I was introduced to Gundam back when I watched the OVAs. I then started watching Gundam Seed. Now I am a huge Gundam Unicorn Fan.

Anyone else a Gundam fan?

Love the Blue avatar by the way. Can’t wait to see her return in Jurassic World: Dominion (2022). :)

Silver Screen / Re: Disney's Cruella

I don’t intend to see it. I never thought Cruella needed a backstory. She worled as one-dimensional Villian. Plus Glen Close did a great job in the live action films.
Same. This feels really contrived; why would I want to root for her, she tried to kill all the dalmations?  :rhett_ohsnap

Exsctly! Well said.

What’s next? The Rise of Jafar, how a Powerful Sorcerer became a wicked advisor, and nemesis of Aladdin.

I was a PC person till I switched to Mac. I am one of those “Once you go Mac you never go back,” types. Among the many reasons is PCs get fat more viruses simply because more people have PCs and thus hackers focus on the larger pool of users.

1. What are your general impressions of Doc as a character?

I frankly thought Doc was a cool Clint Eastwood Fistful of Dollars character. How much you like him depends on if you really believe him to be The Lone Dinosaur or not.

2. Do you see Doc’s portrayal in the television episode “The Lone Dinosaur Returns” as a logical development of the character, or do you see it as being incongruent with his portrayal in the sixth film?

I found his TV potrayal to be antithetical to his film potrayal. In The Secret of Saurus Rock he is a loner and hemit, in the series he settles down with a wife. What made Doc unique is he had no herd ambitions, he was like a traveling Monk-a-saurus or Pilgrim-a-saurus. In addition, Doc’s fury and threats toward Chomper seemed out of character. Doc fought Sharpteeth when they attacked, he was not bent on Sharpocide. The fact Chomper speaks Leafeater, and is pals with the Gang would have taken Chomper off Doc’s radar as a threat.

Yeah but this film deserves a much higher rating.

Had IMbD existed back during the LBT’s release in theaters it would have likely got 9.0 at the very least.

Alas most today probably don’t appreciate how incredible the animation was then and that it is melancholic film (has all the feels).

Our they intend to go Abrams and say, “this an alternate reality in which Ozzy and Strut are Velociraptors.” XD
Are you talking about JJ Abrams?

Yes indeed.

General Land Before Time / Re: Most underrated sequels?
« on: June 08, 2021, 09:56:28 AM »
I agree about Secret of Saurus Rock. It may be a little bit of Nostalgia talking, since it was one of the VHS tapes I watched a lot as a kid, but it's top of the list in sequels for me. Can't count the times that Lone Dinosaur song creeps into my head when I least expect it. I always found the western gripe a little odd since the movies surrounding it also take a common movie theme (shipwreck for Mysterious Island, western for Secret of Saurus Rock, and SciFi for Stone of Cold Fire).

Also, I'm not sure if people usually lump The Big Freeze in with the lesser liked ones, but I always assumed so since I remembered disliking it as a kid. But I rewatched it for the first time not too long ago and it definitely bumped up on the list for me, I can't even remember why I didn't like it now! I also really like Great Day of the Flyers but I don't know the general consensus, I'm way out of the loop on fandom. And I'm biased because I just really like pterosaurs.  :petrieLOL

I wholeheartedly agree. The Lone Dinosaur song is iconic. It is one of the most memorable songs,

Great point about how other genres like Sci-fi are used, so why is a Western theme such an issue? I mean with so many sequels, it is invitable a western was bound to happen.

I think part of the reason The Secret of Saurus Rock was criticized so severely is it came right after The Return of Chomper in The Mysterious Island. LBT V is universally loved, and so Saurus had a tough act to follow. I however, prefer The Secret of Saurus Rock to The Mysterious Island.

Silver Screen / Re: Are Good Movies Becoming Extinct?
« on: June 04, 2021, 04:28:01 PM »
Yeah. Also just to be clear when I say bad movies I am referring to movies that have loads of plot holes and bad writing.

And sadly those bad movies with plotholes suite companies like Disney. “Oh you didn’t understand that part we left out? New movie or book coming out to explain.” Ugh.
