ought to know that there are people out there who really would ask a question like that... we call them... Canadians. :lol Without the use of emoticons, it is hard to give tone to a post... and you had a ":lol" smilie right there which you could have used... or a ":DD". " ", " ;) " or some others.
Anyway, onto the question itself...
Lincoln was admired because he freed the slaves, saved the union, and became a martyr for freedom and the USA itself. When you die because you want to save and increase liberty in a country, the citizenry will tend to admire you for it.

He was famous for that "cross of gold" speech, referring to how the value of the dollar was linked to that of gold.
-
indeed he ran for president 3 times, 1896, 1900, and 1908
lost all 3 times obviously..
-
What was the populist party platform?
-
Now THAT'S a good question! :D
The populists were a party mostly consisting of small farmers who were opposed to the rapid changes and industrialization of American society back in the late 1800s. Specifically, they called for the abolition of national banks, a graduated income tax, direct election of Senators, civil service reform, a working day of eight hours and Government control of all railroads, telegraphs, and telephones.
They managed to get the civil service reform, 8 hour days, and direct election of Senators, who, before then, were appointed by state legislatures.

The Grange was the first "farmers" party which appeared in the early 1870s, it later grew into the populist party..
-
Who were Alice Paul and Lucy Burns and what did they become famous for?

Suffragette leaders who were pivotal in passing the 19th amendment in the USA, granting women the right to vote.
