Title: Ubuntu Studio
Post by: landbeforetimelover on March 10, 2008, 02:47:55 AM
I've just checked out Ubuntu Studio edition.  It is so awesome!  It's requirements are enormous, but if you can handle it, it's excellent if you're into video, music, pictures, or all of them!  I would say the minimum requirements to run the software varies.  To get everything out of this OS, I would say you need at least these specs:

2gb ram

200gb hard drive

2.4ghz (athlon 64 is recommended)

a decent video and sound card

Check out their site to learn more about this amazing OS:

Firefox/Opera users:  this image is likely too large to see completely and the
scroll bar at the bottom of the screen probably isn't there.  Simply
click your scroll button on your mouse and move the mouse over towards where
you want the screen to go to view the whole image.

Action should check out their audio program.  There's a screenshot on the site, but here's the image anyways:

I am a big fan of Ubuntu, although it is impossible for me to switch entirely from windows to linux because I've grown up with windows and there are many programs I need windows for that linux cannot currently provide.

And we thought Vista had bad requirements to run....if you need that much to run Ubuntu Studio OS, then I have a feeling most will be up in arms over this memory footprint too.

Ah, just the newest version of Ubuntu requires:

128mb ram

1.5gb free space

500mhz processor

Ubuntu studio requires so much because it's DESIGNED for people with super computers who want to do multimedia work such as Action.  The OS itself doesn't use much.  I think it's requirements are:

800mhz processor

4gb free hard disk space

192mb ram

That's if you don't want to use any of the multimedia programs that came with it.  Of course, if you didn't want to use the multimedia stuff, you'd most likely download just Ubuntu standard, which requires the first set of requirements I posted in this post.  Ubuntu is the best!  If it only had better drivers and was compatible with my programs, I would seriously dump windows like radioactive waste.  Microsoft has got me by the neck though (I seriously wanted to say something else instead of neck).  Seriously, linux is the best OS.  If more people used it, I'm sure it would become much more advanced and even give microsoft a run for it's money.  Heck, invisionfree runs off of a linux server as well as google, yahoo, and about 99% of the websites out there all run off linux.  I have a linux server.  It's about 40tb now.  Too bad I couldn't get it available on the web.  Stupid comcast. :mad
