General Land Before Time / Where is Ali's father?
« on: April 18, 2017, 02:24:38 AM »
I assume Ali's father probably died just as Little Foot's mother died or maybe Land of Mist took him!  :cry
I imagine this might have been where the writers could have explored a semi-romance between Ali and Little Foot, that they both have losing a parent in common.

General Land Before Time / Does Chomper have any siblings?
« on: April 18, 2017, 02:22:55 AM »
Actually there seemed to be a tendency to have T-Rex parents only have one hatchling. This happened in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the adult T-Rexes had one offspring, and same goes for Chomper's parents. It seems to have been a theme in dinosaur fiction, probably based on paleontologist assumptions, like how they believed T-Rexes were scavangers and loners, now they know they were pack hunters.

General Land Before Time / The Sixth Movie
« on: April 18, 2017, 02:17:53 AM »
There seems to be many paths into Mysterious Beyond. The Gang of Five are able to more easily find passages out of the Great Valley, while it seems the larger entrances and exits for adult herds is either guarded (there's a whole movie, those who guard the enterance like Anklyosauria, Stegosauria, and etc).

As for Lone Dinosaur, when it shows Doc fighting the Sharptooth in early part of the film, he helps Longnecks and I believe Spike tails. It has been a while, but I remember a Spike Tail and Duck billed dinosaur.

General Land Before Time / The plated sharptooth

I always assumed the plated dinosaur was an Allosaurus or Carnotaurus. Although an Allosaurus is much smaller than T-Rex.

Creepy Crawlies cannot be forgotten once heard :lol.

General Land Before Time / Favorite Sharptooth in the series?
« on: April 18, 2017, 02:06:37 AM »
My real favorite is the Horned Sharptooth (Carnotaurus) in The Land Before Time XIV: The Journey of the Brave. But by default it is Chomper. I use to like the Original Sharptooth, but he kinda creeps me out now.

General Land Before Time / Why is it called the Mysterious Beyond?
« on: April 18, 2017, 02:02:16 AM »
The name is suppose to illicit a sense of wonder and expectancy, there are mysterious things in the Mysterious Beyond. In some ways it reminds me of a way grown ups help make it less appealing (although it never works, Little Foot and the Gang always end up out there). I think its just suppose to be the antithesis of the Great Valley which is stability and comfort (with exceptions, see LBT II, III, V, VI, VIII). The Mysterious Beyond is a place where anything, I mean anything can happen (see Stone of Cold Fire :lol).

The closest we got was when Mother Spike Tail and youthful and overzealous (playful) spike tail try to adopt Spike (see The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze). I think that is closest we will get to any idea of Spike having family members. While it worked with Bron, to have a parent appear later, I am not sure it would go over well if Spike's parents suddenly showed up. Spike and Ducky since LBT II have kinda been symbiotic, if Ducky suddenly didn't have Spike it diminishes her character, they are adoptive brother and sisters, and it works well for the films. Especially when Spike shouted in Stone Cold Fire, "Ducky!!!" (The only good thing about Stone Cold Fire aside from Petrie's uncle).

General Land Before Time / What would happen if the Great Valley was
« on: April 18, 2017, 01:43:45 AM »
Actually The Great Valley is not a paradise (heaven), more like The Promised Land. There are plenty of examples of peril in The Great Valley and where the entire herd leaves due to conditions. The Land Before II: The Great Valley Adventure has egg stealers and sinking sand. The Land Before Time III: The Time of Great Giving has a drought and inferno. The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island has the Leaf Gobblers (Locust) and the entire herd leaves the Great Valley in search of a place of food. The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock has a twister/tornado that causes havoc. The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze has the whole herd leaving The Great Valley to stay at hot springs during wintertime. These are just some examples that The Great Valley is not paradise, but the Promise Land (see Original Film allegory).

General Land Before Time / Adding a new member to the gang of five

I really wanna see movie where Chomper and Ruby have MAJOR role. In Journey of the Brave, they were outsiders, and I wonder why. Oo
I too would like to see Chomper get the spotlight, and get aqauinted with Ruby, I only know here from "Journey of Brave" and couple of episodes of the Series.

