General Land Before Time / Horned Sharptooth
« on: April 20, 2017, 12:07:34 AM »
The Horned Sharptooth or Carnotaurus in The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave has striking similarities to the Sharpooth in 1988 Land Before Time. I shall use pictures to show the similarities.

They both Jump

They both have a cave element of their chase

Couldn't find a pic of Cave scene to share: Here is the Linkhttp://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/landbe...=20161004210042

They both appear right after the foot print

There is no picture yet of the Horned Sharptooth's footprints and Cera mentioning them, then the Carnotaurus appears. If you watch the film again you'll see them.

Well, there really wasn't a Dinosaur Renaissance during the original Jurassic Park trilogy, either, because those things be expensive to bring to life on the big screen. An animated film is not out the question, though.

Oh, I know Land Before Time has a chance. It's becoming increasingly clear that nothing made, ever, is immune to a reboot/remake/long belated sequel.
At first I resented reboots, but now I am glad for revivals because it means a chance to revisit and see something we've only hoped for or dream of regarding our favorite franchises.

Yeah the only t-Rex that deserves recognition is the first one in movie one since he was awesome and kinda scary.
I liked the Carnotaurus because in my humble opinion he had some characteristics of the Original Sharptooth, intimidation and a look that was sinister and even supernatural. It felt more terrified for Gang of Five when this Horned Sharptooth was after them than Feathered Headed Sharpteeth and all previous Sharpteeth save for the original.

To ADfan185, the Disney's Dinosaur:

I didn't hate it fully I did like the diggers that's about it the rest went downhill after that
I didn't particularly like personalities of the diggers, but I enjoyed Petrie become Cesar for a day (well half a day). The diggers were instrumental in that.

O_o

why?
I like Carnotaurus, probably because of Disney's Dinosaur. I found the Horned Sharptooth to be quite threatening in Journey of the Brave, but they didn't utilize him nearly enough.

Luke is almost certainly the last of the Jedi,  and his daughter represents the new order whatever that may be. there is no council anymore, nor in the new order will there be, the old Council was too tied to politics and trying to  represent its own interests. Luke has become Obi wan, in a way, and is stepping out of his 30 years a hermit phase. i just hope they dont kill off luke as they did obi wan.
According to EU/Legends Luke was suppose to create a New Jedi Order, which even allows marriage. However, it seems instead that he is reduced to Kenobi hermit status. I am not sure yet if Rey is his daughter, she might just be powerful Force User with no relation to Skywalkers or Solos.

I have hope, since Michael Bay made Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles (twice) after there had been movies, and cartoons. Since the Power Rangers has been rebooted, I think The Land Before Time has a chance, especially if there is a Dinosaur Renaissance. Perhaps after Jurassic World II is released, executives will consider reviving other dino-franchises.

Yeah I've read the bad reviews of the game and people thought they where getting this awesome amazing new Zelda game but it turns out it was pretty Bad. Some say it was to easy of a game to play.
Nintendo has struggled since N64 era to create challenging games. The advent of New Super Mario Bros. and most sequels to major franchises can be beaten with ease, while the old school Nintendo games were extremely difficult to beat or had so much to do as in case of SNES Super Mario World, that gamers kept busy.

I'm not a fan of topsy since he is just a brainless idiot who doesn't think and just shoots out racist nonsense that's what I don't like about him.
I think it would have helped to have Topsy have some backstory where he saw Cera's mother die, and become bitter because no other Leaf Eaters helped.

Out of all of the Carno Creed, that's the only part I have any criticisms for. Basically, a predator that's needlessly noisy is going to have a difficult time in life.

1. A big sharptooth being too noisy might draw the attention of other predators. Small ones can be more easily dealth with, but if they happen to draw attention from a stronger carnivore, then they risk getting injured, perhaps hindering their ability to hunt properly.

2. Small sharpteeth are better off being even quieter, for if they make their presence known to everyone, they run the risk of being killed by prey and predator alike (prey, defending their herds, and predator, to get rid of competition).

3. A noisy sharptooth would not hunt well. The key to hunting is actually being quiet enough to get close to the prey and close the gap. If a sharptooth, large or small, were to be constantly loud and heard, then their prey is going to hear them and run off long before they have any chance to get close.

A better approach with that part of the creed, I think, would probably be more in competitions, sharpteeth trying to claim territory. In this case, being loud and heard could be used as an intimidation method in hoping to scare away their would-be rival.
Indeed, the context of credo is for this Clan. Being loud and noisy to keep hot head hunters from asserting themselves over superiors.

The Credo is based on Sith Creed from Star Wars. Since Sharp teeth are suppose to be the antagonists of The Land Before Time, and Sith are antagonists of the Star Wars Saga, I tried to create a Creed that captures aspects of the Sharptooth mindset, attitudes, feelings, attributes, and behavior. It's not a literal, be loud all the time thing, its philosophical.