I was surprised at how Chomper and Ruby were afterthoughts in "Journey of the Brave." I thought perhaps Chomper was going to help the adults navigate the Valley of Feathered Sharpteeth, and even distract them by talking in Sharpteeth language. I actually expected Gandpa Longneck and Mr. Threehorn to help Bron get free of his trap, instead the Gang of Five are able to do it with Etta? Seemed to defeat the whole purpose of Gandpa and Topsy. They could have been instrumental to get Bron free of rock, and Chomper and Ruby would have been the guides who could distract the Sharpteeth.

1988 Theatrical Release / If this were remade.
« on: April 17, 2017, 05:40:37 PM »
The best reason to remake LBT or reboot it is to introduce this beloved franchise to a whole new generation. Beyond that, it would give is fans another chance to see The Gang on the big screen.

General Land Before Time / Question from Land Before Time 5

That actually makes sense but if my memory doesn't fail me, they actually show in some scenes Cera struggling to get into logs and stuff because her middle doesn't easily fit in, indicating she's a bit chubbier than Littlefoot.  :p
Haha! Well Cera throws around her 'weight' (pun intended) and it gets it done. Because Cera is chubby she had enough weight to help the Gang sink Sharptooth in the Original and to save Bron from the shoals of molten lava in Journey of the Brave. Not to mention all tree bridges Cera Threehorn has made to get to the objective. Don't change Cera, we love you as you are, chubby and hot tempered. :lol

General Land Before Time / Why is this so rare?

I've wondered this thing a bit myself. I mean, most people have little to no problem if someone is a Disney fan. Even some other animated "kids'" series like MLP or Lion king seem to have a wider appeal than LBT does. I can see why many people don't like LBT but even then, Pixar or Dreamworks are more "neutral" these days and they're widely considered to be making "kids'" films. As for MLP, it seems to have a wide following as well even if its target audience seems to be rather young and gender-specific. True, LBT is aging but still, I don't see why this franchise has such a small fanbase when compared to some other series.
You raise a good point Sovereign. Plenty pf people adore Micky Mouse, Simba, and Spongebob Sqaurepants who are adults. The target audience is kids, but lest we forget it was adults who made the House of Mouse and the Land Before Time franchise. There are plenty of adults who were passionate enough to bring Little Foot and his Gang to life, why then can't adults enjoy it as well? Sorry, I went Socrates all of a sudden :lol

General Land Before Time / Adding a new member to the gang of five

TBH, i cannot see kicking Chomper and Ruby out of the Gang being a good idea. They are interesting characters and bring very good dynamics to the Gang and any decision to drop them out doesn't have my support.
I think "LBT XIV: Journey of Brave" seals the fact that all further adventures will feature Chomper and Ruby with the rest of the Gang. This is symbolized by how the Gang of Five pauses with Chomper and Ruby standing in their new places in the pack; and narrator saying Little Foot foujd more than his dad, he found friends, I don't think this refers to the original Gang, but the new members Chomper and Ruby. Going forward will include Chomper and Ruby.  :angel

The Welcome Center / Greetings

Welcome, always great to see a new member here. Do you have any favorite sequels, characters, and or episodes, other then the first movie, of course.
I have many favorite characters. Little Foot, Petrie, and Chomper. Little Foot is the faithful leader who is full of compassion in contrast to Cera's more analytical and choleric approach which is masked under her anger; for this reason I surmise Cera fights with Little Foot because their leadership styles and approachs differ. Petrie is the pure hearted pterodactyl with an inferiority complex and self shaming (abasing) that I cannot help but sympathize with. Chomper is the answer to my love of carnivours; he allows me to like a Sharptooth who isn't the antagonist.

My Top Five:

1. The Land Before Time (Orginal)
-The classic which was a child's dream come true next to Jurassic Park.
2. The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave
-Crystal caverns, Cesar Petrie, Carnotaurus, and Feather Carnivours oh my!
3. The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through The Mists
-The Search for Holy Grail in Night Flower form.
4. The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island
-Chomper, Chomper, Chomper, and Sharptoothian (Sharpteeth Langauge).
5. The Land Befor Time X: The Great Longneck Migration
-Bron, "I am your father." Little Foot's mother seen for first time since the Original. Prophetic dreams and prehistoric smack downs betwen Sharpteeth and Longnecks.

To Admin, hello! Thank you for warm welcome.

General Land Before Time / Ali and Littlefoot

I can easily understand the potential Ali and Littlefoot have for becoming romantically involved. Although I don't really ship them, I don't really mind if they get into a relationship or
not. Of course, since the series is mainly geared towards children, this is considerably unlikely to happen. I personally wouldn't care if Ali and Littlefoot didn't get into a relationship at all, and it's even possible they could both remain single.
I agree with you. The most that should or ever come from a romantic relationship between Little Foot and Ali is innocent child like crush. Anything beyond this messes with the spirit of the LBT.

General Land Before Time / Getting to know you - LBT Style
« on: April 17, 2017, 09:22:15 AM »
1.) Most liked Land Before Time character - Petrie

2.) Least liked Land Before Time character - For reoccurring character it would have to be Topsy or Mr. Threehorn. He moody, and really inconsistent. In LBTIII he is like the water Gestapo, but when Tria arrives he acts like teenager, and now suddenly he's back to the Original two dimensional character of Mr. grumpy pants. It's these inconsistencies of character that make me dislike him, its hard to like someone who the writers keep changing and do not keep his character development on track.

3.) Most liked Land Before Time song - "It Takes All Sorts"  While definitely about diversity and dispelling prejudice, I see allusions to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 12:15-26).

4.) Least liked Land Before Time song - "Better Off Alone" this is so inconsistent with the Land Before Time franchise, the Gang of Five has always needed each other through thick and thin. The only time this song would have worked is in the Original when Little Foot and Cera feuded and even hated each other. By now, the Gang has entered a groove and should know by now, they've survived countless perils because of each other. Ironically, this is the antithesis of my favorite song.

5.) Most liked Land Before Time film - "The Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave" with "Journey Through Mists" as close runner up.

6.) Least liked Land Before Time film - "The Land Before Time: The Stone of Coldfire" Simple, "because of aliens." (History Channel).

7.) Most memorable Land Before Time moment - When Petrie becomes king of the diggers (LBT XIV: Journey of the Brave). Petrie has always behaved like the runt, and since the Original he has behaved like one with an inferiority complex or at least hyper insecurity and nerves. He gets so belittled and abused by family (brothers and sisters) in The Great Day of Flyers. It was refreshing to see Petrie in a more dignified, regal, and even confident persona. While certainly this borrowed from Sid the Sloth's side story with the min-sloths in "Ice Age: The Melt Down", Petrie wearing a Cesar like leaf circlet or crown is priceless.

Attic Treasures / Jurassic Park/Lost World Jurassic Park
« on: April 17, 2017, 09:07:36 AM »
Jurassic Park the book and film are almost opposites. JP the book was more of horror, while JP Film is thriller. The book made dinosaurs seem almost like something from "The Island of Dr. Moreau." The fact that the beginning of TLWJP film is essentially part of JP book is interesting. Michael Crichton sure had a gift at suspense and informing the reader on bioengineering, and Chaos Theory.

General Land Before Time / Journey of the Brave (LBT 14)
« on: April 17, 2017, 08:56:22 AM »
I was quite surprised by Journey of the Brave. I had almost given up on sequels after the wacky "Wisdom of Friends." I feared that the trend of dumbing down the dialogue and action would happen again. Thankfully, LBTXIV does not disappoint. In fact, it is my favorite to date. I think it is the journey and imaginative scenarios. Petrie acting as Rex (king), the underground water river ride, Etta (Reba Macintire), the Carnotaurus (Horned Sharptooth), the Valley of Feathered Sharpteeth, and more all was thrilling and endearing. I especially liked the fact Chomper is in his third featured film, and that the adult dinosaurs actually went in search of the Gang of Five, I mean all those times before, hardly did Grandpa Longneck and Topsy go looking for Little Foot and Cera (An exceptions being The Secret of Saurus Rock, and The Great Longneck Migration).

For me this is best Land Before time in some time. I found the Tinysaurs, The Great Day of Flyers, and The Wisdom of Friends to be weaker installments. It was nice to have a return to elements that made the earlier films great.