Also, if you look at three classes of Sharpteeth, the Sharphunter class is more what you are talking about, keep quiet, analysis during the hunt, and then attack without making much noise (Raptor style). But for T-Rex types, the roar can petrify prey with fear, which is more the Sharpclaw class, of being more brutal and attacking, not worrying about if you make yourself known to prey. Sometimes the RAWR! can so scare prey into a trap, as in case of lions, where male roars causing prey to run right to the females. Being loud and roaring can also make the prey become so tense and anxious they make mistakes, as often happens to Gang of Five in LBT films.

True only if they do it in traditional animation not the cgi garbage they use now. I don't mind the cgi but only if it's done right. And yeah I guess Dinosaurs are getting popular again so only if it's done with care but I doubt that's gonna happen
It is a miracle that the last Land Before Time XIV: Journey of Brave even was made. I thought it was over with "The Wisdom of Friends." But I was proved wrong.

thx very much! I liked to read your respond!

Not gonna post my position about this question and start discussion here since it's Ask me thread. :)

Here's new question:

Do you believe in rainbowfa... oops, I mean, in aliens. In that UFO stuff?

And opposite side from that question: Do you believe in supernatural? Ghosts, Demons, superhumans, etc?
In many ways the scenario you describe happened with Pterano, Petrie's uncle who lead many from original herd that was looking for Great Valley to their destruction. The adults then did not trust Pterano when we reappeared in Great Valley. You are right, the Gang of Five will see through anything, if one is blind the rest isn't, take Ali, Cera saw immediately she was stand offish, while Little Foot was aware, but a little beguiled because of his friendship.

what sense? Just give them perfect original movie - and people would be introduced by gang. All is simple.

You'd think so, anyway. The problem with trying to advertise the original Land Before Time is the same one any older film has. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its modern descendants, and so might not tickle modern children's fancy. That's why remakes happen at all.
I think for reboot to work, the LBT franchise would have to be taken in a new direction, like how Christopher Nolan took Batman franchise in a new direction (actually it is closest to comics), and how James Bond was taken in a new direction in last four films starring Daniel Craig (closer to Ian Flemming novels). For Land Before Time to really make its mark, it might need to be turned into something that emphasizes the original's hallmarks, make Sharptooth very scary, keep a Pixaresque sadness of the separation of characters, and add elements that pull at the hearts of children and adults.
Agreed. Alas, in reality, I doubt any modern studio executives will care enough about the original LBT to truly examine what made the original work in the first place.
Perhaps, but the Lion King was an idea that had little promise, and yet it has become a major franchise in its own right. Anything is possible, who thought the Power Rangers would have been rebooted in a serious tone :lol.

There is no silence, there is RAWR!
I'm confused by this part, I admit.
It means as a Sharptooth, you are not a silent creature who is timid and keeps quiet. You make yourself known to all with loud noise, like trumpet or horn. :DD

Nintendo was household name for me. I had NES to Nintendo Wii. I stopped getting consoles with Wii U. I felt the Wii U and Xbox One, and PS4 were essentially scams to get people to buy tech before it changed once again, example Bluray was basically to get us to buy DVD again with HD before Digital buying took over.

The Nintendo Switch was real next revolution for Nintendo. I despite having surrendered my controller, still like to keep privy and apprised of the latest Gaming. Switch's combo console and mobile device is a great idea, but I have heard many people are having terrible overheating problems, and dock for the handheld part is flimsy, can anyone substantiate these complaints?

Welcome! It's always good to see new faces! And I rather enjoyed the short summaries you wrote of your favorite films in the series- never thought about them that way before :smile
Why thank you. I tried to do my favorites justice. I am so glad to share my love of LBT here. During a very hard season in my life, I watched the LBT films over and over, at that point there was only LBTI to LBT VIII. I remember musing at that point in time, "I wish Chomper would return for another film, and we could see Ali one more time." To my elation Chomper did return for the LBT Series and LBT XIV, and Ali did make an appearance in Series (sadly I haven't seen it). :DD

I frankly are weary of how Disney darkens franchises. Instead of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent, the evil witch is good and Sleepy Beauty a brat. This is entirely out of Luke Skywalker's character, "You have failed your highness, I am a Jedi like my father before me," (Luke Skywalker, Return of Jedi) to which the Emperor responds, "So be it Jedi" and uses Force Lightning on Luke. Luke was willing to die at hands of Emperor than turn to Dark Side, and it is because Luke believed in good, the Jedi still in Darth Vader, that Vader became Anakin again and destroyed the Dark Lord of the Sith. Contrast that with this new line in The Last of Jedi, "The Jedi must end." Wait what? It is because of Jedi that Vader became Anakin again, that he was redeemed and became a Force Ghost. This is an entire departure from Luke's character. What made Luke unique was that he resisted the allure of Bogan (The Dark Side), in contrast to Darth Vader who gave in.

Frankly, I had hoped Disney was going to make Luke the Master of Yavin IV Temple of the Jedi, but instead they seem to be doing a knock off of the horrible story "Dark Empire (Darkhorse Comics" where Luke turns to the Dark Side. Ugh.
